After confirming the curse could stretch beyond the walls of the Saeki house, hardly anyone slept that night. To make matters slightly more complicated, Drew was so perturbed by the events that he brought his own mattress into the Warren's room and slept on their floor. While it wasn't an ideal arrangement, the Warrens weren't in any way burdened in having their friend nearby that night.
Presenting the photographs of the shadowy figures to Father Sato that morning, the priest agreed that a blessing was needed, and would be conducted at the Saeki house that day.
Not wanting to waste any more time than needed once they entered the premises, Father Sato began to pray as the four stood in the entranceway. Once the prayer was completed, he'd said, the souls will have moved beyond the house. However, Father Sato had barely started speaking when they heard a sound from the upper level, as if something was being dragged to the staircase.
Ready to defend Father Soto so he could finish his prayer, Ed moved protectively in front of the priest, with Lorraine right behind her husband. But whatever the Warrens had expected to see round the corner of the steps, it certainly hadn't been Kayako dragging herself down the stairs. Meanwhile the boy, Toshio, slid his fingers through the bars in the bannisters and stared down at the scene unfolding before him.
Lorraine forced herself to look into Kayako's eyes, hoping to appeal to the woman or mother within. Instead, she was met with eyes void of a soul, one that yearned to drown her in the same darkness that it had the Saeki family.
Ed tried to ward off Kayako, but she merely turned away and crawled towards Lorraine. Scared out of his mind by the corporal spirit but even more terrified of losing his wife, Ed tried to pin Kayako to the floor in an effort to keep her away. The croaking sound from the spirit's lips only grew louder as she twisted her body and pulled him to the floor instead.
"Ed!" Lorraine began to rush forward but felt cold hands take hold of her, one around her mouth and the other her throat. She struggled to breathe, twisting wildly in her attacker's grasp. She jerked her head back, trying to throw off whoever was assailing her, but it was like wrestling with a stone statue. The only thing she managed to do with catch a glimpse of her attacker, Takeo Saeki.
Lorraine continued to fight, but her vision was beginning to blur as Takeo tried to either strangle her or break her neck. She was vaguely aware of Drew smashing a chair into Kayako, giving Ed enough time to break free of her deadly grasp and rush to her aid.
As Ed confronted the spirit who had Lorraine, Toshio leapt from the upper level onto Drew's chest, letting out an animalistic hiss as he pinned the technician to the ground while Kayako made her way over to Father Sato.
By now Lorraine was beginning to lose consciousness. The world began to blot out before her as Kayako yanked Father Sato to the floor. Lorraine was sure the last thing she would hear were Ed's shouts when suddenly her attacker vanished. Lorraine stumbled backward as the sudden weight behind her disappeared, but Ed caught her before she could hit the ground.
"Lorraine?" Ed asked frantically. Had she not been gasping for air, she would have felt Ed shaking. "It's okay," Ed said encouragingly, giving her enough space to breathe but also not willing to let her go. "The prayer is finished. The Saeki's are gone,"
As everything in Lorraine's world began to fall back into place, she realized Drew was bent over the priest laying on the floor.
"Father Sato…" she said.
Drew looked up to meet her gaze, a despairing look on his face as he shook his head. "Father Sato's dead,"
