Toni's POV
Toni had no idea who the three glowing beauties were but she decided she'd ask those questions later when they eventually rendezvous again. So many questions were swirling through her mind, like why was it up to her find Archie, how the fuck would she find him when it had been three years already, and why couldn't she tell anyone? All she needed was her bag and her cellphone, being no stranger to living in the wind before.
She grabbed her shit and rushed outside and into her backyard, nearly tripping over a body that was laying there. "Jughead?"
The young man in question sat up in a daze. "Toni?"
"Are you ok?" She asked.
"You're pink," his eyes washed over her in disbelief. "and you smell great. Why do you smell so good?" He leaned in uncomfortably close to inhale more of her scent.
"Stop. Jug, what are you doing here?" Toni asked after she shoved him away.
"Oh, I just came to… uh," he blinked in confusion. "I came by because… I don't know. Something weird is going on. Do you wanna go to Pop's? Maybe we can figure it out over some coffee,"
"Actually, I need to bounce but I'll catch up with you later, ok?"
"Oh, let me guess. You and Cheryl?" He asked with a knowing smile.
Toni stared at him for a moment. Jughead didn't seem to remember the verbal sparring that had taken place hours prior, mentioning Cheryl so casually, as if she weren't a steady-growing rival.
"Yes," Toni said flatly. "And uh, you have a date with Betty. In fact, you're late!"
"Dammit, I'm late!"
"I'd hurry. She'll be worried but she'll understand. She loves you," Toni assured him.
Toni waited until he left before she dug into her secret stash of cash in the potted plant inside the potted black, framing the back patio. Racing back to the front of the house, she saw flashes of light illuminating her home again. She wasted no time starting the engine on her motorcycle. As the engine roared to life, Toni took a deep breath, theorizing this could be the last time she saw home. Unfortunately, this wasn't the memory of home she wanted burned into her subconscious.
Determined to finally get to the bottom of this mysterious prophecy that appeared to be unfolding anyway, she took one last look at her house before she rode off into the night, stopping only once at a rest stop in Greendale to make a call.
"Davina," she said when the harvest witch answered. "I need some answers,"
"Come to New Orleans, I'll be waiting,"
Hayley's POV
Hayley purposefully strutted her stuff alongside Davina and Kol as they marched up to the gates of St Joseph's cemetery. She didn't even have to because they were cloaked but she figured she should always make an entrance no matter where she was going. She felt the adrenaline pumping through her veins with what she was about to do. Coming face to face with the woman who'd tried to kill her and her daughter while she was pregnant was slightly daunting, but a confrontation was far overdue. Everyone knew Hayley as a werewolf, but a lesser-known fact was that her mother was a witch. Having never known her mother due to growing up in foster care, she came into contact with a pair of witches in her early teens, who'd help her hone her magic. She had become quite gifted but kept her powers to herself, only using them when she truly had to.
Her death and transition to a hybrid blocked her ability to wield magic since witches couldn't be vampires, but her witch blood was already part of Hope. Also being conceived of vampire blood as well as wolf, Hope was born with the makings of a tribrid species, only she had yet to trigger the canine and immortal curse. It was morbid poetry that she was born a witch, but to activate her other sides, she needed to cycle through claiming a life and giving up her own to be born into her true immortal existence. At only seven years old, Hayley wished with all her heart the inevitable was a long way off, given the world they lived in.
She looked at Kol, who always wore either a look of determination, usually indicating imminent rage or malice, or thoroughly amused, which again could also indicate imminent rage or malice. But in that moment, he looked focused, and dare she say, at peace? Maybe not peace but he was certainly resolute in his quest to finally end his mother. It was the only path that would lead him back to his beloved Bonnie. With the help of Hope and Davina putting together a spell, and the knowledge Hayley had of weaving spells together, Kol and Hayley were temporarily imbued with magic of their own. It was only enough to last the day but it would be enough to take out Esther.
"You ready for this?" Hayley asked Kol. "It's only been a few years for me, but you've been without your magic for over a thousand years," she knew Kol was known as prodigal witch in his human days but-
Kol twisted his hand up and the gates of the cemetery opened. "It feels like just yesterday," he sighed in awe- okay, still a prodigy. That was great to know, Esther would be taken by surprise by three gifted witches. She wouldn't see them coming at all.
Kol gestured towards the entrance. "Ladies,"
A tall, strawberry blond-bobbed woman came strolling down the main corridor in the graveyard. "Davina Claire. If you're wondering why you aren't in agonizing pain from within yet, it's because I want to hear it from your lips, why you've betrayed my mother,"
"Who are you?" Davina asked.
"Oh, you don't know? I'm the oldest of the Originals," the woman replied.
"Freya?"
She just smirked. She definitely had that Mikaelson smirk.
"Kol, do you have a sister named Freya?" Hayley inquired in a small voice.
"I did , she died before Elijah was born," Kol was eyeing Freya curiously.
"So what's your deal?" Freya started pacing to the side slowly. "And who are you hiding?"
"I was supposed to help her but… I met someone who's become so important to me. I fell in love with an Original," Davina admitted.
Kol rolled his eyes and Hayley groaned. "Please tell me you didn't use the L-word on her,"
"Of course not! I sent her home when she expressed those sentiments. She's rather dramatic, isn't she?"
Hayley shoved his shoulder. "Because of you!"
"I fully warned her not to come to bed with me if she thought she'd get attached. Everyone has always been aware that my love for Bonnie is eternal," he shrugged.
Davina was still explaining herself to Freya, saying some of the Originals were redeemable when she'd heard enough.
"Enough!" Freya threw her hands up and sent a ripple through the air, which shattered the cloaking spell Hayley and Kol were under.
Hayley wondered what she'd done to Freya for shooting daggers, as she'd never met or heard of her before. Then Freya locked her gaze on Kol and her face softened.
"Kol?" She looked hopeful when she saw him.
"You… You're Freya?"
She nodded excitedly. "You're a witch? When we met you were vampire. How did you…?"
Kol grinned sheepishly. "Long story. I'm sure you've only heard our mother's version,"
"I've heard many stories about your ruthless killing sprees. But I can feel the witch aura, all over you, it's marvelous! Who's she? Bonnie Bennett?" She nodded to Hayley.
Davina was signing hand signals to Hayley while Kol conversed with his long-lost resurrected sister. Don't do it, Davina!
"I'm Hope's mom," Hayley said quietly.
Freya squinted her eyes and cocked her head. "Who's Hope?"
"The daughter of Niklaus and Hayley,"
The young harvest witch, in a fool's move, attempted to get the drop on Freya with a silent spell. Freya immediately blocked her magic, with a wave of her hand and incapacitated Davina, who fell unconscious. She blocked Kol's magic too, anticipating a strike from him. What she didn't anticipate was a strike from Hayley.
Hayley thrust two hands up, even though she only needed one -she was thrilled for the opportunity to once again wield magic- making sure to target only Freya. " Somnum !"
Freya collapsed into Kol's arms who laid her down, gently.
"Man, she's strong. She didn't see me coming, though!" She chuckled and cracked her neck and knuckles, preparing for another spell.
"Wait!" Kol stood up and held out his hand. "Let's do it together. I don't know if I'll ever have another opportunity," he requested with eager eyes. Hayley smirked and took his hand.
"Here we go," she said. Together, their collective borrowed magic manifested as they teleported out.
Stefan's POV
It was impressive indeed watching Bonnie manifest more powerful magic. She was quite skilled, she'd always taken very well to learning magic. Stefan supposed that's why the expression magic in her early days with Kol came so easily. But this was different, it was the collective magic she and Kai shared and it was dangerous because he'd be able to track her with it. Luckily, Kai wasn't around, but for how much longer that would last, none of the gang could be sure. Damon and Bonnie used his absence to test the limits of Bonnie's newly acquired magic and how it could work in conjunction with their vampire circle in order to better anticipate surprise attacks from Kai when he inevitably returned.
Bonnie blasted Damon with a burst of luminescent magic when he appeared suddenly behind her. It was clear to Stefan that he was feigning greater injury than actually wounded him, but Bonnie rushed over to help him up. Stefan rolled his eyes, his brother needed to take a hint.
She helped Damon up but when he wouldn't release her hand, he jerked his hand away. "God, why do you burn?!"
"Because," she raised her brows and chin, searing him with a look. "Hands off the merch," she then addressed Stefan. "I have to go, Caroline and I are going to restock up on sage. And Elena's meeting us tonight at the frat party with Liam,"
He nodded and stared at Damon, who watched her walk off. "Damon," Stefan shook his head. "When are you going to take a hint?"
"When are you going to understand, our dance is the way of the birds and bees, Stefan. I'm getting through to her, I know it. Besides, who better to spend copious amounts of money and time with, if not your best friend?" Damon raised a brow.
"I should kick your ass, just for saying that. You killed Lexi,"
"But she came back!"
"And now I have to go see her without you, and you're always around,"
"I meant your best friend that you can also have mind-blowing sex with. That would be Caroline for you, and eventually Bonnie for me," Damon said, nudging his shoulder.
"Right," Stefan laughed. "That'll be the day. Have you forgotten about Kol?"
"Irrelevant, he's not here. In fact, the longer he stays away, the better." Damon had a faraway look in his eyes, that had Stefan concerned. As far as Stefan knew, Bonnie would never go for Damon. She'd only had a handful of dates that he knew of, courtesy of Elena and Caroline's gossiping, since leaving Kol, and none of them were Damon, nor did any last for very long because her heart wasn't in it. Unless there was something Damon wasn't telling him and he was a master of discretion. Only his vampire senses told him Bonnie was still chaste, if Damon had ever the opportunity to get closer to her, it would not have gone to waste, rendering her chastity null and void.
"What the hell are you talking about?"
"You wouldn't understand, little brother," Damon replied with a sigh.
Prison world four months ago
Damon's POV
He could feel the heavy weight of her emotions as he listened to her cries, feel the pulse of her pounding as Bonnie despaired. No longer able to stand it, he went to her. He heard her crying most nights but on this particular night, he couldn't take it anymore. Maybe it was with the uncontrollable force with which she was weeping, as she usually sobbed softly and quietly. He opened the door to the room she was staying in; it was Stefan's room, she stayed there because she wanted a sense of familiarity with something or someone she knew well. This was aside from Kol, she had stopped mentioning him completely almost two years ago. Bonnie just wanted some semblance of home and the life she'd built for herself after Kol.
Bonnie sat up quickly, wiping her tears. "What is it, Damon?" she inquired with a wet, nasally voice.
"You're crying," he said, walking towards her. "What's wrong?"
"I can't take it anymore. This isn't peace at all. This is loneliness and isolation, a punishment that I didn't know I deserved,"
The tears began flowing again and Damon pulled her into his arms. "Bonnie, I've been looking at it like that since day one and I think my shitty attitude is getting to you,"
"You think?" she murmured from his chest.
"But the way I'm trying to see it, is that we're stuck here together and we don't have to fall apart. We can try to be happy as long as we're here. If it wasn't for you, I'd keep sulking but you really suck all the joy out of it when you start crying like that,"
She stifled a small giggle. "Shut up, I'm in pain,"
"But as much as it hurts, you can still feel. And believe it or not, Bonnie, that's a beautiful thing. It means there's still hope,"
"No, Damon, there is no hope for us. All we have to look forward to is the same day, each day," she said with a solemn sigh.
Damon grabbed her face in his hands, forcing her to look up into his eyes. "Then why not make the same day on repeat, the best fuckin day you could have? With just two people present, but still,"
Bonnie appeared captivated by the grasp he had her in and Damon watched her eyes drop down to his lips then instantly shoot up. She pulled away as if abashed at being caught red-handed with desire. That look opened the floodgates of his own desire and Damon could not contain himself. His fingertips grabbed her chin, pulling her emerald gaze back to his ocean eyes. Damon looked at her lips and swiped his tongue across his own.
"Damon, please," she whispered, suddenly unable to take her eyes off his lips. The scent of her desire floated into his nostrils and he was done. He leaned in and locked his lips onto hers. She was surprisingly receptive, kissing him back with a hunger that he sensed was from being touch deprived for the past four months. Damon was too, but now that he had her on his mouth, he was going to take all of her. While still latched on to her mouth, he began to pull the shoulders of her oversized sweater down.
Already hard at the prospect of being her first and hopefully her only, Damon wanted her undressed and open for him instantly. Not that he wouldn't take his time and be gentle, but he'd been pining for her for years and he couldn't wait to taste the love that was her.
The sound of something heavy crashing downstairs halted them in their tracks. Damon groaned and zipped down to see what was going on, with Bonnie hurrying behind. It was then that they first encountered Kai Parker, who after some truly vexing interrogation over two days, revealed that there is a way out. On the third day, Damon was home free, Bonnie stuck with that psychopath. It was just his fucking luck that as soon as they breached the threshold of more than friends, she was out of his reach, once again. She never did want to discuss the passionate kiss that he was certain he didn't dream up, and he knew not to press her.
"You just wouldn't understand," Damon repeated as his mind worked through some haunting memories.
Mystic Falls
Bonnie's POV
Bonnie and Caroline brought all the sage bundles they could find to the register. The reddish auburn-haired cashier gaped at all the herbs in front of her. "Is there a reason you're buying out all my sage?"
The Bennett witch smiled quickly, "Family reunion. My family's very uhh… superstitious,"
"Uh-huh," the cashier said warily. Bonnie didn't sense any actual magic vibes from the cashier. There was no need to inform her of the despicable plot of a madman she'd uncovered. "You know what? Everything is half off. Consider it a gift from a good samaritan. I won't ask, but when witches stockpile supplies, it's got to be for a good reason,"
"Thank you so much," Bonnie said with a sigh of relief.
"You're literally a lifesaver," Caroline added with a relieved smile.
The cashier leaned over and put her hand on Bonnie's arm. "No problem, Bonnie," she smiled so wide, it began to unnerve the witch.
"How do you know my name?"
"You're Bonnie Bennett aren't you? You're famous in the supernatural world,"
"Right," Bonnie gently shook her arm free of the woman's hand before she turned to Caroline as both women gathered the bags the cashier had packed. "Ok, where should we start?"
"The dorm and your houses first, then the boardinghouse definitely. I don't want to leave you but it would be much quicker to split up," Caroline said as they left the establishment. Bonnie turned back to see the cashier was still grinning at her. Something about her smile was not right.
"That was weird. Did you see the way she was looking at me?"
"Yeah, maybe she was just beyond fascinated to meet an actual witch? That can't happen very much for her," Caroline guessed as they walked to her car. "Ok, I'm going back to Whitmore but I'll take this by the guys first,"
Caroline dropped Bonnie off at her childhood home. Bonnie opened her front door and stepped inside, placing the bag with her sage bundles on the entryway table.
"You shut your mouth, how can you say? I go about things the wrong way," a woman's voice singing the lyrics floated into her eardrums.
"What the hell," Bonnie muttered. It sounded like it was coming from her backyard.
Bonnie stepped around the side of her house and followed the singing sounds. When she reached the backyard, she found that the water hose knob was turned all the way on and leaking, though there was no one in sight. Groaning, she leaned down to shut off the faucet, when she heard singing again, directly behind her.
"I am human and I need to be loved. Just like everybody else does,"
Bonnie whirled around to face the cashier of the magic she'd just left. She grinned that creepy smile again before the hose was pulled taut out from under her, tripping her on her bottom. She looked up, only to be met with a face full of water, as the woman sprayed her all over with the water hose. Bonnie sputtered and choked as she became drenched.
You understand I got a plan for us
I bet you didn't know that I was dangerous
It must be fate I found a place for us
I bet you didn't know someone could love you this much
Nobody's listening when we're alone
Nobody's listening, there's nobody listening
No one can hear us when we're alone
No one can hear us, no
No one can hear us

"I heard you've been looking for me," Standing before Bonnie, much to her dismay, was Kai Parker, occupying the same space the cashier was just in. There was no fucking cashier, it was Kai the whole time! He threw the hose down and smiled down at her. "Gotta say, I'm flattered, Bonbon. Well, here I am," he dropped the hose and smirked.
Kai reached down and grabbed her arms, yanking her up, pressing her against him. To Bonnie's horror, she found he was able to wield magic against her because the sage had been rinsed off. By water. What a fucking insulting loophole. They disappeared into a teleportation spell, landing in his apartment. Bonnie fought her way out of his grip, falling to the floor.
"Bonnie, you're ruining my carpet," he pouted and threw a spell at her that rendered her clothing dry. "There, that's better. Now, we should probably get going,"
Bonnie stood up, scowling with all the indignation in her. "I'm not going anywhere with you,"
Suddenly, Bonnie was in the boardinghouse, only it was the 1994 version of it.
"Do you like it?" Kai said from behind her. "This is where we first met,"
He grabbed her and siphoned her. She cried out, nearly falling over. "Where the hell are we? This isn't the prison world," It can't be!
"No," he said, taking a seat in an armed chair. "It takes a big spell to create a prison world, Bonnie," he addressed her slowly, as if she was a child who couldn't very well comprehend.
"You'd need the power of your coven," Bonnie reminded him.
"I am the coven. And so are you,"
You and your bullshit! "What is this place, Kai?"
"It's called a Chambre de Chasse. You can't get out unless I let you out and I don't think I'll be doing that. Not until we're ready for our prison world adventure. But you already know that, don't you?"
Bonnie wasn't sure if Kai was bluffing or not. She was trapped in some illusion with him, there had to be a way out. He was likely lying as usual to keep the advantage.
"Oh come on. Did you think I'd just let you keep running away from me, that I'd continue to chase you forever? I know you saw what I've got planned. A world for just you and me baby, and of course our loyal subjects."
Bonnie laughed. "You're delusional, Kai. I saw that but I'm not going back to that prison with you! You had a whole coven who could've had your back and took to your creepy prison world but you killed them all! You blew your own shot at redemption,"
Kai crossed his legs and rested his fingertips on his forehead, closing his eyes. "Redemption, right. As if you didn't end up in my own personal hell for a reason."
"Because my grandmother wanted to keep me safe from certain death!" Bonnie hissed.
"So she sends you to me, of all places?" His eyes snapped open.
"Oh, believe me, if there were any other prison worlds where someone actually deserved to be amongst society again, she would've sent me there," Bonnie was positive that was the case. Her Grams meant for her to have peace, maybe it came with one last test; rid the world of the evil that was Kai Parker.
"You think mine was the only prison world? Sooo not the case Bonnie. Mine was only tailored to me. It's no coincidence that Bonnie Bennett ended up there when Bennett blood was what I needed to do the spell. Face the facts, Bonster." That evil smirk never failed as the corners of his lips crept up. "You came into my life to be my savior. Or maybe it's so I can school you in all the ways to be naughty and corrupt. Either way, you and me are fate. And we're going back! "
Bonnie scowled at the bullshit he was spewing and walked away. There was no way she'd ever believe anything he says. If there were other prison worlds and she was sent to Kai's, it had to be because the conditions in the other ones were dangerous. Grams wouldn't send her to be prey to a sociopath, she was surely supposed to emerge from 1994 without Kai.
When she reached the staircase, Kai was standing there. "Where do you think you're going?"
"Away from you," she shoved past him.
Kai sighed and followed her. "Bonnie, why do you hate me so much?"
Bonnie stopped in her tracks and spun around, fuming. "Are you fucking kidding me? You've siphoned me, you tried to rape me, you won't stop torturing me or trying to kill my friends and you shot me with an arrow!"
"Ok well, besides that. C'mon, I'm still a nice guy," he reached over and grabbed her chin. Bonnie slapped his hand away.
"Don't touch me!"
Bonnie ran up the stairs. She went into Stefan's room, searching the shelves. A memory of illusion spells with Kol came back to her. He had told her about the Chambre de Chasse, it was a holding place for those who were otherwise in a state of distress or immediate danger in their physical body. Being in this illusion halted the effects of their physical deterioration, and the only way to emerge from it was to find the item that represented them. Bonnie suspected it would be a grimoire for her.
Kai stood in the doorway, just watching her for a few moments. Every few minutes she'd turn around and scowl at him.
"You know there's a fine line between love and hate,"
"Please refrain from speaking to me, like, ever again,"
"Enough about me, let's talk about you," a sudden silent spell caused Bonnie to lose sensation in her arms and legs and she toppled over. Kai walked over and crouched down next to her. "I'm sorry, did I just make your knees weak?" He laughed before he scooped her up into his arms.
Kai laid her on the bed, sitting down next to her. "Why can't I move?" she asked.
"Because I don't want you to," he brushed her hair behind her ears in a loving gesture and leaned down, nuzzling his nose against her cheek. "But I'll make you a deal. Tell me about your boyfriend annnnd,"
"Never said I had a boyfriend," she muttered, feeling as though her life couldn't get any worse at the moment.
"No, you said, and I quote 'You're weren't cloaked, he's on the way, he'll kill me, and you love him'. Who is he?"
Bonnie shook her head. She would not discuss Kol, she couldn't.
"Fine, what is it with you and Damon then?"
"None of your business."
"You don't wanna talk, that's fine. We can always make out,"
"Please tell me you have an alternative option,"
"You could let me do naughty things to you, while you lie there helpless," he suggested, sweeping a dark, heated gaze over her silhouette.
It just got worse. "And I'm sorry I asked!" She sighed a loud breath.
"What about Damon then. What is it with you two?" Kai said as he laid next to Bonnie and pulled her flush against him.
Oh shit. The fear of being so close to Kai for an extended period of time activated sheer panic and horror to pulse through her. Her chest began heaving, the fact that he could do anything to her right now and she couldn't move because she was fucking paralyzed caused her to have a full-blown panic attack.
"Kai, I can't breathe, I can't,"
"What?"
"You're too close, I can't- I can't with you right next to me,"
"Damn, you really know how to crush a guy's ego," he tsked before he sat up and sat cross legged on the other edge of the bed. "There. I'm not touching you. Happy now?"
Bonnie slowly steadied her breaths.
"Soooo dramatic," he mumbled, shaking his head. "Well, get to your story? I never seen you two even slapping skins," Kai walked two fingers on the bed towards Bonnie.
"Stop it! Damon, he's… he's very close to me. He's a friend, for life, definitely."
"Have you not noticed the way he looks at you?"
"Damon knows not to try me," Bonnie said assuredly. "I can trust him. Which is a lot more than I can say for you,"
Mystic Falls 2010 two weeks after NOLA
In the middle of her Sookie Stackhouse 'I just wanna be normal' moment, she broke down. As far as her future held, there was no Kol, now not even Abby. As a cruel joke, as Bonnie perceived it, the spirit of her ancestors restored her witch magic. What good would it do her now? It was supposed to help keep Kol and everyone she cared about safe. Instead, Bonnie came home feeling like a monumental failure, without her boyfriend, no cure, and her mother had to leave as well, ensuring Kol maintained his distance.
There wasn't a shortage of tears she could cry when she was all alone at night. Going back to school, picking her grades back up, communing with her friends, it all felt too heavy because existing in Bonnie's state of mind hurt like nothing ever before. Even her father, who wasn't even home enough to notice when she was gone, noticed a change in her demeanor. The fact that it took her greatest heartbreak for her dad to notice something was different only angered her and as a result, she shunned him.
Caroline was off helping Tyler come to terms with being a hybrid, so Elena and Bonnie took turns sulking over their newly single status.
"At least he wasn't manipulated into cheating on you with your evil doppelgänger," Elena said as they laid out under the stars in Elena's backyard that night.
"I would forgive him for that. For my evil doppelgänger, not Katherine. If Kol ever touched her, I'd want back everything I ever bought him, including all the damn time I spent wasting on him just to have him mistake me for a vindictive bitch. But even if it was evil me, I'd just want him here. I've made mistakes too," Bonnie sat up and grabbed another drink of Damon's bourbon. A distant look clouded her eyes. "Elena,"
"Yeah?"
"Do you think Kol would still love me if I wasn't a witch? If I just gave up my magic. Then he could be with me right now,"
"How would you-"
Her magic sparked, interrupting Elena. The wind picked up as clouds gathered in the sky, darkening the night. "Bonnie, what are you doing?!" Elena demanded as the wind whipped her pin straight locks around her face.
Bonnie didn't answer as more magic manifested, threatening the climate. She felt the familiar trickle of blood drip from her nostril. She touched it with her finger, examining it. The sight of blood meant that magic was overwhelming her, taking her under. She would gladly go under and wait a thousand years for Kol on the other side if she had to. She smiled, she liked the idea of that. Counting the days to meet him on the other side, as Amy Lee so melodically suggested.
"Bonnie, NO!" Elena's hollering shook Bonnie of her thoughts, startling her and she blasted her with a burst of magic and the doppelganger went flying. Oh shit!
"Elena!" her magic faltered and she ran toward Elena.
"Should've known that was you, Witchy," Damon tsked when he appeared out of nowhere. "Donovan'll take care of her," Damon gestured to the blonde jock who then entered the backyard, rushing to Elena. Damon grabbed the bottle of bourbon. "I'll take care of this,"
Damon whisked her off to the boardinghouse, where once again, a vampire got her inebriated beyond control to tame her emotions. Except, this time, she couldn't contain them and they leaked in the form of haunting karaoke songs.
"At the end of the world
Or the last thing I see
You are never coming home, never coming home
Never coming home, never coming home
And all the things that you never ever told me
And all the smiles that are ever gonna haunt me
Never coming home, never coming home"
She was swaying in Damon's arms, singing loudly and a little off-key but that was forgivable due to her pain and state of intoxication. "Yeah, that was good, hey, how about another song?"
Bonnie sniffed. "Never coming home, never coming home," she whimpered. Using the remote, Damon hit shuffle. The intro to Def Leppard's Pour Some Sugar On Me spurred a new attitude in Bonnie. "Oh, I love this song!"
The next song was Hard by Rihanna ft. Jeezy. Bonnie loved it as well and kept dancing. After that, Damon controlled the music with only girly, poppy, dance music. She danced and sang all night until her voice was hoarse and she could no longer stand up, passing out right as the spins began to take hold.
In the morning, Bonnie opened her eyes and sat up way too fast, plagued by the spins once again. "I've got you,"
Stefan steadied her and fed her his blood, which soothed and healed all traces of alcohol poisoning or a deadly hangover. "Thanks, Stefan but you didn't have to,"
"Actually, I did. There's more alcohol than blood in his system, so…" he said, gesturing to his brother who was passed out on an adjacent couch.
"Why would you want to give your magic up? What, dealing with vampires makes you a black sheep among witches or something?"
Bonnie had conveniently left out the part about Kol as she recanted her memories. "Something like that," she murmured, her gaze fixated in that far-away stare again.
"Who is Sookie Stackhouse?" Kai asked. Bonnie looked over at him, reminded of how incontemporary his tastes actually were.
"A fairy."
"There's fairys? As the leader of the Gemini Coven, I would know if there were fairys," Kai appeared genuinely shocked.
"Maybe the people in charge just don't trust you enough with that knowledge," Bonnie suggested.
Alarmed flashed across his face before Bonnie started laughing. "You should see your face! She's a fairy on a TV show, dumbass. You would know that if you weren't straight outta 1994."
Kai pressed his fingers into his temples and sighed. "So let me guess. One night stand, right?"
"That isn't even where I was- were you dropped on your head too many times as a baby?"
He shrugged. "Probably,"
Bonnie rolled her eyes and continued.
The next morning after being healed from Stefan and forcing Damon to nurse his own hangover, Bonnie was floating on a pool mat at the pool in the Mikaelson estate, with her torso submerged in the water while her chest and feet remained surfaced.
"You can go anytime, Damon," Bonnie muttered.
"And miss the downward spiral? Not when I've got front row seats,"
"Why do you wanna see me spiral, I thought you cared about my well-being now,"
"Exactly," he said. Bonnie waited for him to continue, expressing her perplexity when he didn't. He just laid back in his beach chair, shielding his impossibly bright blues from the sun under aviator-style shades.
"What do you mean?" She asked, somewhat impatiently.
"I do care."
"Do you care to elaborate?"
"Not really." He shrugged and waved his hand in a vague gesture.
"Well, I'm not spiraling, I just miss my boyfriend. I had a momentary lapse in judgment and it won't happen again."
"You don't have to justify your spiral to me,"
"I'm not spiraling," Bonnie insisted.
"Then what was the point of saying all that?
"You don't think I'm ok,"
"Never once did I say that. Although I do think we could all use a good spiral when times get rough. How do you think I felt when Katherine was locked in the tomb?"
"I am not spiraling!" Damon's nonchalant attitude and passive-aggressive accusations over her non-existent spiral were beginning to irritate her. Her magic sparked out of control and the edges of the otherwise warm pool began to freeze over, slowly traveling towards the middle, where Bonnie was. He removed his shades, zipped over, and plucked her from the pool in a huge splash before it froze over.
"Then you need to control your magic, Bonnie," he said firmly as he set her down on another beach chair. "Don't let it control you because your emotions are out of whack, and don't waste it."
Bonnie thrust her gaze down, avoiding his judgey blue eyes. "You wouldn't be the annoying, goody-two shoes, teen witch we all know you to be without your magic and being connected to nature. You love nature and nature loves you back. What's not natural is this, Bonnie. You falling apart and staying in pieces, hurting yourself, and your best friend?"
Damon had a point, of course, but how was Bonnie going to move forward from the love of her life? She hardly wanted to.
"I know Abby and Kol are gone but you're here, and I'm here," he faced her chin towards him. "And you have to keep going."
"I just need some time, Damon. It's not gonna be-"
An exasperated sigh blew from his lips. "Well, I'm all out of motivational speeches. You've got ten fuckin seconds to get it together because I'm not taking care of this place,"
"What are you-"
Damon flashed inside the mansion and returned seconds later, with a formal document in his hand. "Just so you know, I had to sleep with all the people in charge to get this for you," he said smirking as he handed it to her. It was the deed to the Mikaelson estate.
Bonnie gasped. "How?"
"Your mother and Klaus thought it best a human watch over this home, so no vampires catch Elijah slippin. It was supposed to go to Donovan but by human, I figured why not a powerful teen witch, who's not compellable? Oh, and you're supposed to cloak it because they don't want any witches or wolves getting in either."
"I really have this fucking mansion?!" She was ecstatic at the opportunity, only she remembered Elijah still slumbered in his coffin. The thought sent a shudder over her body but she resolved, it was for the best. Elijah would be far more vulnerable where Klaus was no doubt gaining a whole new legion of enemies in New Orleans. Her excitement resumed. "I'm gonna take the room next to Kol's!"
Damon rolled his eyes as he led her to the back door, handing her a key. "I'm way ahead of you, considering how predictable you are,"
Bonnie unlocked the door and slid it open. "Aren't you coming in?"
He cocked his head. "Nah, I'm trusting you to hold it together,"
A huge smile spread across her face as she looked up at him.
"Hello?" Kai was apparently asleep. "Rude ass," she muttered under her breath. She would have kicked him off the bed if it wasn't for her paralysis.
"I'm not rude, I was listening in my sleep." He said with his eyes still closed. "It sounds like the sexual tension just gets heavier between you two. I can practically guess the rest, a PG-13 groping session right?" He opened his eyes and sat up. "What happened to your mansion?"
"I don't know, I'd like to go check but some psychopath has been harassing me ever since I came back, I haven't exactly had the time!"
"Welp, good thing you don't have to worry about Damon and the sexual tension anymore. Who is the vampire in the coffin? Did you fuck him up back in the day?"
Bonnie wanted to kick him. "I really want to kick you right now.
"I'm touched, really Bonnie, by your story but… I still want to kiss you,"
"That's not happening," she shook her head. "Your presence gives me anxiety, remember?"
"If you give me a kiss, I'll release this hand." he tapped her right arm. "If you give me two kisses, both hands,"
"And my legs?"
"Kiss me and we'll talk about the next step,"
Bonnie laughed in his face. "If you put your tongue in my mouth, I swear to God, Kai, I will bite it off, I don't care. I am not kissing you,"
Kai sat up straight again. "You're right, the mood isn't right. How about I serenade you? That'll be romantic,"
He began a loud, high-pitched, and off-key rendition of Knockin on Heaven's Door, plaguing her ears with audio torture and Bonnie was forced to listen because she had no use of her hands to cover her ears.
"Shut up!" growing more aggravated as he continued, Bonnie felt her guts churn as she struggled to form her next sentence. "Fine! I'll kiss you, just stop singing! "
Kai stopped and looked at her in awe. "One kiss," she said.
"Terms have changed, I'm charging you an extra kiss for the concert,"
"Hell NO," Bonnie shook her head with indignation.
"I'm knock, knock, knockin on heaven's dooooorrrrr,"
"Okay, OKAY!"
Bonnie shuddered as Kai climbed on top of her, settling between her legs. "But let my hands go first,"
"After. I don't trust you,"
"I like to pull hair," she offered. His face lit up in reconsideration.
He chuckled. "I didn't know you were so kinky, Bonbon!" Then his face hardened. "Don't try anything funny though, or I'll be forced to- well, you'll see,"
"There's a lot you don't know about me," Bonnie chuckled nervously as Kai leaned in. The mental preparation to get her through the next few moments had her heart pounding more than anything ever had before. Once she felt her arms regain sensation, internal relief flooded her emotions and relaxation was easier to achieve. This was no big deal, she would just pretend she was back in drama with Tyler again, like her sophomore year in high school. It was a stage kiss, it meant absolutely nothing, but she had to sell it! Tall, buff physique, and dark hair, the resemblance was nearly uncanny. She had to keep telling herself that.
Kai didn't hesitate to capture her lips with an open mouth. Repressing the urge to gag, she softly returned the kiss, remembering this was nothing more than a staged kiss. Tangling her fingers in his hair as promised, she let Kai lead and take control of the kiss.
He nipped at her lips as he pulled away, sighing softly. "God, you drive me crazy,"
"If you let my legs go, I'll keep kissing you," Bonnie suggested.
"You know I can't do that," he whispered, peppering kisses on her cheek and down her neck.
"Please, Kai," she pleaded as he pulled her into a sitting position.
"No," He grunted as he reached his hands down and slid them under her shirt, caressing the skin at her sides, tracing over the curve of her waist. "All you have to do is let me have you, Bonnie. I'll give you anything you want,"
Internally she seethed. Outwardly, however, she grabbed Kai by his hair and pulled him back into a kiss, trying to purge the yuck factor from her mind. This time, she took control of the kiss. As Kai dissolved into her liplock, Bonnie held a firm grip on both sides of his cheeks. She let out a long moan as he continued touching her, working his way up the clasp of her bra. To Kai, it was the sound of arousal but the more he kissed and touched her, the more her anger and determination built up, reddening her vision. "Mmmmmm… you know what I want, Kai?"
She had seen every vampire she knew do this hundreds of times. All it took was little force of pressure and-
"What do you want?" He asked, breathlessly. Bonnie quickly and suddenly spun his head to the side with extra pressure so his neck snapped. God, that was satisfying! Kai fell over and the paralysis spell immediately wore off. She kicked him off of her and he fell off the bed.
"I want you to fuck off! PIG!" She spat as she ran from the room. The world around her dissolved and she was back in Kai's apartment. Kai was on the floor, passed out. Bonnie quickly dialed Damon. There was no answer so she called Stefan.
"What's up, Bonnie?" He said as a greeting.
"Stefan! Come get me, Kai is-" she screamed when a suddenly conscious Kai grabbed her legs and threw her to the floor, sending her phone flying. Memories of Davina blocking her magic for the night came back to her. She was holding onto a vial of blood while she recited the incantation. The same red glow happened then as it did when Kai siphoned her, so the spell either required siphon blood or Gemini blood. She would siphon Kai, as he was both. It would have to work, it was a last resort because he wouldn't be able to track her without his magic for at least twenty-four hours. She needed the power of his blood in her hands so Bonnie grabbed a nearby fire poker and stabbed his cheek with it.
"Ahhh!" he screamed as Bonnie smeared his blood on her hands and began the enchantment. Kai tried to cast a spell on Bonnie to no avail. "What the fuck did you do?!"
"How does it feel to be robbed of your magic?" she kicked him off of her and ran to grab her phone hearing Stefan calling out to her. "Stefan, I'm at-"
She was tackled from behind, still somehow managed to keep her phone in hand. Using the powerful magic of her supernatural nuptials, she teleported them into the woods near the Salvatores. "In the woods!" she yelled.
Kai slammed her against the ground. "You shouldn't have done that Bonnie, leading me on like that. This was supposed to be consensual but I'm tired of fucking around with you!"
Bonnie fought Kai in the dirt, as he began to tear at her clothes. It was terrifying, as if having no powers made him all the more rabid. With her state of mind too transfixed to use her own powers, she still did her best to fight him off physically.
In blurry movement, Kai was whisked a few feet from her, while Stefan and Caroline appeared to help her up. "We got you," Caroline whispered as she brought her friend to her feet.
"Every time I get to kill you, it feels even better than the last time." Damon growled as he lifted Kai in a chokehold. "I think I'll rip your head off this time,"
"No, wait, WAIT!" Bonnie ran up to Damon and placed her hand on his arm. "I have another idea. Take off his shirt."
Damon threw Kai to the floor and stepped on his chest, pressing with his boot. "What?! Why?"
"He's got no magic for the next 24 hours. If I banish him to Antarctica, he won't survive past the hour. And even if he does come back, he'll just freeze to death again," she sneered down at Kai. "You'll be dying on a repeated loop, just like in your lonely, lonely world of isolation."
Damon shrugged and nodded, stepping off Kai, who then sat up."Sounds good to me,"
"So vindictive Bonnie. You wanna torture me the way I've tortured you. You realize you're just as evil as me. More evidence of our collective fate. Naughty girl,"
There were no similarities between Bonnie and Kai in her eyes. She was a selfless witch, he was a sociopathic and severely unhinged, cold-blooded murderer. It was an insult for him to even suggest she was close to anything like him. Bonnie wished to slap his shit-eating grin off his face, though she had a feeling he'd enjoy that. A derisive chortle escaped her lips instead. "You wanna know my theory on why fate brought us together, Kai?"
"So I can make you scream my-"
Damon kicked Kai back down to the floor and this time pressed his boot to his throat. "Watch your fuckin mouth, dude," he warned.
Grateful to Damon for silencing his perpetually persistent potty mouth, Bonnie drew her magic to her fingertips. It didn't matter that he still donned his shirt, he would not survive the beyond freezing temperatures of the southernmost continent.
"It's so I can rid the world of the evil that is you. Right now!" Bonnie pulled Damon back, thrust her arms and a beam of magic as she yelled, "Perveniunt frigus! "
The wind howled, creating a great gust of wind as Kai faded from sight. A great feeling of serenity and satisfaction came over Bonnie. She put her hands on Damon's cheek, caressingly, and looked up at him in adoration. Something about him seemed so alluring, she couldn't put her finger on it. He was whispering something but her senses faded. She wondered what was going on as she passed out in his arms.
I know your life is empty
And you hate to face this world alone
So you're searching for an angel
Someone who can make you whole
I cannot save you
I can't even save myself
So just save yourself
I know that you've been damaged
Your soul has suffered such abuse
But I am not your savior
I am just as fucked as you
(I am just as fucked as you)
I cannot save you
I can't even save myself
So just save yourself
Save Yourself -by Stabbing Westward
Caroline's POV
After blasting Kai off to another continent, Caroline watched as Bonnie gazed up at Damon, looking entirely enamored. She appeared dazed, and Caroline guessed the spell somehow took a lot out of her. How, she couldn't be certain but the way Damon slid his fingers in her hair and held her by the waist was suggestive enough before detecting the scent of his arousal. Seriously, BARF! Then she collapsed in his arms, and the pheromones only strengthened in abundance, he was holding her so close.
"Stefan, Damon!" she hissed while gesturing towards the elder brother. Though it had been years, Caroline knew and remembered Damon as an opportunist. The way he preyed on her to get to Elena by means of seduction, the way he compelled Andie Starr and tried to compel Elena when she was human, he was no stranger to taking advantage of the situation when a woman was otherwise vulnerable or at a disadvantage. The only reason he hadn't gotten to Bonnie yet was likely because of the respect she demanded, next to the fact that he was unable to compel her. Bonnie called Damon one of her best friends; yet Stefan and Caroline knew all too well, he'd be willing to throw that away just for a night with her because he was of the mindset that one night with him would make any woman fall in love. Internally she rolled her eyes.
After what she just witnessed with the savage siphon, she couldn't bear to see her friend, her sister taken advantage of by another man, especially not Damon.
Stefan understood her sentiments, and they each rushed forward, separating them. Caroline retrieved Bonnie in her arms, while Stefan pulled Damon back.
"What the fuck?" Damon yelled. Caroline bared her fangs at him before she flashed away with Bonnie.
At the boardinghouse, Caroline laid Bonnie on a bed in a guest room. She sat with her and waited, eventually lighting and wafting sage so she couldn't hear Stefan and Damon arguing downstairs.
A few hours later, Caroline was dozing off when she heard Bonnie suddenly shoot up, gasping, pulling at her tattered clothes. "He's cold! He's freezing!" she shrieked. "I need to go to him, he needs me!"
"Bonnie NO!"
Caroline rushed to her side, putting her hands on Bonnie to enter her mind. From Antarctica, he was tormenting her with his own suffering. His icy cold death was repeatedly being felt by Bonnie and she was in pain.
"Oh God, Bonnie," she murmured. She changed the climate to the summertime of Mystic Falls and only then, did Bonnie calm down, and Caroline pulled them both out of her mind. "He's not your responsibility, you can't save him, I don't care what he says. He's nothing but evil,"
"I can still feel him," Bonnie whispered. "I shouldn't be able to, he shouldn't be able to do magic right now!"
Caroline hugged her tightly. "What are we gonna do?"
"A cloaking spell, Witchy." Both women looked to the side to see Damon in the doorway. "Make sure it's protected by sage,"
Bonnie agreed and got to work, immediately. Only, once she was done, she again collapsed, exhausted by the magic.
"What the fuck?!" Caroline cried. "God, what is he doing to her! It's only her second year in college and he's already ruining her life!"
Damon paced in a circle, then he pulled out his phone. When the other party answered, Damon said, "It's bad. We need your help,"
Caroline's heart sank when she heard his voice.
Kol's POV
Right now, Kol was thanking the heavens and fate that Damon didn't kill Abby, if not for her being the sole reason Klaus was kept occupied while Davina, Hope, Hayley, and even Freya helped assist with the magic that finally took out Esther. It took a village but Esther was no longer a problem. He couldn't wait to reveal this to Bonnie.
Kol felt liberated and proud of the fact that he'd got to witness his mother's final demise, even though it took a few weeks. He still robbed Nik of the privilege, thank you, Abby!
He blew up Bonnie's phone, excited to tell her that he would be on his way to Mystic Falls any day now and nothing could ever keep them apart again. Of course, she didn't answer but that was likely to be expected, she didn't yet know the path was now clear.
He was giddily packing his suitcase when he heard the familiar sound of a three-way quarrel.
"Klaus, Abby would never put Hope in danger! You know that! She just wants to protect her daughter, who better to do that than the love of her life?" Hayley was yelling.
"Obviously he's strong-armed Davina into a sob story about Bonnie being in danger. He's manipulated you both and he's using my daughter for his foolishness?!" Klaus thundered.
"Something is going on with Bonnie, Nik! We need to go to Mystic Falls!" Abby shouted.
Kol looked around the room, thinking of an exit plan when Klaus burst in the door, wielding a dagger that was indeed dipped in white oak ash. Alarmed, Kol flashed to the window but as he reached it, Klaus's phone rang. Abby answered it and all Kol could hear was Damon saying the situation was bad.
"We need your help," he said. Abby handed the phone to Klaus. Apparently, she didn't want to hear whatever the bad news was.
"What is it?" Klaus asked.
"It's Bonnie," Salvatore said. Kol flashed over to Nik, who held the dagger up in one hand, keeping him at bay. The anxiety nearly caused his heart to pound out of his chest. He locked eyes with Abby and the look in her eyes gave him tremendous grief.
AN: The details of Esther's much overdue demise will be recapitulated by Kol, soon
Also wanted to that Toni's scenes are meant to be ambiguous until she crosses path with the main characters. It'll all make sense soon! You guys will find out when she does, what her part in all this is!
