Pre-Story Notes:

Yes, this will be an IchiRuki fanfiction (along with a few other pairings that you may not expect), although I'm not sure how much romance I plan on covering in this one. Maybe I'll do a sequel that ties up some loose ends in these areas but I'm not sure. Or I'll find a way to weave it into the story and make it an epic. *Shrug* Eventually, the story will deviate a lot from the established canon (with events happening at different times etc.), so it's possible that I may just put it all together. I haven't really decided. I mean, I have the entire timeline written out in a separate Word document. But not all the finer details. It stands to reason that this storyline will have a great deal of minor subplots that get focused on before moving to the bigger areas, to give every character a chance to grow and become more than they started as.

But enough of me yammering, onwards to the story!

*Chapter 7: Connections*

.

*Jonas Mazeri*

Jonas knew it was going to be interesting later, but he wasn't expecting just how funny it would be to hear the girlish scream from the other room—and the subsequent brawl that had ensued—when Ichigo eventually woke up. While he stifled a laugh the best he could, beside him, Neil broke out into hysterics, shattering the tenuous connection the three of them—Shila, Neil, and himself—maintained.

While Ichigo was recovering, Yretro insisted that the three of them work on communicating via their blood connection. It was an altogether different means of conveying thoughts than speaking out loud and required a certain measure of concentration between them.

And while Neil was directly connected to Shila via their Blood Imprint and Jonas was connected to Neil via his Force Submission of Neil's vampirism—something referred to as a Blood Tie, according to the silver-haired teen's Blood Memories—Jonas's connection to Shila was tenuous at best. Which was what Yretro desired that they rectify as quickly as possible.

.

*Flashback*

Jonas followed Yretro away from the spare room where Ichigo was resting, deciding that being as far away from that place as possible was probably a good idea for now. He had no desire to stare at his duplicate in such a vulnerable position. Besides, the whole thing was nagging at him, and he wanted to ask the master swordsman about it.

Once in the front room, Yretro offered him tea. For a few minutes, they simply sipped the hot liquid, enjoying the taste and heat it brought to their bodies.

Eventually, Yretro spoke, "You have questions." It was more of a statement than a question. A confirmation of sorts. Jonas nodded in affirmation.

"Why does he look, and sound like me?"

Yretro set his tea down on the table and closed his eyes. "Does he look like you?" He looked up and pinned Jonas with a measuring stare. I'm never going to get over how he has gray eyes now. "Or do you look like him?"

"Huh?"

"Let me explain it another way." Yretro took a sip of his tea. "When you look into a body of water, or a mirror, what do you see?" The blonde cradled the teacup in his hand, gently swirling the liquid in its embrace.

"My reflection," Jonas replied, furrowing his brows. Where is he going with this?

"Exactly. In simplistic terms, think of our two universes as being mirrors of each other. And when you take into account how similar both worlds are on a basic level, the very differences that set them apart from one another are where we get the variations from."

"How does this explain why we look almost the same?"

"I think it has to do with the very situations surrounding your separate lineages and the parallels between them that led to this scenario. But honestly, I am not sure. It could be because the magic essence and reishi compositions of the two of you operate on nearly an identical wavelength that has resulted in this." Yretro—no, Kisuke, he is far different than the master swordsman that I remember. He was a keen strategist but had demonstrated no science background that I recall—paused when Jonas put his head in his hands.

The silver-haired teen had a headache. So much of what the blonde said went so far over his head that he wasn't sure what to make of it all. The basic idea he understood—that the two worlds were reflections of each other—but the deeper understanding went beyond what he was ever taught in Primary School.

"Have you started working on communicating through your Blood Tie with Neil and Shila?" Yretro—no, wait a minute, it's actually Kisuke—inquired, driving the conversation in a different direction. Jonas was glad for the subject change. He wasn't sure how much more technical the topic could have gotten before he was hopelessly lost.

"No, why?"

"You should. It would be beneficial to all three of you to strengthen the bond that you now possess and determine its limits for yourself."

Jonas looked down at his hands. For the first time in his life, he was uncomfortable in his own skin. While Miseanu insisted that he wasn't a monster, he couldn't reconcile that fact with his heart. Vampires had taken his parents away from him, murdering them right before his very eyes. And now, he was one of them. The knowledge swirling through his Blood Memories kept flaunting that fact in front of him and he wasn't sure what he thought about it.

No one else had said anything, but surely, they had to be thinking something about it. And what would Maku and Sima, his twin younger siblings, think about it if he saw them again? Would they call him a monster, too?

'Why do you believe that you are a monster?' Tasha Rein inquired in his mind, her voice soft as a whispering breeze.

Jonas turned his attention inward, joining her in the clearing in his mind. She was perched on the stone at the center, head tilted slightly upwards toward the moon. Her pale skin seemed to glow under the moonlight and for a moment, all he could do was to stare at her sadly. He wished that she understood the pain in his heart and why he thought the way he did.

"I would think that you, of all people, would understand," he murmured.

Tasha Rein turned her head toward him, a small smile parting her lips, revealing slightly longer canines. A residual effect of him becoming a vampire, no doubt. 'What determines the goodness of a spirit?' She turned her gaze back toward the moon. Miseanu was nowhere in sight, but Jonas could still feel her presence, lurking at the edges of the clearing beneath the trees.

Jonas frowned at his Weapon's question. "What do you mean?"

'Is goodness determined by what you are? Or by who?'

Jonas's eyes widened in shock before he protested, "But vampires are killers! They have murdered hundreds of people! And now, I am a vampire too!"

'Not all vampires are killers. Just as not all humans are saints. Nor are all Light Spirits pure. What you are, does not define you. It is who you are, that determines if you are good or evil.' Miseanu approached Jonas from behind, emerging from the shadows of the trees surrounding the clearing. She seemed to step out of the darkness and into the light, fading into existence as if she were a mirage or trick of the eye.

Who I am… I'm a protector. A fighter. I save everyone I can. I don't kill unless there is absolutely no other choice.

Jonas took a deep breath.

I'm a vampire. And I am a still a good person.

I'm not a monster.

"Jonas?" Kisuke asked, his voice pulling the silver-haired teen from his inner world.

Jonas blinked, his eyes refocusing on the place around him before he remarked, "What is so special about a Blood Tie? Why should I try to make it stronger?"

Kisuke took another sip of tea, thankfully not commenting on the teen's lack of focus on their conversation. "Wouldn't it be beneficial in a fight to be able to communicate telepathically with someone else?"

"I suppose so," Jonas replied, contemplating what the blonde was suggesting. He didn't have Mental Magic ability, nor did he think he would develop that ever in his life. So, what was he getting at?

"Besides, it would be best to get accustomed to the bond now. This way, any strong feelings or sensations you could perceive from Neil or Shila wouldn't distract you. In a middle of a fight, such distraction could be deadly." The silver-haired teen had never considered using the bond as a form of telepathy, despite sensing bits and pieces of what Neil and Shila were feeling.

Hmm, maybe Kisuke has a bit of the strategist in him after all.

"Okay, how I do it?"

*End Flashback*

.

The entire process was referred to as 'tending to a wavelength'. And was required for good mental health. Kisuke warned him, and his Blood Memories reinforced this fact—that ignoring the connection and not doing anything to stabilize it would only lead to headaches and eventually, confusion.

It required meditation and the focused desire to reach out to someone mentally through blood. While he and Shila were quick to conform to basic meditation techniques, Neil was proving to be the difficult party. Neil's impatience for just about anything was causing problems with the process. With a sigh, Jonas stood and left the room, leaving Neil to finish laughing.

At least they were making some progress. He could feel Neil's 'amusement' almost like it was his own. And if he hadn't been able to separate what Neil was feeling from what he himself was feeling, then he may have believed the enjoyment to have been his own. But as it was, he had to admit that he shared the dual wielder's perception.

That scream had been really funny.

.

*Ichigo Kurosaki*

-Just moments prior-

.

His chest still felt cold and in pain, like there was an icy grip squeezing his heart with sharp, frozen daggers. But the rest of him felt warm. Warmer than it had felt before he passed out. For a moment, he was afraid that he was dying. But now. Now it's warm. Too warm. Something wasn't quite right. Furrowing his brow, he slowly forced his eyes open.

And screamed.

"A quick response! Very good!" Tessai responded far, far too close for comfort. The bigger man was lying right on top of him, using his body heat to warm the previously unconscious teen. But now, it was a bit too close of a position for him to be okay with.

"What are you doing under the covers with me? Get off!" Ichigo demanded. He was struggled in vain to remove the man invading his personal space when Tessai turned his head to the sight.

He shouted, "Boss! You wanted me to let you know when Ichigo was awake. Well, he's awake!" The tall man finished thundering his voice throughout the house and retreated from Ichigo, who sat up quickly in response.

His fast motion made him twinge in searing agony, and he grabbed his left shoulder with a pain moan as the reality of his situation suddenly dawned on him. I'm not…dead. Why not? He looked around. The architecture looked familiar. But he certainly wasn't at home. Wait…is this Hat and Clog's place? His ability to feel spiritual pressure still sucked, so he was stuck waiting for someone else to enter to confirm his suspicions. Luckily, he didn't have to wait long.

A door slid open to his room, revealing Kisuke's presence. And the faint sound of someone laughing off in another room.

"You need to just relax. We were barely able to patch you up." As the blonde entered, Tessai assumed a hasty kneeling position in the corner. "If you move around too much, you'll die." He held his fan in front of his face, hiding a grin behind it. That scream had been worth the wait.

"Is that right?" Glancing around, Ichigo inquired, "So, is this the same place we were at before?" He was nearly certain of it but felt asking was better than assuming in this case.

"Yup!" Kisuke shut the fan, waiting for the teenager to lead the conversation.

"Did you…save me?" Ichigo asked with a frown, not sure what to think about it. He failed. Again. Was protected. Again. And now she was gone. Gone off to the Soul Society to die. What good was he alive if he couldn't even live up to his namesake? He was a failure of massive proportions. It wouldn't be fair to anyone else to force them to put up with him anymore.

"Hmm," the blonde hummed, "It seems to me, from the underlying tone of your voice, that maybe you didn't want me to save you." Kisuke eyed him critically, his striped bucket hat obscuring gray eyes in shadow.

Ichigo didn't have the heart to look at him. He just couldn't get the thought of Rukia turning her back on him and walking away out of his head. She was gone. Like she never even existed. A sudden thought popped into his head though, as his memories strayed back toward a certain archer that had helped him out.

He looked up at the shopkeeper. "Hey, Uryu was there too, helping me out. What happened to him? Is he here?"

"He went home. His wound bled a lot, but it wasn't severe. Even if he had laid there for several days, I don't believe he would have died. So, after I cleaned and dressed his wounds, he went home. When he left, he was worried about you."

"Uryu was worried about me? No way." Ichigo shook his head. The archer being concerned about him was in no way related to whether or not he would be okay. Survive to pummel later, possibly, but there was no way the quincy was concerned about his health to be nice.

"I asked him to rest here for a while, but he declined. He said that the only person who was strong enough to save Rukia, was you."

Ichigo gave a snort of derision. "Me, huh? Heh. What am I supposed to do?" All he could do was remember her walking away, into the light and away from him. "Rukia went back to the Soul Society! How am I supposed to get there? Just how am I supposed to save her?!" His voice became higher and more desperate as he ran circles in his mind. He could see no possible way to do it. She was gone. To another world. And there was no way there for him.

He sighed, letting defeat weigh him down. "It can't be done. I can't do it!"

"There's a way into the Soul Society."

Ichigo jerked his head up in surprise, as if a bright light had been shined in his face. Ignoring the stabbing sensation in his chest, he stumbled to his feet, getting right into Hat and Clog's face. "What? How! How can I get there? Tell me!" Where there is a will, there is a way. And if there was a way to save Rukia, then he was going to take it. No matter the cost. He had to save her. She saved him and his family. Made the rain in his mind go away. He couldn't just abandon her.

"Of course, I'll tell you. Under one condition." Ichigo gave him a questioning look. "For the next ten days, you must study with me and learn how to fight properly."

Ichigo looked incredulous. "Study? You want me to waste time training with you?" He grabbed the front of Kisuke's robes. "There's no time for that! Rukia is gone and she could be executed any minute! So, we have to get to the Soul Society right now!" He couldn't wait around for over a week before trying to save her. Why couldn't he understand?

"You don't understand." Kisuke easily knocked Ichigo down to the floor, pinning the orange-haired teen with the end of his cane and a serious glare. "What I'm trying to tell you is…they'll kill you. Could you win? If you fought them again as you are now? I allowed you to fight them this time…because I thought it would make it easier for you to understand."

Ichigo stared at him, wide-eyed. The cane hovering above his head seemed to give off a sensation of the point of a sword hovering over him. He gulped and his chest twinged, radiating another burst of cold in response to his growing anxiety and desperation.

"At your level of ability, you wouldn't be able to do much once you got there. You're weak. And whenever a weak person attempts to enter the lion's den, it's basically suicide. You want to save Rukia? Don't make me laugh." Kisuke bent over him. "Don't use her as an excuse to kill yourself."

A black cat pawed over and sat in the middle of the doorway, eyeing their exchange with curiously intelligent eyes. Following it, was Jonas, who leaned up against the doorframe to investigate.

"The Soul Society usually observes a one month waiting period before an execution. Let's hope that it's the same here. So, that leaves me with ten days to torture you," Ichigo glared at the blonde, "seven days to open the gate to the soul society, and thirteen days once you're there to get the job done. So, there's plenty of time!"

That glimmer of hope was all he needed.

"Can I get strong enough…in just ten days?" Could he really do it? In such a short amount of time?

"Yes, if you truly wish to save Rukia from the bottom of your heart. Your will must be stronger than steel. You must abandon any doubts that you have. Ten days, to prepare for a game of life and death."

Ichigo gave Kisuke a determined stare. "Well, if I don't do this…there's nobody else who can, right? Alright! Let's do it!"

Kisuke grinned.

When he thought of Rukia again, the image around her shimmered with hope. I feel as though the rain has finally stopped.

.

*Jonas Mazeri*

Neil's 'amusement' had subsided and drifted dangerously into 'boredom'. When the silver-haired teen returned to their room, he was confused by the state of the place. Shila was nowhere to be seen. A giant melting ice wall divided the room and burnt wood was near the entrance. Neil was in a corner, tossing a fireball between his hands.

"What…the hell happened here?"

Neil dropped the fireball, the embers dying as he released the energy in his grasp. He glared at Jonas before he remade it. After a moment of Jonas staring at the dual wielder, the brown-haired teen shrugged. "I got bored."

"I can see that," Jonas deadpanned. After a brief moment, he could sense Shila on the other side of the ice wall. He glanced at it, then back to Neil before he asked, "What'd I miss?"

"Apparently, I was annoying her."

A few wooden clunks announced Kisuke's presence behind them. With a sigh, the blonde remarked, "If you insist on being destructive, I'll have to send you downstairs."

"Tch, whatever." Neil left the room, 'boredom' and 'restlessness' drifting about him.

Shortly after, Shila released her ice magic, willing it all to melt and left the room. Jonas felt her 'annoyance and frustration' slip through his tenuous connection to her.

When it was just the two of them, Kisuke remarked, "I sent Ichigo to school today. When it's over, he will be back to start his training."

"You think we should all go with him to this Soul Society place?"

The blonde sighed. "I know you don't know Rukia, but I have a feeling that it won't be a quick thing to return you home. In the meantime, gaining more power won't hurt anything, and will give you all a chance to acclimate to the different ways your powers respond here."

Jonas hummed to himself. It was a good idea. And maybe…maybe he would find Sheila there.

"Alright. I'll convince the others to train as well."

.

*Ichigo Kurosaki*

Kisuke gave him pills to heal him faster. And he had to admit, they worked pretty amazing. The only thing that hadn't gone away was the deep chill in his chest. But the pain there had faded with the medicine, so he wondered if it was even something he needed to worry about.

Numbly, he continued on through his last school day before vacation, seeing how no one remembered Rukia. Her memory and very existence had been erased. Is this what it means to return to the Soul Society? Her chair was empty. No one was sitting there. Not a single person acknowledged that a person used to sit there. Everyone had forgotten about her. It was almost unbearable.

The day passed by in a blur, and he found himself confronted by Orihime. "Ichigo, where's Rukia? Why did everybody suddenly forget her? I need you to explain what is happening," the fellow orange-haired student demanded. Her determination and need to find out what was wrong wasn't the only thing that had shocked him about their encounter.

After a brief discussion, he learned that she had been able to see him as a soul reaper ever since he saved her brother's soul. And she encouraged him to save Rukia.

"Thank you, Orihime."

You really were here, Rukia. And you deserve to be here.

.

*Rukia Kuchiki*

This was exactly what she deserved. She ruined Ichigo's life. Put him in terrible danger and then left him to die. She deserved to die. It was a fitting punishment. She found she didn't have the voice to object to the declaration. And it was all she could do to not verbally agree with Central 46's decision regarding her case. While she wasn't about to leap for joy, she could find solace in the fact that she would stop dooming all those around her that she cared for.

After momentarily pressing all of her old friend's buttons in a vain attempt to distract herself from her depression, she asked, "Renji? Am I really…going to die?"

"Of course, you are! You're going to be executed any day!"

Despite the tone of his voice indicating another one of his inappropriate jokes, she found the words striking close to home. "I see. I understand." And she really did understand. She wasn't being facetious or witty about her comeback. She was perfectly resigned to her fate. She was a criminal. One that had committed unspeakable crimes. It was a fitting punishment.

She could practically hear him blanch. "C'mon I'm only kidding. It was just a joke. Captain Kuchiki is probably on his way pleading for clemency as we speak."

"Well, I doubt that."

"How could you say such a thing? Somebody like Kuchiki would never sit by while his own sister faces the death sentence!" He sounded horrified by her casual rebuff and responded in kind, like he was trying to reassure her as much as himself.

"You're quite right about that. He would want to kill me himself."

Renji gasped in horror. And at the moment, she couldn't bring herself to console him. He had let her go after all, so many years ago. Now, she was a Kuchiki. Royalty. And she couldn't be seen comforting a commoner, no matter how much she desired to. He had been her best friend, after all. "I know very well… the kind of man he is. In the forty years since the Kuchiki family took me in… never once has he…even looked at me."

Terminology

My Universe:

Beasts:

Dark Severiin: think of a Deviljho from Monster Hunter when you think of this thing. Physically, it is a bit different, but I am using a lot of comparisons to describe characters and things. This is the thing I am vaguely describing at the beginning of the chapter that Jonas and his friends were fighting. The characters from my story are being pulled from their timeline during the Dark Severiin fight in Arc 1 of Chronicles of Seraphia (the book series I am working on).

.

.

Magic (General):

Magic Core: the core of an individual's magical ability. No Magic Core means that the person cannot wield Magic AT ALL.

.

Magic Class: One of ten major classifications of various magics.

.

Magic Subclass: one of several magics that make up a magic class.

.

Primary Wavelength: there are many different levels of magical communication. The space in an individual's mind directly below the Weapon Wavelength is this layer where communication through Blood Imprints, Dragon Imprints and Plant Summons exist.

.

Weapon Wavelength: the layer in a person's mind near the top of their consciousness where a Magic Weapon of some sort communicates with their wielder. This is the level Engeta Zanu, Tasha Rein, and the other Weapons communicate on.

.

Tending to a Wavelength: a mental process where an individual concentrates and focuses their efforts on increasing the bond between two sides of a connection (such as a Blood Imprint or Blood Tie), making the connection more stable. Needs to be done periodically to keep imprints etc. smooth. If not done, can lead to a lot of mental hardships. Must be done when adding to the existing connections or making new ones on the same wavelength to prevent signals from getting tangled. (think of it like untangling a ball of yarn and keeping it separated while continuously moving the string around and adding to it).

.

.

Magic (Weapons):

Magic Weapon: a magical Weapon bound to an individual from birth. Magic Weapons are created from Weapon Spirits that choose a child as it is born and meld with the newborn's spirit to become their Magic Weapon later in life. Weapon Spirits are reincarnated whenever they choose a new wielder (after they are separated from their current one). Typically wielded only by living people in either the Light World or the Dark World. Used to send spirits on to the realms.

.

Weapon Magic Wielder: Weapon Magic Wielders are able to manipulate the Magic Essence in their bodies to summon powerful Weapons and communicate with the Weapon Essences to gain new powers and abilities. If one can only use Weapon Magic, then they are also referred to as Guardians (this term can also be used for someone that uses a Spirit Weapon or Hell Weapon if the Weapon is the only magical ability they have).

.

.

Weapon Spirit/Weapon Essence: the personality and appearance of a Magic or Spirit Weapon within and beyond the wielder's inner world. Each one has a unique appearance and powers. They choose to bind to an individual's spirit (typically at birth) and help to shape their wielder's development. In the end, it is hard (sometimes) to distinguish the two from each other (what is the natural state of the wielder and what part of the wielder's personality and traits were influenced by the Weapon kind of question).

.

Tasha Rein: Jonas's Magic Weapon.

Humanoid Form: 5'5". Long black and silver hair and black eyes. She wore a black, form-fitting kimono with dark blue accents along the outer edges and dark blue cloth on the inside. Dark blue threads held it all together. While the body of the kimono was form-fitting, the arms and legs had plenty of room and were quite baggy.

Lore: Means 'Ultimate Darkness/The Black Dragon'

.

Engeta Zanu: Neil Agamon's Magic Weapon.

Humanoid Form: looks like Neil except he is all white. Wears a dark orange kimono with a crimson inner liner and dark red stitches. Wears a pair of baggy red pants that flare at his feet with matching crimson socks slipped into a basic flat black sandal. There is a red flame design etched into the bottom of the robe's top half.

Lore: Engeta Zanu also means Twin Flickering Flames. The idea that a flame reflects the spirit of a person (hence why he is Neil's duplicate), with different colors indicating different moods and the color white representing the complete balance of all that power (since it is said that white is the conglomeration of all color whereas black is the absence of color). Engeta Zanu is a pair of dual long swords.

.

Kisi Ri: Magic Weapon belonging to The Matriarch and, by extension, the feral vampires under her control.

Lore: functions by inserting vampire magical abilities into a person's Magic Core, thus transforming them into a vampire. High success rate.

.

Juka Reyno: Shila Mezere's Magic Weapon.

Humanoid Form: 5'4". Long white hair tossed behind her head in gentle curls flowing to the center of her back. Stunned bright blue eyes. Wears a floor-length white and blue dress that shimmered as she walked, now streaked with lines of red and black.

.

.

Weapon Release (Weapon State): Similar in nature to a Shikai or Bankai release. However, there are 10 Mortal Tier Releases (as opposed to the 2 levels that Soul Reapers can use).

.

Kogomosa/Shikai: The 1st Weapon Release in the Mortal Tier of Weapon Releases. Equivalent to Shikai state, with fighters on average becoming twice as strong as their initial summon state. X2 Initial Summon.

.

.

Magic Weapon Classes: Magic Weapons have classes which determine how exactly they are used, along with describing total size of the Weapons etc. Basically, a dual longsword class is different than a dual short sword class and indicates the length of the blades. There are also dual classes which will be explained later.

Weapons are Melee (up close), Ranged (far away), Defensive (which falls under the melee class), or Dual Form (two different types of weapons that are part of one weapon. Think of the weapons from Bloodborne and how almost every single one had 2 forms.)

.

Sword Lengths- Daggers are between 5 to 10 inches long. Short swords are between 10 and 18 inches long. Long swords are between 18 and 30 inches long. Greatswords are between 30 and 48 inches long. Ultra greatswords are between 48 and 72 inches long.

Curved swords mean that the flat side of the blade (the part that is not sharp) is curved, along with the bladed edge. Regular swords are straight here, regardless of whether the blade itself arcs into a curve. (for a comparison, Zangetsu would be considered an Ultra Greatsword class.)

Weapon Summon Spell: each Magic Weapon has a specific phrase or word that allows their wielder to bring them into the world (summon their weapon). This is similar to the phrase used by a soul reaper to awaken their zanpakuto to Shikai.

Initial Summon: The basic summon and first form of a Magic Weapon. Each Initial Summon has an activation spell (summoning spell) to summon the Weapon into existence.

.

Kisi Ri summon spell: Turn Them

.

Engeta Zanu summon spell: Burn

.

Tasha Rein summon spell: Descend

.

Juka Reyno summon spell: Pierce

.

.

Weapon Dispel Spell: each Magic Weapon has a specific phrase or word that allows their wielder to disperse the magic essence forming their weapon, allowing it to disappear (dispel their weapon). Currently, there is no known way for a soul reaper to do something like this, since their zanpakuto is a physical creation and not summoned out of reishi.

.

Tasha Rein dispel spell: Disappear

.

.

Magic (Incantations):

Magic (Spellcaster):

Magic (Spiritual):

Magic (Elemental Spirit):

.

.

Vampire Specific:

Vampire: A subspecies of humanoid. Draws magical power by draining the magic from a target's bloodstream. Very good users of ranged magics. Known for their usage of Blood Magic. Predominately female-led society.

.

Blood Imprint: a type of magical connection through blood. Made between a vampire and someone else. On the Primary Wavelength.

.

The Change: the process of transforming into a vampire.

.

Primary Bloodline: Bloodlines named after and descended directly from the vampire offspring of those that wielded the 10 Dragon Champion Weapons in ancient times. They are well known for their mastery of their particular Magic Class.

.

Secondary Bloodline: Bloodlines named after the specific matings of the Primary Bloodlines. Known for their ability to wield two Magic Classes related to their names.

.

Tertiary Bloodline (trash bloodline): unstable bloodlines. Too numerous and diverse to be able to name them all. Not known for anything special. Fall to feral status easier because of their magical instability.

.

Forced Submission (vampire): This is something that can ONLY be done by a Primary or Secondary Bloodline on a vampire going through The Change that is in their feral state. Primaries can ONLY be force submitted by other Primaries. Secondaries can be force submitted by either primaries or secondaries. While Tertiaries can be force submitted by any primary or secondary but are unable to force submit anyone except other tertiaries. (this is due to the strength of the bloodlines involved.) When a Primary or a Secondary force submit a Tertiary, they are essentially birthing their target into their bloodline.

.

Blood Tie: a magical connection between two vampires where one force submitted another. This loosely connects all that are directly connected with the two involved in the Blood Tie (includes any imprints on both sides. For example, Jonas force submitted Neil. Neil is Blood Imprinted with Shila. Therefore, through the Blood Tie, Jonas is connected to Shila.)

.

Blood Memories (genetic memories): Primary Bloodlines and Secondary Bloodlines pass on genetic memories and abilities through their blood, gifting subsequent generations with the same skills and memories of days long past. (this is possible even though magical ability isn't technically passed on this way.)

.

Rein/Mazeri Vampires: Descended from Miseanu Meizerai/Rein. They are masters of the Dark Magic Class and specialize in stealth, summoning, and raising the dead to fight again (necromancy). Jonas's particular bloodline is spawned from Bequaki Mazeri, who was once known as Bequaki Rein, but she changed her name and began the Mazeri bloodline when she disagreed with the other primary vampire bloodlines and their decision to attack the werewolves.

.

.

Lore:

When a vampire first begins The Change, they have a brief period where they 'go feral' (i.e. go insane, lose themselves to bloodlust and instincts, etc.). Most vampires turn back toward the light shortly after their body full changes, but not all. There is a higher chance of someone with a tertiary/trash bloodline of staying feral than someone belonging to a primary or secondary bloodline.

.

In the canon storyline, the Matriarch, while powerful, is simply a strong Mental Magic user from a tertiary bloodline. In fact, her Weapon, Kisi Ri, should work far better than it does in controlling her victims, but it doesn't because of her lineage. Because my characters are now in the Bleach universe with no ready means of returning home, they are cut off from the majority of her mental influence. Therefore, Jonas was able to defeat the portion of her power struggling for dominance easily whereas Neil (and by extension, Shila) had to struggle and required Jonas's aid.

Humanoid Characters:

Jonas Mazeri: main character in Chronicles of Seraphia. short, spiky silver hair. Dark blue eyes. 5'7". Skinny and toned. 16 years old. Wields Tasha Rein.

.

Neil Agamon- 5'7". Short and straight brown hair. Brown eyes. He appears average build with clothes on but is physically fit. 16 years old. Wields Engeta Zanu.

Neil's Flames: so, there are different colors for different emotions/states of being, with colors having multiple meanings. He is a character that tends to speak without a 'filter' and got the nickname Firebrand for being such a pain in the ass. But despite how he behaves normally, he doesn't always intend to come across as rude/insulting as he does. He just doesn't convey what he means very well.

.

Shila Mezere- 5'4". Long silver hair that reaches between her shoulder blades. Light blue eyes. Thin. 16 years old. Wields Juka Reyno. Uses Ice Subclass Magic.

.

Casey Urdoni- 5'4". Long black hair. Dark blue eyes so dark they are almost black. Impassive face. 15 years old. Wields ?

.

Kienan Urdoni- 5'8". Short black hair. Black eyes. 16 years old. Wields ?

.

Michael Koto- 5'7". Brown eyes. Short light blonde hair. 16 years old. Wields ?

.

Sheila Emetere- ?

.

Sirta Mazeri- 5'5". Long silver hair. Dark blue eyes. Jonas's mother. (deceased).

.

Miseanu Meizerai/Rein: looks just like Sirta Mazeri (except maybe a little more muscular. Long silver hair. Dark blue eyes.

.

Maku and Sima Mazeri: They are fraternal twins. Maku is a boy. Sima is a girl. They are younger than Jonas by a few years and were there with Jonas when their parents died before their eyes. They are not present in this timeline.

Extra Notes/General Seraphia Worldbuilding:

Jonas Mazeri's appearance: So, I never fully describe exactly what his face (or anyone else's face really) in my universe looks like. I give the basic hair and eye color, heights, and builds but I leave the faces open to the imagination (unless there is a specific scar I wish to address). So, I thought, how cool would it be if Jonas looked like Ichigo? (guess you can figure out which character I like the most, eh?)

.

Light World/Dark World: two different worlds that exist as copies of each other. This is where all life lives before it dies. (think of them like the World of the Living in Bleach.)

.

Realms: There are actually 12 realms where spirits live after life. 10 of them exist where their specific magics are prominent (and each of these 10 have a light side and a dark side to them). Then, there is Hell (realm of Sinners). Finally, there is the Otherlands (which is the realm of ALL Weapon Spirits).

.

Betweenlands: The dimension that keeps all the realms and the worlds connected. (kind of like the Dangai).

.

In my universe, all things give off essence ribbons. Everything has a small amount of magic essence which then strongly or weakly gives off an aura of power. So, Jonas has the ability to see these ribbons (all ribbons) and since there aren't that many Essence Ribbons in this universe (because the only ones currently belong to him and his friends), it is far easier for him to search for his missing friend this way.

.

In my universe, before the kids got sent to the Bleach universe, both Neil and Jonas were attacked by vampires under someone's control named The Matriarch. The Matriarch is a person with the Magic Weapon, Kisi Ri, and she can use it to transform people into vampires. Those that she initiates the change with, can use her Weapon to varying degrees.

.

Primary School: the equivalent of High School in my universe.

.

Trade School: the equivalent of college for people without magical powers.

.

Magic School: the equivalent of college for people with magical powers. The graduates enter the Magic Squads (similarly to how those that go to the Soul Reaper Academy join the 13 Court Guard Squads when they leave the school).

Bleach Universe:

Magic:

Kido: The over-arching classification of spells used by soul reapers. Divided into Bakudo, Hado, or Kaido.

.

Bakudo Spells: Way of Binding. Spells used to restrain or restrict movement or spells.

.

Bakudo #1 Sai: a weak binding kido spell that forces the target's hands behind their back.

.

Bakudo #61: Rikujokoro: Six-Rod Light Restraint.

.

Inemuri: Forced Slumber spell. User holds their hand in front of their victim's face, the victim's pupils dilate several times before they pass out.

.

Hakufuku: White Concealment: a spell that causes the target to see the illusion of purple cherry blossoms falling around them, sometimes also along with the smell of sweet flowers. Then their vision blurs and their mind becomes disoriented and confused before they fall unconscious. Target has an unclear memory once they awaken.

.

Tanma Otoshi: Time-Out Drop. The kido spell that Shinji used to knock Ichigo unconscious before his struggle with his inner hollow with the visoreds.

.

.

Hado Spells: Way of Destruction. Spells used to inflict damage.

.

Kaido: Healing Spiritual Arts. The spells and abilities used by soul reapers to heal injuries.

.

Quincy Specific:

Quincy: A human that can manipulate spirit particles in the air to form a bow and arrow. When they kill hollows, they destroy their souls.

.

Soul Reaper Specific:

Gigai: an artificial body

.

Mod Soul: An artificial soul designed for combat. Project Spearhead.

.

Gikon: Substitute Souls.

.

Gikongan: Substitute Soul Pills. Contain Gikon or Mod Souls.

.

Shihakusho: Garment of Dead Souls. The uniform that all soul reapers in the 13 Court Guard Squads are required to wear.

.

Soul Reaper (Death God/Shinigami): A dead spirit that guides lost souls to the afterlife via Konso.

.

Zanpakuto (Soul Cutter): a weapon born from a soul reaper's soul. The fragment of their soul that is forged for battle.

.

Shikai: the first true release of a zanpakuto. Considered the second form of a zanpakuto since all normal soul reapers wield sealed swords.

.

Release Shikai: To release a zanpakuto to Shikai in the bleach universe, each of them has a unique call phrase that causes the sword to transform into its shikai release.

.

Seal Zanpakuto: Soul Reapers can seal their zanpakuto after releasing it and finishing their battle. Those wielding Magic Weapons can do the same thing.

.

Bankai: the second and final release of a zanpakuto. Considered the third form of a zanpakuto since all normal soul reapers wield sealed swords. The achievement of Bankai can increase a fighter's power by 5 to 10 times and oftentimes takes up to 10 years to master its usage.

.

Konso: Soul Burial. Allows a Whole to pass onto the Soul Society.

.

Gotei 13 (13 Court Guard Squads): the military force that keeps the balance of souls. Divided into 13 squads that oversee the Soul Society and the World of the Living.

.

Captain (taichō): the leader of a squad.

.

Lieutenant(vice-captain, fukutaichō): the second in command/adjutant in each squad.

.

Head Captain (captain commander, sōtaichō): The leader of all the Gotei 13.

.

Secret Remote Squad (onmitsukidō): the stealth force.

.

.

Hollow Specific:

Hollow: A spirit being that ate out its own heart in its suffering and one that continues searching for spirit energy and souls to relieve its never-ending hunger and desire to fulfill the emptiness of its existence.

(You all should read 'On the precipice of defeat' by MissFlesh. Holy crap! I loved the unique perspective of a Hollow that this writer gives. So many fanfictions skip over the gruesome aspects of existing as a hollow and portray it like some sort of glamorous existence that downplays how horrible being a hollow really is (they romanticize it, not that I am saying the other stories are bad by any stretch. They aren't, but they don't fully immerse you in the terrible state of being a hollow like this fanfiction does) and this author got into the nitty-gritty of life as a hollow and truly captured how bad life as one is. Truly a magnificent read and gives a whole new perspective of life as a monster.) It isn't completed and I don't think it ever will be, but there is plenty of story here to sink your teeth into that it fully captures the hopelessness of that life.

.

Menos Grande: A classification of the three most-powerful forms that hollows can take. Gillian is the lowest. Adjuchas is the middle. Vasto Lorde is the highest.

.

Gillian: that monster hollow that Ichigo and Uryu fought at the beginning. The lowest of the class of Menos Grande hollows.

.

Hybrid (Visored/Arrancar) Specific:

.

Characters:

Ichigo Kurosaki: Main character for Bleach. Wields the zanpakuto, Zangetsu.

.

Uryu Ishida: He is a Quincy. Calls himself the Last Quincy.

.

Rukia Kuchiki: The Soul Reaper that gave Ichigo his soul reaper powers.

.

Tessai Tsukabishi: an employee of Urahara Shop and a childhood friend of Kisuke and Yoruichi. He is also the former Kido Commander in the Gotei 13.

.

Mahana Natsui: one of Ichigo's classmates in school. She asked if Rukia had a crush on Ichigo.

.

Renji Abarai: lieutenant of squad 6

Zabimaru: Renji's zanpakuto

Roar: The release phrase for Zabimaru's shikai.

.

Byakuya Kuchiki: captain of squad 6. Adopted Rukia into Kuchiki clan.

.

.

Extra Notes/General Bleach Worldbuilding:

Hueco Mundo: The world of the Hollows.

.

Soul Society: the place where spirits pass onto (heaven).

.

World of the Living: Earth. Where humans live out their lives and die.

Urahara Shop: the candy store belonging to Kisuke Urahara. Based in the World of the Living. Home to Kisuke, Tessai, Jinta, and Ururu.

*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x

Close Similarities/Similar Skills:

Magic Weapon/Zanpakuto/Spirit Weapon: Magic Weapons and Spiritual Magic Weapons are similar to zanpakuto in that they are Weapons unique to an individual. However, their origins are different.

X2 Initial Summon.

.

Essence Ribbon/Spirit Ribbon: In Bleach, Spirit Ribbons turn red if a person is a soul reaper, otherwise they are white. This is how Uryu said that he figured out about Ichigo and Rukia. They are visible rays of spirit energy.

In my universe, Essence Ribbons change color and pattern based on the magical abilities the person has demonstrated to be capable of using. They can also have auras. They are visible rays of magic energy and get their name from magic's base term: Magic Essence.

In this fanfiction, one can detect how someone is feeling (emotionally or physically) by touching their ribbon. This is a more advanced technique than simply feeling someone's pressure/aura.

.

Divine Sight/Seeing Spirit Ribbons: In Bleach, Rukia states that the ability to see Spirit Ribbons (rays of spirit energy) is something that only high-ranking soul reapers can use.

Divine Sight is the special ability to see Essence Ribbons.

.

Essence Aura/Spiritual Pressure (Reiatsu): In Bleach, Spiritual Pressure is the pressure that a person's spiritual power (Reiryoku) exerts (described like reiryoku output).

Essence Aura is the pressure that a person's magical power exerts. It gets its name from magic's base term: Magic Essence.

In this fanfiction, one can detect how someone is feeling (emotionally or physically) by feeling their aura. This is typically a beginner technique, but the more advanced sensing requirements put it more in the intermediate category.

.

Energy/Spiritual Power (Reiryoku): In Bleach, a person's spiritual power/spiritual energy is referred to as Reiryoku. It is their personal wellspring of power that is all their own. Each person has a certain amount and a limit they cannot surpass.

In my universe, this is referred to as Energy. In my universe, Energy can be divided into 2 categories: Magic Energy and Spirit Energy (with Spirit Energy being a mere subset of Magic Energy).

In this fanfiction, when one's spiritual power/energy is exhausted, the person collapses from lack of remaining energy.

.

Magic Essence/Reishi (spiritual matter): In Bleach, reishi is what makes up objects in Soul Society and Hueco Mundo. The concentrations there are higher because they are the two spirit worlds of Bleach although some does exist in the World of the Living.

Magic Essence: the basis of ALL magical happenings in my universe. My entire world is formed from Magic Essence (which broken down is called Essence Elements, which we won't touch on until much later). Therefore, nearly all magic skills have some part of their name coming from one of these two words.

.

Essence Elements/Atoms (Kishi): Kishi is like the World of the Living version of Reishi and makes up nearly all objects in the World of the Living and is a term to describe atoms as a whole.

Essence Elements are my universe's version of protons, neutrons, and electrons. The term as a whole can be used interchangeably with magic essence while referring to a single element cannot. They are further broken down into Sub-Elemental Essences (which are basically subatomic).

.

Inner World/Mindscape/Realm of the Zanpakuto: this definition is basically identical between universes. Regardless of what phrase one wants to use, they all mean the same thing. Inner World. Inner Mind. Mindscape. Landscape of the Mind. Realm of the Weapon Spirit. Realm of the Zanpakuto. Literally all refers to the place in a wielder's mind where the Weapon resides and where they go to commune directly with the Weapon that is a part of them.

.

Magic Weapon Auto-Dispel/Zanpakuto Auto-Seal: Just like how zanpakutos revert back to their sealed state when their wielder is knocked unconscious, a similar thing happens when a Magic Weapon Wielder is knocked unconscious (their Weapon dispels).

.

Yretro Kosuka- is Kisuke Urahara.

.

Shini (Light Spirits)/Plus (Whole): spirits of those that have died. Equivalent to a Plus (whole) soul in Bleach universe.

Final Notes:

I want to thank Andygoesrawr from Reddit for the amazing breakdown of the differences between the terms Reishi, Reiryoku, and Reiatsu that he posted nearly 8 years ago on the Reddit page: The Difference between Reishi, Reiryoku and Reiatsu. He also covered the concept of Kishi. I found this page and read it to make sure I wasn't messing up the distinction between the three too badly (turns out that I really was and, in my confusion over the terms when I was laying the foundation for the magic in my world, I ended up doing the same thing as this here was. Go figure).

.

Also, I am editing how I am doing the terminology, etc. and how it will all be organized. Hopefully, it is better than previously. I am also planning on including all the definitions etc. at the end of the chapters (as opposed to stating which chapter I defined them at the beginning of the chapter and pushing off the start of the story each time).

.

I know I stated that Kisuke is Yretro from my universe. So, based on the above information, one would be correct in believing that he should have an Essence Ribbon. However, the reason why this is not true is because he was essentially reborn in the Bleach universe. Therefore, he follows their natural laws not mine.

.

And the people in my world do not use glasses. This is why Jonas has no clue what they are.

.

I am also aware that I am repeating the terms, etc. at the end of the chapters, but I felt it would be easier on the reader than if they had to search a different chapter each time they wanted a refresher.

.

I have to say that I love the Bleach Wiki. Here's a shout of thanks to everyone that made that website into the brilliant resource that it is. I would never remember all the specific spells otherwise.

.

Jonas is a Mazeri/Rein vampire by birth which is a Primary Bloodline. Neil was transformed by The Matriarch's power, and she came from a tertiary bloodline. So, when Jonas forced Engeta Zanu to submit, he was birthing Neil into the Mazeri bloodline. Basically, Neil is a Mazeri vampire now with all the bloodline skills etc. that come along with that with the exception of the Blood Memories which he does not have. Blood Memories can only be passed on from ancestor to direct descendant, not through a forced submission.

Jonas force submitting Neil's vampiric side is also why Jonas can feel what Neil is feeling. And he can sense Shila through Neil because Neil and Shila are imprinted. (normally, Neil biting Shila for that short period of time would not have caused an imprint. However, because she broke the barrier between them in her inner world and went to him in his, she cemented their connection.) This connection between the three is ONLY because Jonas force submitted Neil's vampire side. (this connection works similarly to an imprint in that they can sense each other's feelings. However, power sharing is NOT included in this.)

Engeta Zanu made the comment that he was 'back now' to Jonas when Jonas force submitted him. This is because of how the transformation took effect on Neil. Because Neil was not born from, nor ever descended from a vampire, he was not meant to become a vampire. The Matriarch's power had infiltrated his spirit and tried taking over Engeta Zanu (which she could because he had no natural bloodline to resist her). Once Jonas forced his bloodline onto Neil, it caused the hold on Engeta Zanu to disappear, allowing the Weapon's regular personality to reemerge.

The fact that Jonas is a Mazeri vampire is the entire reason why the transformation went differently for him than it did for Neil. This is why it took the shape of his mother and acted more like an outside force attacking rather than a possession.

.

Okay, so I am being kinda lazy (ish). I was watching the anime (English dubbed) version of Bleach to get the dialogue right for the canon stuff when I decided that it is too much of a pain to watch each section of episode half a dozen times (since I can't type nearly as fast as they talk). Therefore, the dialogue will now be a mixture between the anime and the manga, along with a few word changes because I preferred something phrased a different way.

.

Several of the canon events will remain the same in the upcoming arc while several things will be drastically different. I plan on following the current timeline (including flashbacks as necessary) to help keep my place as I work in my other characters and their character-building arcs.

.

I vaguely mention a parallel between Ichigo's bloodline and Jonas's for being possibly why the two look the same as each other here. This information plays a part in why the two will get to be OP later :D

.

Ichigo isn't confused about where he is because they all were here once already in this timeline.

.

Hope you enjoyed! Please review and let me know what you all think! Thanks for reading!
