Welcome back to Dragons Plus Phoenix. Last time, our two groups of heroes met up again and found the bomb at the center of the Temple Dojo. Realizing this thing requires specialized tools to keep it from detonating before he can defuse it, namely a very fine blade and some way to keep it from getting too hot while he works, Spyro and Cynder volunteer their abilities and weapons to help him out while everybody else keeps the enemy from attacking the trio at work. Things are starting to heat up now, so how's this going to go down? Read on to discover...

(Our scene opens on gunfire as Jack and Flame, still wielding automatic rifles from previously slain enemies start mowing down the enemy soldiers in their path, assisted by occasional headshots from Hunter's bow, but we can see his quiver running dry.)

Hunter: Almost out of arrows here, guys!

(Taking a break from shooting, Flame grabs the gun from one of the fallen soldiers and tosses it to Hunter after checking that the clip has ammo in it)

Flame: I know you dislike guns, but we really don't have time or supplies to make new arrows.

Hunter: (Cocking the weapon) I can make this work.

(And now Hunter joins the firefight proper, as we transition to the group their protecting, where MacGyver, Spyro, and Cynder have started observing the bomb, noting the timer now reads 5 minutes to detonation.)

MacGyver: We don't have a lot of time, we need to get at this now.

Spyro: You've got enough data to figure out how the bomb works, right?

MacGyver: Combine what I've seen with what I've experienced, I think with your help, this'll be easy. But don't quote me on that.

Cynder: Sure, no pressure.

MacGyver: Alright, let's get to work.

(With that call to action, MacGyver opens a panel on the front of the bomb, removing what appears to be a casing, revealing a set of eight wires, one marking the colors of each of the basic elements from Dawn of the Dragon. Right away MacGyver observes the wires and grabs a hold of Cynder's tail blade, immediately snipping two of them. But at this point he sees he's sweating and is about to let perspiration drip onto the bomb. This would presumably increase the temperature of the system, so he signals for Spyro to cool everything down a bit. Meanwhile, Riley, Bozer, Ember, and Elora have spotted a group of the enemy forces sneaking in through another entrance, and go to work taking them out with quick displays of CQC, which seems to impress the quartet)

Riley: Guess all that CQC training is finally paying off!

Ember: And it's working wonders for you so far.

(While they keep at it, we focus back on MacGyver and the bomb, and we see MacGyver has cut at least three more wires using Cynder's tail blade)

Spyro: How's it going, Mac?

MacGyver: I've managed to at least work this out. One of these wires is for the timer, one is for the actual payload, and the third has no purpose.

Cynder: I'm sensing a but coming.

MacGyver: But all three of them are on tension triggers. If I extend the wires in any way, the thing automatically goes off.

Spyro: Would it help if I froze the wires first? That way you could just shatter them.

MacGyver: Too risky. It might trigger the thermal detonator.

Cynder: I thought that's exactly why we were trying to keep the system cool in the first place!

MacGyver: Ice breath starts out with a burst of hot air before cooling down. If it hits that close, the starting heat might accidentally trigger it.

Spyro: He's not wrong. It's too risky to freeze the wires.

Cynder: So what do we do now?

MacGyver: Using your Poison is too risky as the chemical reaction might set off the explosives prematurely.

(Now MacGyver is getting desperate, looking around for a solution to this problem. He knows he can't cut the wires that might actually defuse the bomb due to the tension triggers, so he has to look elsewhere. And at this point, he spies a lever hidden in a doorway.)

MacGyver: Wait, what's that lever do?

Spyro: Allows the statue we're standing in front of to sink into the floor so we can properly use this room for training. Why?

MacGyver: Second question, how dense is this floor?

Cynder: Considering it survives impacts from the Earth elemental operatives on the daily, probably incredibly. Again, why?

MacGyver: Let's just say I've got a plan.

(With that, MacGyver shoves the bomb in between the statue's legs and runs toward the lever, pulling it, causing the statue and the bomb to sink into the ground as the stone floor closes over the top of it)

Spyro: Mac, are you crazy?!

MacGyver: It's the only thing that seems like it could work. EVERYBODY! WE NEED TO GET OUT OF HERE! NOW!

Ember: (Choking out one of the enemy soldiers) This way! There's nobody coming from this way.

Bozer: Anymore, that is.

(Sensing the urgency, Elora, Bozer, Riley, and Ember run out first, followed swiftly by MacGyver, Spyro, and Cynder, with Jack, Flame, and Hunter laying covering fire as they go. As soon as the last of the group is out of the room and behind cover, the timer on the bomb hits zero and the stone floor shifts up and cracks as the explosives go off, no doubt destroying the statue it was tucked under, but kills nobody.)

Cynder: (Getting up from behind cover and seeing this) I can't believe that actually worked!

MacGyver: I still wouldn't set foot in there until you get that floor looked at.

Jack: Guess we'll have to go the long way around to pick up any surviving enemy agents.

Flame: Then let's get to work.

(With that, the group starts out to round up the survivors, as our tale ends for today)

And that looks like a good place to end for today. So it looks like Mac's work as an EOD tech apparently told him the best way to defuse this bomb was not to defuse it at all. And as to how that Temple Dojo floor withstood the explosion, you'll have to tune in next time for more details on that. Speaking of next time, the next update will be the finale to this story. So to see how this whole story wraps up, tune in next time! Same time... same channel!
