Astrid Hofferson was waiting with her arms crossed, surveying the arena. Stormfly nudged her gently, as she would normally be playing with Toothless at this time. She let out a sad squawk, as she was usually playful, but the other dragons were pre-occupied with other things.
``I know girl, I'm worried about them too.`` She said, patting her companion's scaly beak. ``I wonder if-`` He sentence was cut off as a figure entered the arena.

Hiccup lay in bed, staring at the ceiling. He sighed, and sat up, slithering out of bed. He heard a creak of wood and a quiet thump as a foot was set upon the ladder to his room. His eyes darted towards the door, expecting someone to enter. They did, a few minutes later.
His father opened the door, and once he saw Hiccup in the middle of the room, his breathing hitched slightly, so that only Toothless could hear the change. He sighed, and whispered under his breath, making sure that Hiccup didn't hear him.
``Oh gods, what do I say, I was expecting to find him in bed, but now that he's awake...``
``Oh, I don't know. What do you say to me? How about a hello, off for starters, and maybe some answers.`` The unmistakable sarcasm in those words, to which a level only Hiccup could achieve.
Stoick gawked at him, as if he's grown two heads.
``What? You asked a fair question!`` Hiccup stated, slightly confused.
``I whispered it, so that you wouldn't hear.`` The chief said, looking uncomfortable.
``You sounded like you were saying it to me normally.`` The boy stated.
``Well, that must be one of your new abilities then.`` Stoick laughed, crossing his arms over his chest.
``My what?`` Hiccup said. There was a brief pause. ``Oh.``
There was a small silence.
``Well, I was expecting to find you in bed, but you're awake. Why? It's nearly two in the morning.``
``It is?`` Asked Hiccup, getting more confused by the second.
``Obviously Night vision Hiccup, use that big brain of yours and think for once.`` Toothless grumbled.
``Thankyou, oh so kindly for highlighting that for me Toothless.`` Hiccup rolled his eyes.
``Oh, yes. You can understand me now. It'll take some time getting used to that.``
``Indeed.``
Stoick cleared his throat, hearing a one-sided conversation.
``I need to ask you something.`` ``I need to ask you something.``
Both Hiccup and Stoick said at the same time.
``What?`` ``What?``
``Alright you go first,`` Said Hiccup.
``Alright. Why are you awake Hiccup?``
``Can't sleep.``
``Ah.``
``I can't sleep because I have many questions. Care to answer them for me?``
``Sure,``
``First things first, do you know who cast this... this 'spell' on me?``
``Yes, the culprit is in the dungeons, awaiting her trail.``
``Is it anyone we know?`` Hiccup asked, concern in his eyes.
``You, no. Me, yes. But I'll tell you more later.`` Stoick seemed uncomfortable with the topic, so Hiccup moved on.
``Do you-Do you still think of me of your son?`` The question came out soft, quiet and Hiccup was dreading the answer.
``WHAT? Of course! You're the only family I have left, and Damn the Archipelago if I think you're not.`` Stoick seemed fuming, and Hiccup believed him.
``Thanks dad, that's reassuring.`` Hiccup said, and looked out the window, seeing the sun was close to rising. ``Would you mind telling the Gang that I won't be attending lessons today, and that Astrid can take over?.``
Stoick knew a dismissal when he heard one, and nodded as he left the room.
``Hiccup, are you alright?`` Asked Toothless.
``Yeah, but I need to ask you a favour.``
``Sure Hiccup, as long as it doesn't include eels, extreme danger, or the twins.`` Tootless let our a laugh.
Hiccup also laughed. ``It doesn't include any of those things. I think.`` He added.
``I want you to teach me to use my dragon abilities.``

Astrid huffed as the air blew into her face. Hiccup hadn't shown up, and she'd had no interest in teaching Snotlout of the twins, so she left it to Fishlegs. Stormfly rustled her wings as if to say, I'm still here you know. She pat Stormfly's head. The Nadder let out an angry squawk and fired one of her spines into the dense forest below.
``Oops, Sorry girly.`` She said.
Stormfly shook her head as if to say, It's fine, just don't do it again.
She nodded, and took of once more. There was a yelp from the forest.
Oh no, did I hit someone? Please tell me I didn't. She thought as she flew down to investigate.

Hiccup was walking through the forest with Toothless, towards the cove. He and Toothless had decided to train there. The soft undergrowth was crunching underfoot, as the dragon and used-to-be boy walked in silence. Hiccup had so many questions.
Will I be able to fly? Breathe fire?
What other dragon traits do I have except night-vision and sensitive hearing?
He was still lost in his train of thought, until he heard a sharp whistle, as if something was cutting through the air at high speeds. He dove to the side, pushing Toothless along with him. There was a thud, and he let out a yelp, as a Nadder spine imbedded itself right where he and Toothless were standing mere seconds ago. He breathed a sigh of relief as he stood up. Probably a blind shot from a random Nadder, since it was only one spine. He thought.

Hiccup and Toothless made it to the cove safely, before Toothless began instructing.
``The first skill a dragon learns, is how to glide. If you can glide, it's easier when it comes to flapping. I want you to get on that rock,`` Toothless pointed to a large boulder.`` And put your tail fins in a 'V' shaped formation. Spread your wings out flat, and jump into the air. Once you can glide, we can move onto flapping.``
``Woah woah woah, slow down bud. I'm not sure I can even control my wings. Let me get that straight first, then we can begin with actual flying.`` Hiccup complained.
``Of course.`` Toothless rolled his eyes.
The dragon lay down nearby, watching the former human's movements.
``Oh boy, here goes nothing.``
