The ambulance sirens wailed and Eddie flinched...Hard

He knew that he heard those sounds every day, how could he not? he worked at a fire station, but somehow they always sounded different when someone you care about is riding with those sirens, hurt.

The automatic, electronic sounds sounded of oncoming dread, despair and all those thoughts of death Eddie was desperately trying not to think about.

Hen was driving the ambo with Chim in the back keeping an eagle eye on Buck's vitals while the ambulance raced through the streets to the hospital.

The same hospital that Buck had been to too many times to any ones liking.

Chimney glanced at Eddie for a split second before lowering them again, saying quietly "He's stable Eddie."

"I can see that Chimney! I was an Army medic yah know. I'm not stupid."

Chimney raised an eyebrow at Eddie's angry outburst but wisely said nothing as he too felt anger that once again the world had decided that Buck needed to suffer.

Eddie ran a hand worriedly albeit tiredly and looked at Chimney with a sadness in his eyes that struck Chim to his wisecrack heart.

"Sorry, Chim. I-I know I shouldn't have snapped at you. It's not your fault. I...I just don't think. I CANT... I can loose another person I care about Chim. Gosh...I'm such a mess aren't I?"

Chimney patted Eddie's arm "I know Eddie but he's going to be okay. He's Buck."

Eddie supposed Chimney's words were supposed to comfort him, mean that everything was going to turn out A-Okay but he felt...Numb.

Numb and suddenly as if he was a 100 years old.

Eddie was tired, wrung out and left to dry like yesterdays laundry.

But Buck wasn't awake or any where near okay yet so that meant Eddie wasn't going to stop until Buck was okay.

That's what best friends did after all.

Right?

The ambo carrying their precious Buckaroo made it to the hospital in 8 minutes flat.

Not before Buck seized for 3 of those long, awful minutes though.

Buck's entire body was shaking, jerking and spasming horribly and even after Chim administered medicine to make it stop, it didn't.

Stubborn headed fool.

Buck always had to take the hard route.

He just couldn't get a break from the pain could he?

First the bombing with the firetruck and his crushed leg which had excruciating months of hard and bone weary physical therapy.

Then the tsunami which Eddie knew for a fact he still had horrible PTSD dreams about which had him thrashing, crying in his sleep before him waking up screaming Buck had, had a couple when he had slept over on their couch a couple of times.

The stupid fight and distance with the lawsuit that Buck still regretted no matter how many times Eddie told him that it was all in the past.

Then this.

Head trauma, a more than likely concussion, contusions and bruises.

Nothing too bad sure but then he had started seizing.

Buck's body was jerking up and down uncontrollably on the gurney and all Eddie could do was try and hold Buck's limbs down so he didn't hurt himself.

He would have rolled off the gurney by now if Chimney wasn't holding his head still and Eddie was on top of the gurney almost lying on top of Buck trying to keep him limbs from thrashing about.

Eddie's legs covered Buck's and Eddie's hands held down as gently but firmly as he could his arms.

White foam bubbled and leaked out of Buck's mouth, frightening Eddie more than he thought was possible.

The ambo finally rolled to a stop and the Hen jumped out and opened the doors.

Doctors and nurses swarmed out of the hospitals gleaming glass doors listening intently as they held Buck down and relieved him from his job while Chim professionally rattled of Buck's vitals, what he was allergic to, what medicines he had given Buck, and when he had started seizing.

Eddie climbed out of the back of the ambulance hurriedly racing behind the doctors to stay with Buck until he felt hands on his arms tugging him backwards.

"Eddie, we cant go any further. Come on, lets go fill out Buckaroos paperwork huh?"

Hen's voice was soft but laced with worry all the same.

Eddie had stopped struggling against the hands on his arm the instant Hen's voice told him to go fill out Buck's paperwork.

"Wait, doesn't his next of kin need to do that?"

Eddie's puzzled face made Hen look at him in astonishment, and then grin with amusement.

"Eddie. You are the closest thing besides Maddie that he has to a sibling. Maddie has a baby now and Buck didn't want her dropping everything just to come and sit around, worry and do paperwork. You're going to let him raise your kid if you die Eddie. Besides, no one knows him better than you do, even Maddie."

He sank into a hard uncomfortable hospital chair and let it all wash over him.

Of course he wanted Buck to raise his kid.

Christopher loved Buck so much just like Eddie did.

A clipboard filled with several pages of paperwork were shoved into his hands by Hen who smiled at him gently and then he was alone.

A sigh escaped him as he started writing Buck's full name and address, it wasn't a sad sigh, or a happy sigh, but a sight that felt...

Content knowing that Buck trusted him as much as Eddie trusted Buck.

"Ya'll done there Eddie?"

Hen's words broke him out of the reverie he had found himself in and he looked down at the papers before him blankly.

"I-I guess so."

The clipboard disappeared from his lap and Eddie covered his face with his hands and stood up as the realization dawned on him.

"Eddie? Eddie what's wrong?"

Hen's face appeared by his side and he turned to her with a bit of horror in his voice.

"Oh SHOOT! Christopher. Buck was supposed to go stay with Christopher."

That's when the realization that he would have to tell Christopher just like Buck had to when he Eddie himself had been shot that he wasn't coming home tonight.

The tears silently slipping down his face were noticed this time and the look of sympathy on Hen's face just made him crack more.

Notes:

So I put Buck has a penicillin allergy because I have one as well ( Its Amoxicillin really but interesting fact. If u are allergic to Amoxicillin then u are allergic to Penicillin and vice versa.) i thought it would be pretty neat. LOL

anyway so i will continue writing this story and hopefully get it finished soon!

BTW i dont know Buck's address so i just picked a random LA one and i made up the phone numbers except for the first 3 numbers which i hope is the right area code. For the Emergency room papers Eddie filled out i tried to follow an actual admission form so i hope its okay. 3

Notes:

Think i should continue?
