Chapter 13
Ben awoke with a start as a shimmering red cloud dissipated around him. It took him a moment to understand where he was and what was happening. It was immediately clear that he was underwater as air bubbles were left in the wake of his every movement. Then as he looked at his hands he was surprised to see that his wrists and ankles were free from the manacles. He would have rubbed his wrists, but they were no longer sore. In fact all traces of the ordeals he had suffered the past few days had been wiped away. And his body felt like it was full of energy, his muscles coursed with renewed vigor, but his mind still felt muddled and sluggish. He looked around the room that he was in to regain his bearings. As he looked down he saw that he had been lying on a large round bed. The red material that he was sitting on was like nothing he had ever felt. It was both silky smooth, yet fibrous, as if someone had woven fabric out of corn silk. He scanned the room and saw a makeup table against one wall, a dresser on another and an open closet space with various outfits swaying gently in the ever-moving water. Bright multicolored orbs floated at the top of the room's high ceiling casting a prism of light around the room. Then his eyes fell upon a large round rock, which acted as a door to this bedroom, his earlier guess had been right, the large boulder had led to another room, this one. Then the king noticed a white light coming from a hallway leading away from the room to his right. The light appeared to be emanating from beneath a door at the end of the hallway. For a moment Ben thought about exploring this hallway to see if it led to a possible escape, but then the sound of gentle singing reached his ears. The king assumed that Uma was the singer, it sounded like her. The song was full of such a heartbreaking sadness that Ben turned away not wanting to feel her pain as it threatened to mix with his own heartache.
So to distract himself he began questioning, 'Why did she bring me into her bedroom? What time is it? Have I slept all night? Is it time to return to the ship? Then Ben asked the question that he feared the answer to most, 'Why did she bring me all this way? He doubted it was just to take a nap in her underwater home. Uma had her reasons and he was sure he would soon find out why exactly she had gone to all the trouble of bring him here.
Uma had been preening for the past hour as she waited for her potion to finish brewing and take affect on the sleeping king. She wanted to look her best for tonight. And looking in the mirror at her full reflection Uma was sure she had gotten as near perfection as an eight-legged sea witch could get. She had rubbed shimmering oil on all her legs to make them dazzling in the soft light of the orbs in her room. Her torso was sheathed in a white lace corset, which left just enough to the imagination to make it look both innocent and tempting. And she had woven her beautiful blue braids together to form an intricate crown around her head, then led to a larger braid that flowed down her neck and rested on her left shoulder. She had also applied a light covering of sea makeup that enhanced her beauty rather than distracting from it. Yes, she was ready.
All the while, as she prepared for what was to come, she sang the siren's song that her mother had taught her. Although she wished that the king of Auradon could and would choose her over Mal, she didn't harbor any illusions of this. Even though she had broken his heart, Ben was still very much in love with Mal. There was only one way that Uma could win the king's heart, and that was by sorcery. Just as her mother had stolen Prince Eric away from that Merprincess Ariel, now she would steal the King of Auradon from that would-be-princess, Mal.
It was strange, although his head had cleared from the haze of unconsciousness; it was still so difficult for him to concentrate. The song, which was still so quiet, seemed to fill the king's every thought. It was as if he could think of nothing but the sorrow and longing that filled every note of the melody. His heart ached to comfort the singer, to take away her sadness. Ben began to believe that he would perish from the overwhelming despair emanating from that song; unless he filled the singer with all the love he was capable of giving. The desperate need to shower the songstress with affection consumed the king.
Ben would have gotten up from the bed and rushed to her, if Uma hadn't just come through the door and entered the hallway at that moment. As she moved from the shadows of the hall into the light of the room the king took in her appearance and gasped. Had he known beauty before? This was no mere woman standing before him, no, this was a goddess. Her many tentacles sparkled like diamonds in the soft light and her white lace clad bodice tantalized his manhood with glimpses of her supple ebony skin beneath. He could feel himself growing hard as she slowly advanced towards him continuing to softly sing her heartbreaking melody. The closer she came the more he felt compelled to take her into his arms and kiss her.
But no, that would be wrong, he loved Mal. And this woman had held him against his will for over a day now. How could he want anything to do with her, after all that she had done to him? Yet even as these thoughts entered Ben's mind, the song, which filled the room, quickly stole them away. All he could think of was how sad Uma was and how much he wanted to comfort her. How he would show her the love that everyone else had denied her. How he wanted to be there for her. How he wanted to make all the sadness melt away with the passion of his love.
Ben quickly closed the space between them, enveloping Uma in a loving embrace. Then he took her face in his hands and began kissing her ardently on the lips. The electric feeling of their lips touching set Uma on fire and she quickly began kissing him back. Although she was no longer able to sing with her lips engaged thus, Uma knew that the affects of the siren's song would last for hours before eventually wearing off. In that time she plan to enjoy herself as completely as possible with her enchanted lover. And so they tumbled onto the bed, with Uma's tentacles wrapping securely around the man's limbs drawing him in even closer as their kisses continued into the night.
