Fracturing Skies: Chapter 8. Draft 2
Chapter Eight
-Start of Training-
.
Welcome back to Chapter 8 of Fracturing Skies! Sorry for the delay. I'm splitting my attention between my own book and this fanfiction. I will try to get a chapter out once a week (at a minimum) but it may end up being more like once every other week. Like I said before, I have the entire timeline written out, so I have the whole idea basically jotted down, so lack of writing isn't because I don't know where I'm going (at least there's that).
.
Thank you to the one person that has followed the story and favorites it. It really means a lot and I hope you enjoy it!

*Chapter 8: Start of Training*
.
*Jonas Mazeri*
Kisuke wanted him and his friends present when he brought Ichigo down to the training area. Why, he wasn't sure. Either way, the six of them followed the blonde, the orange-haired kid, and the big dude with those things on his face—that he still hadn't figured out the purpose of—down into the vast cavern beneath the store, waiting for the next steps. The silver-haired teen was curious about what was going to happen. As far as he understood it, Ichigo had lost his powers—much like he had lost his nearly eight years ago before he had regained them—so he didn't know what the shopkeeper had in mind by bringing the guy down here.
He wondered if maybe the blonde had a means to jumpstart the orange-haired kid's powers. A way to awaken some wellspring of power deep within him that he was, as of yet, unaware of. And he thought he smelled something different about his twin, a feeling of power swirling around him that no one else could perceive, but maybe that was just his senses playing tricks on him. Jonas was still determining what he himself was detecting, what Neil and Shila were emitting, and what facets of his Blood Memories were coloring his sight. There was a lot to juggle. He just hoped that he had enough time to get a handle on it all before they went to the Soul Society place. He figured that there wouldn't be any time to play around with his abilities once they got there.
It had been remarkably easy to convince the others to train for going to the Soul Society. In fact, Jonas got the sensation—particularly from Neil and Shila if he was understanding properly—that doing something was better than the nothing they had all been up to recently. And everyone had been united in the desire to return home stronger than they had left, the inevitability of joining Magic School lingering over their futures, provided that they could even return home at some point. He shrugged off his doubts regarding that, however, deciding to place his trust in Kisuke to return them to where they ultimately belonged.
There wasn't much of a choice beyond that.
Once downstairs, he couldn't help but to be amazed at the architecture of the place. To think that something this large was beneath the store was mind-boggling. And it didn't appear to have many physical structural supports standing anywhere, causing him to eye it all with a hint of suspicion. Until he concentrated and sensed the unique magic belonging to this world flowing through the walls, ceiling, and floor, reinforcing the subterranean wasteland far better than any physical constructs ever could.
Of course, the size of it could probably be compared to the sewer system beneath Kokosu, but they had only barely scratched the surface of the place before they were flung here, leaving him to speculate on any similarities without a means to confirm or deny any thoughts about it. The biggest difference, besides the fact that the sewer system was broken into smaller rooms, and this seemed to be one big room, was the fake sky plastered to the ceiling above, its presence only slightly unnerving despite its flat appearance.
"Whoa! What is this?! Incredible! This huge, cavernous chamber is right under my store!" Kisuke exclaimed as soon as they were all down the very long ladder and safely settled on the dirt ground.
Jonas resisted the urge to facepalm. Kisuke sounded just so…ridiculous. A far cry from how he had been as Yretro, a master swordsman that took seriously the few training sessions they had ever had together. A man that had not used humor nor strange behavior to lower the guard of those around him, instead demonstrating his supreme skill and commanding respect by how easily he could kick everyone's asses around him with minimal effort.
'Confusion' wafted from his friends' essence auras as they all exchanged glances around him, brows furrowed as if saying is this guy for real? Neil rolled his eyes, grumbling under his breath, general 'annoyance' and 'impatience' traveling across their connection, Shila's feelings mirroring the dual wielder's and amplifying their mood in his mind. Jonas shook his head slightly, trying to dislodge their feelings, or at least trying to separate himself from them. He felt the 'frustration' like it was his own, and the silver-haired teen forced himself to take a few deep breaths and let the sensation go.
All for it to be derailed as Ichigo retorted, "Oh, shut up. It's obvious that you knew this was down here, but I will admit, it's impressive." The orange-haired teen unknowingly echoed everyone else's sentiments as Jonas resisted rubbing his temples in a vain effort to numb the headache he felt starting behind his eyes. It was getting harder to separate himself from what everyone else was feeling, and the effort was giving him a headache.
"Ha ha…believe it or not, but this is your training room!" Kisuke exclaimed. Jonas glanced around the large room again, feeling the power in the magics supporting it. So, that's why he used magic instead of physical supports. Because only magic could resist whatever he had planned down here when wood and stone would not? He frowned as he missed part of what the shopkeeper said before the blonde continued, pointing a finger to the sky, "Look, the ceiling is painted like the sky to lighten the mood!"
"Great, just like a prison," Ichigo remarked dryly. Neil snorted in amusement, the same sensation crossing their connection as the brown-haired teen stifled his laughter. His brightening mood lifted the tension brewing in the silver-haired teen's mind, granting him a reprieve from the headache that had been mounting an assault behind his eyes. Jonas kept a smirk from crossing his own face in response as Kisuke kept going, unperturbed by his audience's responses.
"We even planted trees to make it cheery!"
"They're all dead," Ichigo retorted. And it was true. The few 'trees' that stuck up from the ground were all bare and lifeless, simply sticks that stretched toward the ceiling in a mimicry of life. No leaves or greenery colored them. They were brown and dead, poor decorations at best, and certainly not the bustling organisms that the shopkeeper exaggerated. And they were few and far between, scattered trunks of varying heights dotting the landscape at random intervals.
"It was no mean feat to build this under a city!" Jonas stifled a groan. Just how long is he going to continue before he starts whatever he wanted to begin when he dragged us all down here?
"It's probably illegal, and in direct violation of multiple building ordinances," Ichigo deadpanned, eyebrows twitching in thinly veiled annoyance. Jonas was quite certain he had had a similar expression on his face at some point today, already, which wasn't helped by the blonde yammering about making this place. Neil burst into laughter at Ichigo's response, holding his side and howling, apparently unable to hold in his amusement any longer, Jonas's headache disappearing with the arrival of the dual wielder's joy.
But one steely look from Kisuke made Neil stop laughing, a cold glare from gray eyes shadowed by his hat that made him appear even more menacing despite the previous humor. Jonas felt the brown-haired teen break out in a cold sweat despite the warmth in the training room, 'nervousness' shuddering across their Blood Tie as he hastily stifled his laughing. It was upon the Firebrand's anxiety that Jonas detected faint 'amusement' from Shila's place in their connection, a controlled enjoyment at the situation filtering through the Blood Tie before she buried it.
Ichigo had eyed them with a blank expression, waiting for Kisuke to once again turn his attention toward him. Scratching the inside of his ear, the orange-haired teen finally requested, "Alright, let's start this training, or whatever you want to call it."
"Always be careful what you wish for," Kisuke responded gravely as he lifted his cane, and poked Ichigo in the head.
At that instant, there were two Ichigos. One of them was lying on the ground like it was lifeless, eyes open and unseeing, sprawled out where it landed. The other had been sent tumbling away in a small burst of energy with a chain tying it to the non-moving body. What is this? Jonas frowned and concentrated, feeling faint echoes of magic and essence on the edge of his senses. It felt vaguely similar to when he had first met Ichigo, when the other teen wore those black robes. But now he was powerless. He was certain of it. Why are there two of them, though?
Ichigo started off yelling. The version of him with a chain attached to his chest. "Wh-what was that for?!" Very quickly, however, he knelt down on the ground, like he was exhausted, panting for breath and sweating profusely. The other copy of him remained on the dirt, unmoving.
This is strange. What in the realms is going on?
"It's hard breathing in the form of a soul, isn't it, Ichigo? Right now, the source of your power—your Hakusui—and its booster—the Saketsu—have been destroyed. So, now you're just an ordinary konpaku, a soul, with no spiritual power," the blonde shopkeeper declared all these things like he was talking about the weather, no emotion inflected in his voice. Just cold, hard facts.
"Umm, Master Kosuka, who are you talking to? And why is Ichigo's body lying on the ground?" Casey spoke, confusion evident in her normally impassive voice, the feeling vibrating through her essence aura as well. All eyes turned toward the black-haired archer, her brows pulled together in concentration being the only physical sign that she wasn't following along with the recent events. The fact that she had been the one to speak up spoke volumes to Jonas. Casey was not one to demonstrate emotion or to allow her face to reveal her thoughts and the fact that it was just now meant a lot.
Kisuke gave them all measuring stares, his gray eyes flickering between them. But before he could comment on any assumptions he had made, Jonas retorted, equally confused, "What do you mean? He's right there." The silver-haired teen gestured toward the declared soul form of Ichigo, held to his body by the chain and far enough away from his downed body for nobody to mistake him for gesturing toward the other teen's physical form. Jonas wasn't sure about the significance of the chain just yet; he could only surmise that it connected the soul to the body somehow. It vaguely reminded him of an essence ribbon, even though it was different from those as well. He furrowed his brows.
"Umm, Jonas…there's no one there. Yretro is just talking to thin air right now," Kienan argued slowly, his confusion twisting his face into an uncharacteristic frown. He was nearly always smiling and looking at the positives of life, his mood bright like the sun. But he had a lot of self-esteem issues from him and his sister getting beaten up by bullies in school. Which had turned into a sort of cowardice that he had been unable to fight past for much of his life up until recently. Now, he was struggling to say his piece and stand up for what he was declaring, but it was effort whereas before he had had none. Casey's sibling thus reinforced her confusion and Jonas turned to Yretro for an explanation.
"Hmm. I see," the blonde muttered to himself before he asked louder, "So, are you all as equally unable to see Ichigo's current spirit form as the siblings here?" Gray eyes shifted to Shila, Neil, and Michael; the only ones having been silent this entire time. Jonas watched as those steely eyes sharpened in curiosity, hiding his face behind his fan.
"I know something beyond my senses is here, but not where," Michael supplied in calm, even tones. The blonde teen closed his brown eyes, signaling the end of his contribution to the conversation. Jonas eyed his long-time friend for a short moment before turning his attention to Shila and Neil, acknowledging that the other teen desired to keep some of his secrets for a while longer.
And Jonas found that he couldn't fault Michael for that. He and Neil had just been outed as vampires when they shifted dramatically shortly after arriving here. It was still too soon to tell if anyone would voice objections or concern over two of the group becoming bloodsuckers—despite them not having chosen this eventuality—and so, safety in silence was probably better for the blonde. Although, the silver-haired teen hesitatingly believed that maybe he would be accepted too, since no one had immediately turned them away.
Even discounting the obvious questions about drinking blood—which all vampires had to do at some point, according to his Blood Memories—or else they risked dying of starvation. And no one had yet mentioned the possibility that he and Neil could turn into raving monsters that would eat them in their sleep. Maybe they haven't had time yet to let their worries get ahead of them?
'I think you are worrying too much. These are your friends. Don't friends accept each other without fail?' Tasha Rein murmured in Jonas's mind, pulling him back from his wandering thoughts with a faint brush of calm.
Typically, they do. I guess, I am just worried because vampires always attacked the Hold and killed people all the time. And that maybe, my friends would cast Neil and myself out of the group simply for becoming one of them.
'Remember. They became your friends because of who you are. Not what you are. Continue being yourself and your true friends will stick by you.' Miseanu's voice was gentle and calming in Jonas's mind, patiently reminding him of what she just taught him. The silver-haired teen let go of the knot he didn't realize was twisting inside of him with a soft sigh.
That's right. "What you are, does not define you. It is who you are, that determines if you are good or evil."
Shila's voice cut through Jonas's wayward thoughts, pulling him back to the present. "I see a blur in the direction that Jonas indicated, but can't see anything clearly," the silver-haired archer answered. Her admission caused Jonas to jerk his head in her direction in surprise. But he wasn't sure why that shocked him so much. Because it was her saying something so imprecise or because he had missed the subtle shift of her powers since arriving here, bathing her in a hint of the energy similar to the magic supporting this underground training facility, he wasn't certain.
Neil jerked a thumb in Shila's general direction. "I'm with her." Jonas detected the same abnormalities amongst the dual wielder's essence aura that he had with Shila's and furrowed his brows.
Why them? Why can they see when Michael and the siblings can't? And why can I see Ichigo's soul form clearly?
Kisuke hummed thoughtfully to himself for a moment, gray eyes flickering between them all, before turning back toward Ichigo's soul form, much to everyone's irritation.
"Hey! Are you going to explain, or what?" Neil demanded in typical Neil fashion. His nickname was Firebrand for a reason, the teenager lacking most common courtesies when speaking and instead just going straight for the heart of whatever discussion he was part of, regardless of how he may come across. He was known for picking fights and generally irritating almost everyone he ever met. But for those that got to know the boy under the behavior, they discovered that his behavior was not always due to not caring about how he came across, but instead not knowing the best way to say something and him choosing the path of least resistance when getting his thoughts out, which often landed him—and everyone around him, incidentally—in trouble. It was this brusque mannerism that caused Jonas to cringe as narrowed gray eyes drifted the dual wielder's direction in a silent rebuff before they looked away.
"I will explain my hypothesis later." Jonas could feel Neil's 'irritation' shift through the air, compounded by the same sensation drifting across their Blood Tie and vibrating across his essence ribbon. The silver-haired teen ground his teeth, trying not to let the brown-haired boy's frustration rub off on him, feeling his headache flare back into existence.
Dammit. I have to get him to clamp down on his feelings a little bit. Or else I need to build a wall between him and I.
.
*Ichigo Kurosaki*
Ichigo could barely breathe. Let alone move. Sweat poured down his face, running through his hair and dripping off his chin. He shifted uneasily, his spirit body feeling tight and restrictive as a burst of cold shuddered through his chest that had nothing to do with the feeling of being separated from his body. He struggled to continue existing, the effort to avoid being crushed forcing him to gasp and wheeze in place. He couldn't remember ever feeling so weak. If he didn't count getting his ass kicked by Rukia's brother.
And he almost missed the reveal that half of his audience couldn't even see him. Only one could clearly—Jonas. Could it be because he saved me that night? If that's the case, then why can the other two barely see me but no one else?
"Now, if you want to fight the soul reapers, your spirit energy must be restored. It's the only way." Kisuke's explanation drew his attention back towards his current situation. Not that he really had a choice but to listen. He couldn't exactly move freely, although it felt like his soul form might be loosening up. At least, that super tight feeling was easing up. "To begin, you need to learn to control your konpaku body. Spirit Energy will give you that control. The more of it you have, the better your spirit body will respond. And when you can move it better than your physical body, it will mean that you have recovered your spirit energy."
Ichigo scratched his head. Okay…? Doesn't really explain much. "Sounds complicated," he groused. "So, what am I supposed to do, Pilates?" he glared at the shopkeeper. Why can't he make this simple to understand? Just tell me what I need to do… All this spiritual mumbo jumbo didn't make sense to him. Meditation and opening one's mind sounded like a bunch of hogwash made up by people that couldn't perceive the spirit world. Psychics and 'seers' also irritated him. Charging people money for something they couldn't see was among the lowest of the low to him. The only person that had passed muster was that Don Kanonji guy and that crazy bastard only just passed for two reasons: one, he saved his life, leaping in front of a hollow's attack and freeing him and two, the man had the television show just so he could teach kids about courage.
"Please," Urahara snorted in obvious amusement. "Maybe you'll learn better by doing." He turned his head off toward the side and shouted, "Warrior! Are you ready for battle?"
Ichigo stood up, confused, his spirit body's prior weaknesses forgotten in the face of a little girl carrying a skirt full of gear. She had black pigtails and he recognized her from the day that large hollow attacked. What is she doing?
"Hi. It's a pleasure to train with you," she said, her voice so small and meek that he didn't think he heard her properly.
Is she…training me?
What the hell?
"Huh?" the orange-haired teen inquired, quite certain that he had misheard her. There was no way she was going to train him. She was a little girl!
"Here's your first lesson. You must go up against Ururu one on one," Kisuke remarked, oblivious to his mental protest.
Ichigo spun to face the crazy blonde, loudly exclaiming, "What?!" This is ridiculous! I'm not fighting her!
"The rules are simple. The session ends when one of you can no longer continue the match. I suggest going for the knock-out punch." It was hard to tell if the shopkeeper was being serious or not, that stupid grin adorning his face. He looked like he was having far too much fun for this to be anything but a joke, but something deep in his gut told him that the blonde wasn't kidding around.
Ichigo grabbed Kisuke by the front of his robes, gesturing toward Ururu, outraged. "Are you nuts? You want me to hit a little girl?" Disbelief and vehement protest clouded his face and voice as he put himself right in the blonde's personal space. Urahara maintained his grin despite the orange-haired teen's shocked revulsion, not shifting even while the soul clung to him.
"Well…it's not as easy as you think. Not with that body," the blonde retorted, amusement coloring his voice.
Urahara wasn't understanding him. He couldn't hit a little girl. She reminded him too much of his younger sisters, Yuzu and Karin. She had Karin's hair and eyes and Yuzu's voice, a perfect combination of gentle little girl and unwavering determination. Part of him questioned why Ururu wouldn't object to Kisuke's request for them to fight, but a thud behind him drew his attention back toward her. She had dropped the things she had carried with her skirt.
"Please put on all this protective gear, Ichigo. I wouldn't want to kill you." Then she did a little air punch, adding a soft squeak of effort to the motion.
He snorted. "This is ridiculous. I'm not fighting her."
Then, in an instant, she was upon him, reaching him with such speed that she seemed to flash in front of his face, arm pulled back to strike. His world exploded in dirt and debris.
.
*Neil Agamon*
Neil snorted in amusement as the earth shattered beneath Ururu's strike, barely containing his laughter. It was almost too funny to watch a guy that was roughly their age get his ass handed to him by a little girl. Even if the image was a little blurry to his eyes. Either way, it was a good show, despite being hard to watch, his eyes squinting to see even though it was pointless. Scrunching up his eyes wouldn't make Ichigo's soul form appear any more readily than it was, the blur failing to sharpen no matter what he tried.
Shila gave him a sharp glare with bright blue eyes, the silver-haired archer giving him a pointed look for his obvious amusement. Across their imprint, Neil heard her exasperation as her voice roared in his mind, loud and overbearing. MUST YOU LAUGH? YOU KNOW THAT MASTER KOSUKA WILL MAKE YOU PAY FOR YOUR INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR ONE WAY OR ANOTHER.
Neil grabbed his ears even though there was no real noise to block out as he hissed, Ow, dammit! You don't need to shout. They were still getting used to communicating mentally, a skill Shila insisted that they needed to practice. Well, both Shila and Yretro had recommended it, but if she couldn't learn how to speak mind to mind without screaming, he was going to scald the inside of his own brain.
Sorry, the archer replied sheepishly. She tossed him a half shrug, her expression mirroring the apology pulsing lightly across their imprint before she turned back toward the blur that was Ichigo, obscured by the dust from Ururu's first strike. He still hadn't emerged yet, but Neil felt like his teeth were itching, telling him that even though he couldn't see Jonas's orange-haired twin, that the other boy was still there somewhere.
.
*Shila Mezere*
Shila eyed the dust cloud curiously, detecting a presence on the edge of her senses that she attributed to Ichigo's soul form, although she didn't have much proof of that at the moment until she could fully perceive him. She bit back a sigh and watched, hearing Neil's thoughts as if they were her own. Is he dead? I don't see him.
Ironically, the dual wielder mentally echoed the same statements that Tessai and Jinta were making next to Kisuke as the trio watched Ururu and Ichigo start their spar. She resisted mirroring Sheila and hitting her imprinter on the back of his head for his leaking thoughts, mentally noting how much the imprint between her and Neil had already changed her. Before, she wouldn't have been as impatient to see how Master Kosuka's training would pan out, taking the time to catalog the orange-haired teen's progress somewhere in her mind. But now, she was as eager as Neil was to see what would result in this beating, nearly missing the subtle rise in power at the edge of her senses in the process.
Hmm, maybe this hair-brained scheme of his will actually work…
.
*Ichigo Kurosaki*
He flipped end over end, the explosion of dirt and rocks haphazardly flinging his soul body across the training ground. As soon as he landed, he took off running, straight passed Ururu and towards the safety gear she had dropped just moments before, panic heavy in his chest. I have to get that safety equipment on or else she is going to kill me!
"He's going after her," Tessai commented as he ran towards Ururu.
To which Jinta responded after he darted past her, "Hey, he just ran right past her!"
Grumbling to himself, Ichigo picked up the head gear, "Aw man! What was that? If she hits me like that again, I'm gonna be taking a long dirt nap." Turning his head slightly to the side as he continued running away from Ururu, he shouted, "Hey, Hat and Clogs! How do I put this stuff on?"
"Ichigo! Strap the gear to your forehead, Ichigo! And then shout 'the amazing headband of justice protect me, amazing armor of justice, in place!' go on, say it!"
Before everything Kisuke had instructed him to say passed through his mind, he stopped running and put the gear on his head. Just then, he realized what Urahara was trying to make him say and he threw the headband to the ground, his face red with embarrassment. "Oh, that's just stupid!"
A blur approaching him at high speeds prompted Ichigo to grab the headband and start running, just in time for Ururu to slam into the ground where he was, throwing more rocks and debris everywhere. He shouted in alarm, his voice rising an octave higher than he intended even as Kisuke commented jovially, "This is no time to worry about looking stupid!"
"What, and end up like you?" Ichigo snapped back, continuing his panicked run even as resignation crept up his spine. Dammit, why did he have to make something with such a stupid activation phrase. Reluctantly, he was coming to terms with having to play Urahara's silly games to get his powers back, even if he didn't like it. "Fine." With his face tinged red once more with embarrassment, he shouted, "The amazing headband of justice protect me! Amazing armor of justice, in place!"
Kisuke laughed. He laughed! "Well, what do you know, he actually said it."
Rage burned hot in Ichigo's mind as he grasped the head gear in his hand with frustration. "Hey, shut up!" he shouted, feeling his face heat up with more embarrassment. The orange-haired teen was quite certain that his face was beat red at this point. I am so going to kick his ass for making me say such a stupid thing in front of other people. He stopped running, quickly slipping the headband back onto his forehead and putting the ends of the tubes together, allowing it to fasten to his head. Then he shoved his hands into the gloves before turning to face where Ururu would be advancing from. "Okay! Now I'm ready!" Readying himself into a loose fighting stance, he waited for her to strike.
And narrowly dodged a fatal punch, feeling the power emanating from her strike just moments before he evaded. Aw, screw this! He took off running again, Ururu slamming rhythmically in the ground behind him, coating his back with a thin layer of dirt.
"Nice fleeing," Kisuke remarked from behind that damned fan of his.
"Aw, shove it!" Ichigo shouted in response. "It's a defensive strategy!" And it was. It wasn't like he was scared or something. He was just buying himself time. That's all it was. Amazing armor my ass. More like armor of junk. Running for my life is the only thing that's saving my life. His eyes widened in realization.
Wait a second… If I'm outrunning her, then that means my speed has returned. And if that's true, then maybe I can dodge her punches.
Let's test it.
He stopped and spun around to face Ururu, putting himself in a loose stance. He would only have one chance to get it right. Her eyes widened a fraction in what he thought was surprise before she was right in his face, arm stretching toward him in attack. He moved his head to the side, watching as her strike missed him.
"Whoa," Jinta murmured in awe while both Tessai and Kisuke hummed in satisfaction.
I can do it. Ichigo thought to himself, swinging a fist in response. I won't hit her face. I'll just give her a little tap on her headgear to get her to back off. And I'm so much bigger than her that one tap ought to do it. He alternated fists carefully, trying his hardest not to actually strike the little girl in front of him. He didn't want to hurt her. But one of his strikes got a little too close, grazing her cheek. Oh, damn! I cut her!
Ururu's eyes got progressively wider until her pupils were fully expanded. Almost like she was going to cry, but Ichigo got the distinct sensation that that was not what was about to happen. His eyes widened in response as she leapt onto his outstretched arm and then kicked him in the side of the head, sending him flying into a small mountain in the training area.
Urahara caught Ururu's raised leg with a goofy grin, preventing her from continuing her attack. "Safe!"
Ichigo grunted from against the cave wall, noticing that Tessai had caught him and prevented a serious injury. But he had been the one unable to continue the match, punted into the rock outcropping and probably only alive because the big man took the brunt of the collision. I…lost? Damn. The orange-haired teen struggled to his feet, demanding, "Let me try again! I'll beat her this time!"
"No," Kisuke denied. "It's congratulations time." Ichigo looked at the blonde, stunned. "That's lesson one cleared." The shopkeeper still had his goofy expression on his face from when he stopped Ururu's follow-up attack, a single finger raised in front of him.
"What?!" Ichigo exclaimed. "She kicked my ass just now. I lost!"
"I never said anything about winning." Ichigo stopped protesting, staring at Urahara with another stunned expression. "Ururu here has the combat skills to counter even high-level soul reapers. A mere human soul doesn't stand a chance against her." Kisuke opened the fan with a flick of his wrist and began waving it in front of his face. "Are you still having trouble breathing?"
"What?" Ichigo paused for a moment, taking stock of his soul form. He realized that his breathing had actually gotten considerably better while he had been dodging Ururu's attacks, even though the cold throbbing had yet to decrease. In fact, if he wasn't mistaken, he thought it had gotten worse… No matter, he would deal with that later. Right now, he had to continue with this training. "Hey, now that you mention it, no."
"And moving? Better, isn't it? How long?"
Ichigo frowned as he thought about it. I think this body started moving easier sometime during the fight. In fact, I think it got better almost as soon as I dodged that first strike when I was trying to put that worthless gear on. "A little while," he admitted.
"Of course," Urahara remarked, as if he wasn't surprised. Which, apparently, he wasn't. Otherwise, he should have made more of a fuss. Right? With a subtle inhale, the shopkeeper announced, "The entire point of that lesson was to determine, in a one-shot battle, if you could raise your spirit energy fast enough to dodge Ururu's first punch. You see, spirit energy is increased fastest when a soul is in danger of being destroyed. We just needed to see if you could raise yours fast enough to dodge that fatal punch."
"And if I hadn't?" Ichigo inquired, almost afraid to ask.
"Then you would have died."
"Why didn't you say that in the first place?!" Ichigo growled in frustration. If he had known that his life was truly in danger… Then maybe, I wouldn't have gotten my ass kicked by a little girl. How can he be expected to treat things a certain way if he wasn't told how it would be handled? Wasn't the purpose of training to prepare him for a life and death scenario in the Soul Society? Not threaten his life before he even had a chance to get his powers back…
"I wasn't worried about it," Hat and Clogs revealed, his voice calm yet slightly amused. "Well… so far, so good. Let's celebrate the return of your spirit energy."
And with that statement, Tessai slammed a giant axe down on his chain of fate, severing Ichigo's connection to his body. The orange-haired teen flinched with a dismayed whine as he caught sight of the severed end.
"Now then, onto the next lesson," Kisuke stated.

Terminology
My Universe:
Beasts:
Dark Severiin: think of a Deviljho from Monster Hunter when you think of this thing. Physically, it is a bit different, but I am using a lot of comparisons to describe characters and things. This is the thing I am vaguely describing at the beginning of the chapter that Jonas and his friends were fighting. The characters from my story are being pulled from their timeline during the Dark Severiin fight in Arc 1 of Chronicles of Seraphia (the book series I am working on).
.
.
Magic (General):
Magic Core: the core of an individual's magical ability. No Magic Core means that the person cannot wield Magic AT ALL. All Magic Essence that an individual can manipulate originates from their Magic Core. It is located in the chest just behind the heart along the spine. The Essence Ribbon for a person is tied directly to this place.
It is possible to transfer powers from one person to another through a technique referred to as a Spark Transfer. This can be done to awaken a person's dormant Magic Core, grant a Magic Core to an individual with no Core, or replenish the receiver's magic essence at the expense of the giver (giving energy directly from one person to another so the receiver can continue fighting, for example).
.
Magic Wielder: an individual capable of manipulating the magic essence within and beyond their body to produce magical skills and abilities. Just because a person has a Magic Core does not automatically mean that they can use magic. Some people must have their Magic Core activated in order to use magic.
.
Magic is divided into 6 Divisions: Spellcaster Magic, Weapon Magic, Incantation Magic, Spiritual Magic, Elemental Magic, and Ritual Magic.
.
Spellcaster Magic: Magic that manipulates the magic essence in one's body and surroundings, allowing a Spellcaster Magic Wielder to influence their surroundings and environment on a basic level. It is separated into 4 sub-categories, which are then broken down into the ten major classes and their numerous subclasses.
This type of Magic is also referred to as 'Basic Magic'. Could be compared to the Bending Arts from Avatar in that there are no specific names that are exclaimed when certain attacks are used (although some signature spells have unique names). While all uses of the magics have basic names, many spellcaster spells are not special enough to have a specially designated name and the 'names' given to these basic spells is just so one can differentiate different levels of attack.
Those that can ONLY use Spellcaster Magic are referred to as Wizards.
.
Cosmic Magic: 1 of 4 sub-categories of Spellcaster Magic. Represents Mental Magic, Arcane (space/time) Magic, Blood Magic, and Transmutation Magic.
Only Mental Magic and Arcane Magic are considered Magic Classes. Blood Magic and Transmutation Magic are considered separate types of Magic and are NOT recognized by the Dragon Clans.
.
Godly Magic: 1 of 4 subcategories of Spellcaster Magic. Represents Holy (holy/angel/blessing) Magic and Unholy (unholy/demon/curse) Magics. Both Holy and Unholy are considered Magic Classes.
.
Worldly Magic: 1 of 4 subcategories of Spellcaster Magic. Represents Nature (plant/animal/poison) Magic, Dark (dark/death/summoner) Magic, and Light (light/life/conjurer) Magic. Nature, Dark, and Light Magics are considered Magic Classes.
.
Elemental Magic: 1 of 4 subcategories of Spellcaster Magic. Represents Fire (fire/lightning/chaos/sun) Magic, Water (water/ice/wind/moon) Magic, and Earth (earth/metal/magma) Magic. Fire, Water, and Earth Magics are considered Magic Classes.
.
Incantation Magic: Magic that manipulates the magic essence in one's body to cast powerful spells which are formed and guided by chants and body positioning. While divided into 14 subcategories (7 Mortal Tier and 7 God Tier), they also adhere to the basic class/subclass mentality introduced by Spellcaster Magic, giving their spells magic types.
This type of Magic is also referred to as 'True Magic'. Could be compared to Hado/Bakudo spells from Bleach or even the spellcasting from Charmed. Each spell has a specific name and number, along with a specific chant that allows the user to channel the proper amount of energy into the spell and guide it into the correct form.
Those that can ONLY use Incantation Magic are referred to as Witches.
.
Spiritual Magic: Magic that manipulates the Magic Essence within and around an individual's spirit to cast powerful spells similar to spellcaster magic. These spells are empowered by the strength of one's spirit and are solely used by the dead or those influenced by the dead. There are 5 subcategories of Spiritual Magic: Dark Spirit Magic, Hell Spirit Magic, Hell Spirit Weapon Magic, Light Spirit Magic, and Spirit Weapon Magic (although, really, the Weapon Magics fall under the purview of general Weapon Magic for the most part, even though there are a few differences between them all).
This type of Magic is also referred to as Dead Magic or Magic of the Dead. The basic idea could be compared to the spirit magic in Bleach in spirit (pun intended), but they have no chants or anything like that. It would probably be closer to the hollow skills if one insisted on the comparison.
If one can ONLY use Spiritual Magic (and they are still alive), then they are also referred to as Spirit Guardians. (Infusers also fall into this category if Spirit Magic is all the magic ability they have.)
.
Elemental Magic: Magic that manipulates the Magic Essence within and around an individual's body to make themselves more compatible with a desired Elemental Spirit. These wielders are capable of physically/spiritually binding to an Elemental Spirit, borrowing an Elemental Spirit's power for a set amount of time, or subjugating an Elemental Spirit. There are 3 major ideologies (Druidism, Shamanism, and Subjugation) for Elemental Magic users, and none of them get along.
This type of Magic is also referred to as Ancient Magic because it is the basic premise of returning to magic's roots and working with the elemental spirits governing certain magical abilities.
Druids operate much like the Avatar in which an Elemental Spirit enters the body of a person and lives within them, strengthening their body and allowing their magic to pass through them.
Shamans borrow the power of an Elemental Spirit by gaining favor with an Elemental and getting a portion of that spirit's power.
Warlocks subjugate an Elemental Spirit and force that spirit to do their bidding.
If one can ONLY use Elemental Spirit Magic, then they are referred to as Elemental Spirit Guardians.
.
Ritual Magic: Magic that manipulates the Magic Essence within a person's body and from their surroundings using special rituals and ceremonies to cast powerful spells or create magical artifacts. They use combinations of otherwise powerless objects to craft special spells for numerous purposes. They are known as the group packrat and typically either have lots of control using magic, or next to none. Rarely, are they average in their controlling abilities.
This type of Magic is also referred to as Object Magic because it is based around items and ceremony, oftentimes relying heavily on both to form the magic as opposed to any input from the caster.
If one can ONLY use Ritual Magic, then they are referred to as Mediums.
.
Magic Class: One of ten major classifications of various magics.
Mental, Arcane, Holy, Unholy, Nature, Dark, Light, Fire, Water, and Earth Magics.
Mental Magic is the ONLY recognized Class without a definite subclass.
.
Magic Subclass: one of several magics that make up a magic class.
Space/Time Subclasses are part of Arcane Magic.
Holy/Angel/Blessing Subclasses are part of Holy Magic.
Unholy/Demon/Curse Subclasses are part of Unholy Magic.
Plant/Animal/Poison Subclasses are part of Nature Magic.
Dark/Death/Summoner Subclasses are part of Dark Magic.
Light/Life/Conjurer Subclasses are part of Light Magic.
Fire/Lightning/Chaos/Sun Subclasses are part of Fire Magic.
Water/Ice/Wind/Moon Subclasses are part of Water Magic.
Earth/Metal/Magma Subclasses are part of Earth Magic.
.
Primary Wavelength: there are many different levels of magical communication. The space in an individual's mind directly below the Weapon Wavelength is this layer where communication through Blood Imprints, Dragon Imprints and Plant Summons exist.
.
Weapon Wavelength: the layer in a person's mind near the top of their consciousness where a Magic Weapon of some sort communicates with their wielder. This is the level Engeta Zanu, Tasha Rein, and the other Weapons communicate on.
.
Tending to a Wavelength: a mental process where an individual concentrates and focuses their efforts on increasing the bond between two sides of a connection (such as a Blood Imprint or Blood Tie), making the connection more stable. Needs to be done periodically to keep imprints etc. smooth. If not done, can lead to a lot of mental hardships. Must be done when adding to the existing connections or making new ones on the same wavelength to prevent signals from getting tangled. (think of it like untangling a ball of yarn and keeping it separated while continuously moving the string around and adding to it).
.
.
Magic (Weapons):
Magic Weapon: a magical Weapon bound to an individual from birth. Magic Weapons are created from Weapon Spirits that choose a child as it is born and meld with the newborn's spirit to become their Magic Weapon later in life. Weapon Spirits are reincarnated whenever they choose a new wielder (after they are separated from their current one). Typically wielded only by living people in either the Light World or the Dark World. Used to send spirits on to the realms.
.
Weapon Magic Wielder: Weapon Magic Wielders are able to manipulate the Magic Essence in their bodies to summon powerful Weapons and communicate with the Weapon Essences to gain new powers and abilities.
If one can only use Weapon Magic, then they are also referred to as Guardians (this term can also be used for someone that uses a Spirit Weapon or Hell Weapon if the Weapon is the only magical ability they have).
.
.
Weapon Spirit/Weapon Essence: the personality and appearance of a Magic or Spirit Weapon within and beyond the wielder's inner world. Each one has a unique appearance and powers. They choose to bind to an individual's spirit (typically at birth) and help to shape their wielder's development. In the end, it is hard (sometimes) to distinguish the two from each other (what is the natural state of the wielder and what part of the wielder's personality and traits were influenced by the Weapon kind of question).
.
Tasha Rein: Jonas's Magic Weapon.
Humanoid Form: 5'5". Long black and silver hair and black eyes. She wore a black, form-fitting kimono with dark blue accents along the outer edges and dark blue cloth on the inside. Dark blue threads held it all together. While the body of the kimono was form-fitting, the arms and legs had plenty of room and were quite baggy.
Lore: Means 'Ultimate Darkness/The Black Dragon'
.
Engeta Zanu: Neil Agamon's Magic Weapon.
Humanoid Form: looks like Neil except he is all white. Wears a dark orange kimono with a crimson inner liner and dark red stitches. Wears a pair of baggy red pants that flare at his feet with matching crimson socks slipped into a basic flat black sandal. There is a red flame design etched into the bottom of the robe's top half.
Lore: Engeta Zanu also means Twin Flickering Flames. The idea that a flame reflects the spirit of a person (hence why he is Neil's duplicate), with different colors indicating different moods and the color white representing the complete balance of all that power (since it is said that white is the conglomeration of all color whereas black is the absence of color). Engeta Zanu is a pair of dual long swords.
.
Kisi Ri: Magic Weapon belonging to The Matriarch and, by extension, the feral vampires under her control.
Lore: functions by inserting vampire magical abilities into a person's Magic Core, thus transforming them into a vampire. High success rate.
.
Juka Reyno: Shila Mezere's Magic Weapon.
Humanoid Form: 5'4". Long white hair tossed behind her head in gentle curls flowing to the center of her back. Stunned bright blue eyes. Wears a floor-length white and blue dress that shimmered as she walked, now streaked with lines of red and black.
.
.
Weapon Release (Weapon State): Similar in nature to a Shikai or Bankai release. However, there are 10 Mortal Tier Releases (as opposed to the 2 levels that Soul Reapers can use).
.
Kogomosa/Shikai: The 1st Weapon Release in the Mortal Tier of Weapon Releases. Equivalent to Shikai state, with fighters on average becoming twice as strong as their initial summon state. X2 Initial Summon.
.
.
Magic Weapon Classes: Magic Weapons have classes which determine how exactly they are used, along with describing total size of the Weapons etc. Basically, a dual longsword class is different than a dual short sword class and indicates the length of the blades. There are also dual classes which will be explained later.
Weapons are Melee (up close), Ranged (far away), Defensive (which falls under the melee class), or Dual Form (two different types of weapons that are part of one weapon. Think of the weapons from Bloodborne and how almost every single one had 2 forms.)
.
Sword Lengths- Daggers are between 5 to 10 inches long. Short swords are between 10 and 18 inches long. Long swords are between 18 and 30 inches long. Greatswords are between 30 and 48 inches long. Ultra greatswords are between 48 and 72 inches long.
Curved swords mean that the flat side of the blade (the part that is not sharp) is curved, along with the bladed edge. Regular swords are straight here, regardless of whether the blade itself arcs into a curve. (for a comparison, Zangetsu would be considered an Ultra Greatsword class.)

Weapon Summon Spell: each Magic Weapon has a specific phrase or word that allows their wielder to bring them into the world (summon their weapon). This is similar to the phrase used by a soul reaper to awaken their zanpakuto to Shikai.
Initial Summon: The basic summon and first form of a Magic Weapon. Each Initial Summon has an activation spell (summoning spell) to summon the Weapon into existence.
.
Kisi Ri summon spell: Turn Them
.
Engeta Zanu summon spell: Burn
.
Tasha Rein summon spell: Descend
.
Juka Reyno summon spell: Pierce
.
.
Weapon Dispel Spell: each Magic Weapon has a specific phrase or word that allows their wielder to disperse the magic essence forming their weapon, allowing it to disappear (dispel their weapon). Currently, there is no known way for a soul reaper to do something like this, since their zanpakuto is a physical creation and not summoned out of reishi.
.
Tasha Rein dispel spell: Disappear
.
.
Magic (Incantations):
Magic (Spellcaster):
Magic (Spiritual):
Magic (Elemental Spirit):
Magic (Ritual):
.
.
Vampire Specific:
Vampire: A subspecies of humanoid. Draws magical power by draining the magic from a target's bloodstream. Very good users of ranged magics. Known for their usage of Blood Magic. Predominately female-led society.
.
Blood Imprint: a type of magical connection through blood. Made between a vampire and someone else. On the Primary Wavelength.
.
The Change: the process of transforming into a vampire.
.
Primary Bloodline: Bloodlines named after and descended directly from the vampire offspring of those that wielded the 10 Dragon Champion Weapons in ancient times. They are well known for their mastery of their particular Magic Class.
.
Secondary Bloodline: Bloodlines named after the specific matings of the Primary Bloodlines. Known for their ability to wield two Magic Classes related to their names.
.
Tertiary Bloodline (trash bloodline): unstable bloodlines. Too numerous and diverse to be able to name them all. Not known for anything special. Fall to feral status easier because of their magical instability.
.
Forced Submission (vampire): This is something that can ONLY be done by a Primary or Secondary Bloodline on a vampire going through The Change that is in their feral state. Primaries can ONLY be force submitted by other Primaries. Secondaries can be force submitted by either primaries or secondaries. While Tertiaries can be force submitted by any primary or secondary but are unable to force submit anyone except other tertiaries. (this is due to the strength of the bloodlines involved.) When a Primary or a Secondary force submit a Tertiary, they are essentially birthing their target into their bloodline.
.
Blood Tie: a magical connection between two vampires where one force submitted another. This loosely connects all that are directly connected with the two involved in the Blood Tie (includes any imprints on both sides. For example, Jonas force submitted Neil. Neil is Blood Imprinted with Shila. Therefore, through the Blood Tie, Jonas is connected to Shila.)
.
Blood Memories (genetic memories): Primary Bloodlines and Secondary Bloodlines pass on genetic memories and abilities through their blood, gifting subsequent generations with the same skills and memories of days long past. (this is possible even though magical ability isn't technically passed on this way.)
.
Rein/Mazeri Vampires: Descended from Miseanu Meizerai/Rein. They are masters of the Dark Magic Class and specialize in stealth, summoning, and raising the dead to fight again (necromancy). Jonas's particular bloodline is spawned from Bequaki Mazeri, who was once known as Bequaki Rein, but she changed her name and began the Mazeri bloodline when she disagreed with the other primary vampire bloodlines and their decision to attack the werewolves.
.
.
Lore:
When a vampire first begins The Change, they have a brief period where they 'go feral' (i.e. go insane, lose themselves to bloodlust and instincts, etc.). Most vampires turn back toward the light shortly after their body full changes, but not all. There is a higher chance of someone with a tertiary/trash bloodline of staying feral than someone belonging to a primary or secondary bloodline.
.
In the canon storyline, the Matriarch, while powerful, is simply a strong Mental Magic user from a tertiary bloodline. In fact, her Weapon, Kisi Ri, should work far better than it does in controlling her victims, but it doesn't because of her lineage. Because my characters are now in the Bleach universe with no ready means of returning home, they are cut off from the majority of her mental influence. Therefore, Jonas was able to defeat the portion of her power struggling for dominance easily whereas Neil (and by extension, Shila) had to struggle and required Jonas's aid.

Sinner/Hell Spirit Specific:
Demon Specific:
.
Humanoid Characters:
Jonas Mazeri: main character in Chronicles of Seraphia. short, spiky silver hair. Dark blue eyes. 5'7". Skinny and toned. 16 years old. Wields Tasha Rein.
.
Neil Agamon- 5'7". Short and straight brown hair. Brown eyes. He appears average build with clothes on but is physically fit. 16 years old. Wields Engeta Zanu.
Neil's Flames: so, there are different colors for different emotions/states of being, with colors having multiple meanings. He is a character that tends to speak without a 'filter' and got the nickname Firebrand for being such a pain in the ass. But despite how he behaves normally, he doesn't always intend to come across as rude/insulting as he does. He just doesn't convey what he means very well.
.
Shila Mezere- 5'4". Long silver hair that reaches between her shoulder blades. Light blue eyes. Thin. 16 years old. Wields Juka Reyno. Uses Ice Subclass Magic.
.
Casey Urdoni- 5'4". Long black hair. Dark blue eyes so dark they are almost black. Impassive face. 15 years old. Wields ?
.
Kienan Urdoni- 5'8". Short black hair. Black eyes. 16 years old. Wields ?
.
Michael Koto- 5'7". Brown eyes. Short light blonde hair. 16 years old. Wields ?
.
Sheila Emetere- ?
.
Sirta Mazeri- 5'5". Long silver hair. Dark blue eyes. Jonas's mother. (deceased).
.
Miseanu Meizerai/Rein: looks just like Sirta Mazeri (except maybe a little more muscular. Long silver hair. Dark blue eyes.
.
Maku and Sima Mazeri: They are fraternal twins. Maku is a boy. Sima is a girl. They are younger than Jonas by a few years and were there with Jonas when their parents died before their eyes. They are not present in this timeline.
*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x*x
Extra Notes/General Seraphia Worldbuilding:
Jonas Mazeri's appearance: So, I never fully describe exactly what his face (or anyone else's face really) in my universe looks like. I give the basic hair and eye color, heights, and builds but I leave the faces open to the imagination (unless there is a specific scar I wish to address). So, I thought, how cool would it be if Jonas looked like Ichigo? (guess you can figure out which character I like the most, eh?)
.
Light World/Dark World: two different worlds that exist as copies of each other. This is where all life lives before it dies. (think of them like the World of the Living in Bleach.)
.
Realms: There are actually 12 realms where spirits live after life. 10 of them exist where their specific magics are prominent (and each of these 10 have a light side and a dark side to them). Then, there is Hell (realm of Sinners). Finally, there is the Otherlands (which is the realm of ALL Weapon Spirits).
.
Betweenlands: The dimension that keeps all the realms and the worlds connected. (kind of like the Dangai).
.
In my universe, all things give off essence ribbons. Everything has a small amount of magic essence which then strongly or weakly gives off an aura of power. So, Jonas has the ability to see these ribbons (all ribbons) and since there aren't that many Essence Ribbons in this universe (because the only ones currently belong to him and his friends), it is far easier for him to search for his missing friend this way.
.
In my universe, before the kids got sent to the Bleach universe, both Neil and Jonas were attacked by vampires under someone's control named The Matriarch. The Matriarch is a person with the Magic Weapon, Kisi Ri, and she can use it to transform people into vampires. Those that she initiates the change with, can use her Weapon to varying degrees.
.
Primary School: the equivalent of High School in my universe.
.
Trade School: the equivalent of college for people without magical powers.
.
Magic School: the equivalent of college for people with magical powers. The graduates enter the Magic Squads (similarly to how those that go to the Soul Reaper Academy join the 13 Court Guard Squads when they leave the school).
.
There are 10 Dragon Clans which represent each of the 10 Magic Classes. They do not recognize the existence of Blood Magic or Transmutation Magic, which is why those two are not considered Magic Classes.

Hollow Specific:
Hollow: A spirit being that ate out its own heart in its suffering and one that continues searching for spirit energy and souls to relieve its never-ending hunger and desire to fulfill the emptiness of its existence.
(You all should read 'On the precipice of defeat' by MissFlesh. Holy crap! I loved the unique perspective of a Hollow that this writer gives. So many fanfictions skip over the gruesome aspects of existing as a hollow and portray it like some sort of glamorous existence that downplays how horrible being a hollow really is (they romanticize it, not that I am saying the other stories are bad by any stretch. They aren't, but they don't fully immerse you in the terrible state of being a hollow like this fanfiction does) and this author got into the nitty-gritty of life as a hollow and truly captured how bad life as one is. Truly a magnificent read and gives a whole new perspective of life as a monster.) It isn't completed and I don't think it ever will be, but there is plenty of story here to sink your teeth into that it fully captures the hopelessness of that life.
.
Menos Grande: A classification of the three most-powerful forms that hollows can take. Gillian is the lowest. Adjuchas is the middle. Vasto Lorde is the highest.
.
Gillian: that monster hollow that Ichigo and Uryu fought at the beginning. The lowest of the class of Menos Grande hollows.

Byakuya Kuchiki: captain of squad 6. Adopted Rukia into Kuchiki clan.
.
.
Extra Notes/General Bleach Worldbuilding:

Close Similarities/Similar Skills:
Magic Weapon/Zanpakuto/Spirit Weapon: Magic Weapons and Spiritual Magic Weapons are similar to zanpakuto in that they are Weapons unique to an individual. However, their origins are different.
X2 Initial Summon.
.
Essence Ribbon/Spirit Ribbon: In Bleach, Spirit Ribbons turn red if a person is a soul reaper, otherwise they are white. This is how Uryu said that he figured out about Ichigo and Rukia. They are visible rays of spirit energy.
In my universe, Essence Ribbons change color and pattern based on the magical abilities the person has demonstrated to be capable of using. They can also have auras. They are visible rays of magic energy and get their name from magic's base term: Magic Essence.
In this fanfiction, one can detect how someone is feeling (emotionally or physically) by touching their ribbon. This is a more advanced technique than simply feeling someone's pressure/aura.
.
Divine Sight/Seeing Spirit Ribbons: In Bleach, Rukia states that the ability to see Spirit Ribbons (rays of spirit energy) is something that only high-ranking soul reapers can use.
Divine Sight is the special ability to see Essence Ribbons.
.
Essence Aura/Spiritual Pressure (Reiatsu): In Bleach, Spiritual Pressure is the pressure that a person's spiritual power (Reiryoku) exerts (described like reiryoku output).
Essence Aura is the pressure that a person's magical power exerts. It gets its name from magic's base term: Magic Essence.
In this fanfiction, one can detect how someone is feeling (emotionally or physically) by feeling their aura. This is typically a beginner technique, but the more advanced sensing requirements put it more in the intermediate category.
.
Energy/Spiritual Power (Reiryoku): In Bleach, a person's spiritual power/spiritual energy is referred to as Reiryoku. It is their personal wellspring of power that is all their own. Each person has a certain amount and a limit they cannot surpass.
In my universe, this is referred to as Energy. In my universe, Energy can be divided into 2 categories: Magic Energy and Spirit Energy (with Spirit Energy being a mere subset of Magic Energy).
In this fanfiction, when one's spiritual power/energy is exhausted, the person collapses from lack of remaining energy.
.
Magic Essence/Reishi (spiritual matter): In Bleach, reishi is what makes up objects in Soul Society and Hueco Mundo. The concentrations there are higher because they are the two spirit worlds of Bleach although some does exist in the World of the Living.
Magic Essence: the basis of ALL magical happenings in my universe. My entire world is formed from Magic Essence (which broken down is called Essence Elements, which we won't touch on until much later). Therefore, nearly all magic skills have some part of their name coming from one of these two words.
.
Essence Elements/Atoms (Kishi): Kishi is like the World of the Living version of Reishi and makes up nearly all objects in the World of the Living and is a term to describe atoms as a whole.
Essence Elements are my universe's version of protons, neutrons, and electrons. The term as a whole can be used interchangeably with magic essence while referring to a single element cannot. They are further broken down into Sub-Elemental Essences (which are basically subatomic).
.
Inner World/Mindscape/Realm of the Zanpakuto: this definition is basically identical between universes. Regardless of what phrase one wants to use, they all mean the same thing. Inner World. Inner Mind. Mindscape. Landscape of the Mind. Realm of the Weapon Spirit. Realm of the Zanpakuto. Literally all refers to the place in a wielder's mind where the Weapon resides and where they go to commune directly with the Weapon that is a part of them.
.
Magic Weapon Auto-Dispel/Zanpakuto Auto-Seal: Just like how zanpakutos revert back to their sealed state when their wielder is knocked unconscious, a similar thing happens when a Magic Weapon Wielder is knocked unconscious (their Weapon dispels).
.
Yretro Kosuka- is Kisuke Urahara.
.
Shini (Light Spirits)/Plus (Whole): spirits of those that have died. Equivalent to a Plus (whole) soul in Bleach universe.

Final Notes:
I want to thank Andygoesrawr from Reddit for the amazing breakdown of the differences between the terms Reishi, Reiryoku, and Reiatsu that he posted nearly 8 years ago on the Reddit page: The Difference between Reishi, Reiryoku and Reiatsu. He also covered the concept of Kishi. I found this page and read it to make sure I wasn't messing up the distinction between the three too badly (turns out that I really was and, in my confusion over the terms when I was laying the foundation for the magic in my world, I ended up doing the same thing as this here was. Go figure).
.
Also, I am editing how I am doing the terminology, etc. and how it will all be organized. Hopefully, it is better than previously. I am also planning on including all the definitions etc. at the end of the chapters (as opposed to stating which chapter I defined them at the beginning of the chapter and pushing off the start of the story each time).
.
I know I stated that Kisuke is Yretro from my universe. So, based on the above information, one would be correct in believing that he should have an Essence Ribbon. However, the reason why this is not true is because he was essentially reborn in the Bleach universe. Therefore, he follows their natural laws not mine.
.
And the people in my world do not use glasses. This is why Jonas has no clue what they are.
.
I am also aware that I am repeating the terms, etc. at the end of the chapters, but I felt it would be easier on the reader than if they had to search a different chapter each time they wanted a refresher.
.
I have to say that I love the Bleach Wiki. Here's a shout of thanks to everyone that made that website into the brilliant resource that it is. I would never remember all the specific spells otherwise.
.
Jonas is a Mazeri/Rein vampire by birth which is a Primary Bloodline. Neil was transformed by The Matriarch's power, and she came from a tertiary bloodline. So, when Jonas forced Engeta Zanu to submit, he was birthing Neil into the Mazeri bloodline. Basically, Neil is a Mazeri vampire now with all the bloodline skills etc. that come along with that with the exception of the Blood Memories which he does not have. Blood Memories can only be passed on from ancestor to direct descendant, not through a forced submission.
Jonas force submitting Neil's vampiric side is also why Jonas can feel what Neil is feeling. And he can sense Shila through Neil because Neil and Shila are imprinted. (normally, Neil biting Shila for that short period of time would not have caused an imprint. However, because she broke the barrier between them in her inner world and went to him in his, she cemented their connection.) This connection between the three is ONLY because Jonas force submitted Neil's vampire side. (this connection works similarly to an imprint in that they can sense each other's feelings. However, power sharing is NOT included in this.)
Engeta Zanu made the comment that he was 'back now' to Jonas when Jonas force submitted him. This is because of how the transformation took effect on Neil. Because Neil was not born from, nor ever descended from a vampire, he was not meant to become a vampire. The Matriarch's power had infiltrated his spirit and tried taking over Engeta Zanu (which she could because he had no natural bloodline to resist her). Once Jonas forced his bloodline onto Neil, it caused the hold on Engeta Zanu to disappear, allowing the Weapon's regular personality to reemerge.
The fact that Jonas is a Mazeri vampire is the entire reason why the transformation went differently for him than it did for Neil. This is why it took the shape of his mother and acted more like an outside force attacking rather than a possession.

Okay, so I am being kinda lazy (ish). I was watching the anime (English dubbed) version of Bleach to get the dialogue right for the canon stuff when I decided that it is too much of a pain to watch each section of episode half a dozen times (since I can't type nearly as fast as they talk). Therefore, the dialogue will now be a mixture between the anime and the manga, along with a few word changes because I preferred something phrased a different way.
.
Several of the canon events will remain the same in the upcoming arc while several things will be drastically different. I plan on following the current timeline (including flashbacks as necessary) to help keep my place as I work in my other characters and their character-building arcs.
.
I vaguely mention a parallel between Ichigo's bloodline and Jonas's for being possibly why the two look the same as each other here. This information plays a part in why the two will get to be OP later :D

Hope you enjoyed! Please review and let me know what you all think! Thanks for reading!
