Here's the next part!

Vic was not in a great mood. She had spent the morning manning the phones at the station, dealing with about a million people calling in with crazy theories about the rocket that had exploded. She had managed to talk about 90% of them down and the other 10% hung up on her because they thought she wasn't listening to them. She was exhausted, but it was better than dealing with the insanity that the crew had dealt with at the station.

She had no idea what she was going to do because for the second time in as many weeks, she was essentially homeless. She had thought about asking Maya if she could crash with her, but she decided she had had enough of the intense blonde at the station and she didn't need that at home too.

She had been so grateful that Dean had offered to let her move in with him and Pru because 1) she loved the houseboat, 2) she loved babies, and 3) Dean was probably one of the least annoying humans she knew. She had essentially moved in immediately, her bags already in her car.

However, as she unpacked her stuff, she realized she had somehow ended up with a couple things that belonged to her ex. She knew deep down that he wouldn't miss the t-shirts, socks, and sweatshirt she had brought with her, but she honestly was still in denial that they were over so she gathered up her things and headed to the hospital to give them back to him. She had no idea why she was doing it because he had made it clear he was done, but she wanted to just talk to him one more time.

As she walked up to the hospital, she realized she wasn't totally sure where to find Jackson, but she didn't want to ask anyone. She started wandering, knowing she eventually would need to ask someone where to go but not wanting to yet.

As she was walking, she was also people watching, noticing the various people in the hospital. As she wandered, she spotted Andrew Deluca, thinking of asking him where to find Jackson because they were kinda friends and she felt less awkward asking him than a random person.

However, before she could approach him, another woman walked up to him. This other woman started speaking quickly to him in what Vic thought might be Italian, but she wasn't sure.

Vic just kinda stood back, watching the interaction. She couldn't help but notice that this other woman was insanely hot. Vic hadn't quite nailed down her own sexuality, knowing she wasn't simply straight but having found the exact label she identified with. However, Vic did know that this woman talking to Andrew made her feel a certain type of way. She wondered if she was his girlfriend or something, finding herself feeling a little jealous of him if that was the case.

Vic was just kinda staring at this mesmerizing woman when she heard her name.

"Vic?" the voice said, causing Vic to turn around and see who it was. She was surprised to see her captain walking toward her, two cups of coffee in hand, "What are you doing here?"

"Oh," Vic said, "Um, I am just bringing some stuff to Jackson. What are you doing here?"

"Oh, I saw him when I came in," Maya said, avoiding the question, "He was going down to the ER. Are you ok? I called your name three times before you turned around."

"Yeah. Sorry. I just got distracted by…", Vic went to point out Andrew and the woman he was talking to, but they were both gone, "This really hot doctor. Never mind. It doesn't matter."

"Ok," Maya said, a little confused but not really wanting to get into it, mostly because things at the station were still tense and she didn't feel like she could just talk to her team like she could before, "Well, you should go get that stuff to Jackson."

"Yeah," Vic nodded, "See ya."

"Bye," Maya said as she continued.

Vic went down to the ER, giving Jackson back his stuff, the plastic surgeon making it abundantly clear that he was not interested in getting back together with her, even less so when she told him she was moving in with Dean. That actually seemed to almost make him angrier than the fact that she had moved into his place without telling him. Vic did not understand what the big deal was, but she had no desire to have that conversation with him in the busy ER.

As she went to leave, Vic noticed she didn't have her phone. She wasn't sure where it could be, but she thought maybe she had dropped it when she was upstairs. She went back up to where she was before, asking someone at the desk if someone had turned in a phone.

Luckily, Vic's phone was there and she was about to leave when she saw the hot doctor again, leaning on the nurse's station talking to someone. Vic couldn't help but stare at her again, her brain almost unable to comprehend how someone could be that attractive.

Vic noticed she seemed much more relaxed than she did when she was talking to Andrew, her hand resting on the arm of the person she was talking to.

It was then Vic noticed the other person. Their back was to her so she couldn't see their face, but the hair and the clothes, she knew them from somewhere. It took her about two seconds to realize the person who the Italian doctor was talking to was in fact Maya Bishop.

Vic's mouth fell open as she watched her boss lean over and press a small kiss to the doctor's lips. Her brain almost couldn't compute what she was seeing. Her boss, the woman who swore off monogamy and claimed to hate relationships, was standing in the hospital kissing another woman.

Vic also noticed the matching coffee cups they were holding, realizing they were the ones she had seen earlier in Maya's hands. Had Maya brought this coffee for this mysterious Italian doctor? Was Maya dating this woman?

Vic had about a million questions swirling through her head. However, she hadn't heard anything about a relationship from Maya, not that she probably made her captain feel like she could talk to her even if she wanted to. She thought about walking up to them and asking, but she wasn't sure how Maya would react to getting found out about this relationship that seemed to be a secret, at least from the station.

Vic noticed the Italian checking her phone, giving Maya one more kiss before downing her coffee. After dating Jackson, Vic knew the doctor had just gotten paged.

Before Maya could see her, Vic quickly turned and headed to the elevators.

As she stood there waiting, the Italian doctor walked up next to her, waiting too. Vic tried to play it cool, not really looking at her. They got in the elevator together.

"What floor?" the Italian asked, hitting the 1.

"Oh, same as you," Vic said, "I'm heading out."

"Lucky you," the doctor said, smiling tiredly, "I wish. I am exhausted. Although I guess I shouldn't complain because my girlfriend just brought me the most amazing coffee."

Vic almost choked when she heard this woman refer to Maya as her girlfriend but managed to stay composed.

"Where's the coffee from?" Vic asked, trying to make conversation.

"Oh, from this little Italian Café called Café Umbria," the Italian said, "It's kinda far, but so worth it. It tastes like home."

"I'll have to check it out," Vic said, smiling, "I'm Vic by the way, Vic Hughes."

"Dr. Carina Deluca," the Italian said, "Nice to meet you. I feel like you look familiar."

"I am a firefighter with Station 19," Vic said, "And I work the aid care a lot. I'm sure I've brought you a patient or two."

Vic watched the subtle ways Carina's face changed when she heard that, though to her credit, the doctor did a good job not letting on that she had any idea who Vic was.

"That must be it," Carina nodded, "Well, I have a mamma in early labor so I need to go. It was nice to meet you Vic Hughes."

"Nice to meet you Dr. Deluca," Vic called as Carina ran toward the ER while Vic headed toward the exit.

The young firefighter tried to digest what she had just witnessed. Apparently, her boss had a girlfriend who was a crazy hot doctor and Maya liked this woman enough to drive twenty minutes one way to get her coffee and bring it to her at work because yes, Vic had looked up the coffee place Carina had told her about on her way to the car.

Vic sighed as she got into the car. Something about realizing Maya had a girlfriend who she cared about that much made her feel bad about how they had all been acting toward the Captain recently. She knew that was a stupid reason to feel bad about how they had treated Maya, but also, watching Maya with Carina reminded Vic of the Maya she loved instead of the new captain struggling to get her feet under her. This Maya reminded her of the Maya who helped her when she was afraid of fire and just stood by her until she felt better, of the Maya who had tied her tie on the day of her fiancé's funeral and wiped the tears off her cheeks, the Maya who was there for her whenever she needed her without questions.

Vic hadn't really been that mad that Maya had gotten the job, and while she didn't love her intensity, the blonde was doing a good job. Sure, Maya was intense, but she was just trying to push everyone to be their best which would help keep them safe in the end.

Vic picked up her phone, pulling up her messages. She opened Maya's contact info, finger hovering over the text button. She wasn't really sure what she wanted to say. She sat in her car for a few minutes, just sating at the phone, before abandoning the idea, tossing her phone aside as she started toward Miller's house. She had about a million things she wanted to ask Maya and also tell her, but she just wasn't sure how so she decided to just push it out of her mind for now, focusing instead on getting to her new home.
