Bonded By Love-Ch 5
After the operation prep was ready the brothers quickly said their goodbyes to their sisters before following the nurse to the waiting room. In Dereks room after his prep was over he was able to say his goodbyes to his mom and sisters before he too was wheeled away.
Fran looked at the nurse who said, "if you will follow me I'll take you to the waiting room", they all nodded their heads and followed her up the hall. In the waiting room the brothers saw nervously waiting, wondering and hoping, hoping that their sister and Derek were both going to be alright and that this transplant would help.
Their attention turned to the door as it opened and a nurse, Maggie and three women stepped inside the room with them. Maggie smiled and thanked the nurse and then looked at the brothers and said, "this is Dereks mom and his sisters".
Payton stood up and said, "I'm Penelopes brother Payton and this is Patrick, Paul and Peter" and Fran said, "I'm Fran and these are my daughters Sarah and Desiree". they all shook hands and then sat down as Maggie filled them in on what the procedure would contain and about how long it would last.
When she was finished she looked at both worried famalies and said, "don't worry everything is going to be okay and soon you'll be able to see them". Fran looked at Maggie as she said, "you were told about the isolation for Derek right"?, Fran said, "yes we were told that he would be in isolation for a few days before we could see him".
Maggie looked at the brothers and said, "and you were told that Penelope would have to stay in the hospital probably for a few weeks and that she would have to take rejection medication for the rest of her life, correct"? Payton said, "yes, they told us everything and Penelope knows the risks and everything that she'll have to do".
After what seemed like forever they looked up to see a nurse walk into the room and motiong for Maggie, who instantly jumped up and walked over to the nurse. Everybody watched as a smile formed on her face so they knew that it was good news.
When she was done talking to the nurse she walked back over to the two families and smiled as she said, "the procedure is over and Derek and Penelope are both in their recovery rooms, where they will be for a while before they are brought back to their rooms.
Fran sighed and said, "thank you that's wonderful news", Payton said, "and how did the procedure go, do they think it was a success"?, Maggie said, "everything went according to plan so now time will tell, now we have to wait to see if her body is going to reject the marrow" causing everybody to nod their heads in agreement.
Maggie said, "is their anything else that I can do for any of you"?, Fran shook her head and said, "no, no thank you, you have been very kind Maggie and I want to thank you for taking the time to stay with us today, it meant a lot".
Payton said, "I second everything she just said, you were like an angel that was sent to us all today to keep us from falling apart". Maggie said, "thank you, thank you so much and it was my pleasure to be able to help you".
Fran looked at the girls and said, "why don't we head to the hotel and get some rest because I'm sure that you're brother is going to be sleeping for a while and since we can't see him for a few days we can get some rest and call the rest of the team and let them know how everything went".
Payton looked at his brothers and said, "we need to call it a night and go home and get some rest too, you guys know that P will pitch a fit if she finds out that we didn't go home and get some sleep" and the brothers all laughed and said, "true" in unison.
Fran, the girls and Payton and the other brothers all headed toward the elevator, as they stepped on Payton said, "it was nice to meet all of you", Fran said, "thank you and it was nice to meet you all too and hopefully we'll be seeing you again in a few days".
As the elevator doors opened and everybody stepped out they were all smiles, they were glad that the procedure was over for Derek and Penelope and now they could all hopefully get some much needed rest.
