Amity was making a dumb decision. It had been a day since she had helped Luz out from the hospital and took her home. She hadn't really heard from her, meaning that clearly, Luz was okay, and didn't need any help. Otherwise she would have reached out. Because she told her she would, should she need anything. Which she didn't need anything, clearly, because she hadn't asked for anything.
And here Amity was knocking on Luz's apartment door anyways.
You've done it this time, Amity. You just had to come see her. You just had to make sure she was ok. Now you're gonna get punched in the teeth and have your dreams shattered, and you would've seen it coming yet you would've still walked right into it.
"Who is it?" Luz called from inside.
"It's, uh...It's Amity," Amity called back, "I wanted to...Check on you."
Silence.
Or your dreams are going to be shattered because why would she want to see you anyways? Stupid, stupid, stupi-
It had taken a second, but Amity's phone buzzed. A text from Luz, and woah. Okay. Turn to the right, take four steps, turn to the right again, face the wall, look until she sees the crack...Follow the end of it up. In the ceiling was a tiny bit of board that seemed just a little out of place. And just like the text said, pushing it aside revealed a spare key.
Amity quickly grabbed the key and covered its hiding place back up, stepping inside Luz's apartment.
She was in Luz's apartment.
Alone. With Luz.
In her apartment.
Amity took a deep breath, shutting the door behind her, and took a look around. The skateboard sat by the door, the colorful and decorated deck and wheels facing out. On the couch was a guitar, and some headphones, a video game controller, some half empty bags of snacks. A bong sat on the coffee table, lighter beside it. The place smelled vaguely like weed, vaguely like cheap frozen pizza. But most of all it smelled like Luz.
Amity took a deep breath in, and began to blush as she felt the tension slip. She hated mess, she hated disorganization, and she hated how shit was just sprawled about with no sense of ever being cleaned ever again. But the smell made her stop and think. About that time with Luz outside her door, just last night. About the smell of summer, cinnamon, pool chlorine, and the smell of outside (and somehow, not pot). About how close they were.
About how much she liked it.
And it all made her feel strangely at home.
"I'm in the bedroom," Luz called again, voice coming from a room off down one of the tiny hallways in the apartment.
Amity walked down the hall and into Luz's bedroom. One of the walls held a pair of guitars on it, looking rather flashy and covered with various stickers from over the years. Another wall held a few pairs of various headphones, and a desk in the corner held utop it a very colorful and rainbow adorned computer. And in the center of it all, a very bored looking Luz, sprawled across her bed with a guitar across her lap.
The girl strummed idly, staring at her ceiling, "'Sup?"
"Just wanted to check on you," Amity said, taking a seat by the desk, "Figured you would've been bored not being able to do much all day. Looks like I was right."
Luz glanced at Amity and showed the tiniest of smiles, "I see...Thanks."
"Don't mention it," Amity said.
She looked around in silence for a little bit, really doing her best to not let the fact that here she was, sitting in Luz's bedroom, talking with her, like they had been friends for years and like Luz hadn't been wringing her brain like a soaked towel for the last week and a half. She was only sort of winning that battle, the blush still managing to creep along her cheeks.
"I didn't know you played guitar," Amity said as Luz began playing a riff.
"I'm full of surprises, Blight," Luz chuckled, her smile flicking to a smirk.
"I thought you were just a basshead," Amity laughed, leaning back in her chair.
Luz snorted, "I am, but I'm allowed to have some good taste in music, too."
Amity laughed and sighed, letting herself relax a bit and slumping in the chair, "Well if that's the case," she mused, resting her head on her hand and flashing Luz a smirk, "Play me something?"
"So you came for me to serenade you?" Luz laughed, watching the blush invade Amity's face, "I can do that! What do you wanna hear?"
Amity shrugged, "You seem to think you know me well, surprise me."
Luz scoffed, leaning back in her bed and playing a pretty catchy riff. Catchy, yes. One that Amity knew? No. Didn't take Luz long to pick up on that, so she switched it up. This time Amity picked up on it instantly, a smile appearing from nowhere on her face.
"Heart Attack by Dum42."
Luz nodded, switching it up again. The lightbulb in Amity's head went off again, "Holiday by Red Night."
Another nod, and another switch up. It took literally one note for Amity to give Luz a half-assed slap on the back of the head, prompting the older girl to snort-laugh at her again. Oh, the powers of a single G note. After Amity had finished her (admittedly not super serious) attack on Luz, she jumped a little as her phone began to ring.
"Really? Carousel?" Luz chuckled, leaning back into her bed.
"Shut up, it's the older version of it!" Amity defended, before her blood came to a halt like water in a pipe. It was her siblings. And of course it was on TimeFace. Before she had the time to think about the situation she was in, debate answering, before inevitably deciding she would be slamming the "hanging up, call me back later!" button, Luz looked over.
"Oh! It's your siblings!"
And she reached over. And hit the answer button.
For Amity.
The bitch.
"Hiiiii Mittens!" Edric sang, Emira struggling to put the phone on some sort of stand, "We miiiiiiiisss you, dear baby sister!"
Amity was already 502 shades of red, doing her best to somehow curl up out of existence while not dropping her phone.
"How's it going, Sis?" Emira asked, stepping back to sit on the couch that Edric was on.
"Did you burn down the apartment yet?" Edric added.
Emria trailed off, "That doesn't look like our apartment..."
"Oh you totally burnt it down didn't you!"
Amity groaned, finally lifting her head from her knees, "No, I didn't burn the place down. And I haven't thrown any parties, or had girls over, or whatever else you think I've done!"
Amity was too focused on wanting to die of embarrassment that she hadn't noticed Luz was in frame. It took her siblings not quipping back instantly to realize something was up.
"...What?" She asked after a moment.
Edric held his hands over his mouth, while Emira was practically ready to jump out and hug Amity through the screen, "Oh, My God, We interrupted you getting serenaded!"
Amity's blood went in reverse. She looked behind her as her face turned even paler than usual, watching as Luz held her hand over her mouth, desperately fighting back laughter and maybe even tears, because oh no. Oh no, oh no, oh dear god and everything that was holy, no.
"They call you Mittens?" Luz managed, fighting through the urge to laugh until she cried, and laugh for a few extra hours more after that.
Amity snapped her head back to her phone, where her siblings were dancing. In celebration.
"Our baby sister is getting lucky!" Emira shouted, pumping her fist.
"What's her name?!" Edric asked, leaning in to get a closer look. Amity desperately tried to cover her camera when the shock had finally subsided, but she was too late.
Edric stammered, his grin somehow stretching beyond his ears, "Is that…Is that…?!"
Emira beamed like an idiot, getting closer to the phone screen, "'Amity delivery girl' Luz?!"
Luz waved and did her best to keep herself from simply laughing until she died, Amity curling up and groaning again, falling through another 500 shades of red. Amity ran through all the possible deities she could think of, asking them for the sweet release of death, because oh my God, she was going to die. Or she really, really wanted to, anyway.
"We're so proud of you, Mittens!" The twins sang in unison, making Amity's desire for death even greater.
"I am NOT getting lucky, she is NOT my girlfriend, you two are assholes!" Amity shouted, quickly turning her phone around so her siblings couldn't embarrass her more.
"Uh huh, Amity, our little sister? Alone with another girl in her apartment?" Edric mused.
Emira added in, "Totally not getting lucky. Definitely not."
"Shut uuuuup!" Amity whined, prompting Luz to put a hand on her shoulder, which, oh god, Luz was touching her, her stomach was doing somersaults.
"Calm down, babe," Luz said, emphasizing that just a bit too much (way too much), "It's okay! They're your siblings after all!"
It didn't matter if Amity couldn't see Ed and Em, or if they couldn't see her. They could hear each other. And while Amity froze up, mind racing and replaying the way Luz had called her babe over and over, she could hear the twins cackling. But for some reason, no particular reason whatsoever, she didn't mind them laughing, because Luz had called her- Amity- babe.
"She's a keeper, Mittens!" Edric sang.
"Is there a reason you guys called," Amity spat, trying to get this all done as quick as possible so she could talk to Luz (and slap the shit out of her because if Luz shared this incident with anyone, so help her god, Amity would murder her), "or was it just to harass me and my g- Friend!"
"Well we were planning on asking how you were doing, checking in on you," Emira said, "you know, as good older siblings do," Amity rolled her eyes, hiding her face in her knees again.
"Buuuut," Edric said, "I think we best leave you and your guh-friend alone!"
Luz added in, because of course she fucking would, "Don't worry, I'll take care of her," she put her face close to Amity's, really close, and oh god Amity felt ready to jump out of her skin, "Right, Mittens?"
Normally, whenever Amity was called Mittens, she gagged on reflex, her body doing its best to reject the name and everything it implied about her- which was a lot. Not to mention how much she had associated the name with her siblings, adding to the knee jerk reaction. But when Luz said it? When Luz said it.
Amity felt the tension slip from her body as the name hit her ears. She felt herself lean back into Luz a little bit, the blush in her cheeks burning everything and making her brain go a bit fuzzy. It made her heart feel warm, it made her tummy feel like she had eaten TV static, and it made her smile.
Amity, who had officially stopped working, could only let out a sort of….Well she didn't know what kind of noise it was, but it was an affirmative one.
"Practice safe sex!" Erdic shouted, as Emira hung up the phone with an overly cheery "Love you" to her baby sister.
The silence was deafening. And it made Amity all too aware of the fact that she was leaned up against Luz. And had been for a while. And that Luz was still touching her.
Luz laughed, gasping for air while giving Amity a small shake, "I didn't know you were gay, Blight."
"I'm gay?!" Amity sorta scream declared and asked, because her brain was not functioning properly because Luz Fucking Noceda called her babe. And Mittens. And had touched her.
"I guess?!" Luz returned, fighting back a snort, "Based on how they talked about you getting lucky with another chick!"
"Maybe I am gay?! What does it mean to you?!" Amity yelped.
"Maybe I am gay?!" Luz shot back, finally taking her hand back as she got a few more of the giggles out of her system. This of course took some of the static in Amity's brain away, but her brain just wouldn't stop racing, and Luz's mocking here really wasn't helping, and- Wait did Luz just say she might be gay?
"You have some cool siblings," She said after a beat, flopping back onto her bed, leaving Amity to catch herself.
"That's all you have to say?" she asked.
"What else is there to talk about?" Luz shot back.
Amity felt that butterfly in her stomach start to knot up, that brain wringing feeling of confusion and anger and painful mixed messages welling up again.
"The fact you called me babe. And...And…"
"Mitte-"
"Yes that!" Amity interrupted, feeling the heat bubble to the surface of her face.
"Your siblings were screwing with you!" Luz said, "I had to join in!"
Amity felt her heart drop a bit.
Luz smirked, setting her guitar aside, "Any opportunity to mess with you is one I'll gladly take."
Amity turned away. She shouldn't feel like she was about to cry. She knew Luz, she knows what she's like, she knows what she does. She's a bully, that's all she's been, that's all she will be. She should know better than to think of Luz Fucking Noceda as someone capable of being nice for the sake of being nice. No, Luz Noceda liked to play with Amity, to drag her emotions around and tangle them up like a pair of earbuds in your back pocket.
So she shouldn't feel like crying.
She shouldn't feel like she was about to cry.
Amity was about to cry.
Luz sighed heavily, eyes drifting back to her ceiling, "I mean," she started, feeling some heat rise in her cheeks, "If you are gay that...That's kind of comforting."
Amity locked up a little, metaphorically breaking her neck to look back at Luz.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean I'm not straight either, dude," she said, averting her eyes, "I'm bi...Ya know?"
"You're bi?"
"I mean...Yeah. Don't have a ton of queer friends," Luz mused, now starting to get too deep into thought to worry about where her eyes wandered, "But I mean….If you're gay then well…"
Amity kept her mouth shut as Luz's eyes eventually traced around her room, making a round about way back to Amity, copper meeting amber. That smile, that wonderful, intoxicating smile crept its way onto Luz's lips.
"Then I have you." Luz half whispered.
Amity swallowed a bit, trying to reset her brain and perhaps hoping that somehow doing so would cool her face down. She was rosy in the cheeks. She pulled her body around after freeing it from her shock, turning to face Luz and pulling her legs together. She couldn't stop the smile that had started.
"So you do consider me a friend?" Amity asked.
Luz nodded, that wonderful smile never leaving her face, "About as much as someone like me can be friends with a Luzer like you."
For once, one of Luz's playful insults hadn't played with Amity's brain. Instead they carried on with playful banter, harassing each other over their newly discovered connection. Rather than Amity sit in silence, or give up and head home to sulk and beg Boscha and Willow and Gus for some form of help, she laughed and talked about all sorts of entertaining nothing with Luz. It was that damn smile.
That smile took away all her thought power, it filled the green haired girl's mind and made everything from the top of her head to the tips of her fingers feel delicate and light. It made her heart flutter and her chest feel warm like a fireplace. It reminded Amity of when Luz had first smiled at her like that, it reminded her of the time they spent in the beach cove.
It reminded Amity of when Luz had hugged her the night before. The smell of Luzs jacket, the way her skin felt, the bit of sweat that had rubbed onto Amity's nose and made it tingle all night long. The way Luz had held her like someone she never wanted to actually have to say goodbye to again.
It reminded Amity Blight of when she fell in love with Luz Noceda.
"You two have been spending an awful lot of time together lately," Boscha mused, watching Amity tuck her phone back into her pocket. A couple of days had passed, and Amity had given up on trying to say she was doing anything other than checking in on Luz lately. Not that her friends seemed to mind too much.
"Well, I mean, that's what friends do, right?" Amity asked.
Willow cocked her head a bit, "So you're friends now?"
"I guess so!" Amity shrugged, a smile naturally creeping onto her face, "I mean, she hasn't bothered me lately and we've been getting along."
Boscha gave a small cheer, patting Amity on the back. Willow smiled and returned to looking at the river along the path they walked together. Gus, however, held his finger to his lips, deep in thought.
"Doesn't that sound a little risky to you?" Gus asked
Amity was visibly confused, "What do you mean?"
"Remember the last time you thought you were buddy-buddy with Luz?" Gus said, and some rather painful memories came rushing back to Amity's love-addled brain. The feeling of hurt, the feeling of rejection she had felt when Luz had played her like that. And she had forgotten it all so quickly.
"But I mean...We've," Amity started, swallowing a painful knot in her throat, "We've been...Bonding a lot, recently...I think."
"Hm, bonding or no bonding, I think you should keep your guard up," Gus mused.
Willow nodded, turning back to look at Amity, "He's got a point. Given Luz's track record, no matter how good things may seem you should probably prepare for the worst."
Amity sighed and nodded, gaze turning to the pavement, "It's just...I don't know, I'm…"
"Seriously, super duper, ultra gay?" Boscha interrupted, prompting a giggle from the group. It helped to keep the mood from getting too doomer.
"No!" Amity laughed, "Ok, yes, but that's not the issue here."
Boscha shrugged, straightening up and taking a sip of her fancy overpriced coffee.
"It's...I've been enjoying spending time with her. Even if it's all a ploy to get my guard down, it's...It's nice spending time with Luz," Amity sighed, grabbing her arm sheepishly, "I think having her as a friend is better than having her as an enemy anyways."
"Amy, hun," Boscha said, voice dripping with that 'oh you sweet poor innocent summer child' tone.
"I know, I know it's...It's difficult, ok?"
Boscha and Willow exchanged a look, Gus simply shrugging his shoulders. Boscha turned back to Amity and wrapped an arm around her shoulders and pulled her in close.
"Promise me if she tries anything you'll tell me. Alright?" Boscha asked, "She pulls a single bit of shit on you, she's gonna get hunted."
Amity giggled a little, turning to give Boscha a quick hug, "I will. Thank you...Pudding."
"Shut up! Shut up!" Boscha shrieked, giving Amity a lighthearted shove, "Fuck you, I'll let you die to that witch!"
"What's the matter, Pudding?" Amity asked, fluttering her eyelashes.
"Only Willow can call me that!" Boscha whined, stamping her feet like a child throwing a tantrum, prompting a good natured laugh from the rest of the group.
The rest of the walk was peaceful, rather quiet, with some banter between the friends here and there, and plenty of silence in between to let Amity think. Because Amity was smart, and she had seen all this coming. She just got a bit blindsided because Luz is really, really pretty, and when she wants to be she can be incredibly sweet and endearing.
But Amity had seen this coming before, and she fell for it once because she was naive and thought Luz was capable of change. She was going to keep her guard up from now on. She would never, ever, let her guard slip. No thought of Luz smiling, no image of Luz practicing with her skateboard and getting all sweaty and focused, no daydreams of Luz holding her like she did when Amity had tried (and failed) to attack her, and instead of Luz walking away, having her lean in and…
It was becoming apparent to Amity she had a lot of work to do to make sure her guard stayed up.
Amity sighed, taking a seat outside of her apartment complex and taking a look out to the sun, watching as it started to lean closer to the horizon. The day was almost over, and the sun was, much like Amity, ready for some rest. But not quite yet. As her shadow stretched out over the ground, she couldn't help but hear the familiar sounds of polyurethane rolling on pavement.
Luz was rolling to the green haired girl, grin plastered to her face. Seems she was finally able to get out again. And she was loving it. The smile made Amity's chest flutter a bit, and she stood up. Luz came to a stop, kicking her board up to her hand with a distinct clack.
"'Sup, Blight?"
Amity laughed, giving Luz a look up and down, "I see you're back on your feet."
Luz fired finger guns at Amity, sticking her tongue out, "You know it. Feels so good to be out and about."
"I can imagine," Amity said, "You never struck me as the type who likes staying inside all the time."
Luz shook her head, sighing.
"Not at all. But I had you. That helped," Luz said, carefully turning her head just a bit.
The way the sun hit her, backlighting the Dominican perfectly. It hid her face, but it outlined her figure perfectly. The pose, the way Luz held herself with such confidence, confidence you could see even when she was but a silhouette. The way the sweat gleaned from her neck. It drew Amity in. It drew her so close, she could just reach out and bury herself in that neck and let Luz hold her and she wouldn't care about the world until she let go again.
"I'm glad," Amity said, cursing her brain for being bad with words and for being so relentlessly gay.
Luz was quiet for a moment, scratching the back of her head to fill the air.
"Would it...Would it be strange if I asked you to come over more often?" Luz asked, more to the air than to Amity.
Amity swallowed, taking a step closer to Luz, "Not...Not at all. I enjoyed your company."
"I...I enjoyed yours. You're a good friend," Luz kept her eyes firmly away from Amity's.
And Amity knew why. Because they were friends. Only friends until Luz decided she had built her up enough to knock her back down. But that was okay, because Amity could see it coming, and she would be able to stop it before it got too bad this time.
With a small smile, Amity placed a hand on Luz's shoulder.
"I'll come over. Check in on you," she said.
"Thank you, Blight."
Amity gave the other girl a quick hug. Not super brief, but nowhere near as long as she would've liked to go for.
"Do you...Do you really consider me your friend, Luz?"
Luz swallowed. Awkwardly. And for the first time in a while, Amity's brain started to stop working, because Luz was nervous, or shy, about something, and not in a bad way it seemed.
"Yeah," She said after a bit, gaze finally returning to look Amity in the eye, "I do. Really, I do. I...I gave you a lot of shit but...Well…"
"Realized I'm not as much of a loser as you thought?" Amity smirked.
Luz snorted, giving Amity a gentle shove, "Nah, you're still a loser. But...But you care. You…" Luz stopped, gesturing as she tried to find her words, "You care. Which is...it's nice. I don't get that from the guys I hang out with. We give each other so much shit it's hard to tell if we mean it or not anymore."
Amity's smirk started to turn into a more somber smile, her hand going back to Luz's shoulder.
"And...Well...Fucking, you get the point," Luz said, turning her head back to the side, "You care. And I appreciate it. A lot. So…"
Luz sighed, and took a deep breath, finally looking Amity in the eyes again, the faintest of blush's tinting her cheeks.
"So, thank you, Blight," she sort of half-whispered.
"Of course," Amity smiled, and gave Luz a much better hug, taking a deep breath and letting her shoulders fall. She could seriously get drunk off this. Or high. Or something. Part of her wished she didn't have to let go.
After a few moments had passed, Amity smirked, "And thank you for having good taste in music."
Luz scoffed, cocky grin gluing itself to her cheeks, "Naturally."
"I mean, seriously, you're talented," Amity said, "Not as talented as a Blight. But close!"
Luz laughed, putting on an over the top British accent, "Oh, yes, Madam Blight, you must know your family carries a high stature!"
Amity groaned, smiling, "We're not that uptight."
"You aren't, and your siblings aren't. But if memory serves, your parents are on some other shit," Luz said.
Amity nodded, sighing a bit, "Yeah they're….They're something alright."
Luz nodded, graciously skipping the subject, "Your siblings are pretty cool. I guess I did the right thing by promising to take care of you.
Now it was Amity's turn to become a tomato! Because she was red, everywhere in the face, and the sun wasn't helping to hide it. Luz laughed a little, giving the girl a shove (which seemed to snap her out of it).
"I'm gonna dip," Luz said, "I'll...I'll catch you around."
"See ya'," Amity managed, a really stupid looking smile creeping up her face. The feeling that Luz always brought to her when she touched her, that feeling of brain static, it was delayed this time. But it was starting to creep into Amity's brain, so Luz leaving before Amity shut down and fell into her arms was probably a good thing.
Even if it kind of sucked. A lot.
But Luz looked back as she rode off, waving over her shoulder. That smile shone through her silhouette, and the moment Luz was around the corner, Amity slammed her head into her hands, covering her face and muffling her scream of pure, gay pining, because she was too damn gay for her own good. And Luz was way too sweet, way too pretty, way too hot, and way too kind (when she wanted to be).
Amity made her way into her apartment, blissfully free of the sound of bickering siblings, and set herself down on her bed, a dumb, goofy grin stick to her face as she replayed what just happened over, and over, and over.
Amity snapped awake, drenched in sweat, face flushed a deep red. It had been a long time since she had a dream quite like that. She tried to trace it back into her head, trying to figure out how the hell they got to...And how Luz was able to...yeah, ok, maybe she shouldn't try to make sense of it. Maybe she should just try and think about the fact that it was a dream about Luz. Fucking. Noceda.
A cold splash of water jolted Amity the rest of the way to consciousness, as she prepared to slip inside of the shower. That was until her phone rang.
It was the siblings. Again. Mercifully, this time, not over TimeFace.
The girl answered the phone, "Hello, you two."
"Hey, Mittens!" Emira chimed, a muffled Edric in the background adding a half audible greeting of sorts.
"What's up? Everything alright?" Amity asked, struggling to fit her shower cap.
Edric came closer to the phone, "We just wanted to apologize for yesterday!"
Amity froze up for a moment.
"Yeah," Emira continued, "We...Felt kinda bad about what had happened. We hope we didn't make anything too awkward or weird or make you guys rush anything or-"
"No! Y-You didn't!" Amity interjected, "It...It actually went pretty well after that. But I appreciate the apology."
"Is went pretty well code for lesbian stuff?" Edirc laughed, before a small 'Ow' was heard, alongside a firm smack from Emira to the back of his head.
"Well we're happy to hear that!" Emira's voice carried her smile, and Amity felt herself relax.
"Thank you," Amity said, "And thank you both for checking in on me. I appreciate it."
"Safe sex!" Edric shouted again, as Emira eventually hung up. Just as Amity was about to turn the tap to the shower, she heard her text tone go off. She looked over, expecting a message from Boscha or maybe Willow, or Gus sending another meme in the group chat. So when she saw Luz's name she blushed a bit. More than was probably warranted.
That was what Amity thought, anyways, until she read the text.
u free tomorrow tonight?
Ok, all the blushing was warranted now. Why would Luz want to know if Amity was free? Tonight? Unless she was asking her out on a date? Or setting her up for a trap?
Amity's rational brain caught up just in time.
Because it was probably a trap.
Keep your guard up, Am.
Yeah, i will be. Whats up?
i wanted to hang out with you. Take you to do some cool shit.
cool as in dangerous?
nah, but still pretty cool.
tho a luzer like you wuld prob think its dangerous lol.
:P Thats not a good way to get me on board
well i didnt wann force ur hand again so if u wanna come along meet me at my place at like 9 ish.
Amity blushed a bit. Either Luz was somehow experiencing change, or, as her rational brain was screaming at her, this was a trap. A trap she would have to keep her guard up for, because apparently while Amity Blight is plenty smart she likes walking straight into traps.
I'll think about it.
ight. Ttyl.
Amity's shower was pretty brief after that, because this was the kind of situation she was 100% sure needed a group discussion. It didn't take long for her to finish getting dressed and find her way outside. Nice, bright, early, before most of the campus had woken up and gotten to functioning. Except for Willow and Gus, who were by the central plaza fountain like clockwork.
"Oi, you two," Amity said, speed walking over, "Cmon."
"What's up?" Gus asked, looking up from his phone.
Amity waved for them to follow her, not taking the time to stop, "We've got a dilemma to handle right now. Let's head to Boscha's place, we'll wake her up and figure out a plan."
"Oh boy, planning and team meetings!" Gus said, in a tone that was hard to tell if he was sarcastic or dead serious, "who's the getaway driver?"
"Not that kind of dilemma, Gus," Willow said, before looking at Amity, "...Right?"
Amity shook her head, "God, no. Christ, Gus."
Willow sighed, putting a hand to her chest.
"It's uhh..It's Luz, again."
Willow snickered, "Oh, this is gonna be fuuuuun!"
The trio busted into Boscha's apartment, an act both welcome and exceedingly unwelcome, but who cared, they had already done it. As Boscha scrambled to make herself look somewhat decent, she cleared some spaces on the furniture and sat herself down.
She cleared her throat a bit, "So, what's up? What's got all of you here?"
"Luz. Fucking. Noceda," Amity said.
"Did she…?" Boscha asked, already starting to grip at the arm of the couch, "Ooooh, I swear to god, Amity,"
"No! No, calm down!" Amity said, quickly reaching out to touch Boscha's arm, "Don't release the hounds...Yet, anyways."
"Then what is it?" Willow asked, while Gus helped himself to some chips left out on the table.
Amity sighed, slumping back in her seat, "She...wants to go do something again. And she isn't saying what it is."
Gus shrugged, "So it's a trap, don't go."
"Haven't you two been spending a lot of time together, though?" Boscha added, tapping her lips with her finger.
"Yeah, and…" Amity swallowed, scratching the back of her neck, "That is what has me worried."
Willow, internally damning herself for it, couldn't help but snicker a bit. Amity glanced at her, looking a tad hurt.
"Sorry, Am," Willow said, clearing her throat, "It's just that, if I didn't know any better, I would think you were some sort of masochist."
Boscha busted a gut as Amity quickly turned beet red. Oh how she wished she had the power to just magically make Willow burn up and disappear. Maybe in some other universe.
"A masowhat?" Gus asked, always the innocent one on things like this.
Boscha stretched out, putting her feet up, "Someone who likes pain, Gus. In like a romantic-y, sexually sorta way."
Boscha laughed as she defended herself from Amity's "shut up" slaps, Gus taking the moment to think.
"Gross," he said, "But accurate! I mean given how much time you have spent with her in the last few days, I mean, maybe you do have a glutton for punishment!"
"Oh, Luz," Boscha said, bringing the back of her wrist to her forehead as she channeled her best Amity impression, "Punish me."
Willow laughed, covering her mouth, "I think Amity doesn't mind being wrapped around Luz's finger so long as Luz is wrapping something around her neck."
"This is serious!" Amity squeaked, throwing her fist down on the cushion.
After the laughing fit of her friends had passed, and Amity had returned to normal human colors, she spoke up again, "It's...I don't know if I'm gonna be able to keep my guard up. I don't know if I'll be able to see anything coming."
She sighed deeply, covering her face with her hands as she whispered, "Or if I'll even care."
Boscha put an arm around Amity, and the air suddenly got much thicker.
"Amy," Boshca said, voice falling a bit, "Do...Do you...Do you like...Luz?"
Amity felt her lip quiver, and she tried to blink away the tears. The dam was well and truly broken, though. She took a moment to mentally thank her friends for being her friends, and being as good as they are. And then Amity broke. Amity Blight broke like a frozen slim jim, falling into Boscha's arms. Heart wrenching sobs from the green haired girl filled the room, Willow and Gus moving to do their best to collectively hold Amity with Boscha.
And for that, Amity felt eternally grateful. Because for the first time in years, since she was a child, Amity felt small. Rather, she felt like she was allowed to. For too damn long, she was having to stand tall, be a Blight, and handle everything as it hit her. She was never allowed a moment like this, to realize just how much was on her shoulders and finally let herself be properly overwhelmed while feeling safe.
One girl was all it took to make Amity Blight realize she was not capable of standing tall. Amity Blight was not capable of handling this battle on her own, and she was far from being a big, proper adult. Because right now she felt like she was trapped in a pinhole, the world crushing down around her and the only damn thing capable of freeing her was Luz Fucking Noceda, meaning she would never get out of her own mental prison.
Thank god for Amity's friends. Because even with all that in mind, Amity felt safe. She felt safe to be small, she felt safe being vulnerable around her friends. And she felt safe with them knowing the truth. Because she was so, so in love with Luz, and she was afraid of what was going to happen next, because Amity could not let her heart be broken after seeing it coming.
The time it took for her to stop sobbing crawled past. Each time she sounded like she was close to calming down, a despair drenched cry from the pit of Amity's heart rang out, and her friends held her tighter. Eventually though, the cries became more spaced out, Amity's breathing weird stuttery breaths in that everyone has when they cry became less frequent, and Amity, who had cried more than she had ever cried before, sat surrounded by her friends, her body finally succumbing to exhaustion.
"Amity," Willow said, "We can't promise you that everything will be alright. But we can promise that we will be here for you."
"Thank you," Amity creaked.
Boscha gave her friend a squeeze, "We think whether or not you go should be up to you."
"Just try to keep your eyes peeled," Gus finished, giving Amity's back a gentle rub.
"And Amity?" Boscha asked.
Amity glanced up, tears staining her entire face.
"Promise us that you'll tell her the truth." Boscha said.
Amity's shock did all the speaking for her.
"We need you to. Because if she ...Feels the same way about you," Willow said, choosing her words with caution, "then you two can work out what's going on between you two."
"But if she doesn't," Boscha said, "You need to let her go."
Amity thought for a beat, and nodded weakly, "I'll do my best."
Boscha smiled a bit, "Do you need anything?"
"Some tea would be nice," Amity managed, finally sitting upright and wiping her face.
As Boscha got up and started the kettle on the stove, Amity couldn't help but try to make the air a little less serious. Watching Boscha go through her collection of tea's, Amity smirked.
"What kind do you want?" Boscha called.
"Green, please...Poser."
"Tea is healthy and comforting! It is not an act of poser-ism to have tea!" Boscha defended, preparing the sachet, "And besides your entire family probably could run off tea for 15 years, poser!"
"Rich and spoiled doesn't equal poser!" Amity scoffed.
The playful banter between them all kept on, until Amity had calmed down, promised her friends thrice over that she was going to be okay and would call them if she needed help, and eventually headed back to her apartment. She was ready to flop into bed without another thought about the world, when her phone buzzed gently. She probably shouldn't check it, all things considered. But one peek couldn't hurt.
The clock ticked past 1 am, and Amity groggily scanned over the text from Luz. Four characters, nothing more, Nothing less.
gn :p
And Amity promptly set down her phone, and in an effort to get a good night's rest (and to not let today go to waste), slammed her face into her pillows, and went straight to sleep.
