Flashback

Although Pokétopia is a wondrous world filled with mystery and excitement everywhere you go, it isn't exactly perfect, in fact, it's far from it. The world, as well as the Pokémon inhabiting it, have their fair share of flaws and drawbacks. The most obvious being the multitude of outlaws, criminals, and mercenaries that wander about, disturbing the peace of whatever city/town they come across. Which brings the question as to why they're doing this in the first place. Did their lives take a wrong turn? Did they lose everything they had to a higher authority and was forced out? Or are they doing this because they are beyond society's reach and simply enjoy the chaos they cause?

In the case of one certain outlaw in Treasure Town, it is the thrill and adrenaline that running from the law brings. Dashing and sneaking silently through the back alleys of Treasure Town, a lone Sneasel with an old and empty backpack is doing his best to avoid detection from the other Pokemon. He had pulled off burglaries before, but he is now about to go for the big fish as he made his way towards his target; The Treasure Town Guild Hall. Normally he would commit his crimes at night, but after keeping watch over the Guild and some of its members for the last two weeks, he's set his eyes on whatever they got hauled up in there. He had been waiting for the perfect time to infiltrate the guild, and after hearing that all of the Rescue teams will be away on missions for the rest of the day, this was his chance. He even saw what he believed was Team Vitality exit Marowak's Dojo and leave town. Perfect.

As he was approaching the Guild, he could have sworn he saw two other Pokémon complete the security check and walked in through the front gate. He paid no attention to them, much less knew what they were, as he was trying to figure out how to get in without alerting the watch guards below. They would be able to identify his footprints immediately, which would no doubt have alerted everyone else inside of his arrival. There was nothing he could do but play the waiting game until an opportunity presented itself, which it did.

"If you two would be so kind as to follow me, the guildmaster would like to speak with you in regards to the application process," said a femine voice from inside.

"Uh, okay then," replied a younger, masculine voice.

He peeked out of his hiding spot from the stairs to see Mawile getting out of her seat and walking further into the guild, presumably with the two Pokémon in tow. Well, that's one problem taken care of. As for avoiding the guards down below…

"Hold on a sec," he said to himself. It was a bit of a risk, but he was willing to take it. He extended his claws and began scaling across the wall to the side of the guild. The smooth, see-through platform covered the entire area of the front entrance in which Pokémon have to step on in order to walk inside. If he could come in from the side, he could simply leap over it and walk inside without anyone noticing. They would probably think that a Flying-Type delivering mail was passing over and ignore it.

After a few minutes of rock climbing, he had finally reached the side of the guild and leapt over the guards' watch post.

"Did you see that bzzt?" said a voice from below.

"Probably a Pelipper just passing by on its way to the post office," replied another voice.

"Yeah, I guess you're right bzzt. By the way, you forgot to close the gate bzzt."

"Oh, right! My bad."

Sneasel then dashed into the guild just as the gate closed behind him. He is now inside, and takes the time to silently sneak through the guild in case anyone was still wandering about. So far, the guild was surprisingly empty as he passed by Mawile's desk and the request board towards the ladder to head further down. When he heard that every team is out on missions, they weren't kidding. Aside from the watch guards, the occasional janitor, and whoever Guildmaster Gallade was talking to in his main office, the Guild was vacant. How it is usually so active was Sneasel's guess.

He cautiously searched everywhere he could and traveled further down the ladder, searching for anything valuable. After a few more minutes, Sneasel came across a small metal gate like the one used for the entrance up top, next to it was a panel of some sort, probably to put in a pass code to open it. His eyes widened upon looking inside, which appeared to be some sort of treasure/storage room. Making sure there was nobody around, he used a swift Slash attack to cut the bottom part of the gate that was binded into the ground.

After lifting the gate up with his bare claws, albeit with much difficulty due to his small physique, he entered the room and gazed upon his prize.

"*Whistles* Looks like I hit the motherload. This is almost too easy," he chuckled to himself maliciously.

He didn't see only Poké, this room appeared to be some sort of secret storage room containing a mountain of Poké and a plethora of other valuable items. Wasting no more time, he readied his bag and loaded it to the brim on whatever he could; money, berries, battle items, a few gems and evolution stones, even a couple of TM's. Now with his bag loaded to the brim, he exits out of the storage room and heads his way back topside to the guild's entrance. He snickers to himself and is about to exit through the front door, when he glances over at Mawile's desk.

"Hmm… I guess it wouldn't hurt to see what's in there," he thought to himself.

Sneasel rummaged through the drawers as well as the top of the desk to find nothing other than a bunch of boring paperwork. He was just about to take his leave when two distinct folders piqued his interest. One of them individual posters and descriptions of outlaws wanted across Treasure Town, himself included. As for the other folder, that contained a map of the entire Grass Continent with certain markings on it, as well as a list of locations attached behind it. Sneasel grinned, as he could use a map to further plan his escape, as well as a list of potential towns and settlements to explore and steal from.

Deciding that he still had a little bit of room left in his bag, Sneasel decided to snatch both folders for himself. He was about to make his escape until…

"How did you get in here?" Called a voice from behind him.

Sneasel went wide-eyed and turned to see Mawile standing a few feet away.

"What are you…?" Mawile then got a good look at the Sneasel in front of her before realizing who he was and what he was doing. "Hey! You're not supposed to be in-"

"Ice Shard!"

Just before Mawile could take action, Sneasel swiftly set the bag down and launched an Ice Shard attack at her. She dodged just in time and took cover behind her desk to charge up a Fairy Wind attack. Mawile popped her head out to launch it at Sneasel, only to find that he was nowhere to be seen.

"What the-?! Where did he go?" She said as she hastily looked around.

"Hey Big Mouth! Behind you!"

*SLASH!*

Before Mawile could even react, Sneasel appeared out of nowhere and used Slash to knock her away from her desk. She then quickly stood up and regained her composure as Sneasel tried to attack her blind spot again. This time, as Sneasel was leaping at her with another Slash attack, her large maw began to open wide.

"Have a taste of my Crunch, Sneasel!" Mawile shouted as her maw's teeth began to glow.

Her maw quickly bit down at Sneasel with tremendous force, just barely missing their target. Reacting just in time, Sneasel managed to dodge Mawile's massive jaws, allowing him to get some distance between them. A few seconds have passed as the two Pokémon began to stare each other down. Mawile then prepared a Power-Up Punch and charged towards Sneasel, with him preparing an Ice Punch to do the same.

Just as he two attacks were about to collide, Sneasel dodged out of the way at the last second, catching Mawile by surprise. Time had slowed down for the two of them, with Sneasel wearing a big grin on his face as he had just won this fight..

"You lose… Ice Beam!"

Sneasel then dispelled his Ice Punch to use a point-blank Ice Beam on Mawile. The attack connects and sends her crashing into the ground on her back near the entrance of the guild. Now seeing that she was having trouble getting back up, Sneasel then used Ice Beam on her maw, hands and feet to lock her in place. He then kept using Ice Beam on her until all but her head was frozen in a shard of ice, unable to move any part of her body.

"Rrrrgh! Let me go, Sneasel!" She yelled as she struggled to break free.

Sneasel walked up to her with a smug grin and knelt down to get in her face. "Sorry sweetie, but I got places to be," he replied as he walked towards his bag and placed the folders he took inside. "I see the secretary life hasn't been treating you well, Mawile. I can't tell if you're living up to your species' deceptive nature by pretending to suck at battling, or if you've just become that much worse."

"*Grunt* You won't get away with this! And for the record, I am not a secretary!"

"Sorry, but I already have," he said while waving his bag in the air, taunting her. "Ciao, Secretary Mawile! Say 'hi' to your Guildmaster for me!"

*CRASH!*

Sneasel used Ice Shard on one of the windows and ran towards it before leaping through it.

"Get back here, you cold-hearted weasel!" He heard Mawile shout.

As he reached the bottom and took off running, his heart was racing not of fear, but accomplishment. He might as well have stolen from Guildmaster Gallade himself, as he not only broke into his guild undetected, but had outsmarted one of his fellow guild mates. Either that Mawile really had lost her touch after being his secretary, or he was just that good. He believed it was the latter as his main priority now was to make his escape and get as far away from them as possible.

Present-time

"Hahahaha! This couldn't be anymore perfect! So much for being the most well-known guild in the Grass Continent!"

Now running south of Treasure Town past the entrance of Beach Cave, Sneasel is being careful as to not drop anything while making his getaway. He had just done what he thought was unthinkable or seemingly impossible; steal important documents from Gallade's guild, as well as a hefty portion of their funds and items. Sure, things would've gone much smoother if he didn't get spotted by Mawile, but everything worked out in the end. He'll be set for a while in terms of food and finances, he could sell the items and TM's for a hefty price at the next town, as well as use the map to plan out his next move. Oh, and he'll be discarding the wanted posters of himself and the other outlaws, as they won't be much use to him at this point.

Although the heist itself was a success, Sneasel wasn't out of the water just yet. He kept running until he was out of town and the entrance to Drenched Bluff was coming into view. He slowed down to stop and set his bag in front of the entrance to catch his breath for a minute. He could take it easy the rest of the way, he thought. There's no way that any of Gallade's pesky rescue teams would catch up to him, even if they knew where he was going. Just a quick trek through the Mystery Dungeon, exit from the other side, and he's home free-

"Stop right there, criminal scum!"

"Agh! What the-" Sneasel exclaimed as he turned around. He expected to see one of Gallade's rescue teams or even a couple of Sheriff Magnezone's deputies. But instead, there was a Charmander and a Dratini who were… out of breath?

"*Pant* You're… You're not going anywhere… *Pant* Sneasel," said an out of breath Charmander. "You're… *Pant* Coming with us. Ughh, give us a minute. *Pant*"

"Uh…" Sneasel sweatdropped.

*Pant* Arceus, we need to hit Marowak's Dojo and get in shape when this is done. *Pant*" Charmander added.

"…Okay, if you're just gonna go over your fitness plans, I'm just gonna take this bag and-"

Dratini interrupted Sneasel, stopping him in his tracks. "N-No! *Pant* We're… We're here to stop you, Sneasel!" He wheezed. "Ohh, I knew running here straight from the guild was a bad idea."

"And apparently, this is now happening," Sneasel thought.

He didn't know what to think of this. A Charmander and a Dratini? They were just kids who weren't any older than 12 years old. Did Gallade make a mistake or was this some sort of joke? There's no way that they were gonna turn him in to Sheriff Magnezone, much less take him in a battle. Just the thought of that made him laugh.

"Hehe. Ahahaha! You're joking, right?" He asked. "You two… are gonna turn me in? If you're already out of breath just trying to catch up to me, what makes you think you can do well against me in a fight? Do yourselves a favor and go home to your mommies or whatever."

He then grabbed the sack he put down and began walking into Drenched Bluff, taunting the pair all the while. "Catch me if you can, kiddos! Hahaha!" The Sneasel then disappeared into the dungeon.

"H-Hey! Get back here!" Dratini said exhaustingly. "Come on Charmander, we gotta go after him! If he finds the exit and makes it out, we'll never be able to catch him!"

It didn't take much long for the two of them to finally catch their breaths, but now's not the time to rest. They've wasted enough time as it is, and it wouldn't look good on them if they were to fail their first mission. The two Pokémon looked at each before stepping into the entrance to the dungeon with fire in their eyes. They've got a Sneasel to catch, after all.

"You're right, Dratini," Charmander exclaimed. "Plus, Drenched Bluff is supposedly one of the easiest dungeons to go through. All we gotta do is find, battle and capture Sneasel… How hard can it be?"

Drenched Bluff Mystery Dungeon

Despite wanting to form a team themselves and go on missions, Charmander and Dratini have never actually been inside of a Mystery Dungeon. They might've read a lot about them for when they take the guild's entrance exam, but entering one themselves was something else entirely. These dungeons have been a part of Pokétopia since the beginning of time, yet no one has been able to uncover the secret as to how they came to be and how they truly work. How their paths morph and change with each visit, how common or rare items and berries spawn randomly, and how it's environment can slowly turn a sane Pokémon feral if they spend too much time in them. Nobody knows the answer to these questions, which is why they're called Mystery Dungeons to begin with. And speaking of ferals…

"Shellos!" *PLOP*

"AGH! AHH! GET IT OFF! GET IT OFF, GET IT OFF, GET IT OFF!"

Just minutes after the pair began trekking through Drenched Bluff, a feral Shellos just so happened to be attached to Charmander's face trying to attack him, with the Lizard Pokémon trying desperately to remove it.

"Get it off, get it off, get it off, get it off, get it off, get it off, get it off!" Charmander cried while he ran around, flailing his arms. "Dratini, help me!"

Now realizing that they were now in the dungeon, Dratini went to calm down his best friend so he could get the feral Shellos off of him.

"Okay, Charmander… Calm down," Dratini told the Lizard Pokémon, with him doing just that to the best of his abilities. "Don't. Move."

Charmander stayed as motionless as he could as Dratini reeled his tail back and swung at the Shellos, knocking it away. The shellos then flopped on the ground and turned to hiss at the pair before scurrying away into the forest around them.

"You okay?" Dratini asked.

"*Sigh* Thanks buddy," Charmander said gratefully. "*Shudders* I hate feral Shellos."

"That makes two of us. Now then…"

Throughout the whole time they've known each other, Dratini has always been more cautious and level-headed compared to his best friend, as he would always plan ahead and use logic to solve his problems. Like a true Dragon-type, he would prioritize the safety and well-being of those he cared about above anything else, especially Charmander. As much of a handful he can be at times, he still considers Dratini as his best friend and even brother, despite not being a Dragon-type himself. It is believed that a Dragon-type such as Dratini has the potential to rival even a Legendary's power once they've found their true purpose in life, more-so since his species are considered Pseudo-Legendaries when they fully evolve. Whether that be to travel alongside his best friend as the next big Rescue Team, or something completely different, Dratini is willing to do what's right by the code he and fellow Dragon-types alike have been following for generations.

As Charmander regained his composure, Dratini looked around to inspect their surroundings. Despite the somewhat dampy pathways, thick forests, and ferals appearing at almost every turn, Drenched Bluff is a relatively easy dungeon to travel through, as Charmander mentioned before. However, they're going to have to be extra careful since they don't have any of the standard supplies rescue teams get at the market. That means avoiding as many feral Pokémon as possible and hoping luck is on their side when looking for items. It's not the best way to go about it, but like Gallade said, they'll have to make due with what they have.

Dratini then spoke up. "Okay… we don't know what could be lurking around this place, and Sneasel is pretty far in. We'll have to stick to the main path and pick up any items that could help us in fighting him. We also don't want to exhaust ourselves, either."

"Right," Charmander agreed. "Well then, let's get going! That Sneasel guy won't know what hit him!" He then took off further along the main path, making Dratini sweatdrop.

"And to think he was out of breath a minute ago," he sighed before following him. "Hey, wait up! We don't exactly have a map to lead us!"

"We'll figure it out as we go, Dratini! What's the worst that could happ-WHAA!" Charmander screamed.

It was at that moment that Charmander almost got hit with a Water Gun out of nowhere. As Dratini caught up to him, they realized that they were now being ambushed and surrounded by a group of feral Chingling, Anorith, Lileep, and Shellos. Leading the group was the Shellos from earlier, still angry at the pair for intruding on their territory and for swatting it off of Charmander's face. Dratini then looked at Charmander with a somewhat irritated expression.

"You just had to say that, didn't you?" Dratini asked sarcastically. "No doubt they heard your screaming from earlier."

Charmander chuckled nervously while raising a claw behind his head. "Well, water-types are my major weakness, heh heh. Sorry about that."

Charmander, despite his best intentions at heart, is far from having the heart of a true Fire-type. Coming from a family of pure-blooded Charizards, it's no surprise that he has inherited their prideful and impulsive nature. Instead of planning things ahead like his best friend, he prefers to get the job done as soon as possible by taking the situation head on. Thanks to this, he would sometimes bite off more than he could chew, leading him to rely on Dratini to bail him out of sticky situations. Yet despite having a quirky and eager-beaver attitude, his fighting spirit more than makes up for it. Sure, he might seem like a goofball at times, but his heart's in the right place, and like the flame on his tail, he'll always give it his all to keep on blazing.

*That is… if he can keep his eagerness in check.*

"Lileep!" exclaimed one of the ferals, catching the pair's attention.

"Shellos! Shel, Shellos!" added another feral.

There were now a total of 12 feral pokemon surrounding Charmander and Dratini. Sure, feral pokemon in most dungeons are relatively weak and easy to handle… if they were on their own or in pairs, that is. But this is what is commonly known as a Monster House, when an entire group of them ambush an unsuspecting Pokémon traveling through their territory. Just what these two needed.

"Uhh, you don't think they'll leave us alone if we say 'sorry,' right?" Charmander asked nervously.

"They're ferals dude, they can't understand us," Dratini replied. "And even if they did, we're in their territory as far as they know. No way they'll let us go without a fight."

Right as he said that, an Anorith charged toward Dratini with Fury Cutter and a Lileep launched an Acid attack at Charmander, with the two barely dodging both attacks.

"Ahh! Charmander, run for it!" Dratini cried as he took the opportunity to dodge and slither away.

"Woah! W-Wait up!" Charmander exclaimed as he followed close behind, doing the same.

The two took off running further into the dungeon, with the Monster House following close behind. So much for conserving their stamina, now they'll have to find a way to get these Pokémon off their tails.

"Shel-los!" yelled a feral as it launched a Water Gun at them, with its fellow comrades launching their own ranged attacks.

"*FOOM!* Ah! *SWOOSH!* Wah!" Charmander exclaimed as he dodge the oncoming attacks.

"Don't stop, Charmander! We'll figure something out!" Dratini yelled.

While Dratini and Charmander ran as fast as they could, they still weren't able to outrun the Monster House. Ferals such as these can't run very fast, but the pair haven't fully recovered from their run from earlier, making it easier for the Monster House to catch up and attack them. So all they could do is run and dodge for now, although that strategy may not last very long as their exhaustion is once again catching up to them.

"*Pant* *Pant* No good… They're catching up, we're gonna have to stop and fight them! *Pant*" Charmander proposed.

"Are you crazy?!" Dratini countered. "The only reason we're not lunch meat for them is because they haven't caught us yet. *Pant* Keep running or we're both goners!"

As the ferals began to close in on them, Dratini turned to look at Charmander as an idea popped in his head. "Hey, hold on a second! Okay, we may not be able to fight them all head on, but we're not going down yet! I have an idea… *Pant* Do you remember how to do our 'special move?'"

Charmander widened his eyes and looked at Dratini with a large grin. "Are you kidding? *Pant* Of course I do! It's not like we practiced it like every other week. *Pant*"

"Then get ready. When I say 'three,' you know what to do. We don't have time to waste so long as Sneasel is still on the run, so let's make this quick."

"Right! Ready when you are."

The pair then came to a stop and turned to face the oncoming Monster House. The Monster House paid no attention as to why they stopped and pressed onwards, unaware of what they're about to do.

"On three. One… Two… Three!"

Dratini then leaped high into the air to move in a swift and circular motion, while Charmander tapped his chest a couple of times and took a deep breath.

"Here goes! Twister…"

"Plus Flamethrower…"

As Charmander was unleashing his Flamethrower, Dratini moved so fast through the air that he created and launched a little cyclone and launched it so that the two attacks met each other. The two attacks then met each other, and instead of producing a struggle, they combined to form a little fire tornado, with both Charmander and Dratini inside the cyclone. This was what they were referring to when they meant 'special move,' a move in which they spent a hefty amount of their free time practicing…

"Go, Infernal Vortex!" The two Pokémon shouted.

As the fiery tornado finally took shape and flared about with Charmander and Dratini inside, all of the ferals around it tried to run, scurry away, or fight. It proved to be too large for them, as some tried to douse it out with Water Guns and Bubble Beams, all to no avail. It was also too fast for them to move out of the way, and its force was too strong for them to escape, as they were all eventually sucked in. A few seconds after the entire Monster House got lost in the flames, the tornado collapsed and launched every Pokémon away, with the exception of Charmander and Dratini. The two landed on the ground in a flashy manner as every feral crashed into the ground in front of them, with the pair stumbling a little due to all that spinning. The surrounding ferals were all about to get back up for round two, when they were suddenly stopped in their tracks by Charmander and Dratini's intimidating glares.

The two then took a step forward as a way to say "don't mess with us," with all the ferals clearly getting the message. They all then scurried and crawled away into the bushes hissing and crying their names in fear, disappearing into the dungeon. The pair then nearly collapsed on the ground out of exhaustion, but were still standing.

"That's right! *Pant* You better run!" Charmander shouted.

"*Sigh* Guess that takes care of that," Dratini said exhaustingly. "Alright, enough messing around. Let's take a little break for a few minutes and get moving. The sooner we find Sneasel, the better our chances."

"Right. A break sounds good," Charmander replied.

The two then took a few minutes to catch their breath before continuing their trek through Drenched Bluff. After they've had enough rest, they nodded at each other and traversed further into the damp forests of the dungeon, being sure to stick to the main path while looking for Sneasel.

Over an hour has passed to the pair's knowledge, and despite not having a map to properly navigate the dungeon and going at a considerably slow pace, Charmander and Dratini were surprisingly making good time. They still kept a lookout for any more ferals and Sneasel himself, as well as any littered items that could prove useful in the upcoming fight. So far, they've managed to collect a couple of apples to satisfy their hunger, a Corsola Twig for some extra fire-power, and a Quick Seed to give one of them a speed boost when they need to. They had to tussle with a feral or two to get some of them, but it wasn't anything they couldn't handle. One good Flamethrower from Charmander or Dragon Breath from Dratini was all it took to either scare them off or render them unconscious.

When taking another quick break to eat their apples, Charmander asked Dratini why they were going at the pace that they were. The Dragon Pokémon then stated that while they were being cautious in conserving their stamina, Sneasel might not be as smart to do so. He took off running when entering Drenched Bluff, so it would be likely that he would get tired very quickly, especially if he encountered feral Pokémon blocking his path. If that Monster House earlier was any indication, who's to say that Sneasel didn't get caught in one himself, or at least tussle and fight with a few of them every so often? If that were the case, then he would be weak enough for them to knock him out and bring him back to Treasure Town. Then again, he did steal a bunch of items from the guild, so he could use that to recover his strength.

Speaking of ferals, although the majority of feral Pokémon that live in Mystery Dungeons were born and raised inside of them, there are a few of them who aren't so lucky. In fact, those "civilized" Pokémon unfortunate enough to stay in one for too long, or Arceus forbid get lost or trapped in one, succumb to the dungeon's harsh atmosphere. Ever since Mystery Dungeons began appearing in Pokétopia in ancient times, they always remenated a sort of negative aura, causing the Pokémon who reside in them to revert to a primal state of instinct. For that reason alone is why Rescue Teams and Guilds make it mandatory to have at least 2-3 members when entering these dungeons, so that they constantly look after each other and take care not to lose sense of who they are.

While the effects of a Mystery Dungeon does take a toll on a Pokémon's mind and morph their instincts, that doesn't mean that they're completely hopeless. As time went along, numerous Psychic-Type Pokémon took up therapy and medical practices to help them break away from their former feral lifestyle. It's been proven countless times throughout history that it is possible for a feral to become "civilized," however the process is rather slow depending on a number of factors. The feral in question, their typing, their nature, even their stage of evolution all play a part in determining how much therapy one would need in order to live amongst other civilized Pokémon. In fact, many of Pokétopia's great therapists and doctors have shown that helping an infant feral become "civilized" is significantly easier than doing the same to one that is full-grown due to the difference in their brain development.

However, there is the sad reality that not all ferals can be saved. Despite the many successful conversions throughout Pokétopia's history, there have been times where one particular Pokémon has become too far gone. This leads to the feral either being released back into the wilderness of the Mystery Dungeon from whence they came… or being left to a much worse fate; death. Depending on how dangerous a certain feral, or group of ferals, could be when in or near a public setting, town and city officials would have no choice but to put them down and harvest them either for food or materials. Of course, not one native feral or Pokémon-turned-feral is the same, so therapists and doctors monitor them on a case-by-case basis and pay close attention to how they respond to sudden changes.

At this point in time, Charmander and Dratini were taught that they were to engage in battle with feral Pokémon only if it was absolutely necessary. Otherwise, they should apply the "don't bother them so they won't bother us" principle and leave them be. They were also taught not to take on every one they see, either. Even though Pokémon get stronger and evolve with each fight they take part in, whether it be a win, loss, or draw, what would be the point if they incapacitate themselves in the process, or worse? "Work smart, not hard," their parents would often tell them.

The atmosphere of Drenched Bluff grew quiet as Charmander and Dratini moved along, the two remaining diligent the whole way. Or at least, one of them remained diligent, as the other tried to occupy himself with a one-sided game of "I Spy." When he got bored of that, he decided to engage his best friend in small talk to pass the time.

"Hey Dratini?" asked Charmander.

"What is it?" Dratini replied.

"We've never really decided on a team name, haven't we?"

"What do you mean?"

The two then came across a small bridge hanging over a stream. "I mean, as far as we know… we're just 'Charmander and Dratini,' and we're officially a rescue team, right?" he asked as they crossed the bridge.

"I don't know about that, considering that we never passed the entrance exam or went through the official process." Dratini stated in a matter-of-fact tone.

"But Gallade told us that we're now members of his guild. He touched our shoulders with his blade and gave us a mission briefing and everything!" Charmander exclaimed. "So that means we're an official team, and all good teams have catchy team names. Maybe something like… Team C & D! No wait, that's too simple."

"Well, you do have a point… as in 'Gallade technically made us guild members,' not the 'Team C & D' name."

"Well what about… 'Team Drat & Char?'"

"You cannot be serious, Charmander." Dratini said in bewilderment after swatting a hanging tree branch out of the way.

"Yeah, you're right, that just sounds terrible," Charmander relented. "Ooh! Ooh! I got it! 'Team Dragon Flame!' You represent the 'Dragon,' and I represent the 'Flame!'"

"You are actually doing this right now," Dratini deadpanned.

"What? Too corny? Actually, yeah, you're right. Man, this is harder than I thought. What about-"

"Look, we can think of a catchy team name after we've apprehended Sneasel and return the stuff he stole," Dratini interrupted. "What matters now is that we focus on the current task at hand. If what you say is true and we already are officially working for the guild, that's all the more reason as to why we can't fail here. This would be considered our first mission, so we should treat it as such and handle it like a proper rescue team… albeit without much of the essential supplies."

Charmander shakes his head to regain his focus. "You're right. Gallade did say that he was counting on us."

"Exactly," Dratini agreed as he looked up at the sky past the trees. "It's hard to tell with all of these trees blocking the sky, but I think the sun should be setting really soon as well. Those apples aren't gonna keep us from going hungry for long."

Just as Dratini said that, Charmander's stomach started to growl. "Ugh… Please don't go on about food again, you're gonna make me feel hungry again."

"Err, right," Dratini sweatdropped.

A brief silence followed before Charmander asked Dratini another question.

"Hey uh, just out of curiosity…" he engaged.

"Yeah? What's up?"

"Kind of a dumb question, but did you leave our money pouch back with Gallade, by any chance?"

"I mean… duh? I don't want Sneasel to steal any more than he already has," Dratini answered.

"Okay, just wondering. I was actually thinking that if you brought it along, we could've used it as a weapon to knock Sneasel's block off!" Charmander proposed as he pretended to swing at the air. "Just imagine the irony in it; Sneasel getting beaten and knocked out a bag of money, the one thing he came to steal!"

Dratini then chuckled at the image. "Hahaha. Not gonna lie, that is pretty funny. Although since this is Sneasel we're talking about, I'd say it's fitting for a guy like him."

As the two laughed and talked a bit more, they continued their trek throughout the dungeon for what seemed like another hour. So far, the only other items they managed to come across were a couple of Plain Seeds, to which the pair quickly consumed to sedate their hunger even more, and a Geo Pebble to help in dealing with Sneasel. No other apples or food items for them to pick and surprisingly, no other ferals either, leading the pair to suspect that Sneasel may have run into a few as well. It wasn't long until they finally reached a fairly large clearing leading towards the exit, signifying the end of the dungeon. Instead of leaving, however, they searched all around trying to look for the Dark/Ice-type, only to find nothing but trees and bushes.

"No, no no, NO!" exclaimed Dratini. "Don't tell me we lost him!"

"Aww, seriously?!" Charmander yelled as he angrily crossed his arms. "Now what do we do? We can't just go back to Gallade empty-handed."

Dratini was about to vent his frustration onto a nearby bush, but managed to stay calm regardless of their predicament. "Rhaa! I just don't understand! Sure, Sneasels are known to be fast and agile, but that bag he had must've weighed a lot. There's no way he could've ran through this whole dungeon that quickly, not without taking a break or running into ferals like we did, at least!"

Charmander then walked towards Dratini with a thoughtful expression on his face. "Well… do you think he got lost trying to find the exit? Maybe he's still in there and it's only a matter of time until he shows up here!"

Dratini turned to face Charmander to see his best friend still in high spirits. "And besides, even if he doesn't show up, he couldn't have gotten very far. The landscape outside of Drenched Bluff is pretty open, so we would have no problem tracking him down! He would also probably be out of breath just like you said." Charmander then closed his eyes and smiled even wider. "So don't be so glum, chum. We still got this!"

Upon hearing his words of encouragement, Dratini's mood seemed to have lightened up a little. Charmander was right, there's still hope for them on this mission. He then straightened his act and looked at his best friend with newfound determination.

"Heh, you always know how to cheer me up, Char," he said.

"Ahh, that's how I roll. What would you do without me, best buddy?" Charmander replied while scratching his nose.

"I dunno… Thanks." Dratini formed the tip of his tail into a ball and pointed it at Charmander.

He then formed a fist and pointed it at Dratini. "Anytime, dude. Anytime," he said as they fist/tail-bumped each other. "Alright then… How much do you wanna bet that he's already left this place?"

"I don't know," Dratini replied, rubbing his chin in thought. "I think our best bet is to step out of this place and scout out the landscape for any signs of him. We could also search for tracks to give us a hint on where he's headed-

*Rustle* *Rustle*

The two quickly turned their heads towards the sound. Was it Sneasel? Was it another feral, or a group of them? They straightened their stances to prepare themselves for battle, as they would get their answer soon enough. Tension then filled the air as the rustling grew louder with each second. Suddenly, a large object lept out of the bush they were staring at and plopped a few feet in front of them.

"That's… That's the bag Sneasel was carrying," Charmander said. "So that means-"

"WATCH OUT!" Dratini screamed as he pushed him out of the way of an oncoming Ice Beam, which then hit a nearby tree instead. Luckily, no one got hit, but it was rather close as Dratini reacted just in the nick of time.

The pair then stood up and saw Sneasel standing near the exit with his claws out, their backs towards the bag.

"Well whaddya know, you dodged it," said Sneasel. "Of course, I made that easy for you. It wouldn't be much fun if you had kicked the bucket right away."

"Sneasel…" growled Dratini. "You've got some nerve stealing from the guild."

"Hmph. And you've got some nerve getting in my way," Sneasel quipped. "I was having a pretty good day today, so out of the kindness of my heart, I'll make you a deal." He smirked as he pointed towards the bag behind them. "You calmly hand over my prize, and I'll let you kids walk away without too much damage. How's that sound?"

"You really think that we'd take your word, of all Pokémon?! You're one of Treasure Town's most wanted outlaws for crying out loud!" Dratini declared.

Sneasel laughed at the Dragon Pokémon's bravado. "Well don't say I didn't give you a chance," he said as he extended his claws. "You two better pray that you'll last long against me, because I will make sure your 'guildmaster' won't be able to recognize you by the time he finds you."

Charmander then spoke up against the Dark/Ice-type. "HA! We're not afraid of you! Do you have any idea who we are?!"

"Should I…? Sneasel said, raising an eyebrow.

"Heh, we're Treasure Town's newest Rescue Team… TSM!" He declared while raising a fist.

"…"

Both Dratini and Sneasel were dumbfounded at Charmander's comment, as all they could do was just stare at the Flame Pokémon.

"What? It stands for Team Super 'Mons. It's poetic, has a nice ring to it, and it sounds pretty cool."

"...We might need to workshop that name a little," Dratini replied while sweat dropping.

"Alright, that's it, enough!" Sneasel shouted impatiently. "I don't care who you are or what guild you work for, you are not going to mess this up for me! Now hand over my bag or else!"

Charmander and Dratini flinched at Sneasel's warning as he prepared to attack, but they stood their ground despite that. No backing out now. Either they beat him right here and now, or they fail trying. They looked to each other and nodded before looking back at Sneasel with vigor in their hearts to utter one single word.

"…No," they simultaneously said.

Sneasel's eye twitched with irritation at that. "That's too bad then… 'Cus now I'll have to show no mercy as I tear you two limb from limb!" He yelled as he charged straight towards Dratini with a Slash attack.

Reacting just in the nick of time, Dratini barely managed to dodge Sneasel with Charmander launching a counter-attack with Metal Claw. Since Dragon-types are severely weak to Ice-types, even more so in their pre-evolved state, he'll have to be extra careful in this fight to take as little damage as possible. Since Charmander has the type advantage, he'll be relying on him to take Sneasel head on.

Charmander is putting up a fight in matching Sneasel's relentless slashes, but it is clear as to who has more fighting experience. Sneasel's attacks are gradually gaining speed with each strike, making it difficult for the Lizard Pokémon to keep up. Realizing his predicament, he looked to Dratini for any kind of help, only to see him charging up an attack of some sort. He immediately got the hint that he should hold on a little longer, however in that split-second, one of Sneasel's Slashes connects with Charmander, causing him to fall on his back.

Dratini then widened his eyes not only at the sight of Charmander getting knocked down, but because saw the opening he was looking for and reeled his head back. "Dragon Breath, haa!" Just as Sneasel was about to continue his onslaught, Dratini's attack hit its target, damaging the Dark/Ice-type and temporarily catching him off guard. Charmander then took this opportunity to fight back.

"My turn. Flamethrower!"

The flames hit their mark, and Sneasel yelled out in pain as the super-effective move sent him crashing a few feet away from them. Dratini quickly went over to Charmander and helped him back on his feet, and the pair simply stared at the dust cloud over where Sneasel was.

"Did that do it?" Charmander asked.

It wasn't long as a silhouette of Sneasel could be seen standing through the smoke. With a swing of his arms, he dispersed the cloud and stared at the pair with narrowed eyes. Looks like he's not done just yet.

"Gotta admit you two… that hurt," he cockily said as he rubbed his shoulder. "Maybe I'll get a kick outta this after all."

"We're just getting started, Sneasel! If you thought that hurt, then you haven't felt anything yet!" Dratini proclaimed as Charmander took action.

"One more time, Flamethrower!"

Sneasel merely stared down the oncoming flames, making no effort to dodge them. Just as they were about to hit, he disappeared from view and left the pair hastily looking around.

"What the-?! Where did he go?" asked Charmander. He then got his answer right after as Sneasel suddenly appeared right in front of him.

"Neither have you. Fury Swipes!" Sneasel shouted as he attacked Charmander with reckless abandon, the Lizard Pokémon screaming in pain. Dratini then rushed towards Sneasel to try and wrap Sneasel and constrict his movements and provide aid to his friend, but the Dark/Ice-type saw him coming. He stopped his assault to dodge Dratini, and as the Dragon Pokémon missed, Sneasel charged up another attack with the intent of incapacitating his foe. "Worry about yourself first, runt! Now taste my Ice Punch!"

*SMACK!* "AGHHH!" Dratini cried out as he got sent flying and crashed into the ground.

"Dratini! *Grunt* You're gonna pay for that, Sneasel!" Charmander declared as he got back up and readied up a Metal Claw. Sneasel stared at him with a smirk on his face and brought his arm up, taunting at the Fire-type to come at him.

"Then by all means, bring it on, Candlelight!" he taunted as he did the same. The two then charged at each other for another round of claw swipes and strikes, however unbeknownst to Sneasel, something was off. As their attacks were about to meet once again, time slowed down as Charmander smirked and a sound could be heard.

*Crunch!* *Gulp!*

In that very moment, Charmander sped out of Sneasel's path causing the Dark/Ice-type to go confused, allowing Charmander to circle around him and strike him from behind with the Geo Pebble. Sneasel recoiled and held his back in pain while staring angrily at his opponent.

"*Hiss* Lucky shot! How the hell did you get so fast?!"

"Heh. It's a good thing I found that Quick Seed earlier," Charmander said with his newfound speed.

Flashback

As Dratini was being knocked away by the Ice Punch, Charmander sneakily put the Quick Seed he'd been holding in his mouth, being careful not to accidentally chew on it. He then stood back up and faced Sneasel, looking to get back at him for hurting his friend.

Present-time

As the brief flashback ended, Charmender then surveyed his situation. "I better make this count, though. I don't know how long its effects will last, so I'll have to settle this quickly. If it's a fight Sneasel wants, then it's a fight he'll get," he thought to himself as he adjusted his stance. "Alright, time for round two! Metal Claw, let's go!"

"Tch. Do your worst! Quick Attack, come on!" Sneasel yelled.

Taking off in their own bursts of speed, the two opposing Pokémon resumed their battle. While Sneasel's Quick Attack may not be fast enough to match the Quick Seed's effects, the speed it provided does even the playing field for him. However, despite not currently being as fast as Charmander, his fighting experience makes up for it. After meeting each other in the center, they had a brief struggle as their claws scraped against each other, with neither giving an edge over the other. They then broke away and started speeding around the area, trying to land a direct hit.

Back with Dratini, he's still on the ground in pain after suffering that devastating Ice Punch. How he wasn't inflicted with its chilling effects is beyond him, considering Ice-types are a Dragon-type's second worst nightmare, the first being Fairy-types. He didn't even want to even think about that, after all, Charmander's fighting Sneasel on his own. He's gotta provide some kind of help, otherwise they'll lose for sure.

"*Grunt* Up and at 'em, Dratini. The job's not gonna finish itself," he told himself as he struggled to stand (as far as having a serpentine body goes). Once he finally did, he gave himself a quick check of his condition. Surprisingly, there were no injuries, bruises or throbbing present… just a few scratches and a massive pile of hurt. Once he was finally up, he took a moment to survey the current situation.

Sneasel and Charmander were still dashing and speeding about trying to land a good hit on each other. Both Pokémon would either block and dodge the other's attack, or they would collide and bounce off each other just to go back in again. They kept this up for a good amount of time, but one would have to give in eventually, which happened to be Charmander in this case. The Quick Seed's effects were starting to wear off, and since Quick Attack is considered a move, Sneasel can use it as many times as he needs to. They stopped their speeding as Sneasel struck Charmander yet again, this time with the Fire-type struggling to fight back due to his exhaustion. Sneasel was getting tired as well, but not as much as Charmander who was panting and sweating during their struggle.

"Heh. You're actually not half bad, kid," Sneasel told Charmander. "Too bad that you won't last much longer."

"*Grunt* *Pant* Says you! I'm just getting started!" Charmander proclaimed, his arms and legs shaking underneath him.

"Are you though? Are you really?"

"Crap…!"

Dratini went wide-eyed at the scene before him and decided to act, this time with a bit more caution.

"Dragon Breath, haa!" He yelled as he aimed at Sneasel. This caught him and Charmander's attention, causing them to break away from each other to dodge the oncoming attack, Chamander falling to a knee. This allowed him to momentarily take a breather, while Sneasel showed signs of mild exhaustion.

"HA! You missed by a mile," he pointed out as he turned to face the Dragon-type, only to find that he wasn't there. "What the-?! Where did you-"

Dratini suddenly appeared right behind Sneasel and used his body to Wrap around his arms and constrict his movement.

"Agh! Why you…! Get off me!" Sneasel shouted.

"Now, Charmander! While I got him ensnared, hurry!"

Charmander looked up and saw Dratini constricting around Sneasel as best as he could, the Dark/Ice-type trying to break free. Finally seeing an opportunity, he charged toward the two with a Metal Claw. Dratini released Sneasel from his grasp, causing him to stumble forward right into Charmander's waiting claws. Now it was his turn to deal some damage.

He slashed and clawed away at Sneasel like there was no tomorrow, and all the Dark/Ice-type could do is take it. As for Dratini, it was about time that he joined in the fun and dealt some damage of his own. He quickly distanced himself away from Sneasel and reeled his head back.

"Let's try this one more time… Dragon Breath, ha!" He yelled. The attack hits its target right in his back, causing Sneasel to scream in pain. Charmander then stopped his onslaught and positioned away so he could charge back in and deal the finishing blow.

"You're finished, Sneasel!" He yelled as his mouth began to flare up in flames. "Here I come, Fire Fang!"

Right as Charmander charged forward, the Dark/Ice-type suddenly opened his eyes and looked at the approaching Fire-type not out of fear, but out of anger. Losing a fight against a Rescue Team was bad enough, but he was not going to lose to a couple of kids who just started out.

"Grr…! Don't get ahead of yourself, runts!" Sneasel shouted. Much to Charmander's surprise, Sneasel managed to power through the pain and rushed towards him, despite being pelted by Dratini's Dragon Breath. "Ice Punch!" He reeled his fist back and slugged Charmander square in the face, sending him flying. At this point, Dratini had stopped attacking out of shock of seeing Sneasel still standing. Before he can react, Sneasel dashed towards him and delivered a brutal Slash attack before chaining it with Fury Swipes. The Dragon-type reeled in pain, more so than Charmander did earlier as his species are physically fragile in their pre-evolved state. Charmander shook off the Ice Punch and saw his best friend taking a beating, so he rushed in to try to help him.

The keyword being "tried."

"Not this time, kiddos!" yelled Sneasel. He then stopped his onslaught on Dratini and quickly grabbed him by the tail.

"N-No, wait- Agh!" Right as Charmander was within range, Sneasel swung Dratini around and flinged him right into Fire-type, sending both Pokémon meters away from him. The pair slid across the open area before coming to a stop, Sneasel's stunt clearly taking its toll on them. Now filled with a new-found rage, he launched an Ice Beam directly toward the pair as they were struggling to get up. Luckily, they managed to duck and dodge it just by the skin of their teeth, causing the Dark/Ice-type to growl in frustration.

"That tears it!" Sneasel shouted angrily. "I'm done messing around now. I will personally send you two to the Distortion Realm for this!"

"*Groan* Hey Dratini… you okay?" Charmander groggily asked.

"Ughh… I'll live," Dratini replied.

"Not for much longer, you're not!" Sneasel declared, causing the two to look at him with a hint of fear. "You runts are starting to get on my last nerve with your dumb luck, as if being being handled by a couple of complete amateurs weren't embarrassing enough. So now I am going to destroy you and leave no evidence whatsoever! Do you hear me?! YOU'RE BOTH DEAD!"

Charmander flinched at Sneasel's words. "I think he's mad, now."

"Tell me something I don't know," Dratini answered. After the two stood back up, Dratini once again surveyed the situation. They've taken a considerable amount of damage from Sneasel's relentless attacks, Dratini especially given his type disadvantage against him. A few good more hits on them, and they really will be done for. However, they did manage to lay their own smackdown on Sneasel, if his rising anger was any indication. Wait, that's it!

"Okay. Charmander, I have an idea on how to beat him," Dratini proposed.

"Well, what're you waiting for? Let's hear it," said Charmander.

"We have to get him even angrier somehow, which shouldn't be too hard at this point."

"What?! Are you crazy?! We can't risk making him even more dangerous!"

"I know, but hear me out. He's definitely a hot-head at this point, despite being half Ice-type. The angrier he gets, the more mistakes he'll make in battle, and if we're careful enough, we can use that to our advantage."

"...Ahh, I think I get it now."

"And don't forget, we still have that Corsola Twig we found earlier. We'll use that on him when he least expects it, then we'll hit him with everything we got."

"What are you two whispering about over there?! If it's your last wills, then don't even bother," Sneasel yelled from across the battlefield as he readied his claws. "I'll make sure your demise will be quick and painless!"

The pair grimaced at his words, as they have recognized that they only have one shot at their plan for it to work. "Looks like he's done messing around," said Dratini. "Just stick to the plan… and please be careful."

"Heh, I should say that about you," Charmander quipped. "Now let's take this guy down in the name of Team Poké Attitude!"

Dratini deadpanned as he looked at the Fire-type with a blank expression on his face. "...Really?"

"Aw come on, you gotta admit that was a good one, right?!" Charmander justified.

"*Sigh* You are just impossible sometimes," Dratini said, rolling his eyes.

Sneasel laughed crazily, eager to tear into the two Pokémon in front of him. "Ready or not…" he said, taking a step back. "Here I come! Ice Shard!"

He readied a sharp shard of ice in his hand and rushed towards the pair with a crazed grin on his face. Dratini backed away momentarily while Charmander braced himself. Sure, he may not be at a type disadvantage like Dratini, but Sneasel's attacks still do pack a punch. He ended up dodging the Ice Shard as he leapt up into the air, with Sneasel in hot pursuit.

The Dark/Ice-type kept trying to shank Charmander mid-air with his Ice Shard, with the Fire-type hastily dodging each strike. He continued his assault when they landed back down on the ground, however Charmander still had some fight in him. Right as Sneasel was about to hit his mark, Charmander swatted away the Ice Shard and engaged Sneasel in a hand-to-hand struggle. It was at this moment that he remembered Dratini's plan to make Sneasel angry and slip up. What better way to get him angry than to insult him straight to his face?

"Y'know… *Grunt* I gotta say Sneasel, I almost feel sorry for you," Charmander taunted.

"What was that, you runt?!" Sneasel said aggressively. "Don't you even know who I am?!"

"Oh I know… I'm just not impressed. Sure, you're wanted by Treasure Town…"

"…And?"

"And… that's about it. You don't really have much going for you outside of that. It's actually kind of pathetic." Charmander added with a smirk, causing Sneasel to twitch his eye in irritation.

He then started to chuckle quietly at the Fire-type, which turned into a crazed laughter. "Heh heh. Hahahaha. Hahahahahaha!" Right as Charmander was about to ask him why he was laughing, Sneasel brought him closer until he was right in his face staring into his soul. "Ohh, you have no idea how much I'm going to enjoy tearing you apart, you arrogant little lizard," he said in a low yet harsh tone of voice. He then starts pushing his wrists forward to try and break Charmander's, before he was struck from behind by another Dragon Breath.

"Not if I have anything to say about it!" Dratini declared as he charged forward.

Sneasel saw him coming and decided to shift his priority from the Fire-type who, at best, go even with, to the 'Mon he could easily take out with one good Ice-type move; Dratini. Sneasel threw Charmander to the side and rushed towards Dratini, with the Dragon-type stopping in his tracks and doing his best to now slither away. However, Sneasel was just too fast for him, so he had to try something else.

He tumbled and dodged an oncoming Slash attack and knew that he had to improvise on his plan, seeing as though he's in no position to be spouting insults. This little game of cat and mouse kept up and about until Dratini was no longer able to keep going due to fatigue. Add on the fact that he had slipped on a random patch of ice that was struck on the ground, most probably due to one of Sneasel's earlier Ice Beams.

"Ha ha! End of the line for you, Dragon-type! Ice Shard!"

Time had slowed down as Sneasel charged toward Dratini with an Ice Shard in his hand and all Dratini could do was look at Sneasel with… narrow eyes? It was at that moment that Dratini revealed that he had the Corsola Twig hidden in his tail, and the closer Sneasel got to him, the more he realized that he had messed up.

"Here's what I think about Ice-types like you!" Dratini shouted as he threw the Corsola Twig right in Sneasel's face. The Twig made impact with its target, creating a small blast and making Sneasel scream in pain, more so when he got hit by Charmander's Flamethrower and Metal Claw earlier.

"This is it, *grunt* now's our chance!" Dratini exclaimed.

He quickly rushed back towards a stunned Sneasel, and began to circle and move around him. As he was trying to recover from that Corsola Twig, he saw Dratini using Twister to disorient him even further, despite it not being very effective due to how fatigued he had become.

"HA! You think a little wind is enough to stop me?!" Sneasel exclaimed haughtily, grasping his chest.

"NOW, CHARMANDER!" Dratini screamed, making Sneasel go wide-eyed.

"Right, on it! Flamethrower!" Charmander shouted, launching his attack.

Sneasel braced himself for the oncoming attack, however he was surprised to see that Charmander wasn't aiming at him, but at Dratini. Wait, no. He wasn't aiming at Dratini… he was aiming at the Twister attack around him. The flames began to circle around him, and it wasn't until he was completely surrounded that he realized that he played right into their hands.

"Thanks, Charmander! Now take this…!" Dratini started.

"Infernal Vortex!" He and Charmander shouted at the same time.

The fire tornado took shape, trapping and thrashing Sneasel around from within. Since he was an Ice-type, the flames did an excessive amount of damage the longer he stayed in there. At this point, all he could do is scream in agony as he was being engulfed by the pair's special move. He couldn't use an Ice-type move to form a clearing through the flames or even fight back.

After what seemed like forever, the tornado finally dispersed, with Dratini landing next to Charmander in a dizzy haze, with the Flame Pokémon looking just as out of breath as he was.

"*Pant *Pant* Did that do it?" Charmander asked exhaustingly.

Dratini remained silent as Sneasel could be seen in front of them, still on his feet while hunched over and grasping his left arm in pain.

"Ugh, give me a break," Charmander groaned.

They saw Sneasel stare at the two, seemingly motionless. If his murderous eyes were any indication, he could care less about what he stole at this point. Now, he just wanted to make these two pay in blood for humiliating him.

"Woah…*Pant* This guy doesn't know when to quit," Charmander quipped. "That's fine… neither will we, right?" He received no immediate answer and worryingly looked at his friend. "Uh, Dratini?"

"*Pant* *Pant* I'm alright…" Dratini exhaustingly replied as he was hunched over. It was pretty clear that this fight was getting the better of him, yet he still chose to press on despite that. "Just… working through the pain."

Charmander then stared at the Dark/Ice-type in both frustration and astonishment. However, the more he and Dratini stared at him, the more they began to notice that something was off about Sneasel.

"*Pant* Looks like… *Pant* we're not done with this fight yet," Charmander said exhaustingly, taking a step forward.

"Wait a sec, Char," Dratini said, holding out his tail to stop him. "Look."

It then became clear to the pair that Sneasel wasn't staring at them with murderous intent, but rather a blank stare.

"You… Y-You…" he muttered. He then let out one last gasp and collapsed face-first on the ground. Charmander and Dratini stared at the Dark/Ice-type, contemplating what just happened.

"Is… he… Did we win?" Charmander asked. "I-Is it over?"

Dratini said nothing as he cautiously approached a seemingly unconscious Sneasel to figure out whether or not he's actually down for the count. After taking a closer look, he confirmed to Charmander that he was, indeed, down and out.

"L-Looks like it, Char," he stated. "We beat him."

Charmander suddenly rushed towards his best friend and hugged him with stars in his eyes. "WOO-HOO! We did it!" He exclaimed as he began to sing to himself. "We beat him, we beat him! Way to go, best buddy!"

"Ow ow ow ow ow ow!" Dratini exclaimed, still feeling the pain from his earlier beating.

"Oh, oh… I'm sorry!" Charmander replied as he hastily put Dratini down. The two then plopped down on the ground to try and relax and recover their strength. "Still… I can't believe we actually beat him. Boy, was he tough or what?"

"*Sigh* That, he was. Am I glad that we found that Corsola Twig, otherwise we'd be toast by now."

"I'm sure we would've figured something out."

"Yeah, I guess you're right."

The two then stared at the trees above them with content smiles on their faces. They had done it, they've beaten Sneasel, stopped him from escaping, and had completed their first official mission as a Rescue Team. Well… almost completed their first official mission.

"Wait… How are we gonna get back?" Charmander asked, with Dratini going wide-eyed at the realization that they have to actually bring Sneasel in and carry the items he stole back to the guild. "If it was difficult to make it this far on our own, how are we supposed to head back with an unconscious Sneasel and bag of items in tow?"

"Ugggghhhhhh!" Dratini groaned as he dramatically face-planted on the ground.

Later…

Back in the midst of Drenched Bluff, a Raichu carrying a satchel and a couple of Magnemites wearing what appeared to be police badges can be seen running through the dungeon. They are currently on the hunt for Sneasel and, according to Mawile and Gallade, two additional Pokémon they sent to chase him down. Since time was of the essence, they didn't have time to ask them as to who they sent after Sneasel. Using a small device that functions as a map, Raichu searched throughout the Mystery Dungeon with ease thanks to him and his associates' type advantage against whatever ferals they came across.

"Have you found anything yet?" asked Raichu.

"Negative bzzt," replied one of the Magnemites, with the other giving the same response.

"Keep looking… They've gotta be around here somewhere."

"Understood," replied both Magnemites.

It was then that one of Raichu's ears twitched at a nearby rustling sound and stopped right as he heard it. He signaled the Magnemites to stop where they were and stay silent as he listened to try to find where that rustling was coming from. After a few moments, he got his response as the rustling grew louder, causing everyone to turn to their right and see a nearby bush moving. Raichu and the Magnemites took defensive positions as electricity channeled through their bodies.

"Whoever is out there, come out quietly with your hands up! Show any attempt at resistance, and we will be forced to restrain you!"

No answer came from the bushes as the rustling only grew louder, signaling to the group that it was either another feral, or Sneasel trying to pull a fast one. In any case, until they see what comes out of that bush, they will have to hold off on their joint Thunderbolt attack. The tension in the air was high as the rustling grew louder until…

"W-Wait! Hold you're… *grunt* fire!" shouted a young, masculine voice.

Slowly but surely, a Dratini came out of the bushes dragging a large white bag, before collapsing in front of the group of Electric-types.

"*Pant* *Pant* Give me a moment… *Pant* *Pant*" Dratini asked exhaustingly. "Wait… you're Deputy Raichu, aren't you?"

"A Dratini bzzt?" stated one of the Magnemites.

"State your business, Dratini. What were you doing with that-"

*CRACK!*

The Magnemites tensed up at the sound, and before they had a chance to ready up their Thunderbolts, Dratini spoke up.

"W-Wait! *Grunt*" he said as he struggled to stand. "It's my friend! We took down Sneasel… *Pant* and we're bringing him in!"

Raichu was taken aback by this claim, but maintained his professionalism to get the young Dragon-type to elaborate further. "Y-You did what?"

Before Dratini could answer him, they all heard another voice coming from the same spot he came from.

"*Grunt* Sweet… Mother of Arceus, why is he so heavy?!"

Emerging from the bushes was Charmander dragging an unconscious Sneasel by the arms, and right as he came into view, he collapsed right next to Dratini out of breath. All while this is happening, Raichu realized that what Dratini told him was true. They really did take down Sneasel all on their own, not to mention attempt to drag both him and the stolen items back to Treasure town while in a weakened state. Upon seeing the pair so exhausted, he recognized them as the Pokémon Mawile and Gallade had described. He then turns to his Magnemite teammates and gives them their orders.

"You two, take Sneasel and make sure he doesn't try any funny business," he said as they both used Magnet Rise to lift Sneasel in the air. Raichu then turned to the pair as he picked up the bag of items and offered them a paw. "C'mon, let's get you two back to town and get you fixed up. You guys took quite a beating."

Charmander and Dratini then looked relieved as Deputy Raichu helped them up. He looked towards his Magnemite officers as if to ask them if they were ready to go, which they were. He then reached into his satchel and took out an Escape Orb, before gesturing everyone to stay close in order for them to escape. Once everyone was ready, he raised the orb into the air and slammed it down. A mystical cyan aura surrounded the group before they disappeared on the spot, signifying that they have left Drenched Bluff.

Treasure Town Guild Hall Ramp

After the group had returned to Treasure Town, they met up with Gallade and Mawile who immediately contacted the guild's nurse & doctor, Audino, so she could treat the injured party appropriately, Sneasel included. Charmander and Dratini were given some Oran berries for their injuries and a few apples for their hunger, while Sneasel only received one apple and Oran berry, which was understandable since he was a wanted outlaw. While that was happening, Mawile checked the bag's contents to find that every item and Poké Sneasel had stolen was all accounted for, to which she then took back up to the guild so she could put them back in the storage room. After everyone's injuries were treated, Deputy Raichu returned along with Sheriff Magnezone himself so they could collect Sneasel and put him in the slammer where he belonged.

It is now sunset as Deputy Raichu and the two Magnemite officers had Sneasel restrained in front of the guild's ramp, with the Dark-type looking defeated, to say the least. While they were keeping an eye on him, Sheriff Magnezone was thanking Gallade for his help.

"I cannot thank you enough, Gallade," said Magnezone in a deep, metallic voice. "You don't know how much of a hard time Sneasel has given me and my officers over the past month."

"Oh, don't thank me, Magnezone," Gallade said as he looked towards Charmander and Dratini. "They are the real heroes here. If it weren't for them, Sneasel would've probably escaped to Arceus-knows-where by now."

Magnezone then turned to the pair who were looking better thanks to Audino's treatment and tilted his body towards them.

"Then allow me to show my deepest gratitude towards you two. You could've left well enough alone, yet you chose to step up and stop one of our most wanted outlaws… all without any prior experience, might I add. Thank you."

Charmander and Dratini were intimidated by Magnezone at first, but had relaxed once Gallade and Mawile reassured them that he's only doing his job as Treasure Town's Sheriff. As a Magnemite and Magneton in his younger days, he had become experienced in hunting and bringing in outlaws and criminals alike in different towns across this part of the Grass Continent. It was when he had evolved into Magnezone that he found his place in Treasure Town and eventually took the place of the previous sheriff since that one retired.

"Heh heh, it was nothing, Mr. Magnezone, sir," Charmander chuckled nervously.

"We just did what felt right," Dratini added.

Magnezone chuckled. "Nonsense! Don't undermine yourselves, you both did a fine job in apprehending Sneasel. If you two weren't working for the guild, I would've hired you as my newest recruits!"

"Don't get any ideas, Magnezone, "Gallade jokingly interrupted. "They are under my jurisdiction, being my newest Rescue Team, after all.

Charmander and Dratini went wide-eyed at Gallades words, but Magnezone kept talking with Gallade before they could say anything to him.

"Right, right, I understand. Very well then, I should be off," Magnezone said as he turned to face Sneasel, his tone going dark. "As for you, I'll make sure you carry out your sentence for years to come."

Sneasel flinched at his words but said nothing, as it wouldn't really matter at this point, especially where he was going. Magnezone bid farewell and signaled his officers to escort Sneasel back to the police station, but then he stopped right as he was about to join them.

"Oh, I almost forgot," he said, turning to face Charmander and Dratini. "I haven't given you your reward for catching Sneasel. Raichu!"

"Yes, sheriff!" Raichu replied. He then took out a small envelope and a pair of goggles out of his satchel and walked over to hand it to Charmander and Dratini. "A little something for making our jobs a little easier. A check for 15,000 Poké and a pair of Goggle Specs for your troubles. Good work, you two."

Charmander and Dratini's jaws dropped to the floor. "15,000 P-Poké split two ways…" the Fire-type muttered, before grasping his head in astonishment. "AHH! That's 7,500 Poké for each of us!"

"Charmander, we're gonna be sharing the money regardless, so why even split it?" Dratini sweatdropped. "Also, a pair of Goggle Specs? That'll make scouring the dungeon for ferals much easier! Thank you so much!"

"Please, it's the least we can do after what you've done for us. Now then, enough dilly dallying! We should be heading back." Magnezone then turned to Gallade while Raichu went back with the Magnemites and Sneasel. "Gallade…"

"I understand, Sheriff," Gallade nodded. "If we bring in any other outlaws, we'll send them your way."

The police force then said their goodbyes and began walking back to the police station with Sneasel in tow. Looks like he won't be going anywhere for a long time. As they walked off, Gallade turned to look at Charmander and Dratini doing a little celebratory handshake. He couldn't help but smile at the two of them out of pride, not just as a guildmaster… but maybe, something more. Back in his office earlier in the day, when he had searched their hearts and minds, he felt a little attachment towards him specifically. He had always treated his fellow guild members as his own family, but Charmander and Dratini were special. Maybe it was because they reminded him of their parents, and that they saw him as their non-related uncle or something. In any case, Gallade saw that his faith and trust in them was not misplaced, and that they would do many great things going forward.

As the pair finished off their long, celebratory handshake, Gallade walked up to the two of them to properly congratulate them. "It is true what Magnezone said," he stated, grabbing their attention. "You two did an outstanding job, although I could only imagine that it wasn't easy, given the circumstances. Despite it being your first mission, against an outlaw like Sneasel of all Pokémon, you managed to get the job done regardless of the obstacles. I've said it before and I'll say it again… You really are just like your parents."

"Oh, stop it," Charmander said with a slight blush. "But please, by all means, keep going."

Dratini rolled his eyes at his friend before giving him a light nudge with his tail. "I think what he meant to say, Guildmaster, was that even if you didn't ask us to help, we still would've," said Dratini, with Gallade listening intently. "For as long as we can remember, it's been our dream to join a guild, form our own Rescue Team and do some good in Pokétopia. I'm not just saying that just because our parents were in teams themselves… Call me crazy, but I think there's more to it than that. I don't know what our true calling is, if it even exists to begin with, but I think becoming a Rescue Team and going on missions is the best way to find out."

"'Helping others is the best way to help yourself,' my mom would always tell us," Charmander added. "I may not know a whole lot about things like 'true callings' or 'destiny' or stuff like that, but as long as my flame burns bright and I've got Dratini by my side… I'll always give it my 100 percent!"

RIght as Charmander finished his little declaration, he felt it again from both of them; a spark. That single spark just reminded him that he made the right choice in choosing them to join his guild. Maybe he wasn't clear enough before they left for Drenched Bluff, or maybe they thought it was just for show, but he might as well make it official for them since they were right there next to him. Although, there is one little thing that they might've forgotten.

"*Sigh* I'm glad that you two feel that way, and that mindset will be essential to your growth as individuals and as a team. Which is why I bring good news for the two of you," he said, staring at the pair. "Maybe there was a little bit of confusion at first, but I believe it's time I make it official."

"What do you mean?" Dratini asked.

"Wait, you said 'your first mission.' So that means…" Charmander stated excitedly.

Gallade chuckled at the Fire-type's realization. "That is right. It'll take a few days to get everything sorted out, but there is no doubt in my mind that you will go far in our line of work," Gallade explained as he reached a hand to both of them. "Normally, you two will have to take my entrance exam to even make me consider you joining, but I think I can make an exception after what you displayed today. You have displayed the necessary qualities needed to join, so it is my honor to officially declare you as Treasure Town's newest Rescue Team. Welcome aboard."

Charmander and Dratini looked at each other, then at Gallade's hands. Then back to each other, and back to Gallade's hands. Then forward, and back, and so on. They repeated this motion until it processed in their minds that this was actually happening, that Gallade just made them an official rescue team. Charmander eagerly shaked Gallade's hand with Dratini doing the same with his tail, and when they let go, the pair looked at each other one last time before jumping out of sheer joy.

"WHAAAA-HOOOO!" They screamed as they leapt in the air.

"I can't believe it! We actually made it in!" exclaimed Dratini as he rushed towards Charmander.

"Ha ha! Of course we did! Was there ever any doubt?" Charmander replied as he wrapped his arms around him.

They celebrated for a little while longer, jumping and dancing around before Gallade had to interrupt them.

"Alright, alright. Settle down," Gallade politely ordered, to which they did. "As much as I admire your enthusiasm, and as much as I hate to do this to you, I'm afraid I also have some bad news."

Right as he said the words "bad news," alarms started ringing in Charmander and Dratini's heads. Did they do something wrong? No, they couldn't have, they fought and brought down Sneasel for crying out loud. It wasn't long until they got an answer from their new Guildmaster.

"Even though you are your parents' sons, and even though you won't have to take an entrance exam to join, I'm afraid that favoritism or bias isn't something that I allow in my guild," Gallade sadly explained. "I expect every single one of my guild members to understand and follow the rules I've appointed, and I will not favor one Rescue Team over another regardless of their rank or success rate." He then extended a hand out towards the pair. "It pains me greatly to do this, but the reward you have received for defeating Sneasel… you can keep the Goggle Specs, but you'll have to hand over a 90% cut of your earnings."

Charmander and Dratini stood there in complete shock as their worlds suddenly began to crack until it fell apart in comedic fashion. As their surroundings shattered around them, they collapsed on the ground dramatically and were brought back to the real world.

"Whaa-ha-haaaa! 90%? Do we have to?" cried Dratini.

"Can't you at least bump it down to 85%, just this once for widdle ol' us?" Charmander pleaded as he knelt in front of Gallade with Baby-Doll Eyes.

"I'm sorry, but rules are rules and nothing you say will change that," Gallade explained, not phased by their drama. "You of all Pokémon should know that this cut goes toward your housing, your food, and all of the other privileges you receive at the guild. Not to mention that as Guildmaster, I have to make frequent donations to multiple charities across Pokétopia, as well. It stinks, yes, but believe me when I say it's all for a good cause."

When he puts it that way, Gallade does have a point. After all, a guild can't maintain itself or its members without the necessary funds. That was the major difference between working with a guild and starting a team from scratch. While both methods use similar systems when it comes to doing jobs, the administration and handling is significantly different. While you statistically earn less due to the guild's cut, you actually reach out to more clients and have easier access to certain resources, along with a graduation system where a team can receive their official Rescue Team licenses upon completion. On the other hand, if you were to start a team completely from scratch, you'll statistically earn more from completing missions and gain a similar amount of experience. However, you yourself will have to be responsible for things such as a team base, food and supplies and team management, not to mention that obtaining a license is based on how well a team actually does in the long run.

Unable to argue against their guildmaster's logic, they reluctantly hand over the check they received from Raichu over to Gallade.

"Hey, chin up you two. You did amazing today, and I expect many more amazing things from you in the near future. This is what you wanted to do, right?" Gallade asked, trying to cheer them up.

"Y-Yeah… But it sucks that we have to give away most of our money," Charmander putted, crossing his arms.

"Well, when you think about it, 90% of 15,000 comes out to 1,500 Poké, which is much more than what we have saved up," Dratini pointed out. "And besides, like Gallade said, those funds will be going to a good cause, so it's not all bad."

"Well, when you say it like that… Alright. If that's the price we pay for staying, then I guess there's nothing we can do," Charmander relented, before his tail flame flared up all of a sudden. "That still won't stop us! We'll still be the best Rescue Team ever, right?!

"Right! Plus, we'll be getting a few days to make the necessary preparations."

"That is correct. I know you've already answered this in my office, but let's make it official for the records," Gallade said as he approached Charmander and Dratini once more. "Are… you… ready? Will you answer the call to action?"

"Yes! Yes we are, Guildmaster!" The pair exclaimed.

Gallade closed his eyes and smiled with pride. "That's what I like to hear," he said as he opened his eyes to look at the pair again. "Now then… It's getting quite late. While I get all the paperwork and starter kits in order, you two take this time to do what you need to do to be ready for the next chapter of your lives. Go home and rest up, you'll be needing it for what's to come. And don't worry about your earnings, you'll receive it along with your starter kit in a few days."

"Right!" exclaimed Charmander before turning to Dratini. "Come on, Dratini! Let's get home so we can get started on those preparations!" He then took off running back towards their house on the edge of Treasure Town.

"He is quite the ball of energy, isn't he?" Gallade commented.

"Yeah but… whatcha gonna do about it?" Dratini shrugged. He then turned to face Gallade once more before leaving. "Well, I better get home then. Got a lot to prepare for. Thank you again for this opportunity, Guildmaster. We won't let you down. I promise."

Gallade wanted to correct Dratini and tell him that he didn't have to call him by his title, but after what they did for their "first day on the job," he decided to let it slide just this once and held his tongue. He then saw Dratini slither down the main path to their house, before turning to walk up the steps to the guild. As he did, he remembered his time as a young Ralts with big dreams and a passion to help others, a passion that would shape his life as he knew it. Getting to where he was now wasn't easy, after all, when is anything ever easy, but he still made it work regardless. Despite all the struggle, the hardships, and many long nights, he was one step closer to making Pokétopia a better place.

"Everyone has a purpose, whether they know it or not. It's only a matter of time until they realize what that purpose is," he mumbled to himself as he entered the guild, the gate closing behind him.

C & D: ALRIGHT!

A/N: Hey guys, Drago here! Sorry this took so long, but chapter 2 is finally out, with chapter 3 in development! First off, I just wanna give a shoutout to my Discord buddies Lamorak and Lucio for beta-reading this chapter for me and giving me their feedback. Second, I just wanna throw out there that I am going to introduce some new concepts to the Mystery Dungeon universe that doesn't exist in the official games or manga. I'll do my best to make sure that it is as accurate to those media as possible, while also adding some originality to it... like that little special move I made for Charmander and Dratini. And third, I hope you enjoyed! The next chapter will be out when it's done, as you can't rush this sort of thing or else the quality suffers. So be sure to favorite/follow the story, and leave a review on what you liked or what could be improved on. Feedback and constructive criticism is welcome, as I am still getting into the swing of story-telling. Anyways, that's all I got for now. See y'all in the next chapter. Drago, out!
