A/N: To the guest reader who said they hate stories who drag, I'm sorry to hear that but i don't believe this story is dragging. I like to explore the ideas that come to me when writing this story and some ideas i can't just rush through. I also like to bring in elements of other characters to change things up a bit. Everything that happens in this story is leading into a big idea that i'm playing with. But i appreciate the review all the same, though i'm not sure you'll like this chapter either.
11. Resolution
Olivia heard the keys in the front door before she saw him. She heard the keys unlocking the front door and knew there was only one other person besides herself and lucy, who had a key to her apartment. The fact that he was here, unlocking her door, meant that Alex had finally been able to get in touch with him and he knew what was going on. Olivia had expressed to Alex that she was alright with him coming over to see her and if they kept it to her apartment then it was unlikely to cause more issues with school. She just didn't want to go any longer without seeing him. Olivia really didn't want him going any longer thinking that she had just up and left him without saying a word, as that simply wasn't the case.
"She appeared in the corridor, waiting as Elliot opened the front door and quickly closed it behind him. Neither said a word, just stared at the other. Olivia was the first one to make a move, walking closer to Elliot and pulling him close. She felt him wrap his arms around her and hold her just as tightly as she was holding him right now. She felt him hide his face in her hair and breathe her in, appreciating the fact that he was here with her right now. Neither needed to say a word for them to share the same exact feeling right now.
"Thank god you're ok" Elliot whispered as rested his face on her head and she nuzzled into his neck, breathing him in.
"I'm sorry" Olivia apologised, feeling guilty for everything that she'd put him through.
"At least I know now that you're ok. I thought something had happened to you, to us…" Elliot held Olivia's face in his hands.
"I'm fine, Chloe's fine and we're fine. Chloe has been asking when 'daddy' will be coming though" Olivia tried to comfort Elliot's concerns.
"Where is she?" Elliot asked, looking over Oliva's shoulder, wondering why he'd not been greeted by the little girl when he walked through the door, like he usually was.
"At day care, Lucy took her for me this morning"
"Well she'll have a good day and hopefully I'll see her soon. Today though, I just want to be with you"
"Don't you have work? You can't avoid work the whole day and what about the kids? We can't go raising more suspicion right now.
"Ashley is covering for me today, telling anyone who comes looking for me, that I'm in meetings outside of my office and can't meet with anyone else. I'll be at school in time to meet the kids this afternoon but right now, you are my only focus. I want to know what I can do to help?" Elliot looked down at Olivia, desperately wanting to help her get out of this situation in anyway that he could, he felt responsible for part of it.
"I don't think there is anything you can do. The investigation is being completed due to the complaint made about my 'unprofessional behaviour' and 'favouritism' towards certain students. I haven't heard back from the school yet in regard to the result or when I can go back to school, if indeed I can go back" Olivia explained as she guided the pair over to the couch, choosing to continue the conversation sitting rather than standing.
"It's not an 'if', it's a 'when'. There is no way they could fire you completely over this. You are way too talented as a teacher for them to just get rid of you" Elliot tried to get her to remain positive, they hadn't heard anything yet and they didn't know it was definite termination,
"You'd be surprised, I know of teachers who have been terminated for much less" Olivia stated.
"Those teachers are not you though. Besides, if they do end up terminating you then we'll fight them for wrongful termination" Elliot explained, he was prepared to fight in Olivia's court for anything she needed and he needed her to know that.
"Well at the very least, I know I can kiss that promotion goodbye" Olivia remarked, looking down at her hands. Elliot knew the promotion was something Olivia really wanted and he prayed that this event would not impact her chances at the role, even though she seemed to have given up completely. She was definitely down in the dumps and Elliot knew it was up to him to lighten the mood.
"You don't know that yet…but if you want to kiss anything – I'd prefer it was me" Elliot teased as Olivia just rolled her eyes before leaning in and sealing his request. Elliot didn't just want one kiss though and quickly deepened the kiss between the pair. The time apart over the space of this week had been torture enough for Elliot and now he had her close by, he wanted to savour every moment. It was no surprise to either of them where things were heading by the passion they shared in this moment and Elliot scooped Olivia up off the couch, carrying her towards the bedroom. Chloe wasn't here so they had plenty of time for each other.
Kathy didn't understand what was taking so long, it had been days since she last spoke to the principal and there had been no updates. She'd not seen Olivia at school the last couple of days and when she enquired about this, she'd been told Miss Benson had to take some time off. But there had been no news of a termination and Kathy had assumed that when a high power parent makes a complaint against a teacher, the school would want to keep the parent happy or they could pull their kids from the school. Kathy was more than comfortable with doing that and Bernie agreed with her, if needed Kathy would withdraw Elizabeth and Richard from the school and find them quality education elsewhere. She didn't want to have to keep contacting the school for an update on her complaint, she didn't want there to be no news again, she just wanted Olivia gone. If she could get Olivia away from her children, then she would work on getting her away from Elliot and finally, Kathy would have a chance to get her husband back. That was all Kathy wanted. She wanted a way to get her family back to what they used to be.
If Kathy could get her family back, then there would be no need for this divorce situation and everything would be perfectly fine. Elliot was seemingly determined to be divorced from her, however she would make him see how unhealthy his love for Olivia was and how much she could mess him over if he went through with this divorce. Especially considering that courts usually sided with the mother in custody cases and there was nothing more Elliot loved than his children. So she knew he'd be truly devastated if they were taken away.
Of course, for any really power move, you need to show complete control as well and thus it was important for Kathy to be right across everything to do with Elliot's company. Thankfully, she had access to all the relevant documents and timetables for his movements. She knew when there were scheduled events coming up that he had to attend and Kathy would make sure she was on his arm for them and that the world would see she was back in the picture. Elliot could not take his mistress to those events. But even if he did, that could also work in Kathy's favour as she had quite a few media allies who would more than happily drag Elliot's fling through the mud for the right price and opportunity. Kathy just couldn't help but laugh to herself about how fantastic all these plans were and how fantastic it would be to win Elliot back again. They were a power couple once before and she was more than sure that they could become that power couple once again with the right coercion.
The ringing of a cell phone woke both of them from their slumber. The morning activities had used all their energy but to Olivia, it felt like heaven to be waking up back in Elliot's arms again. She reached out and grabbed her phone from the bedside table.
"Hello, Olivia speaking" Olivia answered the phone, sitting up on the side of the bed whilst Elliot just watched her.
"Olivia, it's Rod Harrison here. I'm sorry to disturb you but I'm calling as we've completed your investigation and I was wondering when you might be free for a meeting?" the voice on the other end spoke up, Olivia felt like the wind had been knocked out of her. They had finished the investigation and now they wanted to talk to her about it?
"Thank you for the call Rod, I am free the rest of this week or next week. When would you like to meet? I'm really interested in getting back to my class" Olivia replied, hoping that the meeting would be sooner rather than later.
"Yes well, how about this afternoon then? Can you make it to school by say, 2:30pm? Or would you prefer we do tomorrow morning?" Rod asked and Olivia knew the sooner the better as that gave her more chance to get back to her class this week.
"No no, today is fine. I will see you at 2:30"
"Alright, I'll see you then Olivia"
"Thank you again for the call Rod, I look forward to catching up later" Olivia disconnected the call and looked back at Elliot, unsure whether the phone call just now was a good or bad sign. She placed the phone back on her night stand and moved over to snuggle in next to him, resting her head and a hand on his chest.
"So that was the principal, he…wants to meet with me this afternoon" Olivia explained, Elliot could sense the hesitancy in her voice.
"That's a good sign" Elliot encouraged, glad he was here when she got the news.
"Well, he's either going to fire me or give me my class back" Olivia expressed.
"You don't know that he will fire you and like we already discussed, whatever happens next, we'll face it together. If it's a bad result then we'll fight it" Elliot continued to try and encourage her, give Olivia some comfort that he wasn't going anywhere.
"I'm not sure that's the kind of headlines you want to attract? 'Business millionaire fights school over mistress work conditions" Olivia remarked like she was reading it straight off a newspaper.
"Well, I fight for those that I love and if it reflects badly then so be it. But you're not a mistress, you are the love of my life" Elliot said as he kissed Olivia softly.
"I don't think they count that as a title in the legal system"
"I do and that's all that matters"
"Alright, come on. If I have to go to school this afternoon then I need to eat and according to the sounds your stomach is making, so do you" Olivia moved to get out of bed, grabbing her robe from the head of the bed to wrap around herself.
"Hey, what can I say? You had me working off my breakfast" Elliot defended himself as he got out of bed and started to gather up his items of clothing that had been flung around the room.
"I didn't hear you complaining" Olivia teased as she made her way out of the bedroom in search of food.
Elliot spent the rest of the day before Olivia's meeting with her and trying to help her not stress about it too much. Whatever happened, he wasn't going anywhere and they would be able to get through this together. The couple spend time just focusing on them and working on what they had together which made Elliot a very good distraction for Olivia. Elliot and Olivia agreed that he would wait to hear from her this afternoon in regards to how everything went and she promised him that she would call when she was able to, she wouldn't just shut him out again.
As the time for the meeting approached, so did the afternoon school pick up and Elliot had to go. He'd promised that he would be there to pick up his children and he knew that Elizabeth really needed that. He would never break a promise to her.
"Whatever happens in there, we'll get through it and we'll do whatever is needed" Elliot encouraged as he gave Olivia one last quick kiss before she got out of the car. She'd agreed to a lift to school but made the driver park around the block, insisting that she would walk the rest of the way as she didn't want to be seen getting out of his car at school. That would not help matters at all.
"Thank you and thank you for coming to me today, I'm sorry for shutting you out but I had to protect you and the twins from anything else" Olivia apologised.
"You don't have to apologise but from now on, let me do the protecting? She's my ex and you're the woman I love" Elliot tried to get Olivia to compromise and she just nodded.
"Oh, well I better go. I'll call you later" Olivia concluded, kissing Elliot once more before climbing out of the car.
"I love you" Elliot called out.
"You too" Olivia replied as she smiled and closed the door. Elliot watched her walk up the street till she was out of sight, rounding the corner to go to school. He said a silent prayer that everything would work out for the best here and then instructed the driver to head to the bakery down the street, deciding to get the twins a special treat before picking them up. He would wait to see what happened with Olivia later before deciding how he approached Kathy on the matter. He was determined to get to the bottom of her motivation behind all of this and he would make it clear to her that Olivia wasn't a subject of her meddling. He wanted Kathy to know that if she continued with her meddling then he would have to take action to control it.
Rod Harrison had been the principal at a number of different schools in his professional career. He'd been the one who was most supportive in hiring Olivia and had been fully supportive for her to be promoted into an executive position at the school. He thought she had been working incredibly well with her time on class and she had been the one who had taken on board the most training teachers as she felt that she had lots to share with them. However, Rod never expected that he would now be required to complete an in-depth investigation into the allegations of inappropriate behaviour between Oliva and a parent. In his honest opinion, Rod believed that whatever teachers did outside of school was nothing to do with him as long as they never brought it into the classroom – as long as it was legal. However, when a parent makes a complaint about a teacher on his staff, he is required to complete an investigation into the matter and that was exactly what he and his team had done in regards to Elliot Stabler and Olivia Benson.
There was evidence that pointed to some kind of relationship between the two occurring with the eye witnesses that had seen Elliot Stabler enter the classroom numerous times in the mornings before school and they had been seen together outside of school. Rod was extremely conflicted in how to approach this as he didn't feel that any of these actions particularly warranted termination of Olivia's contract considering he couldn't find anything to say she had been inappropriate on the school grounds. However, Bernadette Stabler was a very powerful woman and threatened him personally to take action if the appropriate measures were not followed in regards to this complaint. The last thing that Rod wanted was to end up in court or facing more serious issues within the school parent body, if he let this continue. Therefore, he was really left with no option but to transfer Olivia to another school. Rod had connections in both the public and private systems around New York and thus he had arranged for Olivia to take up a position at North Lincoln Street Primary School, beginning next week. They were in need for another classroom teacher due to the early retirement and injury of one of their current teachers and Rod believed that Olivia would fit in at that school. The position would also have good outcomes in terms of her future in executive roles. Rod deemed this as the best outcome for both the complaining family and Olivia. He could only hope that Olivia would be able to see this as the case, especially with her good work record and dedication to her students. He didn't want to face any repercussions professionally from someone whom he had to admit, he really admired professionally. He had arranged for Olivia to come and meet with him this afternoon and he wasn't planning on informing the Stabler's of the outcome of the investigation, other than they had appropriately dealt with the matter at hand.
A/N: Well a meeting with the principal? I wonder how this is going to go?
Hope you enjoyed this chapter, but things are about to get a bit bumpy for everyone and we're in for a bit of a rough ride as i don't think Kathy is going to step down anytime soon?
Leave me a review and let me know what you think? They really help with writing when i don't have the motivation.
Until Next Time ;)
