Background:

Show: Bones

Character: Cody Daniels

Role: Seely Booth's godson

Plot: The FBI gets word of a prisoner escape, the old time crime boss Melvin Gallagher and his partner, Clark Lightner. Seely Booth is warned due to his run-in with them and their hunt for the hitman Hugh Kennedy, the Ice Pick. This just adds to the latest stress Booth faces as he comes to terms with his godfatherly duties to Cody. Unbeknownst to anyone though, Gallagher and Lightner are closing in on Booth, with another familiar criminal with them.

Note: Last week's upload was not my best. It was a quick write I did when I was extremely obsessed with the Eleceed webtoon (I'm still obsessed, but not that much :D). We're back with Bones, with this story taking some time after "The Sniper and the Serial Killer". And I know that these bad guy character don't intersect in any way, but I love a good crime boss/mobster character. ;)

Bones: The Crime Lord and His Revenge

Seeley Booth had been called into his boss's office, which was never a good way to start off the work week. He sat sullenly, mentally preparing himself for what was about to happen. He racked his brain to try and find something he had done wrong in the last week that would result in a verbal reprimand. Nothing come to mind, and he resigned himself to whatever was to come.

"Melvin Galleghar," The Deputy Director started, looking at Booth curiously. Booth looked mildly confused, but nodded.

"Crime boss," Booth said. "Kidnapped me while I was on a case. Tortured me a bit." Booth shrugged his shoulders, brushing off the memories that came rushing back.

It had been a case started by remains encased in cement. The killer had been the infamous Hugh Kennedy, a hired mercenary in the major crime world. Booth had gone in pursuit of Kennedy, but only ended up knocked out cold and wrapped in a carpet. Everything had been fine until Melvin Gallaghar, a major crime boss, and his henchman had shown up, also looking for Kennedy. From there, it was torture and interrogation, but Booth refused to give up any information. Luckily Temperance Brennan and her father, Max, had come and rescued him.

The Deputy Director nodded, and then slid a file folder across his desk to Booth. "We got unfortunate news this morning that Galleghar and his partner Clark Lightner escaped from their work-release." Booth's heart fell, and chills ran up his spine.

"How in the hell did those gangsters get a work-release?" Was Booth's first question. He reached and grabbed the file folder, rifling through it to see pictures and information sheets.

"Good behavior, obviously an act." The Deputy Director replied.

"Do you think they're going to come after me?" Booth asked, feeling some mock pride in knowing that his boss was worried about him.

The Deputy Director sighed and looked unsure. "We can't tell right now, since there was no build up or clues to them getting out. Could be just a quick escape. Keep your guard up, we'll send extra agents out to try and catch them."

He knew that this was his cue to leave. Seeley stood up and thanked his boss for his concern, and mulled over the news he had received. Melvin Gallagher and his partner Clark Lightner had been small time criminal bosses, maybe like little mob bosses. They didn't have the caliber of mayhem like Jacob Broadsky, who still remained at large despite all of Booth's best efforts. As he walked into his office, Booth decided that he wouldn't let himself be too worried about their escape.

The school bell rang, and Cody Daniels was practically first out the door. Mondays were never good days for him, as it was for most students. Especially today, as there had been a test in his math class that he had inconveniently not studied for. He wondered about three different questions, sure that he had answered them incorrectly. The sound of a car honking brought him out of his thoughts, and he smiled. He rushed to the black SUV and climbed into the front passenger seat.

"Hey Uncle Seeley." He said brightly, buckling up.

"How's it going, Cody?" Seeley Booth smiled at his godson and turned the vehicle into traffic.

"Oh, you know," Cody shrugged. "The usual: math tests, book report essays, and the like."

Cody enjoyed his afternoon chats with his godfather. He had been living with Seeley Booth since his father had passed six months ago. The beginning had been a little rough, but Cody soon fell into a routine with Seeley. One part of that routine included trips to the Jeffersonian Museum, where Booth's partner "Bones" worked. Though it wasn't very often that he did get to go.

"Any homework?" Seeley asked suddenly.

"Yeah,"

"Well, you're going to have to do it at the Jeffersonian today." Seeley said, looking a little flustered. Cody could see that something was bothering him, but couldn't help being a little excited about going to the

"Okay, that's fine with me." Cody said, waiting to see if his guardian would go on about what was bothering him.

Silence fell between them, but Cody didn't mind. He looked out of the window, and watched the scenery pass by him. It took them a little over five minutes to arrive at the Jeffersonian, and when they did, Booth led the way straight to the Forensics Lab.

"Go do your homework in Cam's office." Seeley ordered. Cody sighed and nodded defeatedly. He had hoped for a moment to relax, but his godfather was not having any of that.

"Okay, fine," Cody veered to the left and headed into Cam's office. She wasn't in there, so he settled himself at a free table and began to pull out his math book from his backpack.

Booth made straight for the office of Temperance Brennan: his forensic anthropologist partner. She was sitting at her desk, typing at her computer with some files open before her. Her brow was furrowed intensely, and when Booth saw it, he smirked. She was writing another novel; he could tell by the wrinkles in her forehead. Seeley said nothing as he came into her office and collapsed on the couch.

(Bit of a jump here, mostly because I am working through the part that comes before this. Bones and Booth are discussing the case while picking up Cody from a study session at a local cafe.)

The sound of screeching metal interrupted their conversation. A loud crash followed, and screams emitted into the air. Booth and Brennan froze on the sidewalk. The screeching metal seemed to get louder, and was followed by a loud bang. A little way ahead of them, in the middle of the intersection, they could see smoke rising in the air.

Brennan immediately took off running, desperate to see what had happened, and to help if any was needed. Booth called after her and then cursed as she ignored him. He turned to Cody, who was standing behind him on the sidewalk.

"Stay here," Booth ordered and took a couple of steps. "Don't move!"

"Where would I go?" Cody said loudly.

He figured an accident had happened up in the intersection, and more people gathering at the scene would cause more problems. So, Cody stood next to Booth's SUV, and waited for the FBI agent and his partner to return. A lot of people rushed past him to see what was wrong, and then the sidewalk was empty, save for Cody, and a well-dressed man standing behind him.

The man, Clark Lightner, lunged forward and grabbed Cody by the shoulders. Panic jumpstarted within Cody as he was pulled backwards and then pushed to the side. With a grunt, Cody landed on the floor of a gray van that had been parked behind Booth's SUV on the curb. Another pair of hands roughly grabbed him and pulled him up off the floor. An arm wrapped around Cody's torso, pinning his arms to his side, as the other hand clapped onto his mouth, muffling any sound that came from him. The door to the van slammed shut, and Lightner quickly got into driver's seat.

Cody struggled as hard as he could and tried to call out as the van rumbled away from the curb, made a clumsy U-turn, and sped away in the opposite direction of the crash in the intersection. When they were far enough away, the mystery stranger pushed Cody to the floor of the van, and cackled loudly.

"That was great Clark!" The man's voice had a southern accent.

"It was a great idea, wasn't it, Mr. Gallagher?" Clark said, grinning madly.

"What's happening?" Cody interrupted them, turning so that he sat on the floor looking up at the man who had held him.

He was a heavier-set man with curly blond hair and glasses. He work a collared green shirt with blue jeans. He must have been the one named Gallagher, and the name tickled Cody's mind. He realized that these two were the men his Uncle Seely had been talking about earlier, the mob boss and his assistant that had tortured him years ago. Melvin Gallagher reached down and forced Cody to turn around so that his back was to the mob boss.

"Let me go!" Cody growled and struggled.

He fought against Gallagher, who had to shake him a little as he bound Cody's hands behind his back with duct tape. Then a piece of the tape covered his mouth, and a dark cloth bag was thrust over his head. The darkness and the uncertain, jerky movements of Lightner's driving made Cody nauseous, though there was little he could do as Gallagher pushed him down once more and bound his ankles together.

"How is this kid related to Seeley Booth?" Gallagher asked as he moved up to the passenger seat of the van.

"He's the agent's godson." Lightner replied knowingly. Cody scrunched his eyes closed tightly to try and fight the nausea, and tried to listen to the criminals that had snatched him.

"Godson," Gallagher huffed. "It's too bad we couldn't get his real kid." He sounded actually upset by this, but Cody couldn't help being a little relieved. He could deal with this, if it meant that Parker was a little safer. Even though his foster brother wasn't even in the country, Cody didn't know what lengths the two men would go to achieve their plan of revenge.

The talk drifted from their plan to other mundane things as they drove to Cody could only guess. At the moment he was laying on his stomach on the floor of the van, and when he tried to rearrange to sit up, he would fall over. Eventually he was yelled at to stay still, and Cody managed to flip himself on his back. His hands tingled and went numb, so he switched to his side to let some blood flow back into them. After what seemed like forever, the van stopped, and he heard doors open and slam shut.

The sliding door to the side opened up, and some light made it through the dark bag over Cody's head, though he still couldn't see much. It was just nice to have some kind of light.

"Carry the kid, I'm not undoing that tape." Gallagher ordered, and someone reached, grabbed Cody, and hoisted him over their shoulder. It was a different person than Gallagher and Lightner.

"Over here," Cody grunted as the stranger dopped him onto a chair and the dark bag was pulled away from his head. The bright light made Cody's eyes water, but a few blinks cleared it away and he could finally see.

He was sitting in an old armchair in the middle of some small apartment living room. There was hardly any furniture other than the armchair, and the three men stood before him. There was Gallagher, Lightner, and then… Travis. Cody's sharp intake of breath wasn't missed by any of the men in the room, though Gallagher and Clark mistook it as shock and surprise for them, and not Broadsky's up and coming protégé being in the room.

Travis said nothing, and looked blankly down at Cody like he never knew him. Cody had no idea what he was doing with these two crime boss washouts, but Cody knew that if Travis was here, Broadsky was not far behind.

Riinng! Riinng!

Cody's cell phone rang in his pocket, and he knew that it was Booth calling. It must have been a little jarring to get back to the SUV and not see him standing there like he should have been. He would soon know that Cody did not leave by choice. Gallagher hit Clark lightly, and the assistant leaned down and pulled the phone out of Cody's pocket.

"What's your name again?" Clark asked, before answering. "Oh wait, the tape." He chuckled and then ripped the piece off his mouth.

"Ow! It's Cody." The boy mumbled, moving his mouth around to ease the sting.

"Oh yes," Clark answered the phone and put it to his ear. "Cody's phone."

On the other end of the line, Cody could hear a muffled voice suddenly rise in volume and then fall once more.

"Aw, Agent Booth," Clark smiled. "I believe that this is for you, sir." Clark tapped on the phone and activated the Speaker function. Booth's angry voice suddenly filled the room.

"Where is he you creep?" Booth's snapped over the phone.

"Uncle Seeley!" Cody called out suddenly, straightening up in the chair. Like lighting, Travis moved forward and covered his mouth. He and Cody glared at each other as Cody's voice muffled against his hand.
