The shrill ring of the telephone drew Jack from his thoughts. He'd decided to retreat to his own base quarters whilst he figured out how to talk to Sam.

'Colonel O'Neill, Sir, i'm sorry to disturb you' the disembodied voice addressed him

'Go ahead, airman' Jack replied into his phone

'Sir, i was told to inform you if Major Carter left the mountain?' The airman said quickly

'Yes' Jack confirmed 'has she?'

'She left 10 minutes ago, Sir' The airman confirmed 'and sir, she was still wearing her base uniform - i think she left on her motorbike, she was holding her helmet'

'Thank you airman' Jack signed off the call quickly.

Base personnel were not permitted to leave the mountain in uniform, it was just one of the many security measures that had been put in place to prevent personnel being targeted inadvertently by overzealous journalists, foreign intelligence or just simply the general population - their base clothing wasn't exactly standard Air Force after all. Sam knew this and she was never one to break the rules...

'Shit' Jack cursed, the second indicator today that she wasn't coping with recent events. He had to find her.

Jack quickly changed and headed out of the mountain, he called Teal'c on his way to let him know about his concerns for Sam. Teal'c had been present during the final zatarg testing, he had heard the proclamation that both Jack and Sam had made to save their lives - Jack knew he'd fill Daniel in.

'Did Major Carter make any indication of where she was going when she left?' Jack quizzed the gate SF's.

'No sir, but she left in a hurry' The SF's grinned at each other which instantly prickled Jack's temper.

'What!' He barked at them

'Sorry sir, she's got a nice ride that's all, she kind of floored it as soon as she was out of the main gate'

'As you were' He turned on his heel and jogged towards his truck. It took him less than a minute to get out of the base carpark and on the road down the mountain. He had resolved to try her place first, he hoped that she was there.
