Things aren't always simple Chapter 4

Loren pulls away. "Are you crazy?"

"I'm glad you're here."

She pushes him. "Don't ever do that again!"

Eddie rolls his eyes. "C'mon cousin, she's not in the mood for you today."

He wraps his arms around Evan's shoulder and they walk out of the kitchen. Mel turns towards Loren. "What was that about?"

You could tell Loren's mortified. "I don't know, he's gone insane."

"You better talk to him; if Lucy finds out she's going to think you want to take him away from her."

"He's a friend, why he did he kiss me? He's got some explaining to do."

Eddie and Evan walk in. Katy turns. "It's about time, where is the sauce?" She rolls her eyes and starts to walk back into the house.

"Sorry mom, Evan ran into his girl back there, and he forgot."

"What's your girl doing in the kitchen? I asked for the sauce."

Katy continues onto the kitchen. "We need more sauce."

She picks up the bowl and hands it to her. "You should have told one of the waiters."

"They're busy, Evan offered to come and get it."

"He was in here, he left with Eddie."

Loren's getting the dessert plates ready. "He said Evan's girl was in here."

Mel nods. "No, she's not."

Katy takes the bowl back outside. Loren starts to cut pieces of pie and places them on a plate. "You ok Lo?"

"No, I'm still trying to figure out what Evan did."

"You can talk to him later; let me get the ice cream ready."

The waiters pick up the dishes and place them on a cart. "Please tell Mel we're ready for dessert."

"Yes ma'am."

Kevin sits by Eddie and Evan. "Did I hear you say Evan's girl was in the kitchen?"

Evan sighs, he doesn't want to have to explain anything to his uncle and cousin, he knows Lucy's out to hurt Loren, he wants no part of it, he loves Lucy, he's willing to do anything to keep her happy, reason why he kissed Loren when he saw Eddie walk into the kitchen.

"Yeah, she's a huge flirt, a trouble maker." Eddie says looking towards Evan who's sitting with his head slightly down.

"Why do you let her treat you like that?"

Kevin interrupts. "What does she do?"

"I met her when I showed up at their prom two years ago, she started coming on to me right in front of Evan."

Kevin smiles. "You're kidding?"

"No, I'm serious; she's dating my cousin and flirts with me."

He looks at Evan. "You let her do that?"

Evan nods. "She means no harm; she loves to show everyone she's friendly, you can't hate her for that."

Eddie sits back. "What she does isn't friendly cuz, every time I see her she flirts with me, she's not playing, you kissed her in the kitchen, and she acted like you were hurting her, you saw how she looked at you, I don't hate her, I hate how she treats you!"

Kevin's eyes widen. "What! She's here?"

"Mom hired someone to serve the food, she's here."

"You mean Loren?" Kevin asks.

Eddie answers immediately. "Yes Loren, she's in the kitchen."

"It can't be, I met her, she's very sweet, I know a bad girl when I see one."

"Don't let her deceive you; she's not what she seems."

"I don't know who you're talking about, the Loren I met isn't the girl Evan's dating."

"Believe what you want too." He gets up. "Let's have dessert."

An hour later, Evan's ready to leave, he walks into the living room area where Katy's writing a check.

"Aunt Katy, I've got to go, I did mingle."

"I saw that, listen Eddie said your girl was in the kitchen earlier?"

Evan can feel his breathing getting shallow. "She stopped by Aunt Katy, that's it."

"Why didn't you invite her in? We'd love to meet her."

He sighs. "I know; I promise to bring her soon."

He kisses his aunt on the cheek, and leaves, Katy walks back into the kitchen and hands Mel the check.

"You did an outstanding job, I will call you next time I need catering, leave some of your cards for my friends."

"That would be great Katy!"

"Mel was Evan's girlfriend here today?"

"No, Lucy wasn't here."

"Lucy's her name? I finally get a name; I swear Evan said she stopped by."

"Maybe he saw her outside, Loren and I were in the kitchen the whole time."

"Eddie said she was here."

Mel turns and sees Loren placing them in bags, she turns towards Katy again. "He's dating Loren's twin, Lucy."

Katy's eyes widen. "Are you serious?"

Mel smiled. "Yes."

"I can't picture Loren with a twin sister."

"Wait til you meet her, she's the opposite of Loren."

Katy has to know. "What's the difference? Evan seems to be very much in love with Lucy."

"How, I don't know."

"Identical twins I assume?"

"Yes, when you meet Lucy, you'll see the difference right away."

Loren walks back into the kitchen. "We're set to go Mel."

Katy gets up. "I heard your sister is dating my nephew."

"Yes, and I'm sorry." She sighs.

"Why are you sorry?"

"The story of my life is long and sad Katy, I'll tell you all about it one day."

"Thanks for helping Mel; it was nice meeting you two."

"Same here." Mel picks up two of the bags, Loren's going to pick up the other two when Kevin walks in.

"The food was amazing."

Mel smiles, Kevin gets closer. "Thanks, I appreciate the compliment."

"Let me help you ladies."

He picks up the entire bags. "It's ok Loren, I can handle it."

He smiles and makes eye contact with her. "I insist; it gives me a chance to talk to you again."

Loren waves at Katy, both girls walk out followed by Kevin. They get into Mel's car. "Loren, I hear you're dating my nephew Evan?" Loren's about to take a sip of water.

She almost chokes. "What? No, he's dating my sister."

Kevin furrows his eyes brows. "Your sister?"

Mel laughs. "Loren has a twin; Evan is dating her twin sister Lucy, why is everyone so shocked?"

"Wait a minute, why does Eddie think it's you who's dating Evan?"

Loren bites her lower lip. "I don't know, what gave him that impression?"

Kevin smiles. "It's a mix up I guess, hope to see you again Loren."

She smiles and removes her hand from his grip. "We'll see."

Mel finally closes the trunk of her car and gets in. "Thanks for the help Kevin."

Loren jumps in and they drive away. "What was that about?"

"I don't know; I'm wondering if Eddie's been nasty with me because he thinks I'm Lucy."

"Oh my God, that could be it, you saw her on prom, I'm sure she's bugging Evan to bring her along when he sees Eddie."

"What other reason is there for him to hate me so much?"

"I don't think he hates you Lo, you better ask Lucy when you see her!"

"When I see her, I hardly see her since we moved out."

"You have to get to the bottom of this."

"I know, it's not so simple, Lucy has a way of making me feel bad, she's mean, I don't understand why she changed so much."

Mel arrives at their place; she puts the car on Park and turns towards her. "It's time you stand up to her, why was everyone under the impression you're dating Evan."

Loren stops. "Oh god, is that why he kissed me?"

"You mean Evan?"

"Yes Evan, do you think he thought I was Lucy?"

Mel folds her hands into a fist. "That better not be the reason, if he thinks Lucy treats him mean, he hasn't seen that side of me yet."

They exit the car and unload their supplies, they place everything back in its place

A few days later, Loren stops by see Nana's with Mel, they need a recipe for a dish Mel wants to make.

"Ahhh my Lorenita is here."

"Hi Nana, I've missed you." She hugs her.

"We miss you more, Nora is very sad now that you're gone."

"You still have Lucy."

Mel laughs. "Oops sorry Nana, we know she's a pain in the butt."

Lorena holds her face with her two hands and mumbles something. Loren walks towards her. "Is everything ok?"

Lorena doesn't say anything; she holds back tears. "What's wrong Nana?"

"I asked Lucy to leave, she's made Nora cry."

"Why?"

Mel clinches her teeth. "What? Why?"

Lorena sits. "What's going on?"

"She's worse than ever, she has this modeling job with Chic Jeans and she waltzes in here at all hours of the night, making noises and fighting with Evan, I don't know why he allows her to treat him like that? Nora told her to stop, she had to respect this house, she screamed at Nora, she almost slapped her."

"Oh no Nana, she can't stay here anymore, I'm sorry you're going to through this."

"I know Lorenita, she's supposed to stop by today and get her things."

Mel hears a car outside the house. "The witch of the west arrived."

Lucy walks in, she sees Loren and Mel and rolls her eyes. "What are you doing here?"

"I'm visiting with Nana, are you here to get your things?" Loren asks.

She walks into her bedroom and Loren trails behind her. "Why are you behaving like this with Nana and Aunt Nora?"

"Awww did Nana tell on me? I'm not a kid anymore." She smirks.

"You have to respect them, why are you doing this?"

"I'm fine, I'm leaving, Evan got me this amazing Condo, I'm going to be living pretty close to Eddie."

Loren walks closer to her while she places some of her clothes in a suitcase. "Listen why does everyone think I'm dating Evan?"

Lucy looks at her sister; she grabs her by the arm and pulls where she can stand in front of the mirror. "Look, we're twins; could that be the reason why they're confused?"

"Maybe they don't know we're twins, Eddie's been mad at me, you did something didn't you?"

"Poor little Loren, her boyfriend Eddie Duran doesn't like her, is that my problem?"

"You tell me? Mel catered a party for the Duran's, I helped her."

Lucy looks at Loren. "And?"

"Evan walked into the kitchen and kissed me, he called me babe! What's going on?"

She shrugs her shoulders. "He probably thought it was me."

"No, he knew exactly what he was doing? Be honest for once in your life!"

Lucy takes her bags to the door. "I don't know, ask Evan, he's stupid, he gets confused easily."

"What have you done Lucy?"

Lucy lets out a sarcastic laugh. "Dear pathetic little sister, why is it my fault every time something goes wrong?"

"Because you're always up to something."

Lucy walks towards Loren; she pokes her on the arm. "Things aren't always simple in life Loren, learn to accept it, don't blame me for everything that goes wrong in your life!"

Loren pushes her away. "I'm done with you, the moment you disrespect Nana and Aunt Nora, I want nothing to do with you, I know you're up to something, I'm going to find out."

"Look I'm shaking." Lucy laughs out loud.

Evan walks in and sees Mel sitting by Loren and Lucy's grandma. "Hi, sorry to barge in, Lucy is taking too long."

Mel walks up to him. "We know what you did."

He pulls back. "What did I do?"

"You told everyone you're dating Loren; how could you do that to her?"

Evan's mortified. "Mel wait, it wasn't me, it was Lucy's idea!"

Mel's eyes widen. "Omg I knew it! Loren hurry and get out here!"

Loren and Lucy walk out. "What's wrong?" Loren asks.

Yikes! Got to love Mel, she's amazing!
