Save Them [Help Wanted/Gameverse – no pairings]
It started small. Shadows darting past the corner of his eye, quiet playful giggles when no one was around but him, and items changing locations. Since it was occurring at the Fright, he could easily shrug it off as his imagination and the crew rearranging things during the day.
Then it followed him home.
He might have explained it away like the incidents at work, but in the familiar space of his apartment the former officer knew something was off.
Ever since the accident that nearly ended his life, Josh had been able to see spirits. They'd started visiting him at all hours in the hospital until one of the ICU nurses had noticed his problem. She taught him about his new gift and how to set up boundaries for wandering spirits that found him.
Whoever these spirits were, they were surprisingly shy and it definitely was multiple spirits. They felt young, but they still hadn't come forward so he couldn't be sure.
Then a few days later, something changed.
During his shower, a cold breeze shot through the room, strong enough to cause the curtain to whip around his legs. Poking his head out of the curtain, green eyes squinted through the foggy room, "Hello?"
No answer, just the heavy sense of not being alone. "All right, just- if you don't want to talk, could you let me finish up in here?" Still no answer. "Okaaay, just gonna… finish my shower then."
Whoever it was, they didn't stay long, leaving with yet another cold breeze.
Alone again, Josh finished quickly and stepped out of the shower. Reaching for a towel his eyes caught sight of a message scrawled in the condensation on the bathroom mirror:
S.A.V.E.T.H.E.M.
'Well, guess they're finally ready to talk.'
