Georgie and Logan, GH
Chapter Ten
June 2016
Logan once heard someone say that every couple should take a road trip together before they get married. If they could still like each other afterwards, then they were meant to be together. He didn't know if he bought that theory but by the time that his little family reached Texas, after three days on the road, he was even crazier about Georgie than he had been back in Port Charles.
It blew his mind that just a month before he was living in Texas with no plans to ever move back to Port Charles. No plans to ever lay eyes on Georgie Jones again. She was just Maxie's annoying little sister who was way too judgmental for her own good- and he would be better off never seeing her again. How wrong he had been.
He wouldn't want to be raising kids with anyone else. Didn't think he would be very good at it either. They balanced each other out. She was the type to worry about 401k accounts and vaccinations and college savings plans, while he was the type to make sure the kids knew how to have fun, whether it was fishing or climbing a jungle gym or having a food fight. He used to think she was such a stick in the mud, way too uptight, and she thought he was an arrogant ass. He didn't see how they were going to live with each other without driving each other crazy and then within a couple of weeks, he suddenly couldn't see how they could ever live without each other again.
I'm so crazy about this woman, Logan thought to himself as he let out a low chuckle.
He pulled into his driveway at the farm. In the backseat of the SUV, LJ and Frankie were sleeping. Georgie was asleep in the passenger seat.
Logan gently touched Georgie's arm. "Hey, we're here."
She jerked away. Her eyes were wide and her breathing unsteady.
"Sorry," Logan whispered. "I didn't mean to spook you."
Her eyes softened as she looked into his eyes. "It's not you. I'm just still getting used to not being alone all the time. "
"Take your time. We're in no rush."
She looked out the window. "This is your house? I love it, especially the porch. "
His heart warmed at her words and the tender way she was looking at the home that he had made. All those years when he was sure he was making himself the life he wanted here in Texas, he had just been biding time, waiting for the day his path crossed hers again. He knew that now. It was crazy how life could change on a dime.
He was grateful to have Georgie and the kids as his family now, but a moment didn't pass when Cooper and Maxie were out of his mind. When he forgot the price they had to pay for Logan to have this family he called his now. It hadn't come for free.
He would make them proud.
"Let's get the kids into bed," Logan said "and then I'll give you the grand tour."
"Sounds like a plan."
He liked it when they agreed on things. It was happening more and more lately. They were falling into a rhythm with each other. The trust between them was growing, and so was the heat. He knew they were headed somewhere good. He could feel it. He trusted his gut.
They hadn't even shared one kiss yet but he was sure that she was everything he wanted for his future- and not just as a co-guardian to their kids. Georgie was woven into all the fabric of all Logan's plans, hopes and dreams going forward.
Every time she looked at him these days, it felt like she was starting to see him the same way too. This trip to Texas would be good for them. A chance to make some memories away from Spook Island.
Georgie was reading a book on the couch a couple of hours later when Frankie called her name. Georgie hurried into the guest room to check on her niece.
"Hey, sweetie, you woke up from your nap. We made it to the farm. You remember it, right?"
"I was scared. I didn't know where you and Uncle Logan were."
"Uncle Logan went to pick up Charlie and get us some tacos for dinner. He'll be back soon."
Frankie hugged Georgie. "I've never been here without Mommy and Daddy. It's not fair."
Frankie burst into tears. Georgie gently rocked her niece.
"You're right, sweetie. It's not fair."
Georgie was able to calm Frankie down, talk her into brushing her teeth, washing her face and changing her clothes. Meanwhile LJ woke up from his nap, too, and then Logan came home with his dog.
Georgie watched with a smile on her face as they kids ran to meet Charlie.
Logan made a fire in his firepit in the backyard. He made the kids smores. They caught fireflies. He played them country songs with his guitar.
Once the kids were in bed, Georgie and Logan moved to his couch.
She said "I don't want you to sell this place."
"Really, doll? After one day you've gone sweet on my little piece of heaven? Can't bear to let her go?"
"This place means a lot to you and the kids. I think we should keep it in the family. If it's a matter of money, I could help you out-."
"The last thing I'm doing is taking money from you. If I decide to hold onto this place, I'll swing it. Don't worry about the money."
Even though Maxie and Cooper had left 10 million in life insurance the insurance company had not paid out yet, pending an investigation of the fire.
"Of course. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to throw my money around like I think it will solve all your problems or that you can't afford to hang onto this place without my help. I know it's your call. I just hate to see somewhere that means so much to you and the kids- to our family- be sold to strangers when we could keep up the tradition of vacationing here once a year, like Maxie and Cooper used to."
"I'll think about it, okay? We don't gotta decide tonight. I'm just glad you- and the kids- are here with me on this trip. Gotta admit I would have missed you if you'd stayed home."
"I wouldn't want to stay anywhere without you."
He leaned closer to her. "Yeah?"
She leaned in. "Yeah," she whispered.
He pressed a soft kiss to her lips, only lingering a brief moment before pulling back. "Georgie..."
"Will you hold me, Logan?" Her heart was pounding hard and she needed to feel safe again. To know she was safe with him. He wasn't Diego- her ex that was a serial killer. He was the man who would keep her safe. the man she could trust with her heart and her kids.
"Sure, sweetheart."
She curled into his arms. He ran his hand up and down her back.
"Siri, play To Make You Feel My Love," Logan said and the song started.
Georgie let out a happy sigh as she rested safe and comfortable in his arms. She had no idea how her sister had known it but Georgie and Logan were the perfect combination to raise LJ and Frankie. Georgie only wished that she didn't have to lose her sister in order to have Logan come back into her life.
