CHAPTER 2: LAY OF THE LAND
The next day, everyone was over Claire Montana's house. Also with them was Claire's boyfriend Vincent, who was laying low until he had more info on the poachers. He had gotten a map/layout of the poacher's compound and where the kangaroos were being held. All knew it was time to free the animals back into the wild before anything bad would happen to them.
"As you can see, the 'roos are housed in this barn 'ere," said Vincent. "Their watch-house is there near the main buildin'. We can enter th' compound from 'ere on th' west, or 'ere on th' east. Now th' watchman takes a break every four hours, usually around 11PM. He goes back into th' main compound t' sleep for a spell. That's when we help th' 'roos escape."
"Great plan, darling," said Claire, who then kissed her boyfriend.
"So who will sit out there and help the kangaroos escape?" asked Franklin.
"We will need two guys t' help with th' escape," said Vincent.
"Charlie Brown and I can help!" volunteered Linus.
"Linus!" said a shocked Charlie Brown.
"Great, guys!" said Claire. "We can use all th' help we can get."
"Are you nuts?!" whispered Charlie Brown to his best friend. "I want to help the kangaroos escape the poachers, too, but shouldn't the authorities get involved here?!"
"This is our chance to make a difference, Charlie Brown," Linus explained. "We'd be heroes."
"This is a bit dangerous," Frieda chimed in. "I don't want my baby getting hurt, Linus."
"We will be careful, Frieda," assured Linus.
"We all will be careful," added Jadan. "We know there's a danger t' this. But don't forget, my folks are helpin' in this, as well."
"Well, all right," relented Charlie Brown. "So what's the plan?"
"We will need you guys at one o' th' places Vincent pointed out," said Claire. "Th' rest will act as lookout. I will 'ave m' dad's truck t' load th' 'roos on t' bring 'em back to th' wild."
"Be careful, Charles and Linus," said Marcie.
"We will, Marcie," Linus replied.
"Now, Franklin, Skylar, Zac, and Andrew, we will need you guys t' help with directing th' 'roos to th' truck," Claire continued. "After Charles and Linus help in releasing them, you guys will direct them to m' truck."
"Okay," said Franklin.
"I gotcha, Claire," added Andrew.
"Jadan, you will be working closely with me," said Claire. "We will bring th' 'roos back to th' bush country once we are far enough away."
"I'll come with y' girls, for safety," offered Andrew.
"That's sweet o' you, babe," said Jadan to Andrew, "but I'll need you 'ere t' watch for any of th' poachers following us and t' warn us via walkie talkies."
"I'll go with 'em, Drew," said Vincent.
"Thanks, mate," said Andrew.
"Who will be the lookouts?" asked Eudora.
"We'll 'ave you girls act as lookouts," said Claire. "T' keep y' men safe and out o' harm's way."
"You know we will," assured Frieda. Peppermint Patty, who pretty much remained quiet during the whole meeting, looked down as she had no one to look out for besides the other guys. Franco was back in Sparkyville and probably still upset with her over the whole Zac situation. So, in a move that was unusual for her, she remained quiet and just listened in.
