Seth and Roman watched Lavender as she put on her sneakers.
"Where are we going?" Roman asked.
"I'm going to the library," Lavender answered.
"Again?" Seth asked.
"Yes, again, devil thing," Lavender said.
Seth chuckled at that comment. It was meant to be hurtful after he had called her hybrid thing the night before, but she wasn't hurting him at all.
"Have fun today," Lavender said.
"We're coming too," Roman said.
"Stay!" Lavender said firmly. "Stay in this apartment until I get back."
"I wanna slap you so bad for figuring that out. Just so you know, this command power of yours stops the second you choose," Seth said.
"What a way to tell me that if I choose you, you're gonna be an abusive son of a bitch," Lavender said.
"I'll never hurt you," Roman said.
"I don't care right now," Lavender said. "Have fun, boys."
Lavender smirked at the two men and left the apartment. She walked directly to the library. Drew looked surprised when she walked up to him.
"You're alone today?" He asked.
"Yes, I told them to stay at home," she said.
"And they had no problem with that?" He asked.
"Of course not," she answered.
He let out a sigh that he tried to hide. She heard him though.
"What's wrong?" She asked. "Oh no. It was a bad date, wasn't it? I'm sorry. It was my first date. I didn't know what to do."
"No, it was really good," he furrowed his brows. "It was your first date?"
"Oh fuck, I feel so embarrassed," she said.
"Don't be. It kinda fits," he said.
"Fits what?" She asked.
"I wanna show you something," he said.
He picked up an old book he had behind the counter. He walked around the counter and nodded towards a table where they could sit in peace. They sat down and he kept the book closed while looking at her.
"Why don't you ever take your contacts out?" He asked.
"They're not contacts," she said.
"You know humans can't have purple eyes, right?" He asked. "Or silver hair. I thought for a long time that you dyed it but it has this realistic shine to it that no silver dye on the market has. At least not one I could find, and believe me, I've looked."
He gave her a warm smile. She was so beautiful and the sweetest person he had ever met. He had lost his heart to her a long time ago.
"Why do you like me?" He asked.
"I'm like you. A foreigner in this world," she answered.
"Don't you mean this country?" He asked.
"That too," she answered.
He smirked at her and chuckled. He patted the book in front of him.
"I love looking through our old books and learning about things no one seems to know about anymore. I came in early this morning and for some reason decided to pick up this book from the basement. We store our oldest books down there. There's something in it I would like you to see," he said.
He had left a bookmark in the book and opened it on the page. There was an old handpainted picture of an angel and a devil with a woman between them. He pointed at the angel and the devil.
"Who do these two look like?" He asked. "I want you to say it. There's no way you can't see it."
"Roman and Seth," she said.
"You don't even sound surprised," he said. "So I assume you know the story even before reading it. Is it true?"
"100 years," she sighed.
"And it's your turn next," he said. "Why would you even entertain the thought of going on a date with me then? Am I some sort of toy until you make your choice?"
Her eyes widened. She grabbed his hand and squeezed it.
"Don't ever think that," she said. "They were so angry that I went on a date. I'm not supposed to date but I couldn't say no to you. If I could choose you, I would. I don't wanna become an angel or a devil. I wanna be human. I wanna be like you. I wanna be with you."
He leaned in and kissed her. When he broke the kiss, she kept her eyes closed for another second. When she opened them, he was smiling at her.
"Was that your first kiss?" He asked.
"Yes," she whispered.
He tapped his hand on the book again.
"How does this choosing thing works? Has anyone ever chosen a human?" He asked.
"No, it doesn't work that way. They warned me what will happen if I do that," she said.
"What will happen?" He asked.
"Billions will die," she answered. "Angels, devils and humans. I'll destroy three worlds. Some will survive but I don't know who or how many."
He drummed his fingers on the book and let out a sigh.
"I'm not so sure that's a bad idea," he said.
"Didn't you hear me? Billions will die. Humans will die," she said.
"The world is overpopulated. This might be a good thing. This might help the earth heal," he said.
"But," her lip quivered. "You might die. I don't want you to die."
"It's a gamble I'm willing to take if you wanna break this vicious cycle they've done since the dawn of time," he said.
He leaned in for another kiss, broke it, and placed his hands on her cheeks.
"It's your choice, Lavender," he said. "I won't beg or tell you what to do. I will respect whatever you choose."
"I need to go. I need to think. I have to be alone right now," she said.
"Of course," he smiled sadly. "You know where to find me."
