Roman and Seth looked at Lavender as she studied herself in the mirror. She was going on a date. When they heard her say that word, they didn't know whether to laugh or cry. She wasn't supposed to go on a date with a human, but there she was wearing a knee-long, flowy, black dress with silver rhinestones in a sporadic pattern on the top and down the sleeves. She looked great.
"This is ridiculous!" Seth growled.
"Do I look bad?" Lavender asked.
"No, you look stunning, sweetheart. What Seth meant is that you're not supposed to date," Roman said.
"A human?" Lavender asked.
"Ever," Roman said. "Your fate was sealed from the moment you were created."
"Created," Lavender rinkled her nose. "I hate that word. I'm a person, Roman. I have thoughts and feelings although the two of you try your hardest to convince me otherwise."
She let out a sound of annoyance and gave up on putting her hair up. No one had ever taught her how to do that type of thing. It had never been needed before. Drew knew how she looked. He wouldn't mind her looking like she always did.
"He just wants to fuck you, and you know you can't let him," Seth said.
"It's just a date!" Lavender yelled.
The two men looked surprised at her yelling. She had never raised her voice at them before.
"It's just a date," she repeated more calmly. "I just wanna try it once. Is that so bad? Just once. That's all I ask for."
"It's okay, sweetheart," Roman said.
"No, it's fucking not!" Seth hissed.
"Seth, trust her. Nothing's gonna happen," Roman said. "Besides, we're gonna be there to keep watch over her like always. We'll follow behind Drew and get our own table."
"Please, don't," Lavender said.
"You know the rules," Seth smirked. "Where you go, we go."
The door bell rang. Lavender turned around and walked out to let Drew inside. Roman and Seth followed and stood behind her.
"Wow, you look amazing," Drew said.
Drew moved his eyes from her and over to the two men behind her.
"Oh, you're here too?" Drew asked.
"Of course," Seth smirked.
"Are you all siblings since you always go together?" Drew asked.
Lavender looked down ashamed for a moment. Of course Drew had caught on to Roman and Seth always being with her despite her always asking them to find a table to sit at. They did everything they could to not hide it.
"Siblings!" Seth snorted. "I don't know what type of sibling relationship you people got in Scotland, but around here..."
"They're my roommates," Lavender cut off Seth. "They're also a gay couple."
"Lavender!" Roman gasped.
"Why the fuck would you say that?" Seth asked.
"Come on, you guys," Lavender turned and smirked at them. "He'll know eventually if he keeps coming back here. You don't have to be ashamed of who you are. It's okay. Drew doesn't judge."
"I would never. Love is love," Drew said.
"See," Lavender said.
"But..." Seth started.
"Go to the bedroom," Lavender said firmly.
Without arguing Roman and Seth turned around and walked to the bedroom. Lavender looked at Drew and tried not giving away that she was confused.
"Just a second," she said.
"I'll wait here," he said.
Lavender walked to the bedroom where Seth and Roman stood side by side on the floor and looked at her.
"Sweetheart, you need us there," Roman said.
"No, I don't," Lavender said. "Stay here until I get back."
Lavender disappeared. Roman and Seth heard the front door close, and the apartment fell silent.
"Fuck!" Seth yelled.
"Angel dust!" Roman said loudly.
"Really? You can't use one swear word this time?" Seth asked annoyed.
"I'm not allowed to," Roman said.
"Your side fucking sucks," Seth said.
Roman sighed and walked over to the window to look outside. He saw Lavender get into Drew's car and drive away.
"Do you think she knows?" Roman asked.
"No, we'll play it up as going along with her date fantasy," Seth said. "You know, if she doesn't come back, we're stuck in here forever."
"She'll come back," Roman said.
"You're placing a lot of hope in a runaway hybrid," Seth said. "Move! I gotta take a piss."
"Out of the window?" Roman asked.
"Where else am I supposed to do it? We're stuck in this room, and I gotta take a piss. Do you want me to piss on the floor?" Seth asked.
Roman sighed again and moved away from the window. Seth opened the window and relieved himself through it.
"I wonder why they choose you so much," Roman said.
"It's the dick," Seth grinned over his shoulder. "I can make any whore scream her little heart out."
"I worry about them when they choose you," Roman said.
Seth pulled his zipper back up and turned around to look at Roman.
"What you need to worry about is that Drew guy," Seth said. "We need to stop this when she gets home. Before she falls in love with him."
"You know as well as I that she's already in love with him," Roman said.
"But she doesn't know that. She doesn't understand those feelings, and it's our job to not explain them to her. This can never happen," Seth said.
"Finally something we agree on," Roman said. "But right now we can't do anything but wait."
They waited for four hours before Lavender finally came home. They could hear the happy sigh she let out as she got out of her shoes. She walked to the bedroom, and there was a look on her face they hadn't seen before.
"I figured it out," Lavender said.
"Figured what out?" Roman said.
"You have to follow my commands," Lavender said. "When I ask, you don't care, but you have to do as I command."
"Fuck!" Seth said loudly.
"Angel dust," Roman said.
"It sucks, huh?" Lavender chuckled. "You can leave the room again, by the way."
Lavender turned around but hands grabbed her and pulled her back. Roman and Seth had grabbed an arm each and placed her between them.
"You have to choose," Roman said.
"Why?" Lavender asked.
"You know why," Roman said. "Be one with me and get angel wings."
"Or be my whore and get devil horns," Seth said.
"What if I wanna be human?" Lavender asked.
Both men gasped loudly.
"You can't," Seth said. "You just fucking can't. That's not how it works."
"So I don't get a choice with what I want?" Lavender asked.
"You got a choice," Roman said.
"Between the two of you. I don't want any of you," Lavender said.
"Tough shit, hybrid thing, because you have to pick one," Seth said.
"Hybrid thing?" Lavender said. "What happened to all your promises of a good dick and fulfilling my darkest fantasies?"
"He didn't mean it like that," Roman said.
"Fuck both of you!" Lavender snarled.
Lavender tore herself free from their grips and walked out of the bedroom. She turned around in the open door and looked at them.
"What happens if I sleep with a human?" Lavender asked.
"Billions will die," Roman said.
"Billions what?" Lavender asked.
"Angels, demons and humans," Roman said.
"You'll be at fault for destroying all three sides," Seth said. "You better think about that before you take your next step. We allowed you to act out tonight and try this stupid date thing. Now fall in line and make your choice before you destroy three worlds."
Lavender took a deep breath as she took in those words.
"But some will survive, right?" Lavender asked.
"Some," Roman said.
"Shut up!" Seth growled.
"I can't lie," Roman said.
"Then don't fucking speak," Seth said. "What does it matter if half of us survive? Think about the many people you will have killed."
"It's not fair," Lavender started crying. "It's not fucking fair. I never asked for this."
"None of them did," Seth said. "But this is what you were created for."
