CHAPTER TWO: 50 Years
Husk wasn't one for parties but Charlie and Nifty insisted that they had to have a party for 50 years. Much to his dismay. Charlie's fucking wife also insisted no fucking alcohol or gambling. He hated Vaggie sometimes, why couldn't she give up on them? Alastor thought it was hilarious until he heard Vaggie mention his party with Angel. First person he's meant to get the Radio Demon to go fuck off. He respected that. He didn't want to be here, but he had to admit Nifty looked stunning tonight. She put on this long red dress with a V-neck, she had her hair professionally done in some braided bun. She was purposely swaying her hips more as she walked to keep his attention. It was a splendid party really but he'd rather spend the time alone with her. It was a special day but he felt most days with her were special. He would love to just sit with her and have a nice dinner… then at least he could have some fucking wine. She came over to him. "You don't look happy, are you regretting 50 years of being with me?" Nifty frowned, sadly. He felt like shit for hurting her feelings.
"No, that's not it, I just hate parties… especially ones without booze, you know that."
"I think it's sweet that almost 100 yrs later Vaggie and Charlie don't give up on you." She smiled. She gave him a hopeful smile. "Remember when they got Vox into Heaven? That was a surprise. Do you think we'll ever get there?"
"Not without each other." Her smile brightened and she kissed him before handing him a glass. He took a sip and grinned at her. "Here's to 50 more years." He downed the rest of the wine she smuggled in for him. They spent the rest of the night mingling with the people they've come to consider friends or family. It felt much like their wedding night. They enjoy the party and company, they enjoy letting everyone be aware how much they love each but they'd rather be alone. Just like their wedding he picked her up and carried her into their apartment. It was a good night. His first marriage didn't last 10 years because of the war but she was a bitch. Nifty had her own buckets of problems but she was determined to work on them with him. In the last fifty years she supported his endeavours. She encouraged him when he felt like giving up, she made everyone including Alastor and Charlie(the most annoying of the strange family they'd form) away when he'd want to be left alone. She made sure he had what he needed. In return he balanced her out. There were still days she struggled when he spent time with other people but his constant love for her and convincing her nothing was going to make him leave had mellowed her out. Her OCD was improving with help of counselling and his encouragement. Slowly they were getting better with each other. They weren't fixing each other as neither believed the other to be broken but they improved each other. Maybe in the next fifty years they'll enter heaven together like Charlie keeps telling them. All Husker knows is that in the last fifty years Nifty returned his ability to love. When he'd first gotten to the hotel he told Charlie he'd lost the ability to love. On his wedding vow he told her thanks for finding and returning it. He stands by that statement and now loves a great many things now but none of those things did he love as much as Nifty.
