Nothing Comes For Free

Georgie and Logan, GH

Chapter Five

May 2016

Georgie took a break from working on her novel. She walked to the window and looked down at the shore, where Logan was fishing off the pier with LJ and Frankie.

She had made her office in a small room in a tower at Wyndermere. It was quiet and as far away from the staff as she could get. She felt safe in this little space. Protected.

The deadbolt on the door helped.

It wasn't the only safe room she had in her home. She had one on every floor-hidden away behind secret panels. Each required a code to get inside.

When she moved in the home had some security but she needed more. Cameras covering every room but the bathroom. Armed guards in the guest house twenty four hours a day, patrolling the island every 15 minutes in shifts.

Just in case. In case of what? A crazed fan, maybe. A mobster, another serial killer. Who knew what exactly might come after Georgie next but she was surely prepared this time.

Unlike that night she played Nancy Drew and her ex wrapped his fingers around her throat, trying to choke the life out of her.

Cooper saved her life that night. She was grateful to him every moment after. Now she would do all she could to protect his kids and raise them to be just as good and kindhearted as their father had been.

Logan would have to teach them to be brave. Georgie hadn't felt brave for one second since she woke up in that hospital bed, with bruised vocal chords and awful memories that, to this day, wouldn't fade away.

Watching Logan with the kids, as they fished on the shore, she wondered if he was up to this job. And was she?

They needed to be-somehow, some way- because now they were all these kids had.

Georgie brought a picnic basket down to the pier. "Anyone up for some lunch?"

"Yay!" both kids cried, running over to see what she brought.

Once she had them settled down with their food, she told Logan "I brought plenty for you too."

"Much obliged, darlin."

She chuckled and rolled her eyes. "Need you to keep up your strength. You get to do the drop off in the morning."

"The what now?"

"Drop off. Each day the kids have to be dropped off at school and picked up. You do the drop off and I'll do the pick up."

"And what time is this drop off?"

"8 sharp."

"You're lucky I rise with the chickens."

"I figured a farm boy like you would."

"And, let me guess, you like to sleep in?"

"I work late."

"Scribbling your fairytales?"

"Composing my bestsellers."

Frankie asked "Are you fighting again?"

Georgie startled. "No, we're just talking, baby."

LJ said "They like each other, stupid."

"I am not stupid! Tell him, Uncle Logan. I am not stupid. I smart," Frankie said.

"You're very smart for your age. I didn't even know four year olds go to school around here. You've got to be older where I'm from. You must be the smartest four year old in all of Port Charles to be in school already."

LJ said "It's not real school. It's baby school."

"Is not!" Frankie said "Tell him, Aunt Georgie. It's big girl school."

"LJ," Georgie said "stop picking on your sister. You are both very smart and in real school. As her big brother you are showing her how boys should treat girls. Would you like your friends to be mean to your little sister?"

"No, ma'am. I'm sorry, Frankie."

Frankie threw her arms around him and kissed his cheek. "I forgive you."

Georgie caught the look in Logan's eye as he watched the kids...and she saw his heart flip over with love for them. It was in that moment she knew she couldn't keep fighting with Logan just because he was a man who invaded her home.

Not when they both loved these kids so much they would die for them, and live together with them, too.
