Eddie's Nightmare chapter 7
The sound of the crash is loud, the car plunged into a light pole, Eddie falls to his knees. "Evan!"
Loren and Katy stand nearby, Loren's eyes widen when she notices Lucy's on the driver side and lays unconscious, Evan flew out of the car landing on the hood. It's a scary scene, there's blood everywhere.
The sound of the siren's alarms the neighborhood, the paramedic's rush to tend to the injured, the fire department trails behind to help.
Katy holds Eddie's shoulders trying to calm him down. "He's still alive; calm down son."
Loren's in shock, the paramedic's and firemen work hard to get to Lucy and help Evan.
Eddie wonders. "What happened?"
The police approaches Eddie and Katy, Loren stands a few feet away. "Witnesses say they were arguing the female was driving, she tried to take off while the male tried to get into the car, he did and the driver sped up, she was screaming and lost control of the car, that's when she hit the pole."
Eddie sighs. "I knew she was going to do something to Evan!"
After an hour, they're taken to the nearest trauma center.
Loren's sad, she can't believe what happened, Lucy caused this disaster, Nora and Lorena walks towards her, Lorena nudges her granddaughter. "Are you ok?"
"I don't know Nana; I don't know what to think of Lucy anymore."
Katy and Max wait at the hospital, the Dr.'s rush to help Lucy and Evan. On the opposite side of the room, Loren sits with Lorena and Nora, Mel sits quietly holding Loren's hand.
The Dr. finally walks out of the room. Max and Eddie approach him. "Are you Evan's family?" He asks.
"Yes!" answers an anxious Eddie. "He's in critical condition, he sustained a serious head injury, we're headed to the OR, as soon as we know more we will talk to you, you may wait in the 4th floor." The Dr. rushes back to prepare for surgery.
Lorena walks with Loren to the nurse's station. "Is there any news on Lucy Tate?"
"The Dr. is on his way to talk to you." She responds.
The door opens, the Dr. asks for Lucy's family.
"Your sister's very fortunate she was wearing her seat belt, we placed a brace on her neck for precautions, she has a sprained ankle, some scratches on her face, she'll stay overnight for observation, you may see her in a moment."
"We're doing a few more tests." The Dr. adds.
Nora hugs Loren. "She's going to be ok."
Katy sees Loren crying and walks towards them. "Lucy will be fine."
"It's her fault Evan is in critical condition, I overheard what the Dr. said, I'm so sorry." Loren tells Katy.
"Why are you sorry? This has nothing to do with you."
"My sister was the one driving, she lost control of the car."
Eddie sits quietly, he notices his mom talking to Loren and her family. He should go and talk to them, he's very angry, he knew something like this was going to happen. Lucy's behavior around Evan, wasn't going to end well, the thought of losing his cousin upsets him.
Max brings him some coffee. "Here, we're going to be here a while."
Eddie takes it without saying a word, Max heads towards Katy who's still talking to Loren and her family, he hands them all a cup of coffee.
Mel sits by Eddie's side. "How are you doing?"
He doesn't look at her and responds. "Trying to stay positive, my cousin is fighting for his life."
"I'm sure he's going to be ok."
"What are you a Dr.?"
"I'm trying to be positive, I'm sorry."
Loren notices Eddie's upset, she debates whether to go to him, she excuses herself and makes her way towards him, Mel gets up, she whispers to Loren that he's upset.
"Eddie." She hesitates. "I'm sorry."
"It's not your fault, this is all on Lucy and no one else."
"I know, somehow I feel it's my fault."
"She's done a lot of harm, look what she did to you."
Loren notices the nurse signals her grandmother and Nora to follow her to Lucy's room, Loren sighs, she heads towards the room, it's better she leave Eddie alone, he's hurting.
Lorena, Nora and Loren walk into Lucy's room. She's yelling for a mirror.
"What's your problem?" Loren can't believe what she's doing, the nurse hands her the mirror, she snatches it from her hand and looks at herself.
"Omg, look at my face, I can't model like this!"
Lorena and Nora can't believe what they're seeing. They're shocked, Loren is speechless. "You haven't even asked about Evan, he's in critical condition."
"It's his fault, I told him to walk home, he insisted on getting into the car."
"He could die Lucy; do you realize that?"
"She rolls her eyes. "I'm sure he'll be fine, he tried to stop me from driving away, it's his fault I lost control of the car, he made me crash."
Lorena approaches her granddaughter's bed side. "I don't know you any more, what happened to you?"
"Please old lady, get a grip!"
Loren jumps in. "Don't talk to Nana that way; I'll slap you again if I have too!"
Lucy's looks at the mirror; she laughs at Loren's comment. "Whatever Loren, I need to get this contraption off my neck and go home."
Loren can't believe it, her twin's a monster, with a cold heart. She leaves the room and walks back to the waiting area, she sits in the nearest chair, still in shock with her sister's attitude, Katy sees her and sits next to her. Eddie sits quietly without saying a word.
"Is Lucy ok?"
"She's fine Katy, worried about her looks, she isn't concerned about Evan; I can't believe that's my sister in that room."
"This doesn't reflect on you, you're nothing like her!"
"She wasn't like this!"
"Where's your mom? I hope you don't mind me asking?"
She down casts her look and takes deep breath. "I don't mind, she died the day we were born, Nana and Aunt Nora raised us."
"And your Dad?"
"We don't know him, grandma doesn't talk much about him, he didn't care enough to stay with my mom, he left when she was pregnant, I don't think about him."
Katy sees pain in Loren's eyes. She gently holds her hand. "I'm sorry, you should be very proud of yourself, you're excelling in fashion designing, you were amazing."
She acknowledges Katy. "Thanks to you." She looks towards Eddie. "Is he going to be ok?"
"He will, as soon as Evan is out of danger, he's looked after Evan when he lost his father in an accident, he's Evan's big brother."
Loren smiles. "Sounds like Lucy and I, we were close, I don't know when we grew apart, I don't know what changed, Nana says she reminds her of our mom, Lucy is too extreme."
"She's a special young lady."
"Not in a good way, look what she did to me, everyone thought I was dating Evan, she made me look bad." She looks towards Eddie; Katy notices. "He knows it wasn't you Loren."
"I'm grateful for that, it was scary."
"Scary?"
"Eddie hated me when we met."
"I doubt it; he was looking out for Evan."
"I'm glad."
"You have a crush on him."
"Am I that obvious?"
"I can tell by the way you look at him."
"I'm not the first, all of his fans love him."
"You're different Loren."
Loren realizes Katy can't be fooled, she looks towards Eddie, he hasn't moved, he's quiet, he's focused on the wall, he's hurting, she wants to hold his hand and tell him Evan will be fine.
"Earth to Loren." She looks at Katie "Sorry, so much going through my head."
"Don't worry, Eddie's very strong."
"I'm sure he is, it's hard to be strong."
Katy places her arms around Loren's shoulder. "I know you're strong too, my son needs someone like you."
"No way, he'll always see Lucy when he looks at me."
"Don't say that."
"Look what happened, it's her fault Evan is in critical condition."
Max walks in with a tray of sandwiches. "Here honey, we have to eat." He looks at Loren. "You need to eat."
"Thanks Max, you're very sweet."
He smiles. "I'm going to make sure your Aunt and Grandmother eat something too."
"Don't forget about Eddie."
Loren realizes what she said, Katy looks at her husband. "Make sure Eddie has something to eat."
"He's not hungry." Max says.
Max walks over to Eddie. "Loren insists you eat."
"Thanks Pops, not hungry."
"You have to eat something; Evan is going to need your help."
"I need your help with something."
Max takes a bite from his sandwich. "Sure, you have to eat."
Eddie sighs, he's in no mood to eat, he gets a sandwich. "I'll take a bite."
"When Evan is awake, I need to make sure Lucy stays away."
"How do you propose to do that?"
"I don't know, she's off limits, I should have done this when after Prom."
"Your cousin is crazy about her."
"I don't care, look what she did to him, he's in critical condition."
"I'm sure he's aware of her behavior, your mom mentioned it last week, he wants to be in that relationship, there's really nothing you can do."
"I will think of something, I can talk to Loren, maybe she knows how we can do this."
"Don't involve Loren in this, remember that's her sister."
"Lucy came out of this with a few scratches, meanwhile my cousin is in surgery fighting for his life."
Max takes a sip of his drink. "Let's not get too ahead of ourselves, we don't know what the outcome will be, let's make sure your cousin is out of danger and recovers before you can say anything to him."
Loren and Nora walk into the waiting room. Lorena sits next to her granddaughter. "The Dr. spoke to Lucy, she can go home, any news on Evan?"
"I thought the Dr. said she had to stay overnight." Loren wonders.
"She doesn't want to stay, she seems fine, she's fighting with the nurses!"
"Any news on Evan?"
Nora interrupts. "I'm taking her to her condo; I can stay a few days with her,"
"I can't let you do that Aunt Nora; I'll stay with her."
"I'd rather stay with her Loren; I don't want her fighting with you." Nora insists.
"I'm tired of her; not going to allow her to walk all over me anymore."
"I'll see you later, let me know about Evan."
"I will." They walk to Lucy's room; they find her arguing with a nurse. "You have to wait a few days for the swelling to come down Miss Tate, before you see a plastic surgeon."
"I am a model; in case you haven't noticed; I can't work looking like this!"
Loren rolls her eyes. "Now what?"
"Look at my face! I can work like this!"
"Omg Lucy, you have a few scratches, you should be happy you're not the one in surgery."
"What do you know, I make a living with my face, you wouldn't understand." They bring a wheel chair into the room, Lucy keeps looking in the mirror.
Loren gives up, she's about to walk away when she notices the Dr. approach Eddie and his parents. Eddie holds his face with his hands and sits down, Katy is crying, Loren walks towards them.
"How's Evan?"
Katy's crying. "They don't know if he will pull through the night, he's in ICU."
"I'm sorry." Eddie stands up.
He heads towards Lucy; she's trying to cover the scratches on her face with make-up.
"If anything happens to my cousin, I'm holding you responsible."
She rolls the wheelchair towards the elevator. "Lucy you haven't apologized to the Duran's!" Lorena pleads with her granddaughter.
"He should have stayed out of the car." Nora can't believe her; she wants to get her out of there.
Eddie won't be ignored. "I'm talking to you!" He's furious.
"I heard you, it's his fault for trying to get into the car!"
Katy and Max hold his arm. "Not right now son, let's go, the Dr. said we can see Evan in a few minutes."
Loren watches with a broken heart. "We're sorry." She's Eddie's nightmare.
That makes Loren feel worse, Lucy's wheeled into the elevator by Nana and Nora, she looks at Eddie, he storms out of the area, he looks at Loren.
"Pray, he doesn't die."
Mel hugs Loren. "He's hurting, it's nothing against you."
Loren doesn't know what to do to help Eddie and his family.
