A Council of Thirteen universe story
One shot
Beta:
Normally, Sakura tends to wake up gradually. Her day usually began with a slow rising wakefulness from the depths of sleep. Unfortunately, today there was none of that. Today, she snapped fully back to consciousness as if she'd been on a battlefield. Thankfully, if it could be called that, it was not because there was a threat that had triggered her well honed instincts but by a sudden intense bout of nausea.
An urge to vomit which had her throwing off her blankets and racing into the ensuite bathroom of the bedroom she shared with Tomoyo to empty her stomach. The impulse to do so was so strong that, despite her usual perpetual awareness of wherever her wife was, she was only dimly aware that Tomoyo had joined her and only belatedly reached out to help her to push her long hair aside as she too began vomiting into the commode next to the one she was currently using.
It took a while, a few minutes perhaps, before Sakura and Tomoyo had both finished vomiting.
"I think in hindsight opting for two commodes for the bathroom was a good idea," Sakura said with a laugh as she stood and walked over to the sink to pour a glass of water from the sink which she proceeded to pass to Tomoyo.
Tomoyo accepted it gratefully and rinsed her mouth before replying.
"That's true," she said as she passed the still half full glass of water to Sakura which she graciously accepted and proceeded to rinse her mouth as well. "But joking aside, I'm more concerned that this isn't the first time that we've both been sick in the morning lately or nauseous during the day either. We've been having to pee more too. If we didn't have a commode for each of us, things might've gotten messy."
"That's true," Sakura mused. "I thought it was something we ate but since it's so persistent…"
It wasn't just nausea either. Sakura thought as she puzzled their symptoms out. Both of us have been suffering from an unusual level of fatigue as well. Could it be?
"And our breasts have been tender lately." Tomoyo said, clearly thinking the same thing that Sakura was. "You don't think…"
"My period is late too." Sakura added. It wouldn't be the first time. It happened sometimes when things became particularly stressful but things weren't that bad lately. Not enough to cause it, she didn't think. Though as they got older and their youthfulness, including staving off menopause, increasingly became a result of their nature as mages, irregular periods were supposed to become more common as one's magic didn't exactly prioritise the regeneration of a woman's eggs over maintaining other aspects of youth.
But we're not quite that old yet, right? We're only just entering our 40s. Sakura thought. And considering the other symptoms...
"Mine too," Tomoyo told her. Sakura was unsurprised, since their marriage and especially the establishment of their bond, their menstrual circles had been synced.
"We better check it out." Sakura concluded with Tomoyo nodding her agreement.
"Congratulations Sakura-sama, Tomoyo-sama," Yosano Akiko-sensei, the premiere physician in the Tomoeda magical community and their family doctor, informed them with a smile. In fact, the young woman with magenta eyes and straight, dark hair cut into a bob that reached past her chin and bangs that she partially kept out of her face with a golden butterfly hairpin on the left side of her head was practically radiating happiness. "You're pregnant!"
"Both of us!?" Tomoyo gasped in uncharacteristic shock. "At the same time?"
Yosano-sensei nodded, still smiling at them happily.
"I guess fate is getting back at us for putting off having kids for so long?" Sakura offered wryly.
"From experience, fate does sometimes like to toy with irony when it comes to these kinds of things." Yosano-sensei offered with a shrug. "I take it from what you've told me in the past about this matter that you intend to keep the children."
"Yes!" Tomoyo and Sakura shouted in unison.
"If that's the case…" Yosano-sensei said with a chuckle before trailing off and pulling up what looked like her calendar on her computer and looked it over briefly before turning back to them. "Are you two free tomorrow for a proper prenatal check up? I'd like to do it now but I have other patients that I can't just reschedule. I am due to conduct Sawachika-san's surgery in an hour and I need to prepare for it..."
"Sorry about that," Sakura said with an apologetic smile. "We know you are busy and are grateful that you managed to find time at all on such short notice to see us today."
"No worries," Yosano-sensei said with a roll of her eyes. "So long as I do have time, of course I'd make time to see you Sakura-sama, Tomoyo-sama. On another note, I think I can pencil in enough time for the check up at three p.m. tomorrow. Is that okay for you?"
"That would be fine." Tomoyo said with a distracted nod, still a little shaken by the revelation. "Should we do anything beforehand?"
"Nothing in particular, though that could change depending on the results of the tests tomorrow." Yosano-sensei informed them as she tapped her chin thoughtfully. "In the meantime, why don't I give you two some general tips on how to handle being pregnant?"
"That would be very helpful. Thank you, Yosano-sensei."
The young doctor waved Sakura's thanks away, before adopting what Tomoyo could only call a lecturing pose as she began her short lesson on pregnancy dos and don'ts.
"So, Sakura-sama, Tomoyo-sama, what did you need to tell me?" Dom asked her foster parents as she sat across from them in the Daidouji-Kinomoto mansion's sitting room. "And why did I need to physically come for a visit before you would tell me what it is?"
"You never visit." Tomoyo-sama teased. "Maybe we just wanted to trick you into finally dropping by?"
Dom rolled her eyes. "My family and I just visited over the year-end holidays. That was just a little over two months ago."
"True," Sakura-sama allowed. "But you could still stand to visit more."
They must be feeling lonely. Dom concluded with a sigh. Though I don't know how that could be considering how busy they are between running the Tomoeda magical community and their duties as Lords of the Thirteen.
"Okay, I'll try."
"That's good to hear." Tomoyo-sama said with a happy smile.
"Indeed, it is." Sakura-sama said with a brilliant smile of her own.
"With that out of the way, could you tell me the 'big news' that you said you had for me?"
Sakura-sama and Tomoyo-sama exchanged a look before nodding.
"We're pregnant!" Her two foster mothers chorused happily.
Dom thanked fate that she hadn't been drinking anything when her foster mothers made their declaration. If she had, she would probably have embarrassed herself by spitting it out. Instead, she just sputtered in shock for a moment.
Both of the older Lords smiled at that, obviously having expected her response and deriving amusement at her expense. In fact, they'd probably planned things out to engender it in the first place.
"T-That's-" Dom began as the news finally began to sink in. "That's wonderful!"
I'm going to have little sisters! Dom realised, joy at the prospect overwhelming her. I can't wait to pamper them!
Her happiness flooded her bonds with Felicia and Shirayuki, piquing their interest and they both sent wordless inquiries about what had happened.
Sakura-sama and Tomoyo-sama are pregnant! I'm going to have little sisters!
That's great news. Felicia returned, her mental voice full of excitement.
Shirayuki didn't reply, instead if what Dom could sense via their bond was correct she had immediately changed her plans for the rest of the day and was now actively beginning to draw up a list of things they could give the expectant mothers to help with their babies.
"I can't wait to spoil them rotten!" Dom told her foster parents as she finished her conversation over her bond with her wives.
"Uh, Dom, why are you excited?" Sakura-sama asked, sounding thoroughly confused. "I mean, you have a sister already."
"But Alicia is my older sister!" Dom said with a shake of head. "Plus I only met her when we were both adults. I want to pamper little sisters."
"If you want to pamper someone, then shouldn't you have got it out of your system already?" Tomoyo-sama asked, sounding as confused by her reaction as Sakura-sama. "I mean you have four children, three foster children and were Dante and Bella's guardian on top of that. That's nine children you've had the chance to pamper."
"But none of them were my little sisters," Dom insisted. "It's different."
I couldn't exactly spoil my girls and wards then leave it to their parents to face the consequences, now can I? Dom thought with a smirk.
A sentiment that had Felicia literally rolling on the floor laughing and Shirayuki giggling to herself.
Her foster parents failed to understand her amusement though and instead just shot each other yet another look of confusion before shrugging.
"So long as you're happy about this, I guess your reasoning doesn't really matter."
"No matter how warped I'm sure it is," Tomoyo-sama said with a sigh.
"Oh, my devious-"
"So you admit what's got you so excited is devious?" Tomoyo-sama asked, her eyes narrowed.
"A little," Dom admitted. "But it's not malicious. And seriously, I am genuinely over the moon for you. I can't wait to hold my little sisters!"
"We can't either." Sakura-sama said with a smile that Tomoyo-sama mirrored.
Kero sat on the table that had been set up in the nearest guest room to the master bedroom of the Daidouji-Kinomoto mansion that Sakura and Tomoyo so that said couple could oversee its conversion into a nursery and watched the veritable hive of activity in front of him with amusement.
The Little, The Big and the Move had worked together to shrink down the furniture and other baby supplies that Tomoyo's mother, Sonomi-san, and other family and friends had gifted the couple, including lavish gifts from Dom-chan, to make moving it into the room where the other Cards were helping in their own ways to set things up. Quite a few of them were moving things around like The Shadow, The Power, The Fight, and The Float whilst the rest, those who were unable or unwilling to help with the moving, were instead watching and offering opinions on where things should go.
I am honestly surprised how opinionated some of them are. Kero thought as he watched the audience of Sakura Cards, chief among them The Hope and the four elements, argue and give conflicting opinions as to what went where. He would've stepped in, or at least nudged Sakura to do so, but thankfully Sonomi-san, Yue, with input from his Yukito half, The Light and The Dark had already taken up the task, keeping things from getting out of hand.
Not all the furniture were gifted of course, as The Wood and The Create, with help from The Flower and The Glow respectively, were engaging in something of a competition to create beautifully artistic pieces of furniture and decorations with Sakura's brother and father, Touya-san and Fujitaka-san, offering guidance to ensure the finished items remained practical.
The most prominent of which were the two cribs, of which Sakura and Tomoyo had insisted to their family and friends that they would source on their own, leaving room that the Cards had taken advantage of to produce the works of art that took centre stage in the soon-to-be nursery. The Wood and The Create and their respective assistants having created one each to impress their Mistress and her wife.
The Wood had created a crib that looked like it was made of a single living shrub with its upper branches shaped into a baby mobile crowned by beautiful multicolored leaves and a set of flowers imbued with some of The Flower's power that would, Kero could tell, exist in perpetual bloom.
The Create, on the other hand, had chosen a futuristic aesthetic for its crib to contrast with the nature themed one that The Wood had created. It had created a crib of smooth shining metal, full of rounded edges, decorated by intricate ever shifting glowing designs reminiscent of circuit boards on the outside and a stunning mobile in the form of a swirling nebula of rainbow colored lights, the latter two of which were empowered by The Glow's magic.
"I still feel bad that we aren't helping." Sakura said with exasperation from her seat next to the table she shared with him and Tomoyo where they were being pampered by The Sweet who was overseeing their maids as they were served tea and cakes.
"Yes, it feels a little wrong." Tomoyo said as she refilled the cups of tea for Sakura and herself, with The Sweet helpfully using her power to sweeten both cups to just the way both of them liked it.
"Oh, this is everyone's gift to you. Let them do it!" Kero told them with a roll of his eyes as he munched on a tasty cookie.
"Kero-chan, don't talk and eat at the same time." Sakura scolded in exasperation whilst Tomoyo giggled at his antics.
"I understand that this is a gift." Sakura said, returning to the previous topic. "But surely this is a little too much."
Tomoyo nodded with a slight frown.
"We know you could have set up the nursery on your own, Sakura, Tomoyo." Fujitaka-san said with a slightly scolding tone. "But we want to help. Let us."
"Yes, Sakura-chan." Sonomi-san agreed, her arms crossed and shooting Sakura a firm look. "Let us pamper you two a little! You and Tomoyo are pregnant! You two deserve it!"
Sakura and Tomoyo exchanged a look and sighed in exasperation, much to equal exasperation from everyone else. Honestly, his Mistress and her wife were a little too humble in his, and everyone's, opinion! Couldn't they just let themselves be spoiled for once!?
Months later, in Tomoyo and Sakura's third trimester, the couple waved goodbye to the last of their guests to the baby shower Dom had thrown on their behalf. The party had been a truly lavish affair that had seen all their friends and family, including the other Lords of Thirteen, even the misanthropic Omer, attend.
Even more surprising, this had even included Meiling as a representative of the Li clan.
With what had happened between them and Syaoran, relations with the Lis had been rocky for years. Though it seemed that they'd decided to use the occasion of Sakura and her pregnancies to finally bury the hatchet. At least somewhat. Their old friend had been colder than was probably appropriate after all, but at least the Lis were trying. Tomoyo could appreciate that much.
Turning away from the lobby where Dom and her family had teleported away, the couple turned back to the living room where the party had been held and where their staff were currently busy cleaning things up.
"I wished Dom-chan had held this party at her place," Sakura confessed. "Look at all the mess that we need to clean up."
"Yes, parties tend to be messy." Tomoyo agreed but shook her head. "But did you forget Yosano-sensei's admonition against travelling now that we're in our third trimesters?"
It had been more out of an abundance of caution due to their age than actual worry for whilst they weren't exactly old to be having their first pregnancies for mages, they definitely were for mundanes and Yosano-sensei felt it best to be careful. Just in case. Though, Tomoyo knew better than to bring it up. The reminder would likely set Sakura off and she'd start ranting. Her pregnancy had played merry hell on her moods, leaving her uncharacteristically irritable.
"I remember." Sakura said with a sigh. "But seriously, look at the mess the party left behind to clean up."
"It really is not too much trouble." Their head housekeeper, Wanijima-san, turned away from supervising her subordinates as they cleaned up after the party to address them and one of the maids carried Kero back to his room. The Guardian Beast having eaten himself into a food coma by overindulging on cakes during the party. Something that by the frown on Sakura's face and the bubbling annoyance she was feeling that Tomoyo could sense through their bond meant he'd be facing quite the tongue lashing when Sakura got around to it.
Thankfully, that wouldn't be now as Wanijima-san continued before Sakura could explode. "We are happy to do it, Sakura-sama, Tomoyo-sama."
"You heard, Wanijima-san." Tomoyo said, nudging Sakura. "So stop being a worrywa-"
She was unfortunately unable to finish her sentence as she yawned. If Sakura's pregnancy made her irritable, then hers made her tired all the time.
"Sorry. Stop being a worrywart."
"Alright, alright." Sakura said with a chuckle. "Since you're tired, why don't we go take a nap?"
"Sounds good." Tomoyo agreed, snuggling slightly into Sakura's side. "Wanijima-san, we'll leave the cleaning up to you?"
"Please do, Sakura-sama, Tomoyo-sama." The older woman said, offering them a bow that they returned with nods as they waddled their way - And, yes! They were waddling! No matter that their friends and family refused to admit it. - to their bedroom.
A little while later, a naked and very sated Sakura was lying next to an equally nude Tomoyo in their bed and looking out at the set of floor to ceiling windows that offered them a wonderful view of their gardens.
"You said we were going to have a nap." Tomoyo said with a yawn as she snuggled into her side, made just a little more difficult than usual by their pregnant bellies. "I don't think having sex counts."
"I didn't hear you complaining earlier," Sakura countered. "Weren't you instead urging me on."
Tomoyo hit her lightly even as she giggled. "Yeah, well, how can I resist my sexy, pregnant Sakura-chan~?"
"And how could I resist my even more sexy, pregnant Tomoyo-chan?"
They both burst into giggles at that.
"But seriously," Tomoyo said with another yawn. "I'm tired. Let's sleep."
Sakura nodded with a yawn of her own. "Sure."
"Sleep well, Sakura-chan." Tomoyo said, pulling her into a tight embrace. "I love you."
"Sweet dreams, Tomoyo-chan." Sakura returned, kissing her wife's on the forehead and tightening their embrace. "I love you too."
Done!
A short one to continue the stories centred around the pregnancies and children for the Lords of the Thirteen continue! There should be just one more, as a matter of sorts, but then we will transition to another sorta story arc. Hopefully that's acceptable and it won't put any readers off.
So till next time sayōnara!
