Chapter 3
Eddie quickly told Bobby everything that he knew. Bobby after hearing everything turned to the driver with a grave face and told him to go faster. 20 minutes away from the accident site, Eddie took a deep breath and called Evan's phone again.
Ring...Ring...Ring...Nothing. It went straight to voicemail and Eddie waited this time, not hanging up. The tone beeped and suddenly Eddie didn't know what to say.
"Uhhm. Hey, Buck, its Eddie. Maddie called me and ummm… If you're not hurt or you know… Unconscious? Can you pick up the phone Buck?" Eddie felt weird leaving a message like that when Buck could be horribly hurt. The call terminated and it left Eddie feeling no easement in his tight chest at all.
18 minutes out.
"Buck if your hurt but can hear your phone then press a button or something, man. Buck your starting to scare me." Another message left and the same dial tone heard. Eddie was sick of it. But he was too afraid to stop. His only hope being maybe Buck could hear his phone and know someone was coming or at least he wasn't alone, something that he seemed to forget all too often.
15 minutes.
"Buck please, Please pick up the phone or wake up or something!" The desperation leaked out of his voice in droves and Eddie knew it.
10 minutes away from the accident site. "Evan, if your okay please call me back immediately, okay? I-I still need you to watch Chris tonight yah know? He's inconsolable when he misses his Bucky. Call me Buck. Please." Eddie waited…And waited…And waited…Still nothing.
5 minutes away from either relief or the utter soul crushing truth that Buck was too hurt to respond.
"Your my best friend Evan. You know that right? I mean I don't think I've ever told you to your face cause I thought it was kinda obvious but maybe not and I'm not the best at words and Oh Gosh I'm rambling just like you do, and I NEED YOU TO BE OKAY BUCK! Please. PLEASE… I cant lose you too. Not you. Not after all the freaking horrible life or death situations we have faced and SURVIVED. You are the best friend I have ever been blessed to have in my life. We're all coming to get you Buckaroo. I promise. See you in a few minutes Evan."
The whole time Eddie left those messages the entire firetruck was silent except for the radios crackling every now and then and the constant background noise of the sirens wailing. Bobby discreetly wiped his eyes when Eddie left the last message and no other eyes including Eddie's own were dry.
0 minutes till arrival at accident scene.
The truck pulled to a stop and Eddie got out hurriedly his eyes immediately scanning the accident and sure enough scrunched up against the guard rail is the cool, terrifying black of Buck's jeep. He knew that it was Buck's car in an instant from memorization. Plus, it helped that he knew Buck's license plate like he knew his own.
The front of the car was ground, smashed hard into the guard rail, the headlights were broken, strewn all out over the road. The hood was half bent up the side where it met the guard rail an indescribable twisted wrecked heap of unrecognizable metal but he see didn't anyone in it and as he ran up to it, he saw that the driver door was hanging open.
The inside wasn't any better than the outside with the airbags that had been deployed hanging there like limp balloons. What caught Eddie's unwavering and frozen attention though was the blood spattered across the steering wheel, red drip marks on the seat, and drip trail heading out of the car, onto the ground and leading away from the wreck.
Buck was hurt but he was alive…So far.
