Welcome back to Dragons Plus Phoenix. Last time, Ember and Riley set to work on deciphering the Assassin's laptop while the rest of the team set out for his headquarters deep in the swamps. After defusing an explosive trap on a secret passage they found, the team headed down to explore the passageway concealed beneath. So, what do they find in the depths? Read on to discover...
(Our story resumes deep underground, where we see MacGyver, Jack, Spyro, Cynder, Flame, and Hunter are... currently standing in the dark as Flame shuts the trapdoor behind them)
Jack: Anybody got a flashlight?
Flame: Can't you just use the one on your phone?
Jack: Bulb's dead.
MacGyver: (Feeling the wall) I saw some torches on the wall when we came down here. (Grabs a torch in the darkness) There we go. Now we just need a way to light it.
Spyro: Leave that to me.
(With that remark, Spyro breathes a low stream of fire onto the tip of the torch, lighting it and revealing a little more than you would expect from just the small flame.)
MacGyver: Alright, everybody grab a torch from the wall and light it off mine, we'll need all the light we can get.
(And so everybody does just that, lighting up the small corridor significantly.)
MacGyver: (Looking around the room in the torchlight, spying one dead end and only one corridor forward) Well, guess there's only one way to go from here.
(Now lit, the group proceeds forward down the corridor for what feels like hours, but is probably only a few minutes. At one point, Jack is about to say something, but MacGyver shushes him, and just a second later, we understand why, there's voices coming from the corridor up ahead)
MacGyver: We're not alone.
Flame: Some of the Assassin's goons must be down here.
Jack: Well at least we're finally going to get some action. I've been itching to kick some tail since we got down here.
MacGyver: Either way, proceed with caution, we don't know what we're honestly dealing with here. I can't tell if they've got magic or what.
Cynder: Chances of anybody we might encounter having magic are slim, but not impossible.
MacGyver: Good to know.
(With that the group carries on, fully prepared to face whatever awaits them beyond the corridor, and soon enough around a corner we see a pair of dragons guarding what looks like a massive amount of armaments, primarily assault rifles and what look like scepters topped with dark gems)
MacGyver: Looks like only two guards, but a lot of guns. So watch your Fire
Spyro: Thankfully you won't need to worry about that. Those staffs are topped with Dark Gems. They drain mana first thing.
Cynder: And then go for life force next.
Jack: Yikes.
MacGyver: Then we'll need to work fast.
(And with their admittedly questionable plan in action, the group sneaks in and almost manages to sneak up on the two guards, but Flame accidentally knocks over a staff, causing it's tip to shatter, alerting the guards)
Guard 1: Intruders!
MacGyver: So much for stealth!
(And with that, the fight begins. The two guards put up their best efforts, but ultimately the fight proves too much for them. One is taken down by the gymnastic fighting of Flame mixed with a few swift kicks from Jack, while Spyro, Cynder, Hunter, and MacGyver take out the other one with superior cooperation. The second guard dies from accidentally slitting their throat on Cynder's wing blade, but the other one stays alive as Flame holds them in a headlock they can still talk through.)
MacGyver: Alright, who are you working for?
Guard 1: Our leader may have fallen, but you will not stop us!
(With that, the guard appears to attack Jack, but in reality steals his gun, shooting himself in the head before they can get anything else out of him.)
Hunter: Well, that didn't go well at all.
Jack: (Picking his weapon from the guard's grasp) I don't know, we did just figure out the mastermind of the plot is dead.
MacGyver: But his followers are still left to fulfill his final plan.
Spyro: A plan we still know nothing about mind you.
MacGyver: Hopefully we'll find something in all this mess down here.
Cynder: Then let's get looking.
(Now the search begins, everybody looking through all the data they can find, but ultimately, it's MacGyver who finds something after forcing open a filing cabinet with his swiss army knife. And what he finds startles him, promoting him to start running out of the corridor, to everyone's surprise)
Jack: Whoa, Mac, where's the fire?
MacGyver: We've got to get back to the Temple, quickly.
Spyro: Why? What did you find?
MacGyver: At least part of their plan. They've infiltrated the Temple.
Cynder: (Looking down at the dead guards) It looks like he's right! These two started working at the Temple on the custodial team about a week ago!
MacGyver: And it looks like Ember and Riley are about to set off a trap.
(And on that ominous note, our tale ends for today)
