Epilogue.
"There he is!" It was 2 weeks later and Buck was finally cleared for active duty. As he climbed the stairs the other firefighters greeted him with back slaps, and head ruffling. Buck grinned widely, man he loved his firehouse. There was a giant cake with the words 'Our Hero' on it that warmed his heart in a million different ways. As he blew out the candles he heard someone taking a pic and Eddie standing with a giant grin on his face holding his phone caught his eye.
Eddie had been a blessing during those 2 days as Buck had tried to get back to his feet. But he survived because he had his best friend, who also brought over his favorite person in the world, Chris, after he finished his schoolwork. After eating a giant piece of cake and the gaiety had died down Buck motioned for Eddie to follow him. They went outside and Buck turned to face Eddie. "Buck, was there something you wanted to…"
Suddenly Eddie's arms were filled with all of the 6 ft'2 of pure muscle and puppy dog happiness that was Evan Buckley. "Thank you, Eddie. I'd forgotten about my phone till today and when I heard all those voicemails… I wouldn't know what to do if I lost you either Eds. You're my best friend. Your my brother, Eds." Eddie remained silent but Buck felt Eddie's arms wrap around him and they hugged for who knows how long. It didn't matter though.
Their friendship/Brotherhood was going to last a very, very, very long time. The next day when Eddie got home he brought Buck back with him since Chris had been asking to see him since last week. He'd sat Chris down the night before Buck had been released from the hospital and told Chris just how much Buck was like a brother to him and how much he cared for said brother. Chris had apologized and they'd all moved on.
"Hi you've reached Buck, I'm probably out fighting a fire, so just leave a message and I'll call yah!"
1 new Voicemail.
"Hey Buck can you pick an extra pizza up for movie night at Bobby's tonight? Thx, bro."
Buck grinned and headed to his favorite restaurant. Yup, things had gone back to an even better way than normal. Buck had a wonderful team, surrogate father Bobby, Mother, Athena, Sister Maddie, Nephew Chris and older brother Eddie. And he loved his family with all of his heart.
