After our meeting in the cemetery, two weeks passed with no occurrence. The days were so normal and uneventful that it was almost unbearable.
Even at work it was too quiet. Too slow. Too peaceful.
By the end of each shift, I had so much energy that I stopped taking the bus and instead walked to my apartment. It was at the other end of Mystic Falls and it took me a good hour to get there, but it was worth it just because of the sunrise that I could admire every day.
Sometimes I just sat on a bench with a coffee and watched the sun rise between the trees. It was a magical sight. One of the few moments when I found real peace.
The October air was cool and fresh, but that made my hot coffee all the better. Autumn gave me a warm feeling with its colors and smells, as well as the whole Halloween decoration that was now popping up everywhere.
I closed my eyes and breathed in the fresh morning air that mixed with my coffee. When I opened it again, I noticed in the corner of my eye how something was moving.
I turned my head to the side and saw a raven sitting on the back of the bench.
We stared at each other for a few minutes before I reached out and stroked the black plumage. Instead of flying away, the raven came closer to me and let me scratch it.
The raven was now so close to me that he touched my shoulder and instead of climbing on top of me, he jumped onto my lap and made himself comfortable there.
We watched the sunrise together.
