Okay, we are jumping forward quickly in this chapter but it serves a purpose. I promise.

After his pulse isn't racing anymore Victor manages to calm his breathing again too. She said yes.
After all that chaos and drama today. He still hugs Bonnie to himself and places a soft kiss on her forehead.

"You've no idea how happy you're making me" he whispers against her ear and when he can see her shiver slightly and burrow further into his shoulder he grins,
"Let's head home," Bonnie simply replies and he can read in her eyes the missing celebrate. At least he thinks that is what the sparkle means.
The whole ride home they hold hands whenever possible. Victor still can't believe it really happened. His whole plan had been ruined but at the end of the day, he had gotten the "correct" result anyway.
Looking back over their relationship it feels a little ridiculous he'd been afraid of losing Bonnie. They'd been through so much already and still were together. She'd never had to take the responsibility for his weed gummi adventure, nor change her lifestyle. She could've walked away. But she had stayed and changed. For him.
And from now on until forever, he'd show her how much that and her mean to him.

The first thing Bonnie does when they are at home is sending Victor to take that much needed shower and then she reaches for her phone. Her mother answers the phone with a mock-serious "If you said no, I don't wanna hear about it" and therefore tells Bonnie how traditional Victor had treated this day. With tears in her eyes Bonnie calms her mom down and when Victor comes to join her on the sofa he is worried by the tears at first but quickly realizes they are tears of joy and emotion.
Bonnie's parents as well as his mother are overjoyed and have congratulated them. After a little while, multiple messages from various SWAT officers arrive and they say "Street" in unison.

But Bonnie feels the need to get serious one last time today.
"Do you even know how scared I was today..." Victor just pulls her close and hugs her to his chest. "I am so sorry for the danger you were in today. Because you were with me. I'll do everything in my power to keep you safe!"
Bonnie pulls back slightly "Thank you. But what I wanted to say was: I was scared for you. I was afraid you could be hurt."

After that little scrape with death, their life turns quiet again. Everything seems to be amazing but with Victor's job, there was always something that could go wrong.

He'd been so excited yesterday for this day off after the DEA operation but right now, lying here on his back, quiet was all but the last thing he needed.
Every time he closes his eyes he sees the sprint to Betty, the fight to save the officer's life. Luca did his best to drive but the ride had been bumpy and he couldn't get the heart beating again.

He felt incredibly guilty.

While Victor is still deep in his wallowing and bargaining. Trying to figure out if he could've done anything differently he suddenly feels Bonnie's fingers trace up his arm and over his jaw to his cheek.
"You're shivering. What's wrong?" Bonnie musters him with a worried look trying to decipher the turmoil in his eyes. But Victor shakes his head.
"I don't want to burden you with my demons. Yesterday..." he doesn't finish his thought and when Bonnie just leans into him he gratefully pulls her closer with his arms. Just grateful she is here, at his side. Feeling her close helps him be a little bit distracted, and not all that annoyed with himself for failing.

A little while later they walk hand in hand across the beach. Their toes burrowed into the sand so they don't burn themselves. From time to time Bonnie turns her head and silently observes Victor. The day, the operation yesterday had been hard on him and she knows from her conversations with Annie that the SWAT group rarely talk about their work at home. HQ doesn't give out the information which team works which case to civilians anyway but Bonnie can guess.

The news had reported about a plane crash somewhere in the city and there had been rumors that the DEA and SWAT had tried to raid the plane before.

But today was meant to distract Victor. She didn't know what exactly had happened but her boyfriend had been very withdrawn and pensive.

That evening he broke down after reading a text on his phone. His eyes got misty, and he is almost choking on his emotions. "In a few days it the funeral of a colleague who died yesterday. We, I.." he doesn't have to finish his sentence. Bonnie scoots over and tells him softly "I'll be by your side, if you want me to," while grabbing his hand. "I am sure you did everything in your power."

A few days later Victor is still lying in bed enjoying a quiet morning to himself. Their shift last night had been long and it still wasn't easy to go out into the world and leaving Bonnie behind after what had happened. Hearing her voice drift over from the kitchen was making him smile.

She was his home after all.

But suddenly he bolts up. He must've misheard that. Was Bonnie on the phone or was that a dream. A bad dream.

Hoping not to overreact Victor jumps up and heads to the bathroom first. Hoping that some cold water might lift the confusion. But standing at the sink he hears it again.

"Sure, we can meet at your place. You guys cook and we bring the wine!"

"Please don't let Street cook!" he lets out in a low whine fearing the worst and staring helplessly at his reflection until a laugh draws his eyes to the door.

"Morning," Bonnie smiles at him and raises an eyebrow. Victor knows she is waiting for some sort of explanation from him. "Why shouldn't he cook. From the looks of it he hasn't poisoned Molly yet…" she adds and leans onto the frame expectantly.

"I'd check the trashcan for delivery packaging. Pasta water is already a challenge." Victor replies bluntly and breaks into a grin when he notices Bonnie's shocked expression.

"Don't worry. Boiling water will probably work. But the rest, well I still hope Molly does the cooking."

"We will see," she says before turning the conversation over to their own breakfast plans by informing him "Coffee is ready. Let's just enjoy a quiet morning."

And for some reason, Victor immediately smells the coffee wafting over now.

With the situation getting worse by the hour from the news reports and the rumor that the city would shut down soon Victor hoped that Bonnie would still get to experience the nice evening with friends she was hoping for. She was really excited and to see her smile and hear her laugh he'd brave his friend's cooking too and survive it somehow.

While Bonnie is getting ready Victor plays around with his phone. One moment he was scrolling through some news app when an alert blocks his display.

The mayor actually put a stay-at-home order in effect. Starting tonight. No one, aside from essential workers is allowed out after 7 pm.

Victor hears the bathroom door opening and Bonnie steps out in a beautiful yellow sundress looking gloom already. He simply walks over and pulls her into his arm.

"I am so sorry. I know you were looking forward to dinner," he mumbles into her hair before taking a step back and leading her to the sofa.

"You look very beautiful tonight," he presses a soft kiss to her temple. "Sit, relax. Let me grab you a glass of wine and quickly throw something together for dinner."

Bonnie smiles grateful "Thank you."

When he comes back with the wine Bonnie grins at him and holds out her phone.

"You forgot to mention edible," she manages to get out laughing while Victor tries to read the message. Apparently, the sauce had turned out to be a little heavy on the salt.

"When all of this is over, we'll find a new date." He whispers in her ear before Victor is back in the kitchen throwing together a simple rice dish for two.
