AN: Davina helps Bonnie come to terms with a difficult decision, altering the course of her life, to Abby and Kol's dismay.
In the future, Kol tells Davina how he really feels and Kai wakes up alone, pissed off that Bonnie is gone.
Three years ago, to preserve the life of her love, and the love of her life, Bonnie had to part ways with him.

*Reminder that I do not own these characters
*Please forgive me in advance for any errors, had to bump this one out before I keep changing things as the chapter was so long I had to split it in two. I wanted Bonnie and Kol to have more time together at first but then it just makes it more dramatic that as soon as they fall in love, they're ripped apart.
Davina's POV
New Orleans 2013 two months ago
"Davina, it's me. I know it's been a long time but I really need your help. I can't explain right now but my shield came down and I need to put it back up. I can feel him, I know he's coming. It's not safe. Please, call me back,"
The urgency in Bonnie Bennett's voice is what summoned Davina Claire to a sleepy little town called Mystic Falls to help Bonnie with a cloaking spell. Not that she particularly felt she owed Bonnie anything, but if she did right by Bonnie, she presumed it would soften Kol's attitude towards her. After Bonnie left New Orleans with the Salvatore vampire, Kol was an absolute fuming mess, slaughtering more than half of the tourist population at the time. Davina had been the one to rehabilitate him and it had been one hell of a task to center him, especially with how he initially blamed her for separating him from Bonnie. Oh, it was dreadfully daunting, dangerous even to be around Kol back then.
But Davina somehow appealed to his better nature. Right. She knew she was lying to herself if she continued to think that way. The only way she centered him was by agreeing to help him find a way to kill off Esther for good. After which they decided not to speak of Bonnie again to aid in closing the wound she left on his heart. Only then did he seem to sort of move on with his life, becoming very close with Davina. Things were going so well, until the night she called.
One late night in Spain, after hours of the kind of sex that moved the heavens and the earth, Davina was lying in bed, basking in the afterglow while Kol went to the shower when she got a phone call. The name Bonnie Bennett flashed across the screen. Davina hesitated, unsure if she should answer or not, being that it may complicate things with Kol. She sighed with relief when the buzzing stopped, only for it to ring again. Something had to be wrong, Bonnie had not called once in the eight months she'd been cloaked. Finally, she answered, figuring Kol was in the shower, his vampire senses weren't that keen.
"Bonnie?" She whispered.
"Davina!" Bonnie called on the other end. "Hey, I'm sorry to call you so late, I needed to let you know the other side-"
The phone was snatched suddenly from Davina's hands and she could only make out Kol flashing to the other side of the room.
"Bonnie? Bonnie, my love, it's me," he said breathlessly into the phone. He was glistening wet, with a towel wrapped around his waist. "Where are you? What is going on? Hello?"
He looked at the phone to check if the call was still active; it was. Davina guessed Bonnie wasn't responding. She quickly put on her robe and stood up.
"Please answer me, darling. I just need to hear your voice, to know that you're ok. I dream of you every night, you haunt me, even in my sleep,"
Still no response. "Bonnie, please," then his face contorted in a glare. He lowered the phone, the call had ended. "What did she say?" Davina asked.
"Nothing, she wouldn't answer me. I only heard silence until Damon told her to hang up," he growled as he handed Davina back her phone. "When I get her back, I'm going to kill him,"
"Kol, stop it. You were doing so good," Davina reached for him, grabbing his hands. "Don't spiral, please. I need you. It's not safe, if it was she would've answered. I'm here, Kol. And I love you, I can't lose you,"
Kol regarded Davina for a moment, leaning away from her hold. Then his face softened and he sighed, taking her back to bed. Two days later they were back in New Orleans walking hand in hand up to Marcel in the daylight of the French Quarter. Kol pulled his hand away as they approached.
Davina frowned. "It's fine, he already knows about us,"
Still, Kol shoved both hands in his pockets and looked Marcel up and down. Marcel crossed his arms and smirked. Kol gave him a slight nod.
"Marcel!" Davina threw his arms around her father figure.
"Hey D. Where have you been, missy?"
"I've been fine, we both have," she pulled back to stand again next to Kol. "We're only here for a few days, I got a call from Bonnie, something happened with the other side. Have you heard anything?"
Marcel frowned and appeared in thought for a moment. "No, nothing unusual, Abby hasn't said anything either," he looked at Kol who had remained silent the whole time. "Are you going to see Abby?"
"No, we weren't planning on it," Davina answered.
"Actually, I'm going to be on my way to see Abby now," Kol corrected. "Then I'm leaving town,"
Marcel nodded at that. "She's in Rousseau's,"
"What? Kol, no, I'm coming with you,"
Kol cradled her face in his hands. "Davina, I have to go. You're better off here, at home. I need to be alone in my travels,"
Without another word, Kol had flashed away and Davina didn't hear a damn thing about anyone from Mystic Falls until 2013 when Bonnie called on her again.
Present-day Mystic Falls
"Stop this! Why can't I feel her, Davina?" Kol demanded as he zipped away from her grasp as she attempted to kiss him.
Davina leaned on the door before she turned around to face Kol again. "Because she doesn't want you to. Don't you get it? She doesn't want to see you, Kol it hurts too much and it's not going to help anything,"
"I felt her, for a brief moment in time, until I arrived back in the States. I know you had something to do with it. You've cloaked her again, haven't you?"
"I helped you both again, to stay off of Esther's radar when her shield fell. You're welcome, by the way. But she still doesn't want to see you, she can't. Nothings changed!"
Kol stalked closer to her, leaning down next to her face. "Everything has changed. You swore a vow to me, Davina Claire and I intend to hold you to it," his lips brushed softly against her ear. "Or you will die for all your treachery against me that I have, until now, overlooked. I've taken great pleasure in seducing you to my heart's content, I'll take even greater pleasure in ripping your throat out, should you fail to cooperate."
Tears welled up in Davina's eyes. "I have showed you nothing but love when you needed it most! I've been there for you, Kol. Does all that really mean nothing to you?"
"Less than nothing!" He hissed. It seemed his patience was wearing thin. "That was entirely your doing, through no request of my own. I took pity on your company, but make no mistake, any affections I may have seemed to harbor for you was solely an attempt to drown my sorrows over the loss of the only love I've ever known. The day she left was the day my heart stopped, it only ever beat for her. Have I made myself clear?"
Davina bit her lip, clenched her jaw, and swallowed hard. This wasn't the Kol she knew at all, he was so cold and cruel to her, the complete opposite of the charming, affectionate vampire she'd spent nearly five months with in their travels. It became evident that he was either gone forever, or he never truly existed. "Crystal," she whispered, feeling her heart crumbling to pieces.
"Wonderful, darling!" Kol clapped his hands together. "Let's get on with it shall we?"
Kol now appeared ecstatic when just moments ago he was threatening her and brutally trampling all over her heart. It occurred to Davina that the psychotic, maniacal reputation preceded Kol, as his mission to get back to Bonnie rendered the sentiment most conspicuous.
Kai's POV
When Kai opened his eyes, Bonnie was gone. Mother fucking shit balls of fire! He had her and now she was gone. The cherry on top of this repugnant shit sundae was that there was some other ain't shit fuckwad who supposedly had Bonnie's heart. What didn't make sense was why did she never mention him? What the fuck. Kai racked his brains for clues. In the prison world she had said she'd had a vampire boyfriend. Apparently that wasn't Damon. Just who the fuck was this guy?
Kai was fuming. Yet, he didn't want to take his anger out on Bonnie or her friends. Not yet, at least as that would destroy his credibility that he was worthy of trust. Not that Bonnie actually trusted him yet, but in time she would, as he sought to acquire a greater power for the both of them. She had come so close, the plan would have worked if it wasn't for her asshole mystery boyfriend.
He stalked to his room and rummaged through a dresser drawer until he found a hairbrush. It still had wafts of pink strands in it. He used this to perform a locator spell. The owner of this brush was located in some bumfuck town that was hardly a blip on the map. He had to Google it but he found the mini city was called Riverdale. Kai packed lightly, he had a trip to make and hopefully blood to spill, to temper the rage building up inside of him. He still could not believe Bonnie had the audacity to still consider anyone else after meeting him. She wasn't seeing Kai as she should, she wasn't giving it a chance. Her eyes would be opened once he accessed the power he sought.
New Orleans 2010
Hayley's POV
"I'm over this teen drama. I'm glad Hope's too young for all that right now," Hayley said in a hushed voice as her hybrid audio senses picked up on the argument going on in Bonnie and Kol's quarters. They had been at it for almost an hour already.
"I think it's sweet," Rebekah mused as she sighed. "I meant what I told her last night. He adores her and I've never seen him this way about anyone, ever. Kol has charmed many, though he's never cared for any of them, not the way he does for Bonnie. I think it's romantic, he wants to wed her in his last days,"
"Who would want to be a seventeen year old widow? I get that she loves him but she's blinded by that love." The idea just seemed so far-fetched to Hayley. To marry when you will soon be devoid of a spouse? What sort of sense did that make?
Rebekah looked away, hardly able to compose her somber expression. "It doesn't matter, it's not like Nik will allow it. Not with Abby in his back pocket, but even without her, I'd expect nothing less from my idiot brother than to sour any of his siblings' unions when they're truly happy. He's done it to me every time I've fallen in love. Kol will be no exception."
"So theoretically, Bonnie could desiccate him again, if she really had to, right? For any of you?" Hayley asked, considering her one night stand with Klaus was truly a bullet dodged.
"She can but she won't. She's not using any magic because of Kol, remember? Why would you want me out of the picture anyway? I'm the fun aunt," Rebekah replied with a smirk.
"I just don't know. If Klaus isn't on board…"
"I wouldn't worry about that. Once he sees his daughter, he won't be able to say no to her little angel face. And he'll do anything to keep her safe. He's always needed and though he won't admit it, wanted something of his own he could truly love,"
The two women watched as Hope played with LEGOs.
"Sounds like they're done arguing. Hope, I'll be right back ok?"
Hope didn't answer, instead she pretended her LEGO character had taken a fall. "Oh noooo, I'm falling!" She wailed in a soft pitch.
Rebekah chuckled as she followed Hayley out. "I've always wanted that. To be a mother. To have a simple human life. I imagine there's no greater joy,"
"There's nothing like it," Hayley sighed. "At the same time, I don't know what I would do if Hope wanted to marry a volatile vampire,"
"As if Nik would let that happen!"
"In that case, I'd feel sorry for that fool," Hayley chuckled, realizing how true that actually rang. "Do you think they're really gonna do it?"
"Thought you weren't interested in the teen drama?"
"The neighbors are miles away and they probably heard everyone going at it," she pointed out.
"I think they should elope and run away together. Away from all this," Rebekah waved her hands in front of her.
"Oh you're a real romantic, aren't you?"
They stepped into the main room of the warehouse, where the other witches, werewolves, and vampires were gathered. Kol was leaning against the wall, staring straight ahead in a glare, while Klaus Mikaelson stood nearby, surveying the room.
Hayley's breath hitched ever so slightly that it went undetected. Klaus had always had a certain regality about him that was alluring and intimidating. It was what drew her to him, five years prior. For one night, that ended up changing the course of her life. Their union, though brief, was passionate, intense and had wrought forth Hayley's miracle, her blessing, and a powerful being at that. Klaus was unaware of this, and Hayley never saw any reason to involve Klaus in Hope's life, due to the stories passed down through many generations of his violent nature. Hopefully the news about Hope wouldn't spur his temper.
He noticed Hayley right away. "Hayley, isn't it? Lovely to see you again. You must have gotten that beastly temper in check if you're now keeping the company of vampires," he said with his charming, cherry smile.
"And witches," Hayley added.
"What special brings us all together today? Besides taming the raging teenage hormones who took it upon themselves to thrust theirselves into the raging fire of my mother's wicked plotting, ultimately dooming their romance to a Romeo and Juliet style demise?"
Hayley approached the center of the room, dramatically turning on her heel to face Klaus straight on. She decided to lead with what would appeal to him most. "You wanted hybrids. So why don't we start there?"
"Hybrids?" Klaus laughed. "Darling, I'm the only hybrid. My doppelgänger's blood was the only thing that can sire hybrids, it's useless to me now,"
"I'm a hybrid. So is my four year-old daughter,"
"Only hybrid blood can spawn another hybrid," Marcel added.
"But you were a wolf? How is this possible?" Klaus was clearly confused and had as of yet failed to put two and two together.
"She's had your child! God Nik, is that not quite obvious?" Kol blurted out. Hayley and Rebekah both whipped their heads in his direction to sear him with a glare.
"Thank you!" Hayley hissed Rebekah rolled her eyes and Marcel put a palm over his face.
"Oh I'm sorry, I'd just like to move this along, seeing as how I'm going to die in just days. Forgive me, if I'm lacking in tact!" Kol grabbed a glass of Marcel's Don Julio and slammed it back.
"Lies," Klaus now pierced Hayley with a glare.
"I'm not lying," she said.
"See, that's what I thought at first, but no. It checks out," Marcel said. "Good thing too, otherwise there'd be no saving any of your sorry asses, or the rest of us vampires. Gen, would you be a dear?"
Genevieve recited an incantation, and the air rippled, revealing the hybrid nature of four of the wolves present.
"These are the other hybrids that Hope's blood created," Marcel explained. "Kol and Rebekah have been briefed but we need your cooperation as well,"
Klaus turned his glare on his siblings. "You two. Conspiring against me?!"
Rebekah shook her head furiously. "Of course not! We-"
"I AM KLAUS MIKAELSON, THE GREAT HYBRID!" he thundered, his eyes irises manifesting a golden hue. "I answer to no one ,"
"Buffoon. You'll get everyone killed, including your precious Abby and Hope," Kol murmured.
"If anything happens to the child, I won't ever forgive you, Nik!" Rebekah asserted, veins swirling under her eyes. It was clear she was passionately disappointed in Klaus's demeanor.
"Mommy?" Hayley turned to see Hope tiptoeing into the room. Every wolf, vampire, and witch present stood up, bracing in anticipation of Klaus's next move.
"Hope!" Hayley rushed over to her daughter. "Hope, I need you to go play in the other room, ok?"
"Is that daddy? Why is he yelling?" Hope asked as she pressed herself into her mother's arms. Hope buried her face in Hayley's chest. She held her as she looked up at Klaus.
He was transfixed, watching Hope with wide, steamy eyes.
Abby's POV
Abby closed the door after the Originals exited the suite. She strolled over to the bathroom door, turned on her back, and leaned against it.
"Bonnie. You can't stay in there forever. And you certainly can't hide from this conversation," she called.
"Who said I'm hiding?"
"No one had to. You're acting the same way I did when I was your age, how do you think I became a young mom?"
"Oh my God, you were twenty when you had me!" Bonnie groaned out loud.
"Yes but before that I was almost a seventeen-year-old mom, because I was being reckless, just like you are now! That's so young Bonnie, to change your life so drastically,"
"My life changed drastically these past few years when I found out I was a witch and got mixed up in all this vampire business! Thanks for preparing me for all this by the way, it's been fun dodging death at every fucking corner lately!" The young witch began to shout.
Bonnie's words struck a nerve in Abby. It was true, she hadn't been there when Bonnie truly needed her. She was suddenly thrust into this supernatural world and the only one who could've helped her was taken from her shortly thereafter. Abby should've been there to help her through it all, if she had maybe Sheila would still be alive. Maybe Bonnie wouldn't be trying to risk it all for an ancient vampire, whom Abby worried might corrupt her inexperienced and impressionable -and frankly naive- teenaged daughter.
All of these sentiments swirled around in Abby's mind, culminating in one primal emotion -rage. Needing an outlet, she figured cracking down on her authority as a mother would suffice. Abby lifted her right boot and kicked the bathroom door in. Finally, it flew open.
"Abby, what the hell?" Bonnie stood frozen, with her hands in her scalp as she was mid-styling her hair.
"You must be smoking crack, otherwise you would know not to talk to me like that. I'm still your mother and I know my mama raised you better than to disrespect your elders, Bonnie. That's not you, girl. What has gotten into you?"
"I'm not on crack!"
"Then it's Kol! Isn't it? I warned you about moving too fast," Abby sighed a deep breath. "He's not even gonna be around, don't put yourself through this,"
"Abby, I'm sorry, I can't help it, I love him. And he loves me. I can't just give up on him. I have to do something." Then Bonnie turned on Abby. "And why would you help Klaus dagger Kol and put me in an enchanted sleep? Why are you here with him?"
Abby gave her a quick glance before she turned and walked out of the bathroom. "Finish your hair, we have business to take care of,"
"Oh no, don't shut down now that we're talking about you," Bonnie followed her back into the suite. "What aren't you telling me?"
"This isn't the answer Bonnie! You're going to have let Kol go, and being a young widow isn't going to help you get over him,"
"I don't want to get over him. He's… my," Bonnie trailed off, rubbing her wrist thoughtfully.
"What?"
"Soulmate. I can't let him go," she explained, thrusting her palms out.
Abby heard the change in the rhythm of Bonnie's heart when she said that. Clearly her girl had it and she had it bad for Kol, and there wasn't a damn thing that could be done about it.
"How did you find out?" Abby asked, warily.
"Davina did a spell last night, she thought Kol was eerily attached to me,"
The same soulmate spell Klaus had informed Abby of when he revealed he was Abby's soulmate. "Did she tell you about the hex?"
"No, all I've heard was from Marcel that Kol is hexed and I'm to make the most of my time because it's killing him. No one will tell me how it works!" Bonnie threw her hands up in exasperation. "But they blocked my magic,"
"Bonnie, you have until that spell wears off tonight, then you're going to have to use your magic. Marcel gave you twenty-four hours, but if you don't use your magic, it's going to lash out at those around you because the hex needs something to target," Abby explained as clearly and gently as she could.
Her green-eyed daughter stumbled back until she felt for a chair and sat down. She numbly stared at the space in front of her.
"Baby girl," Abby approached Bonnie carefully.
"Esther told me that I would suffer greatly if I wasn't Kol's demise," she whispered. "Please, Mama. Help me figure something out!" Beseeching wet eyes drilled into Abby's skull.
"Well, the daggers will put everything on pause,"
Bonnie put her head in her hands. "He'd literally rather die,"
A presence at the door caught Abby's attention. She flashed over to open it. There stood the young harvest witch.
"I have good news, we've recruited Klaus," she said with a confident smile.
"For what?" Abby wondered aloud. She had been so focused on Bonnie, she didn't pay attention to the meeting going on at the other end of Marcel's- what the hell was this place anyway, a warehouse or a mansion?
"I'll fill you in, Abby. Thank you, Davina, that is good news." Bonnie spoke in a dead, monotonous tone.
Davina peered around Abby's shoulder. "Bonnie, are you ok?"
"Peachy. My boyfriend's going to die because I'm a witch and I'm pretty sure my mom's banging the big bad hybrid. Not to mention my best friends doppelgänger is trying to murder her, once again. Everything is great! Just peachy," Bonnie gave her a bitter smile before her face morphed into a resting state of a glare.
Goddammit Bonnie! "Bonnie's not having the best day," Abby offered, utilizing her best apologetic expression.
"It's ok," Davina stepped into the room, closing the door behind her. "I know you're going through a hell of a lot right now. I think I can help, but it's going to have consequences. I only know this because I've done it before,"
To Abby's dismay, Bonnie's languid expression began to take on interest as Davina spoke. "Bon, you shouldn't mess with hexes," she warned.
But Bonnie paid her no attention. "Does it involve Kol being daggered?" Davina shook her head. "Then I'm all ears,"
"We need to do this tonight, as soon as your magic comes back," the harvest witch asserted.
Mystic Falls
Stefan's POV
As Elena rolled out of bed and headed towards Stefan's on-suite, he watched her nude form disappear behind the bathroom door and let out a sigh. They had spent the night having mind-blowing sex, all over the boarding house they now has to themselves since Damon was with Bonnie in Louisiana. They'd also wanted to make the most of their time since Damon had warned them that Katherine was making her way back to Mystic Falls on a revenge mission. She was targeting Elena, blaming her and her friends for her daughter's death. Stefan, always having had a soft spot for the turmoil he knew Katherine faced in her long life, couldn't help but feel slightly guilty. The plan to take out the Originals ended up backfiring, terribly. Esther was still plotting from beyond her many graves and as a result of their latest attempt, Finn was struck down, eliminating everyone in his sireline, namely Nadia.
Katherine was now a bereft mother and he couldn't exactly blame her for her impulses. Of course he wouldn't let her do anything to hurt Elena, but his conscience wanted Elena to understand his point of view. But she wouldn't even listen to reason when it came to Damon, much less Katherine. All of this had begun to drive a wedge between the immortal teen couple, as the usual queen of forgiveness seemed to be fueled with an innate hatred for the true nature of vampire brutality. Being a vampire herself, she seemed immune to said nature, making it no wonder she failed to tolerate anything less than a vampire who could keep their composure. Of course this complicated things, due to Stefan's Ripper nature but he'd worked hard after his binge with Klaus to come back to Elena. After all they'd been through, they had to make it.
A knock at the door startled him, as it was barely dawn. He flashed downstairs and opened the front door, only there was no one there. Turning around, he startled once again to see Katherine standing behind him, looking like she'd just crawled out of a shallow grave. Her hair was disheveled and dirt was caked all over her.
"Katherine!"
She glared at him. " Elena," she stated as if it were obvious.
"Drop the act Katherine, I've been with Elena all night,"
Her mouth dropped open in shock before her glare returned. "Oh, hell no," she said in a low growl.
"You're not gonna fool me,"
"Fine, I'll drop the act," Elena said from behind him. He turned around to face her, she was dressed but still towel drying her hair. She gave him an evil smirk. Katherine! "Nothing gets past you, does it Stefan?"
Enraged at realizing who he'd just spent the night with, Stefan flew at Katherine, enclosing his fists around her throat. The actual Elena pulled Stefan off and delivered an audible punch that sent Katherine flying backward. She landed near the stairs, and shot up in an instant.
"Please, I've been waiting for this moment," she snarled at Elena as each doppelgänger braced themselves.
"The moment you finally get what you deserve? Yeah, so have I!"
The doppelgangers rushed at each other and Elena was the first to land a punch to Katherine's chin. The woman traded a few more punches before Katherine high kicked Elena in the chest. The younger vampire groaned and doubled over. When Katherine grabbed her by the hair and attempted to slam her head into the wall, Elena swung her around so Katherine instead hit the wall.
Stefan grabbed the concentrated dose of vervain from the hunter's artillery duffel and continued to watch as a flurry of punches, kicks, and chokeholds ensued, with Katherine eventually gaining the upper hand. It's a shame Damon's not here to witness, he silently mused to himself. Now a muddied and bloodied Katherine pinned an equally bedraggled Elena, in a tight chokehold, lifting the vial that contained the cure to vampirism to her lips.
"Say goodnight, you pathetic copy,"
Immediately, Stefan flashed over and injected Katherine with the dose of vervain, piercing her neck.
"Ahh!" Katherine yelped. Elena took the opportunity to flip around and grab the cure, and poured it down Katherine's throat.
"Goodnight, you pathetic copy!"
Swallowing the cure rendered Katherine unconscious. Elena kicked her to the side and stood up, facing Stefan. "We need to talk,"
Bonnie's POV
Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am free again
Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am clean again
However far away, I will always love you
However long I stay, I will always love you
Whatever words I say, I will always love you
I will always love you
Love Song by 311
"I feel like this song is mocking us," Bonnie said with a deep sigh. "This whole situation mocks my love life, I swear," she mumbled as she sifted through a selection of jackets in the men's section at Nordstrom.
"And here I thought a shopping spree with my girl would be fun. I find the lyrics to be awfully romantic," Kol said as he too, thumbed through the selection in the next aisle. He pulled a white, cream colored suit jacket.
"Duh, that's my point. The whole romance- Oh, that one! Does it have coat tails?"
"This is off-white, it won't do. We should be in the women's section shopping for swimwear for you this summer," Kol huffed. "That's my last wish, to see all the ways you'll possibly spend your summer, with only tiny bits of fabric covering your beautiful bosom and private bits,"
Bonnie rolled her eyes, ignoring Kol's perv fantasies.
"Don't you trust me? I have a vision here. The shirt is white, the cream jacket will compliment you. Go try this on," she turned him towards the direction of the dressing room. He spun around, facing her again.
"Only if you come with me,"
"Sir, I will not indulge your vulgar fantasies until after you try this on and prove me right. And don't kill anyone," She spun him around again. "Quickly! Thank you,"
When Kol entered the dressing room, Bonnie rushed outside, taking a seat next to a flowing fountain. The sound of the splashing water was loud, exactly what she needed to mask her conversation. She dialed Caroline's number.
"Bonnie? Are you still in New Orleans?" The blonde vampire inquired as she answered her line.
"Still here, what happened with Katherine?"
"She's now human, believe it or not!" Caroline replied.
"Oh my God, that's great news! Ok, so Elena's fine, great. I have to tell you something. We need to have the talk," she added, emphasizing the importance of privacy this conversation needed.
"Seriously?! Hold on," Bonnie heard Caroline put the phone to her chest and yell at whoever else was present with her to get out, this was important. "Ok, we're clear. So what happened, you're thinking of doing it?"
"Yes. I wanna make love to my man," Bonnie blushed slightly, not because she was ashamed but because she'd never spoke so candidly about sex before. Caroline had always said she'd be there for her when she'd decided to take that step, being that she had so much experience with it. "You love Tyler, right? What's it like?"
"Oh, Bonnie that's… that's two different things. When you have sex with someone, at first it hurts but then it feels wonderful. But when you make love to someone, it's… I can't exactly describe it but it's so beyond wonderful, it's everything. Physically it's great of course, makes me feel complete and relaxed but emotionally. It shakes your soul. God, like with Tyler, I just know that no one else could ever compare or take his place in my heart. It's pure ecstasy and love all in one and when I'm laying in his arms afterwards-"
Bonnie choked back a sob. Caroline made it sound like the ultimate experience, to be able to physically express love in such a way. The prospect of having such an intimate experience only once in her life with the one she truly loved was something she wasn't sure she could handle. To have but a taste of Kol's love, only to have it ripped away by the hex in just a few short days. Her heart was already breaking. But what an experience it would be for a dying man, did he not deserve at least that?
"What happened, what did I say?" Caroline asked, in her usual worried and neurotic fashion.
"Nothing, I have to go now, Care. Kol's waiting for me,"
Bonnie hung up her phone and splashed water from the fountain on her face. She turned to rejoin Kol in the department store only to see Damon Salvatore standing near the entrance.
"What are you still doing here? I thought you went home?"
"I know what you and Sabrina the teenage bitch are up to," Damon bore his blue eyes into hers as she walked up.
But Bonnie wasn't in the mood for his shit. "Damon, mind your business or I swear I'll set you on fire when I get my magic back," her voice cracked when she spoke, she was enraged at everything in that moment. She couldn't be with her love, Damon broke his promise to still protect Elena, her mom and Klaus we're grossing her out with their googly-eyed stares they thought they were sneaking. It was a good thing she didn't have her magic, it would be manifesting in a way that would likely frighten the public.
She attempted to March past him, but he grabbed her arm and pulled her flush against him. "Hey, I'm here. Whether you like it or not," He raised his brows in a question, as if to inquire that she understood.
"Why?"
Damon grabbed her arm and pulled her back towards the fountain, with Bonnie shaking her arm free once they'd halted. "You're gonna need me. You should be glad, I'm being useful for once,"
Bonnie just gaped at him, the bewilderment settled on her face.
"You think he's just going to let you go, Bonbon? You think any guy would be that stupid to just let you walk away?"
"Yeah but the witches-"
"Will be slaughtered the instant he breaks free from their hold," Damon corrected, emphasizing with a brow raise.
"No," Bonnie shook her head. "He won't hurt anyone, he loves me," she wasn't sure if she was trying to convince Damon or herself because everyone knew Kol would lose his damn mind without her.
"Witchy, my naive little sidekick, you understand the guy's practically obsessed with you, he flips out when you chip a nail," he drawled out quickly. "He's going to be crushed when he realizes you're gone. It is not gonna be pretty and we need to make a clean get away before he catches up and exacerbates his own hex because then you'll be taking it out on everyone,"
"Oh God, I know," Bonnie put her face in her hands. "What are we gonna do?"
Bonnie re-entered the department store. Rushing over to the men's department, the corridor to the dressing room seemed empty. She looked around and was suddenly yanked into a dressing room and swung around to look up into the eyes of Kol.
"Greetings, little love," he said as he locked the door.
She exhaled a sigh of relief. "Dammit Kol, you scared me,"
"My sentiments exactly when I stepped outside and you were nowhere in sight," he countered smugly.
The young witch looked over her man who was dressed in the suit with the coattails. "Oh see, it looks great on you, let me see,"
She took a few minutes to admire what was to become the last outfit Kol would ever wear, trying to think of only how handsome he looked. Then Kol demanded she model a few swimsuits he'd pulled from the ladies' section.
He looked at her hungrily and Bonnie knew where that would lead. "Kol, we're in public!" She whispered.
"Not to worry, I've compelled everyone to steer clear of this area for the next half hour," he grinned before he captured her lips. Distracted by his kiss, Bonnie didn't realize he'd pulled her tank down over her shoulders until he pulled away to help her out of it.
"Kol," she murmured in light protest as he pulled her skirt down.
"You must remain quiet," he whispered as he helped her step out of her skirt. Kol handed her a bikini top. "Put this on. I'll handle the bottoms," without waiting for a response, Kol dropped to the floor and pulled her cheeky lace panties down to her ankles. He pulled the pair off one ankle before he lifted her leg over his shoulder. Looking up at Bonnie, he placed his hand on her hip and said "Remember. Absolutely quiet," before he dived between her legs.
Bonnie's mouth formed an O and she could only release a gasp in response.
Damon's POV
Damon was sitting in the den area of Marcel's warehouse -or mansion, he couldn't tell when there were too many damn cloaking spells in this place, the air brimmed thick with witchy woo- just acting as a spectator, quietly observing. He'd been doing a lot of that lately and the tea was hot. Klaus had a long lost baby mama, a tiny witchy offspring, the quarter witches were cooking something up with Esther again, some were switching sides because of the hybrid agenda, some were acting as spies and there were indeed traitors among the midst. No matter, they'd be killed off easily enough before they could ever become powerful hybrids. Marcel, a vampire, and Hayley, a werewolf-vampire hybrid had demonstrated with multiple rounds of sparring between the few hybrids and ordinary vampires exactly how effective and hybrid vampirism really was. They were stronger, faster, and their regenerative powers were far reaching as they needed to be completely dismembered to meet their permanent death.
Damon even had a go, needing to blow off some tension since Witchy and her OG boy were working his last nerve with their Romeo and Juliet tragedy spiel. He went up against Hayley and at first he led, attributing his advantage to his skills as a former soldier but Hayley was trained in martial arts. She quickly got the upper hand and Damon found himself at a disadvantage, another time with an even younger version of a hybrid. With the proper training, the hybrids would be unstoppable and they could become an army. Exactly what Klaus wanted. Normally it would be cause for alarm, except Marcel had made it clear that they would pursue the hybrid agenda with or without Klaus. He was not to lead an army of hybrids on his own or he'd be subdued and locked away, with the help of their team of witches.
Abby wasn't for all those power moves anyway and she was currently attempting to calm "King Hybrid" down. The upside was that Klaus would likely stay in NOLA now that he had a little squirt to parent, and take out Esther somehow. Damon wondered what this meant for Abby and Bonnie. He didn't turn Abby just to have her run out on Bonnie again and he knew Klaus was getting all ridiculous and soul-matey over Mama Bennett. Knowing that Bonnie was planning her departure from Kol in just a few hours was one thing, not knowing the next move was another. Abby couldn't possibly stay with Klaus and leave Bonnie. He didn't want Witchy to lose her mom and her douchebag -excuse me- boyfriend in the same day.
Rebekah plopped down in the seat next to him. "You haven't called," she huffed.
Damon hardly reacted. "That's the beauty of a one night stand, Barbie. It's one night. Meaning I should never have to see your face again."
"Oh please, try to conceal it all you want but your inherent loneliness will drag you to my feet eventually," her eyes shifted slightly to the far corner of the room where Marcel was standing in a hushed conversation with a few vampires and hybrids.
"Oh I get it. Trying to make someone jealous? And simultaneously spite Elena?"
"How do you figure that?"
"You roll around with me again to the horror of your looney brother and my new bosom buddy who you've might have noticed is really judgey. She'll eventually tell Elena who's repulsed by anything I do and will complain to Stefan, making them fight once again. My question is who are you trying to target, Marcel or Stefan?"
Rebekah just threw her back and laughed maniacally. "I don't care, as long as Elena's misery brings me great joy and it does. Last chance?"
Damon smirked. "Right,"
The harvest witch strolled in just then with Abby at her side. "Damon, come," Abby called.
In an instant, Damon was hovering directly behind Abby. "Can't we at least have dinner first?"
Abby turned to glare at him while Davina stifled a laugh. Then she cleared her throat and said "This way, please,"
Davina led them to a room full of various items that were magic paraphernalia. "You know why we're here," she began as she lit sage.
"Yeah, yeah, how's this gonna go down?"
"Bonnie and I will need to channel you because it's a big spell. We're going to cloak both couples from each other using Bonnie's magic while I intercept it from affecting Kol." Davina explained. "Then Abby and Bonnie are going to leave, when the coast is clear you can leave too,"
He shook his head. "First of all that's a suicide mission. You take both Bennetts away from the Originals, they'll kill everyone here, starting with you and me. What else you got?"
"That's the plan Damon!" Abby exclaimed. "Bonnie's going to need me, she'll be distraught without Kol-"
"Kol can be daggered, Klaus can't, Abby! He'll break Kol free and they'll both go after you, slaughtering anyone in their path,"
Abby looked between Davina and Damon. "I can't leave her. What are we gonna do?"
Damon sighed as Davina attempted to explain how her witch friends were strong enough to keep them subdued. It was obviously up to him to fix everything, as always.
Kol's POV
Kol was damn proud of Bonnie. In just one night, his innocent little witch had gone from inexperienced to being well versed in the art of pleasing Kol when it came to manual and oral stimulation. She'd even went for a dressing room session in public. A spontaneous and bold move on her part. He only hoped in the few days he had left, she'd want to move past that, yet he didn't want their unfortunate circumstances to push her into an experience she wasn't ready for.
As she emerged from the still steamy bathroom in their suite, he thought of all that she would be when he was gone.
It was a small comfort he'd be on the other side, watching her every move, it just hurt him that one day she'd move on. Kol guessed this was his punishment for more lifetimes than he could count of violence, blood, debauchery. Fate was indeed cruel, fooling him into believing that one day they'd be immortal together. How Esther even discovered such a loophole was beyond his scope of comprehension but it seemed fate was against him, angry with him. Bonnie would probably go on to love again, replacing the hole in her heart with some other lame bloke who wasn't worth her time. The thought made him sick to his stomach, yet he knew it was to pass. She had to go on without him, as much as he hated it. Kol had lived a thousand years without her, now he'd just had but a faint taste of her love before fate would tear them apart.
Silently he approached her, scooping her into his arms. Bonnie wrapped her legs around his waist and he carried her to the bed. Situating them on the bed, he buried his face between her neck and shoulders and Bonnie hugged Kol's neck. Together they just sat there, in each other's arms, feeling the weight of the crushing emotions roaring within their beings. There wasn't anything that could comfort either of them, nothing would take away the heartache that would forever dwell within their souls. All they had was the moment, all they could do was wait for the most dreaded hour. It was a small comfort to each that they could at least share those precious last moments. Quiet pools filled with fantasies about the life they could have shared together streamed from Kol and Bonnie's eyes, staining their faces with remorse and regret over the cold hard fact -together they would never have an opportunity to make those fantasies come to fruition.
"Bonnie," he looked up at her through wet eyes.
"Yes, Kol?"
"Swear to me you'll love me for all time," he said as he felt that pearly hue come over his eyes.
"Of course I will,"
"No swear to me," he flashed his fangs and bit into his wrist. "On the strength of our blood bond,"
He took her hand and gently bit into her wrist as well. He sucked her blood slowly as she drank from him too.
"I swear, on my blood in your veins, and your blood in mine. I will love you for all time, Kol Mikaelson,"
"And I will love you, for all time. This is my most sacred vow to you,"
Kol's bloodied pout claimed Bonnie's lips in a wild kiss smeared blood on one another's faces, but neither party seemed to concern themselves with that. He busied himself fondling down her body creating a trail to what was formerly regarded as no man's land, until his mouth and fingers colonized that very land the previous night. Bonnie percolated against him, begging for more friction. He pulled her robe off, sucking in his breath when she was fully nude before him. In an instant Kol stripped down to nothing and pulled Bonnie in a firm hold by the back of her neck, kissing her furiously as he pressed her down into the bed, settling between her legs. With a pounding heartbeat and fear frying her nerves, Bonnie sucked in an audible gasp, digging her nails into Kol's back as he entered her for the first time…
Bonnie's POV
… Bonnie woke up suddenly from the erotic dream she was having. She looked around, realizing she was in Klaus's private jet, in the master chambers. Damon sat in the corner, staring at her like a creeper, with that dumb smirk on his face.
"You dreaming of me, Witchy?"
"Shut up," she grumbled. The dream she had was haunting because it was depicted a happier ending with Kol, which was not at all what transpired. Though they did strengthen their blood bond, it turned out all to be for naught due to the spell Bonnie performed with Davina. The last thing she heard from Kol was him screaming her name, demanding she return to him.
Davina collected samples of blood from Bonnie and Kol, pouring it into a goblet. Bonnie was grateful for once that Davina had blocked her magic because all day she had been feeling such trepidation for what she was about to do. Had her magic been active, Kol would've known something was wrong. Not even the blood bond allowed him the sensations her magic usually gave away. It was part of why she could never lie to Kol.
Kol was under the pretense that Davina and Genevieve had concocted a way to slow down the effects of the hex, using the power a dagger wielded. He had been initially informed that it could only be strengthened and Bonnie figured it was desperation for survival that drove him to consider that something could be done, despite what he'd initially been told.
What really transpired was this: Bonnie performed a cloaking spell with Davina acting as a conduit to redirect the magic before it affected Kol. It was a shield, a cloaking spell that would keep Kol and Bonnie off Esther's supernatural radar until Bonnie was able to take it down. Esther hadn't yet resurrected and it was discovered that she was waiting for the hex to take effect, since it was hex activated by her own death, she would be watching from the other side, anticipating her return. With Kol cloaked, she wouldn't be able to discern when she could come back and it still wasn't clear exactly how she could resurrect.
The loophole was Kol could live on but he couldn't be within the vicinity of Bonnie or her magic, they were to be cloaked from each other so she could still use her magic. He wouldn't be able to feel her or the effects of their blood bond as long as the shield was in place. But he would survive for the time being. Until Bonnie found a way to dispatch Esther for good.
"Bonnie, it's time," Davina said, with a sympathetic look. She had just unblocked Bonnie's magic and had previously warned her they needed to work quickly once her magic was back in place.
Bonnie turned to the love of her life, gripping his hands. "Whatever happens, just know that I love you and I know there's kindness, and light in your heart. And not just because of me, because that's who you are at your core. I know that, I feel it with all of my heart,"
" You are my light," Kol said, clutching her hands as if he'd never let go.
"No Kol, it's in you. Or I wouldn't have fallen so deeply in love with you. The sun has shined brighter since I met you. Remember that," Bonnie gave him an impassioned kiss before she stepped back and joined hands with Davina and held onto the goblet, chanting the spell. Kol attempted to follow but an invisible barrier was erected between he and the witches, with him alone on one side.
"Bonnie, what's…" confusion marred his chiseled features.
"A million years from now, I'll be loving you still,"
"What have you done? Let me out! Bonnie! BONNIE!" He grew panicked and banged on the barrier looking into Bonnie's eyes as she disappeared before his eyes.
Davina squeezed Bonnie's hand. "Go now. And good luck, Bonnie Bennett,"
Bonnie nodded and turned away before she could further witness Kol losing his fucking mind on the other side of the barrier. She fled from the room, meeting Damon around the corner and heard Davina trying to reason with Kol.
"Not until you calm down,"
"WHERE IS SHE? You will all die if you don't LET ME OUT NOW! BONNIE COME BACK!"
Damon said nothing, just grabbed Bonnie and zipped away.
"How much longer until we land?" Bonnie asked the blue eyed vampire.
"Two hours,"
Bonnie didn't know why Damon was there, why he didn't return to Mystic Falls to help Elena but he had saved her mom's life instead of just killing her as he was compelled to do. He'd taken a huge risk taking her to New Orleans to stop Esther, they were so close to finding the cure. He'd even spared a teenaged doppelgänger for some reason. He'd been turning up at her side a lot lately and that gave her a strange feeling of comfort. Right now, she just wanted -no she needed- to be wrapped up in it.
"Damon," she said quietly, her voice shaking. "Could you hold me for the next two hours?"
Before Bonnie had even completed that request, Damon was at her side. He kneeled before her, gazing into her emerald eyes with remorseful ocean eyes. He cupped her chin in her hands and watched as a silent tear slid down her cheek. He leaned in closer and said, "Of course,"
Immediately she threw her arms around him and he slowly shifted his position so she was laying on his chest while he lounged against the pillows on the mattress
As much as she tried, she couldn't stop the tears from gushing all over Damon's signature onyx Henley.
"I'm sorry,"
"Bonnie for once, don't be sorry. I'm here, and I'm not going anywhere. So get used to it, because you're stuck with me,"
It wasn't a request, he was simply stating the facts.
AN: I could not squeeze everything I wanted to in this chapter so I mainly focused on the last day our beloved Kennett was Kennett.
More to come with Klaus & little Hope, and then we will go back to the future and await a Kennett reunion!
Wanted to add the part where Hope is playing with her toys. My kids, my nieces & nephews, their friends. They ALL did that around the same age too, thought it was totally cute to include that.
Also, I'm working on a crossover between Mine, GYB, and Closer (my other two fics where Kai & Kol are obsessive & stalkery, respectively) and I will also be including a special guest in this crossover so please stay tuned for that! Check out those stories if you want it all to make sense, please read, share, add comments or kudos and let me know if you're enjoying! :D
One more thing!
Not that, but I've got one more chapter to finish out what went down in NOLA. One final look at the past before we move onto the future.
