CHAPTER 2:

It was quickly approaching nightfall in Midtown Manhattan and the moon had just peeked out from behind a large building as Loki observed Alexia slipping out of the tower.

Loki had been reading a magazine that had been left on the coffee table by one of the Avengers, constantly fighting the urge to scoff at how ridiculous all of it was.

While Asgard was no stranger to controversy or drama, Midguardians never ceased to remind him just how easily impressed they were, getting such enjoyment out of a trashy piece of literature.

While not unusual for the Avengers to slip out at ungodly hours, for some reason, he was drawn to Alexia's leaving

The girl- Alexia or Lex as the others referred to her as, seemed to despise Loki, going out of her way to avoid him.

Then again, this was nothing new, Loki had met several people who had expressed a similar resentment towards him. Attempting to take over a planet seems to do that sort of thing he observed, smirking as he reminisced.

Perhaps it was boredom or simply curiosity that caused Loki to follow after Alexia, quickly flicking his wrist, casting an invisibility spell over himself as he followed her into the elevator, slipping in just before the doors closed.

Now that he was in such close proximity to her, Loki took a moment to observe her, beginning with her platinum blonde hair tied back tightly into a ponytail.

Loki had never been one to go for blondes but he figured he could potentially make an exception for her as his eyes trailed down the rest of her body.

Like Natasha, Alexia was quite skilled in combat, something he had noted after seeing her practice down in the training room. There was something different about Alexia though, something he just couldn't put a finger on. He hated not knowing and it drove him nearly mad trying to figure out what exactly was so different.

As Alexia made her way briskly down the street, Loki followed behind, thankful for the lack of people on the streets that night.

When Alexia had finally settled down by an abandoned warehouse, Loki decided to take a walk around the warehouse, trying to figure out what would've brought her to this seemingly empty area. As he walked past a dark alley, a dog's loud barking rang through the air and he sighed, clearly frustrated.

Even though Loki was still invisible, dogs were a particularly irritating exception and nearly always seemed to sense his presence.

In order to get the dog to be quiet, Loki quickly summoned a large bone, tossing it into the alleyway, sighing in relief as the dog's ear-piercing barks came to a halt.

Walking back to where Alexia had decided to settle, he paused in the shadows to watch her, holding in a chuckle at how unsettled she looked.

That was when he decided to have some fun as he moved beside her, discarding his invisibility. He quickly snagged her gun, smirking at her as she startled back away from him.

He rose to his feet as Alexia pulled out her knife, waving it around dangerously in front of her.

'Silly mortals' he thought 'Always so ready to fight whatever scares them.'

As she made a lunge towards him, Loki was already three steps ahead of her, using his magic to trip her up, sending her tumbling into him.

What he hadn't accounted for was how solidly built she was, throwing him off balance and to the ground. As she pinned him to the ground, Loki couldn't help but let his mind wander.

If only their positions were swapped he thought for a moment. The imagined scene quickly dissipated though with the feeling of the cold metal of her blade on his neck. Was this it? Did he live all of his life to be taken out by a mere mortal? Pathetic.

Surprisingly though, she quickly pulled herself off him, kicking him in the side for added measure, causing Loki to roll his eyes at how unnecessary the action was.

"Goddammit Loki, what are you doing here? You're supposed to be getting babysat by Stark and Thor not ruining my mission" She said, clearly upset

Loki raised an eyebrow at the word 'babysat'. He hated the thought of being compared to a child, especially one that needed to be watched over. Loki had to admit though, Alexia was quite cute when she was trying to be mad and it only fueled the smirk on his face

"Well, I couldn't let you have all the fun out here alone darling" He'd respond, making sure to fully embrace his Silvertongue. She looked quite displeased at his attempt at charm and he rose, listening to her pointless attempts to get him to leave, brushing off his dark black suit.

He looked down at her as she rose as well, quirking an eyebrow at her, chuckling at her attempts to look menacing. She really was quite the defiant mortal, unlike most of the other Midguardians who trembled as he looked among them. He watched the cogs turn in her mind as she thought about something, her eyes suddenly turning to fright as the bright lights of several flashlights shone on them.

"Behind you!" He called out to her but it was too late, the person behind her had already knocked her out cold with the end of a flashlight.

As Alexia crumpled to the ground, he felt a thump on the back of his head as well, spinning around, green orbs already positioned in his hands. Loki glared down at the man behind him, holding his flashlight out defensively, looking quite shocked as Loki slammed his green orb of magic into him.

Loki continued to use his magic to keep the attackers at bay. Now he realized the true meaning of Amelia's stakeout at the warehouse as he struggled to defend himself from the group that was rapidly surrounding him.

The click of cold metal around his ankles distracted him as he looked down in confusion at the metal cuffs around his ankles, summoning his magic to remove them. Surprisingly though, every attempt he made to call upon his magic was unsuccessful, at most a small crackle of energy appearing in his palms.

Loki roared out in anger, resorting to swinging his fists at anything and everything that he could reach, connecting with a few of his attackers before cuffs were quickly thrown onto his wrists.

Someone grabbed onto the back of Loki's suit and he writhed around in their grasp, trying to do something- anything to get out of their grasp.

His results were unsuccessful and he was drug into the warehouse, the continuous clashes of their flashlights with his skin every time he attempted to free himself.

He couldn't let this happen again. He couldn't get thrown back into a dark, dingy cell all alone.

But it had happened. Loki was trapped. He slammed his arms around, trying to free himself, trying anything and everything to rid himself of his restraints.

Looking over to the cell beside him, he saw Alexia still slumped down in her chair and he found himself feeling conflicted.

Perhaps all this was his fault.

Quickly the thought drifted away though and he scoffed at the ridiculousness of it. Of course it wasn't his fault. She was the one to draw so much attention to their location. She was the one to choose to take the mission. Surely it couldn't be his fault.

Loki did the one thing he knew could calm his mind. He meditated, trying to distract himself with the scene of a flowering green pasture, the breeze drifting softly over him. Loki turned and saw a woman walking towards him. A woman with unmistakable platinum blonde hair and shimmering grey eyes. Loki sighed, even when he was trying to relax, a figment of her had to creep into the depths of his mind.

He had to admit she looked stunning. In a soft blue summer dress, she sat beside him, looking out at the sky, her hand resting gently on his knee. For a moment, just a moment, Loki was able to let himself relax, feeling comfort from the touch.

Unfortunately, Loki was rudely snapped out of his meditations by the gruff voice of one of the guards. The calm and serene scene was replaced by a repulsive mortal who slapped him roughly along his face. The guard grabbed him and tightly wrapping a coarse, itchy piece of fabric around his eyes, pulling him out of the cell.

Loki felt a small trickle of blood drip down his face but he ignored it, not wanting to let the guard have the pleasure of him even acknowledging it.

Loki was deposited in a new room, the blindfold tore from his eyes as he looked around the room wearily. On the bright side, this room didn't look at all like any of the chambers the Mad Titan had thrown him in for countless days of torture. Loki held in a tremble as he brought back all those memories from the dark pit of his mind he had thrown them in.

A woman opened the door and Loki looked over to see who had entered. The woman had jet black hair with eyes that sent a chill down Loki's spine. Loki had seen eyes like that before. Power-hungry eyes that were willing to do anything to succeed. Before he had been defeated, the Mad Titan too had those same eyes. These eyes were one of the few things that truly terrified him.

The woman sat down and looked at him "Well… Mr. Laufeyson. What a pleasure to see you here." She said, looking over him coldly

Loki glared at her "That is not my name." He stated, just as coldly

"Oh pity… Unfortunately, you're the one with the chains so it seems you'll just have to put up with it."

"What do you want from me?" he'd growl at her

"I want you to tell me who sent you here" She'd say, looking at her nails as she waited for Loki to respond

Loki paused, realizing he didn't quite know the answer to that question. Naturally, he couldn't let her know that though and he smirked at her "I'll never tell you."

The woman clenched her fists angrily "Fine then. If you want to be like that we can have it nicely arranged for you." The woman rose to her feet, walking over to Loki " What a pity… It would've been quite nice having you as an asset" Before Loki could react, her hand fluttered over his mouth and a muzzle had replaced where his mouth had been.

Loki grimaced in pain as the muzzle dug itself into his skin. Loki had hated the muzzle when he was forced to wear it all those years ago and he hated it even more now, not knowing if there would be a potential for removal now. When Thor had put the muzzle on Loki before, he saw in Thor's eyes the pain it caused him and Loki knew it was only a matter of time before the muzzle was removed. Now though, the woman seemed intent on leaving the muzzle on until either he was killed or starved to death, whichever came first.

Loki looked to the door as Alexia was carried in, grimacing at the rough treatment she was given by the guard. If he were able to speak he surely would've come up with some quip but now all he could do was sit in silence and watch.

"Now... I hope you'll be a bit more compliant than your friend over there. Unfortunately, this was the only way we could deal with him… He's been rather difficult" The lady said and Loki rolled his eyes, resorting only to body language now as a means to express himself.

Alexia looked over at him, clearly in shock and Loki nodded his head in acknowledgment, trying to give her a small sign that he was alright.

Clearly, because he couldn't have her thinking he was that weak. Clearly.

With that, the woman stood up and left, snapping her fingers towards two guards "Enjoy your stay. Try not to get too comfortable" She said with an unkind smirk

Loki only grumbled behind his muzzle, thinking about every obscenity he'd call her once this dreadful muzzle was removed. If it was removed.

As Loki and Alexia neared their cells, he took a glimpse of Alexia out of the corner of her eye. She kept her head up, determined not to give the guard a reaction. Her bravery was something Loki could respect as that was about the only thing the two of them could cling to now.

Suddenly, Alexia began coughing violently causing the guards to pause, observing her curiously, not sure what to do. It was at that moment that Alexia sprung free, reaching down to grab the knife in her boot, swinging it around at the guard as much as her chains would allow her to.

Loki caught on, slamming his head back roughly into his guard's face, the sound of his nose breaking a satisfying noise to Loki as he turned, swinging his cuffs at the guard.

Together, the two of them fought their guards and before long it was just Loki's guard left. As Loki prepared to strike the guard, Alexia's voice rang out "Stop!"

Loki paused, looking at her irritably. Honestly, she couldn't have had worse timing, he was just about to finish the guard off. Alexia walked over to the guard "You will remove our restraints. Now!" She said harshly and the guard nodded frightfully, starting with the cuffs on Loki's wrists, undoing them with a small key. He then began working on the cuffs on Loki's ankles, the cuffs clanking to the floor loudly.

The guard had just started to work on Alexia's restraints as the loud clamber of men came from the end of the hallway.

"We need to get out of here. Now" She hissed at Loki and he nodded, nodding towards an empty hallway. Alexia nodded in agreement and Loki picked Alexia up, ignoring her discomfort as he ran towards the hallway. With Alexia still fully chained up, there was no way they'd be able to get anywhere quickly so, as Loki figured, this was the fastest way to get out.

Alexia grumbled something about not wanting to be treated like a child and he rolled his eyes, brushing her complaints away as he darted into an empty room, setting her down.

Loki grabbed the set of keys he had swiped from the guard, beginning to unlock the chains around Alexia's ankles, ignoring her alarmed whispers as a group of guards ran down the hallway. He put his finger on the muzzle where his lips were to shush her, finally getting the chains off her ankles. Just as the delightful sound of the lock releasing sounded, a group of guards stormed into their room, beginning to fire at the two.

Alexia swore under her breath and they scrambled behind a turned-over metal table that stood near the corner of the room.

Loki's mind was racing as he thought of an escape. With his magic, Loki easily could've gotten them out of this situation but it seemed the muzzle annoyingly still seemed to block his magic. Curse whoever decided to create magic restricting devices Loki thought to himself angrily.

Peeking over the corner of the table, Loki swallowed thickly as he looked at all the guards. They were trapped. Surrounded. Loki's heart dropped as he saw the woman who had put the muzzle on him enter the room. Looking back at Alexia he squeezed her hand, trying to give her all the confidence he could muster as he slowly accepted his fate.
