Show: Psych

Character: Skyler Warren

Role: "Volunteer" Intern for the Psych office

Plot: Skyler Warren has been working with the Psych office all summer, and now school as started. With the start of the school year comes the start of a new consulting case with the Santa Barbara Police. Shawn and Gus dive into the world of mobsters and spies and it all leads to a strange connection with a teacher at Skyler's school. Though Skyler is excited to help with a case tied to his school, he comes to understand that the connection Shawn and Gus have may be a little more complicated than previously thought. Not to mention that the duo he volunteers for can be really embarrassing.

Psych: Bad Education

Skyler never expected to see Shawn and Gus wandering the hallways of his school. Seeing the psychic detective pair made him grin, and jog up to where they were standing outside of the front office. The two looked startled as he came up to them, jostling his binder and math textbook in his arms.

"What are you guys doing here?" Skyler asked excitedly.

"Working on a case. What are you doing here?" Gus asked.

Skyler laughed and held up the textbook in his hand. "I go here Gus."

"Didn't I tell you?" Shawn asked Gus, as if it were something that had come up in a previous conversation. "I specifically told you Skyler would be here as our cover."

Skyler rolled his eyes. He knew that Shawn had no idea that he was going to Santa Barbara High School. It was just a fun coincidence that had happened upon them. Skyler wondered then what would have happened if he had not encountered the two before class, and hoped it wouldn't have been anything embarrassing.

"What's the case?" He asked, shaking the thought from his mind.

"We believe a psychic connection is here to a mobster we're following." Shawn said. "A connection with a Mr. Rowan."

Skyler's eyes widened. "Mr. Rowan, the English teacher?" He asked. Shawn and Gus shared a look before nodding. "He's the most popular teacher here, and I have his class!"

"The most popular teacher?" Gus asked, giving Shawn another more puzzled looked. How could a popular teacher be involved with their mobster?

Shawn didn't seem too phased by this. "We're also looking at the janitors. I'm sensing very strong waves of unpleasantness from a few of them."

At that moment a janitor walked by them, giving them a look of distrust. Skyler found it a little odd. The man didn't look like one of the regular janitors. He was tall, and wide, and the gray uniform seemed to barely fit him. Skyler tried to recall what some of the janitors looked like, but couldn't quite remember. His mind drew a blank, and it was instead filled in with the vision of the scowling man who walked slowly down the hall and then turned a corner.

"Yeah, we've all felt that." Skyler muttered once the janitor was gone. "I think he's a new guy." Shawn and Gus nodded in understanding.

The bell rang, snapping Skyler from his thoughts. He was going to be late. "I'll see you guys later." He said to Shawn and Gus, who both said their goodbyes as well.

"When do you have English?" Shawn called after him.

Skyler paused but continued to walk. "Um, second hour!" He called back. He couldn't help but get an uneasy feeling about what his English class was going to look like later.

Skyler was still a little surprised to see Shawn and Gus in his English classroom when he walked in. He had tried all during his first hour class to brace himself for some sort of trick, but he obviously didn't do it enough. Shawn and Gus gave Skyler two small, excited waves as he took his seat in the middle of the room. Skyler nervously waved back and watched his classmates file in. Everyone gave the two men inquisitive looks; Skyler could only hope that nothing too strange would happen.

"Welcome to class everyone!" Mr. Rowan came in from his office and set his things on a podium at the front of the room. Mr. Rowan's room was in the older part of the building, so it had its own small office that led right outside into the teacher parking lot.

Mr. Rowan himself was a tall, skinny man with brown hair and green eyes. He wore rectangle glasses and was always dressed in a nice button up shirt and tie. The ties were always something outrageous. Today, his tie sported corgis in sunglasses. Though he welcomed all the students in his class, Mr. Rowan gave an exasperated look to Shawn and Gus, who sat at a table in the back of the room.

"Ladies and gentlemen, we have two guests with us here today." He motioned to the men in the back and everyone, except for Skyler turned to look at them. "This is Mr. Spencer and Mr. Guster, they are education students at the local college. They are observing us today for one of their classes. What was it, again?" Mr. Rowan squinted at Shawn and Gus.

"Student Classroom Life 101, sir." Shawn said, and Skyler couldn't help but grimace a little.

"Ah, yes." Mr. Rowan said, equally confused. "Anyways, let's move on to our assigned reading from last time."

The class went downhill from there. Shawn and Gus walked around the classroom to watch students, to help them seem like college students doing an observation. The also interrupted Mr. Rowan's lecture to ask random questions or point out obvious things. At one point Shawn passed Skyler a note asking what was for lunch that day. When Skyler refused to answer, Mr. Rowan stopped his lecture and took the paper away. Heat exploded on his face and Skyler refused to look up at Shawn. Near the middle of class, Shawn and Gus were trying to convince one of the girls to get Skyler's number, insisting that he would be a good tutor for her writing. By the time class was coming to an end, Skyler's jaw hurt from clenching it so hard, and his body ached from all the grimaces and twitches he made every time Shawn got a psychic itch. He vowed to get back at the two of them in his own time.

"Mr. Rowan," The class was cleaning up to leave for their lunch period when Shawn raised his hand to ask another pointless question. "Do you read anything about organized crime?"

Every student in class turned to look at Mr. Rowan who seemed confused, and a little suspicious, by the question. "Organized crime? Well, I suppose some of Shakespeare's characters could be considered 'mobsters', but we don't tackle that until the end of the year." He explained.

"What about a family of organized crime? You know, the family job sort of thing." Shawn asked innocently. Skyler watched as Mr. Rowan looked uncomfortable and he cleared his throat.

"No, nothing of that sort of thing." He said quickly. The bell ran and he clapped his hands a little too loudly. "Alright! Lunchtime for some of you! Third hour for the rest. Goodbye!" Every student got up to leave, talking loudly and checking phones. Skyler stayed behind and made his way to Shawn and Gus.

"You. Guys. Were. Embarrassing." He hissed to the two who shared a smile.

"We were trying to help you." Gus said, winking.

Skyler was beginning to regret telling Shawn and Gus his problems with talking to girls that they had had earlier in the day.

"Did you find anything out?" He asked exasperatedly, changing the subject.

"The spirits did talk to me some, during the day." Shawn said mysteriously. "Right now, they're say that there is pizza in the cafeteria." He grinned as he lightly slapped Gus on the shoulder. "Melty Cheese time?"

"You know that's right." Gus said as he and Shawn fist bumped and headed out the door.

"Thanks for letting us observe Mr. Rowan!" Shawn called out. Mr. Rowan gave a halfhearted wave, though he looked pale in the face, and maybe even a little angry. "Are you coming, Skyler?"

"I'll meet you guys in a little bit." Skyler flinched. The last thing he wanted his teacher to know was that he was connected with Shawn and Gus. Especially after the embarrassing episode they had put him through.

"Hey, Mr. Rowan," Skyler said, approaching the podium where his teacher gathered up his papers.

"You should head off to lunch now, Mr. Warren." Mr. Rowan said kindly, giving him a tired smile.

"I just wanted to make sure that you were good, and that those two didn't bother you." Skyler rubbed the back of his head, looking embarrassed. He set his things on a free desk and looked at his teacher.

"Oh no, they were fine!" Mr. Rowan replied. "Mr. Spencer and Mr. Guster are very interesting education students. They have very specific interests." A worried look flashed in Mr. Rowan's eyes and Skyler furrowed his brow. "Do you know them?"

"Um, no not really." Skyler chuckled uneasily through the lie. He couldn't help but see the disbelieving expression on Mr. Rowan's face. For a moment, Skyler wondered if his teacher actually knew that Shawn and Gus were his friends and psychic detectives.

At the moment two people walked into the room. One was a short man in a black shirt and pants, and the other was the tall Janitor that Skyler and seen earlier in the day. Both he and Mr. Rowan looked up as the tall Janitor closed the door behind him. Skyler's heart skipped a beat when he saw the man lock the large bolt.

"Excuse me," Mr. Rowan said angrily. "I'm with a student."

"Sorry, boss," the short man said, chewing on a toothpick. "But we got a problem."

Skyler looked confused as his teacher stepped forward with clenched fists.

"Idiot," He hissed. Skyler blinked at the sudden change in Mr. Rowan. His demeanor had melted from the meek and quiet teacher to someone angry and calculating. Mr. Rowan cocked his head towards Skyler, who was slowing inching his way toward his teacher's office.

Get to the outside door, Skyler thought to himself. The short man looked at him and quickly whipped out a pistol and pointed it at him. He told Skyler to stop moving, and he readily obeyed and put his hands up in the air. His heart hammered in his chest almost painfully.

"What's going on?" Skyler asked, a little too panicky for his liking.

"Boss," The short man said, ignoring Skyler all together. "That psychic is here, and as I was walking in, I saw those detectives drive up too." Mr. Rowan's expression hardened even more.

"Okay then," Mr. Rowan's said. "We'll leave out the side door. Also, don't mess with the kid, Jim, we'll leave him here for the detectives to find."

"But boss, that kid works with the psychic!" The short man, Jim, said.

Mr. Rowan froze. He had turned to Skyler and began to usher him back to a desk when Jim had exclaimed this new fact. He looked at Skyler with wide eyes and the boy gulped. He knew what was happening. The short man, Jim, had been the one Detectives Lassiter and O'Hara had been staking out; Skyler had seen the pictures from the last stakeout. The tall janitor was obviously a suspect too, but nothing surprised him more than Mr. Rowan. Skyler had a sinking suspicion that his teacher really was involved in the case. He didn't know how he was, but things didn't look too good for the teen.

"Is that true Skyler?" Mr. Rowan asked, his face dark.

Skyler couldn't summon his voice this time. He only nodded, and Mr. Rowan hissed angrily.

"How much do you know?"

"About the case?" The man nodded. Skyler looked to the Jim and Tall Janitor and then back at Mr. Rowan. "I-I don't know, just the basics I guess."

"Tell me the truth, Skyler." Mr. Rowan said angrily.

Skyler backed away slightly, hands still in the air, as he tried to think of an answer that wouldn't cause him problems. There wasn't any lie that would save him from trouble, so he hoped that the truth would leave him alone.

"I-I guess I know that there is a series of mob-related crimes happening and that the police are looking for the leaders of the group."

"And the psychic?"

"Shawn and Gus are consultants working with the police. I kind of work for them as their personal assistant."

Mr. Rowan looked away from Skyler, thinking hard about what to do next. It was obvious that Skyler knew the details of the case. And now, after being unceremoniously outed as someone involved with this mob, he had to improvise. After a moment of hesitation, he looked from Skyler to his lackey Jim and sighed.

"If both parties are here then they are on to me. I have to shake them off a little." Mr. Rowan explained. He walked up to Skyler and roughly pushed him towards Jim. "Take the kid, we can use him as leverage."

"Mr. Rowan!" Skyler cried out as he stumbled into Jim. "What are you doing?" The short man grabbed hold of Skyler's right arm and held tightly.

"You should have gone to lunch, Skyler." Mr. Rowan said resignedly. "Believe it or not, this is hard for me too, but you got yourself involved." He motioned for Tall Janitor to come to him. "You have to hit me, make it look like you two stormed in here, beat me up for information, and then took the kid because he was in the room too." The tall man hesitated. "Don't beat me senseless, but do make it look good."

Tall Janitor nodded and punched Mr. Rowan in the face. Skyler yelped a little and watched with wide eyed panic as the man threw another punch that sent him to the ground. Was this happening? Was his favorite teacher the bad guy? The tall man brought his knee to Mr. Rowan's stomach, dropping him to the ground. Skyler snapped out of his daze, crashing his mind into the real world hurriedly.

"Help! Someone help me! Please! Mr. Rowan's room!" Skyler yelled out loudly, hoping that someone could hear him through the closed and locked door.

"Knock it off!" Jim said angrily. He rearranged his hold on Skyler so that his arm was wrapped around his shoulders and below his neck. He then pushed the gun into Skyler's view to remind him he still had a weapon.

"Let's go," Tall Janitor said, leading the way into Mr. Rowan's office, to the door that led outside to the teacher parking lot.

"No funny business now, kid." The short man grabbed Skyler's arm again and began to pull him through Mr. Rowan's office and outside. He made sure to still press the gun into his side for added emphasis.

Tall Janitor jogged ahead of them to grab the vehicle the two had come in. Skyler stumbled after Jim, panicking and looking around for anyone to help. At the far end of the building, someone rounded the corner into the parking lot and Skyler lit up.

"Detective O'Hara!" Skyler called out. The young detective looked around, spotted Skyler and drew her weapon.

"Freeze! Let him go!" She shouted.

Jim cursed and pointed his gun at the detective. Skyler could see that he was aiming to shoot O'Hara, and he panicked.

"Juliet look out!" He cried.

There was a loud a bang as the man fired the gun. Luckily, Juliet heard Skyler and ducked to the ground still aiming her gun. Skyler knew that she couldn't shoot with him still being held onto as a hostage. With a grunt, Skyler tried to yank his arm free from the man's hold, but to no avail, he held on strong. He aimed his gun once more at O'Hara, who was standing up now

"No, you don't!" Skyler said through gritted teeth as he pulled the man to the side, causing him to shoot up into the sky.

There was a screeching of tires and soon a large, black SUV pulled up to where Skyler was with Jim. He fired his gun once more, driving O'hara to the ground. In that moment, the man pulled Skyler to the SUV, opened up the back-passenger door, and pushed him in.

"No! Stop! Juliet!" Skyler yelled, but it was futile. In no time he was in the SUV, followed by Jim, and then the SUV was speeding out of the parking lot.

They drove for what felt like forever, though Skyler could have really exaggerated the time. Once he had been in the SUV, the short man took his arm and twisted it painfully behind his back. Skyler had called out in pain and ducked downward, and the man had pushed Skyler into the back seat. He kept Skyler there, obstructing his view of anything in general.

"You can let up you know!" Skyler muttered; his voice muffled slightly by the seat.

The short man said nothing, nor did the tall janitor. Skyler wondered what happened with Detective O'Hara, and if she had gotten back to Lassiter to get an APB out on the SUV. He hoped that they would find him soon, and see through the lies Mr. Rowan was going to tell them.

The SUV stopped and Skyler was free to sit up and look around. Immediately he rushed to the door to open it, but to his surprise it opened on its own. The tall man reached in and grabbed Skyler's shirt collar and pulled him out of the SUV. He held Skyler up against the car itself, and Skyler struggled.

They were in a sort of alleyway in some dingey part of town. It was a large enough alleyway that another, smaller car was parked beside them. It too was black with darkly tinted windows. The driver side door opened and a man in a somewhat nice suit came out and stood by the tall man in the drab janitor's uniform. Skyler noticed that the man looked eerily like Mr. Rowan.

"Where's Logan?" The new man asked, reaching into his suit coat and pulling out a syringe filled with clear liquid.

"He had to improvise because of this kid; says he works for that psychic detective who helps the SBPD." The Tall man took the syringe and pushed down on the plunger. Liquid squirted out of the needle.

"Really now?" The new man said with a sneer.

"What are you doing? Let go of me!" Skyler struggled as the tall man brought the needle and syringe close to his neck. He tried to jerk his neck and head away from it, but the grip held firm.

"Now, now," The man who looked like Mr. Rowan said. "Relax, this will just pinch a bit." He grinned maliciously as the needle bit into the skin of Skyler's neck.

A warm and then cold sensation seem to flow into Skyler who winced from the sting of the needle. In a moment it was clear that liquid was some sort of sedative. Though he fought to stay awake, soon his world went black.

When Skyler's eyes closed and his body relaxed, the tall man braced his body and then heaved him up a little. He walked to the new man's trunk which popped open. As gently as he wanted to be, the tall man put Skyler in the trunk and slammed the lid closed. He and the new man exchanged nods. The short man had come out of the SUV and followed the new man into the small car. The tall man got back into the SUV, and both vehicles drove away in separate directions.
