*Chapter 3: The Hows and the Whys*

.

*Ichigo Kurosaki*

"I'm sorry, Jonas. I will try to look for her, but I can make no promises," Kisuke responded somberly, his voice and face echoing a sorrow that Ichigo found hit a little close to home. Jonas looked broken, his face crestfallen and blank, too many emotions swirling in his dark blue eyes.

How many times had he caught himself looking like that after his mother died? He hadn't bothered to look into a mirror after he had noticed the sadness on his face, choosing to avoid the looking glasses as much as possible, forgoing even attempting to tame his unruly hair just so he could steer clear of them. The expression on his doppelganger's face was the same, even if it was on his duplicate…no, even if it was on Jonas's face. The other teen had opened his eyes again, but they were downcast and shadowed, loss coloring his dark blue eyes.

Ichigo found it hard to look into them, the sensation of looking at his own hidden pain too much to bear. The face was the same. The sorrow was the same. He just couldn't look.

His twin's friends seemed to respond to his emotional state, sharing matching looks of concern and sympathy. It was almost like they were in tune with each other, their movements coordinated like a well-choreographed dance. Ichigo briefly wondered if it was some form of magic unique to them or what else they had gone through together. It seemed similar to what he had with Chad. The tall Mexican teen just knew him. Very few words needed to pass between them for them to understand each other. It looked the same for their surprise guests.

"So, Urahara, what can you tell us about how this happened?" Rukia was the one to pull him from his spiraling thoughts, the midget somehow managing to yank everyone out of their darkness if Jonas's sharpening gaze was anything to go by. Ichigo smothered a smile. She seemed to affect everyone that way. Even him.

Kisuke frowned before grabbing his fan and doing a 180 on the mood. "I have no idea!" he chirped, hiding what Ichigo was certain was a goofy grin behind that infernal device.

Before Ichigo could stand up and send the blonde into the next room, Rukia punched Kisuke in the nose, sending a spray of crimson into the air. Satisfied once more, the midget sat back down, arms crossed even as the shopkeeper moaned in feigned agony on the floor, crying comical tears that even he could see through.

One of the newcomers stood up—Neil Aga…something…if he remembered right—face suddenly pasty white, before darting for the door, retching as he ran.

.

*Neil Agamon*

He was starting to get bored and frustrated. None of their yapping was getting them anywhere. They were wasting time that could be used to get back home. Back to where things were normal. Who knows how long they had been gone from their world? It could have been days. The gang needed him. He had to get back.

The group had crowded around a small table that Shadow Man—and he had to remember to thank Jonas for that brilliant nickname—supposedly owned and proceeded to talk and talk and Jonas moped around. The brown-haired teen remembered when he was like that not so long ago—the vampire attack that had helped him to wake Engeta Zanu causing the death of the former gang leader and foster father—and how his Weapon was most unfavorable on that mental state.

Glancing inward toward his Weapon, Neil found his doppelganger surrounded by annoyed bright yellow flames in the blank black canvas of his inner world. His pale twin looked like him but everything about him was white. His hair was bleached. His skin white as snow. The only color truly on his body was the dark red irises set into black sclera and matching red fingernails. Thankfully, the duplicate wore an outfit of color to offset his blank palette.

The white teen wore a dark orange kimono that clung to his body like a second skin except for the arms—which while hanging closely to the limbs, was not constrictive, Neil noted—the fabric limply dangling from them, a small bit of extra cloth adding room without making the sleeves too loose. A shifting of the other's stance revealed a deep crimson inner liner to the burnt orange robes, adding depth to the otherwise flat color. The dark red could be further seen in the fabric's stitching, binding all the folds together, as well as revealing its presence in the various accents across the upper garment and the color around the duplicate's neck.

The top split at the waist, flowing past his hips and down towards his knees like a midi dress, revealing a pair of dark red baggy pants beneath the outer robes. They flared at his feet, leaving wide open gaps in their wake, fluttering gently at his ankles. And finally, on his feet were matching crimson socks slipped into a basic flat black sandal, the shoes tied to his soles with an intricate weaving of string that wrapped around the body of his feet and finished at his ankles. The footwear was soundly secured to his duplicate's lower extremity in a manner demanding intentional defeat for there was no way they were falling off by accident mid-fight.

Neil also saw a red flame design etched carefully into the bottom of the robe's top half, appearing as if fire itself was licking the trailing tangerine fabric, the effect dramatized as it swirled around the doppelganger's knees. The upper robes shifted slightly upon his chest, allowing bright white skin to contrast sharply with the darker color, revealing familiar muscle structure to the dual wielder.

And in the pale twin's hands were a pair of matching dual long swords. They were blades matching his own in length, the sharp edges bathed in shades of orange and intimidating crimson flames, just slightly beyond the length of one of his arms when fully extended if one included the shoulder while measuring. The imposing Weapons appeared shrouded in the reds permeating their edges, giving off a potentially demonic red aura that promised searing agony upon meeting their blades.

If Neil hadn't seen the distinct shadow on his doppelganger's kimono, he would have never glimpsed the pure black handles attached to the tangerine blades. Dark cloths were tightly bound to elegant ebony handles which seemed to absorb all nearby light and let free none from its grasp, allowing them to hide in plain sight. They appeared to be nearly as long as the length between his fingertips to his elbow joint, looking to be cumbersome in their usage. But he knew from personal experience, casting a quick glance at the matching dual long swords sheathed on his waist—which always appeared with him when he ventured into his mind—that appearances could be deceiving—and that the handles never truly got in the way if you used the blades correctly.

The sight of his duplicate mirroring his frustration helped to ease his own irritation, if only slightly. His mindscape mirrored their emotions, the world bathed in bright yellow flames. And apparently, the small black-haired girl—Rukia he thought he remembered—got fed up with Yretro's very poor answer with the perfect response. She punched him in the nose. And if his own stomach hadn't turned as the blood sprayed into the air, he may have applauded her choice of action. As it was, he could barely stand and run from the building.

His skin was clammy as he broke out into a sudden sweat, limbs trembling in response to the bright red blood flying through the air. Crimson tinged the edges of his vision and he vomited as he ran from the store, leaving a trail of his lunch outside. His ears were ringing with a need. A desperate desire for something that caused his insides to burn up in unnatural heat and for his mouth to begin salivating. He leaned against one of the store's outside posts, gasping for air, the cool atmosphere doing nothing to quell the inferno rising up within him. Engeta Zanu's voice was suddenly far away and getting fainter.

Neil flinched when someone touched his shoulder. Then all he saw was black.

.

*Jonas Mazeri*

Jonas jerked as Neil stood and ran from the store, his ribbon shimmering iridescent and his aura emanating 'panic'. Something was wrong, dangerously wrong with his dual wielder friend as the other teen darted outside, retching as he went. The distinct lack of stable red and ruby flecks to the brown-haired teen's essence ribbon triggered an alarm to sound loudly in the silver-haired teen's head, even as he stumbled to his feet in response to the dramatic exit, body shuddering with rising concern.

He caught a whiff of iron that lingered on the air, the scent causing a burst of cold to slam through his chest. He stifled a gasp as he chased after Neil, feeling as he went that things were progressing in the wrong direction. And suddenly too, otherwise the dual wielder would have told him. They agreed to, and to keep this to themselves lest the others find out. Possibly being, or becoming, a vampire was not a fact they wanted the others to discover. Too worried about rejection, the two of them had decided to handle it on their own.

Too late now.

He noticed that Neil had stopped just outside the store's entrance. As Jonas approached, he felt Neil's ribbon shift and coil around itself as it began glowing an ominous red. One that caused dread to sink into a pit in his stomach. Despite every instinct in his body telling him to run, he reached out for the other boy and touched his shoulder. Faint hope to reach the other teen pushed him into gently setting his hand on the other's shoulder.

Hope which was promptly smothered as Neil spun around, arm cocked, and teeth bared in a hiss. His canines were elongated, glinting white under the rising moon. Their worries were happening. Neil was transforming into a vampire!

Neil swung his fist forward, movement sloppy but catching Jonas off guard, a vacant look residing in the teen's now glowing red eyes. The force of the blow knocked the wind out of him and tossed him back into the store through the open doorway. Jonas crashed through a display of various odd-looking packages with a grunt and watched as his friend took off down the street and disappeared into the shadows.

"Neil!"

Before he could stumble to his feet, he saw purple blossoms falling around him and his vision blurred and became black.

.

*Rukia Kuchiki*

That idiot! Now is not the time for his usual antics.

She punched Urahara in the nose, proudly feeling it pop beneath her fists as blood sprayed from his face. She sat down, crossing her arms over her chest, faintly pleased with the results of her actions. Kisuke was moaning on the floor, clutching his face, and crying about no one appreciating his attempt at lightening the tension. She nearly rolled her eyes in response, but out of the corner of her vision, she watched one of the interlopers, Neil Agamon, tear out of the room like he was going to be sick. And making all the noises to indicate such an action.

She eyed him curiously, especially as Ichigo's twin chased after him, his face blanching even as he stumbled to his feet. She thought she caught a faint red glow striking his dark blue eyes, but couldn't say for certain, for he followed his ally out of the store. There was something that sounded like a hiss before he was tossed back into the store, colliding with one of the candy displays Urahara had erected, causing everyone to jerk to their feet. Before Jonas could fully stand, Urahara was next to him, using Hakufuku.

Why would he use something like that? What is going on right now?

Urahara picked the silver-haired teen up bridal style and brought him back into the room, his gray eyes looking worried. At the look on his face, everyone tensed in concern and alarm. Ichigo's constantly swirling power rose subconscious in response, causing her to elbow him. He hissed and glared at her while holding his side, but her actions did what she wanted. It distracted him enough that his spiritual pressure lessened.

"What are you doing? Why did you use Hakufuku?" Rukia demanded, flustered by Kisuke's actions and trying to cover it up by being loud. Thankfully, she didn't think anyone would see through the act.

Tessai stepped back into the room apparently drawn by the ruckus the two teenagers created. He glanced at Urahara, then down at the silver-haired teen in Kisuke's arms, before taking the downed boy without a word and retreating back into the store.

Kisuke straightened his spine, settled the hat on his head, and said, "I need you all to stay right here while I bring your friend back." He was addressing the interlopers. "Please wait patiently."

It was all he said before he ran from the store, presumably hot on the other teen's trail. He ignored everyone's shouts of outrage and confusion, including her own, disappearing in a flash.

.

*Ichigo Kurosaki*

What the hell is going on? The orange-haired teen pondered. He wasn't stupid, but he had a hard time following what was going on. It had happened so fast. First, Rukia punched Hat and Clogs—which he didn't not deserve. Then the brown-haired boy ran from the store followed by Jonas. Whom Urahara knocked unconscious with some spell and gave to Tessai before he went after the boy that ran off himself.

And Kisuke had told them not to leave the store? What could have Hat and Clogs so worried that he told them to stay here?

What the hell is going on?

.

The thirst for energy was so strong. He could barely see through the crimson haze clouding his eyes. Finally granted freedom, the beast loped around the block, finding nothing to satiate the growing hunger and desire within him. Need burned his throat, begging for the fire to be quenched. But nothing in the area beckoned him. It was like the world was without color. Without life. Although he could see the humans travelling about, clear as day beneath the moonlight. But their presences were dim.

Drinking from them wouldn't do anything except to replenish his blood supply. Which was currently full and not needing to be topped off. He growled, the sound reverberating deep in his chest, before sticking his nose to the air in a desperate bid to smell sustenance. He was rewarded with a strong, powerful scent. A cluster of smells. His mouth began to water. Yes, they would be fine prey.

He darted into a building, slipping through the shadows instinctively, choosing a presence wrapped in cold that promised relief from the burning tearing up his insides. He shifted into position even as his target tensed, somehow detecting his approach. Without waiting for her to move or sound an alarm, he leapt forward and sunk his teeth into her skin, feeling her power flow easily into him.

From far away, the beast thought he heard a voice cry out to stop.

Then another voice pulled him from his meal.

.

*Shila Mezere*

She knew the instant that short girl hit Master Kosuka that Neil would react. It had happened before when they were training, the sight of blood either making him sick or momentarily making his eyes glow red like a feral vampire's. This time, it did both, slightly stunning her at the speed and intensity of his response. He had fled as soon as the blood hit the air, causing her to look after him in concern. While the Firebrand could be a pain in the ass, she had discovered during their training that the two of them were compatible fighting partners.

And she couldn't help but to admit, if only to herself for she would never speak it aloud, that she admired his ability to leap into any situation, confident in his ability to win despite any lack of knowledge about an opponent. She preferred having as much information as possible and learning all she could, in order to properly contain or kill a foe, oftentimes feeling apprehensive about her skill when faced with ignorance. Not that she would ever allow her lack of confidence to show, either. She was the daughter of two prominent war archers. She would not show such weakness around anyone.

Her gaze lingered after the fleeing dual wielder, wondering what had happened the night the vampires attacked his gang to cause his adverse reactions to the sight of blood. She had never had the right moment to inquire, but his behavior had changed that night. Before that, he reveled in blood and mayhem to a degree, but now, he fled it or even became ill. Maybe she should have insisted on discovering what happened. His essence aura was a mess, completely unstable. And as Jonas bolted after the Firebrand, she noticed that his wasn't much better.

A loud crash had startled everyone to their feet, followed by Yretro using what Rukia referred to as Hakufuku on Jonas, causing him to collapse and for his essence aura to stabilize. Then, the silver-haired teen that had brought them all together was taken away by the big man to a location entirely hidden from her senses. Now, Jonas's aura was completely unreadable, whatever the other guy had done entirely blocking him from her senses. But she knew he was still alive. It was faint, but she could just barely make out where he was taken.

She frowned as she tried to sense Neil. It took a mere second, but his presence blossomed around her, causing her to tense as she concentrated harder. Trying to find where exactly he was. But that couldn't be right. It felt like…

She felt fangs pierce the skin on her neck and she gasped, shivers of hot and cold flooding her body as she felt her energy and blood getting drained from her body. Beneath the sensations ravaging her mentally and physically, she felt a connection spark in her mind, a burning fire that screamed inside her head and muddled her thoughts. It was clawing her from the inside out, overwhelming heat and pain that seared her brain as she fought and struggled against the teeth latched onto her neck. She felt her strength dwindle rapidly, causing her to sag slightly. An arm slid over her stomach, pulling her close to a warm body that hummed with familiar energy that she couldn't put a name to, her mind fuzzy and distant in his embrace. Then she heard Neil's voice. But it wasn't in her ear. It was in her mind!

"Bakudo Number One: Sai!" she heard Rukia shout.

Shila felt her captor release her, teeth detaching from her neck and allowing her to think once more. The unique power belonging to the Firebrand suddenly triggered her recognition of the dual wielder—as her attacker no less—a split second before she fainted.

.

*Ichigo Kurosaki*

He never even realized that guy was back in here until Rukia shouted the same spell that she had first used against him. Back before he became a soul reaper. A time when things were relatively normal, if one considered the ability to see souls as normal. He blinked, stunned at the speed of events surrounding him. Dammit, I need to get faster. Neil's arms were pulled behind his back, and the girl that he bit was unconscious on the floor. In what sounded like frustration, the brown-haired boy began to growl and struggle, his brown eyes glowing crimson. Fangs he didn't have when they all first sat down were dripping red with blood.

What the hell? Did he seriously just bite that girl like a vampire?

Neil growled again, a feral look to his eyes as he muttered lowly, "Turn them, Kisi Ri." As he hissed the phrase under his breath, Ichigo's eyebrows hiked up into his hair line and the snarling teen burst forth from Rukia's binding spell. In his hands was a thin, almost plain rapier roughly half the length of his zanpakuto. Another blink put the brown-haired boy directly in front of him with no room to dodge or otherwise move. Ichigo gasped in pain as the rapier Neil wielded was thrust into his chest, buried all the way up to the hilt.

"Ichigo!" Rukia shouted in dismay and concern as, once again, a blade was stabbed into his chest.

He could barely glance downward, his body screaming in searing pain as the sharp edge sliced a path through him. With hazy attention, he noticed that the Neil kid was hissing and spitting in his face, surrounded by purple energy that seemed to be preventing the out-of-control teen from advancing further. As his attacker's grip slipped on the weapon buried in his sternum, he collapsed to his knees, the motion jarring the blade in his chest. He hissed in response despite vaguely being aware that he should be dead already. It had already been too long.

"Bakudo Number 61: Rikujokoro." Ichigo saw six yellow rods penetrate Neil's body, pinning the screeching boy in place as he howled and raged in incoherent frustration. He wheezed as he struggled to breathe. His chest felt tight around the blade impaled in him. He reached up to grasp the handle, cringing as his hand made contact with the weapon. A figure blurred into his vision as Kisuke knelt down in front of him, gray eyes hooded with concern. Behind him, the purple aura dissipated. "Just relax a moment, Ichigo. Don't try to pull it out." Then the shopkeeper stood and returned his attention to Neil. Placing his hand over the brown-haired berserker's face, he chanted, "Inemuri."

As Neil slumped in the Bakudo spell's containment, the rapier protruding from Ichigo's chest and impairing his breathing disappeared, taking with it the pain and the appearance of the wound caused by it. As Ichigo gasped, suddenly able to breathe freely again, he brought a hand up to stroke his chest where he was stabbed. His hand came away clean and a quick glance assured himself that it was like he was never stabbed at all.

What the hell?

Tessai returned to the room to retrieve Neil and Shila, not saying any words at all even though Ichigo was quite certain a fair amount of non-verbal communication was going on between him and Urahara. The tall man glanced at Ichigo and then back to Kisuke, but Hat and Clogs shook his head to the unasked question. "Not yet." Tessai bowed in response and then left, leaving the remaining group to their own devices.

After he caught his breath, Ichigo demanded, "Okay, Hat and Clogs. What the hell just happened?

Terminology

My Universe:

Beasts:

Dark Severiin: think of a Deviljho from Monster Hunter when you think of this thing. Physically, it is a bit different, but I am using a lot of comparisons to describe characters and things. This is the thing I am vaguely describing at the beginning of the chapter that Jonas and his friends were fighting. The characters from my story are being pulled from their timeline during the Dark Severiin fight in Arc 1 of Chronicles of Seraphia (the book series I am working on).

.

Magic (Weapons):

Magic Weapon: a magical Weapon bound to an individual from birth. Magic Weapons are created from Weapon Spirits that choose a child as it is born and meld with the newborn's spirit to become their Magic Weapon later in life. Weapon Spirits are reincarnated whenever they choose a new wielder (after they are separated from their current one). Typically wielded only by living people in either the Light World or the Dark World. Used to send spirits on to the realms.

.

Weapon Magic Wielder: Weapon Magic Wielders are able to manipulate the Magic Essence in their bodies to summon powerful Weapons and communicate with the Weapon Essences to gain new powers and abilities. If one can only use Weapon Magic, then they are also referred to as Guardians (this term can also be used for someone that uses a Spirit Weapon or Hell Weapon if the Weapon is the only magical ability they have).

.

.

Weapon Spirit/Weapon Essence: the personality and appearance of a Magic or Spirit Weapon within and beyond the wielder's inner world. Each one has a unique appearance and powers. They choose to bind to an individual's spirit (typically at birth) and help to shape their wielder's development. In the end, it is hard (sometimes) to distinguish the two from each other (what is the natural state of the wielder and what part of the wielder's personality and traits were influenced by the Weapon kind of question).

.

Tasha Rein: Jonas's Magic Weapon

.

Engeta Zanu: Neil Agamon's Magic Weapon.

.

Kisi Ri: Magic Weapon belonging to The Matriarch and, by extension, the feral vampires under her control.

.

.

Magic Weapon Classes: Magic Weapons have classes which determine how exactly they are used, along with describing total size of the Weapons etc. Basically, a dual longsword class is different than a dual short sword class and indicates the length of the blades. There are also dual classes which will be explained later.

.

.

Weapon Summon Spell: each Magic Weapon has a specific phrase or word that allows their wielder to bring them into the world (summon their weapon). This is similar to the phrase used by a soul reaper to awaken their zanpakuto to Shikai.

.

Kisi Ri summon spell: Turn Them

.

.

Weapon Dispel Spell: each Magic Weapon has a specific phrase or word that allows their wielder to disperse the magic essence forming their weapon, allowing it to disappear (dispel their weapon). Currently, there is no known way for a soul reaper to do something like this, since their zanpakuto is a physical creation and not summoned out of reishi.

.

Tasha Rein dispel spell: Disappear

.

.

Magic (Incantations):

Magic (Spellcaster):

Magic (Spiritual):

Magic (Elemental Spirit):

Vampire Specific:

Werewolf Specific:

Shini/Light Spirit Specific:

Shade/Dark Spirit Specific:

Sinner/Hell Spirit Specific:

Demon Specific:

.

Humanoid Characters:

Jonas Mazeri: main character in Chronicles of Seraphia. short, spiky silver hair. Dark blue eyes. 5'7". Skinny and toned. 16 years old. Wields Tasha Rein.

.

Neil Agamon- 5'7". Short and straight brown hair. Brown eyes. He appears average build with clothes on but is physically fit. 16 years old. Wields Engeta Zanu.

.

Shila Mezere- 5'4". Long silver hair that reaches between her shoulder blades. Light blue eyes. Thin. 16 years old. Wields Juka Reyno. Uses Ice Subclass Magic.

.

Casey Urdoni- 5'4". Long black hair. Dark blue eyes so dark they are almost black. Impassive face. 15 years old. Wields ?

.

Kienan Urdoni- 5'8". Short black hair. Black eyes. 16 years old. Wields ?

.

Michael Koto- 5'7". Brown eyes. Short light blonde hair. 16 years old. Wields ?

.

Shila Emetere- ?

.

Extra Notes/General Seraphia Worldbuilding:

Jonas Mazeri's appearance: So, I never fully describe exactly what his face (or anyone else's face really) in my universe looks like. I give the basic hair and eye color, heights, and builds but I leave the faces open to the imagination (unless there is a specific scar I wish to address). So, I thought, how cool would it be if Jonas looked like Ichigo? (guess you can figure out which character I like the most, eh?)

.

Light World/Dark World: two different worlds that exist as copies of each other. This is where all life lives before it dies. (think of them like the World of the Living in Bleach.)

.

Realms: There are actually 12 realms where spirits live after life. 10 of them exist where their specific magics are prominent (and each of these 10 have a light side and a dark side to them). Then, there is Hell (realm of Sinners). Finally, there is the Otherlands (which is the realm of ALL Weapon Spirits).

.

Betweenlands: The dimension that keeps all the realms and the worlds connected. (kind of like the Dangai).

.

In my universe, all things give off essence ribbons. Everything has a small amount of magic essence which then strongly or weakly gives off an aura of power. So, Jonas has the ability to see these ribbons (all ribbons) and since there aren't that many Essence Ribbons in this universe (because the only ones currently belong to him and his friends), it is far easier for him to search for his missing friend this way.

.

In my universe, before the kids got sent to the Bleach universe, both Neil and Jonas were attacked by vampires under someone's control named The Matriarch. The Matriarch is a person with the Magic Weapon, Kisi Ri, and she can use it to transform people into vampires. Those that she initiates the change with, can use her Weapon to varying degrees.

Bleach Universe:

Magic:

Kido: The over-arching classification of spells used by soul reapers. Divided into Bakudo, Hado, or Kaido.

.

Bakudo Spells: Way of Binding. Spells used to restrain or restrict movement or spells.

.

Bakudo #1 Sai: a weak binding kido spell that forces the target's hands behind their back.

.

Bakudo #61: Rikujokoro: Six-Rod Light Restraint.

.

Inemuri: Forced Slumber spell. User holds their hand in front of their victim's face, the victim's pupils dilate several times before they pass out.

.

Hakufuku: White Concealment: a spell that causes the target to see the illusion of purple cherry blossoms falling around them, sometimes also along with the smell of sweet flowers. Then their vision blurs and their mind becomes disoriented and confused before they fall unconscious. Target has an unclear memory once they awaken.

.

Tanma Otoshi: Time-Out Drop. The kido spell that Shinji used to knock Ichigo unconscious before his struggle with his inner hollow with the visoreds.

.

.

Hado Spells: Way of Destruction. Spells used to inflict damage.

.

Kaido: Healing Spiritual Arts. The spells and abilities used by soul reapers to heal injuries.

.

Quincy Specific:

Quincy: A human that can manipulate spirit particles in the air to form a bow and arrow. When they kill hollows, they destroy their souls.

.

Soul Reaper Specific:

Soul Reaper (Death God/Shinigami): A dead spirit that guides lost souls to the afterlife via Konso.

.

Zanpakuto (Soul Cutter): a weapon born from a soul reaper's soul. The fragment of their soul that is forged for battle.

.

Shikai: the first true release of a zanpakuto. Considered the second form of a zanpakuto since all normal soul reapers wield sealed swords.

.

Release Shikai: To release a zanpakuto to Shikai in the bleach universe, each of them has a unique call phrase that causes the sword to transform into its shikai release.

.

Seal Zanpakuto: Soul Reapers can seal their zanpakuto after releasing it and finishing their battle. Those wielding Magic Weapons can do the same thing.

.

Bankai: the second and final release of a zanpakuto. Considered the third form of a zanpakuto since all normal soul reapers wield sealed swords. The achievement of Bankai can increase a fighter's power by 5 to 10 times and oftentimes takes up to 10 years to master its usage.

.

Konso: Soul Burial. Allows a Whole to pass onto the Soul Society.

.

Hollow Specific:

Hollow: A spirit being that ate out its own heart in its suffering and one that continues searching for spirit energy and souls to relieve its never-ending hunger and desire to fulfill the emptiness of its existence.

(You all should read 'On the precipice of defeat' by MissFlesh. Holy crap! I loved the unique perspective of a Hollow that this writer gives. So many fanfictions skip over the gruesome aspects of existing as a hollow and portray it like some sort of glamorous existence that downplays how horrible being a hollow really is (they romanticize it, not that I am saying the other stories are bad by any stretch. They aren't, but they don't fully immerse you in the terrible state of being a hollow like this fanfiction does) and this author got into the nitty-gritty of life as a hollow and truly captured how bad life as one is. Truly a magnificent read and gives a whole new perspective of life as a monster.) It isn't completed and I don't think it ever will be, but there is plenty of story here to sink your teeth into that it fully captures the hopelessness of that life.

.

Menos Grande: A classification of the three most-powerful forms that hollows can take. Gillian is the lowest. Adjuchas is the middle. Vasto Lorde is the highest.

.

Gillian: that monster hollow that Ichigo and Uryu fought at the beginning. The lowest of the class of Menos Grande hollows.

.

Hybrid (Visored/Arrancar) Specific:

.

Characters:

Ichigo Kurosaki: Main character for Bleach. Wields the zanpakuto, Zangetsu.

.

Uryu Ishida: He is a Quincy. Calls himself the Last Quincy.

.

Rukia Kuchiki: The Soul Reaper that gave Ichigo his soul reaper powers.

.

Tessai Tsukabishi: an employee of Urahara Shop and a childhood friend of Kisuke and Yoruichi. He is also the former Kido Commander in the Gotei 13.

.

Extra Notes/General Bleach Worldbuilding:

Hueco Mundo: The world of the Hollows.

.

Soul Society: the place where spirits pass onto (heaven).

.

World of the Living: Earth. Where humans live out their lives and die.

Urahara Shop: the candy store belonging to Kisuke Urahara. Based in the World of the Living. Home to Kisuke, Tessai, Jinta, and Ururu.

Close Similarities/Similar Skills:

Magic Weapon/Zanpakuto/Spirit Weapon: Magic Weapons and Spiritual Magic Weapons are similar to zanpakuto in that they are Weapons unique to an individual. However, their origins are different.

.

Essence Ribbon/Spirit Ribbon: In Bleach, Spirit Ribbons turn red if a person is a soul reaper, otherwise they are white. This is how Uryu said that he figured out about Ichigo and Rukia. They are visible rays of spirit energy.

In my universe, Essence Ribbons change color and pattern based on the magical abilities the person has demonstrated to be capable of using. They can also have auras. They are visible rays of magic energy and get their name from magic's base term: Magic Essence.

In this fanfiction, one can detect how someone is feeling (emotionally or physically) by touching their ribbon. This is a more advanced technique than simply feeling someone's pressure/aura.

.

Divine Sight/Seeing Spirit Ribbons: In Bleach, Rukia states that the ability to see Spirit Ribbons (rays of spirit energy) is something that only high-ranking soul reapers can use.

Divine Sight is the special ability to see Essence Ribbons.

.

Essence Aura/Spiritual Pressure (Reiatsu): In Bleach, Spiritual Pressure is the pressure that a person's spiritual power (Reiryoku) exerts (described like reiryoku output).

Essence Aura is the pressure that a person's magical power exerts. It gets its name from magic's base term: Magic Essence.

In this fanfiction, one can detect how someone is feeling (emotionally or physically) by feeling their aura. This is typically a beginner technique, but the more advanced sensing requirements put it more in the intermediate category.

.

Energy/Spiritual Power (Reiryoku): In Bleach, a person's spiritual power/spiritual energy is referred to as Reiryoku. It is their personal wellspring of power that is all their own. Each person has a certain amount and a limit they cannot surpass.

In my universe, this is referred to as Energy. In my universe, Energy can be divided into 2 categories: Magic Energy and Spirit Energy (with Spirit Energy being a mere subset of Magic Energy).

In this fanfiction, when one's spiritual power/energy is exhausted, the person collapses from lack of remaining energy.

.

Magic Essence/Reishi (spiritual matter): In Bleach, reishi is what makes up objects in Soul Society and Hueco Mundo. The concentrations there are higher because they are the two spirit worlds of Bleach although some does exist in the World of the Living.

Magic Essence: the basis of ALL magical happenings in my universe. My entire world is formed from Magic Essence (which broken down is called Essence Elements, which we won't touch on until much later). Therefore, nearly all magic skills have some part of their name coming from one of these two words.

.

Essence Elements/Atoms (Kishi): Kishi is like the World of the Living version of Reishi and makes up nearly all objects in the World of the Living and is a term to describe atoms as a whole.

Essence Elements are my universe's version of protons, neutrons, and electrons. The term as a whole can be used interchangeably with magic essence while referring to a single element cannot. They are further broken down into Sub-Elemental Essences (which are basically subatomic).

.

Inner World/Mindscape/Realm of the Zanpakuto: this definition is basically identical between universes. Regardless of what phrase one wants to use, they all mean the same thing. Inner World. Inner Mind. Mindscape. Landscape of the Mind. Realm of the Weapon Spirit. Realm of the Zanpakuto. Literally all refers to the place in a wielder's mind where the Weapon resides and where they go to commune directly with the Weapon that is a part of them.

.

Magic Weapon Auto-Dispel/Zanpakuto Auto-Seal: Just like how zanpakutos revert back to their sealed state when their wielder is knocked unconscious, a similar thing happens when a Magic Weapon Wielder is knocked unconscious (their Weapon dispels).

.

Yretro Kosuka- is Kisuke Urahara.

Final Notes:

I want to thank Andygoesrawr from Reddit for the amazing breakdown of the differences between the terms Reishi, Reiryoku, and Reiatsu that he posted nearly 8 years ago on the Reddit page: The Difference between Reishi, Reiryoku and Reiatsu. He also covered the concept of Kishi. I found this page and read it to make sure I wasn't messing up the distinction between the three too badly (turns out that I really was and, in my confusion over the terms when I was laying the foundation for the magic in my world, I ended up doing the same thing as this here was. Go figure).

.

Also, I am editing how I am doing the terminology, etc. and how it will all be organized. Hopefully, it is better than previously. I am also planning on including all the definitions etc. at the end of the chapters (as opposed to stating which chapter I defined them at the beginning of the chapter and pushing off the start of the story each time).

.

I know I stated that Kisuke is Yretro from my universe. So, based on the above information, one would be correct in believing that he should have an Essence Ribbon. However, the reason why this is not true is because he was essentially reborn in the Bleach universe. Therefore, he follows their natural laws not mine.

.

And the people in my world do not use glasses. This is why Jonas has no clue what they are.

.

I am also aware that I am repeating the terms, etc. at the end of the chapters, but I felt it would be easier on the reader than if they had to search a different chapter each time they wanted a refresher.

.

I have to say that I love the Bleach Wiki. Here's a shout of thanks to everyone that made that website into the brilliant resource that it is. I would never remember all the specific spells otherwise.

.

I have Kisuke using Inemuri and Hakufuku here and I don't think it is too out of character for him to be doing so simply because he was a captain and founded the Department of Research and Development in canon. He didn't get into either position by not knowing his stuff. I think that he knows, and would use, these spells when the situation warranted it. (Besides, in this version, he is also Yretro Kosuka, and that guy wouldn't pass up on learning any skill if he could.)

.

I have Rukia being aware of Hakufuku because I think she would have studied a lot more and been more knowledgeable simply because she was adopted into the Kuchiki clan and more would have been expected of her. Whether or not she would use it would be irrelevant. She couldn't fail to learn all that she could, or she would tarnish the Kuchiki name.
