Chapter 2

Hours have passed by and the bus has finally made its stop nearby the abandoned train station. The entire atmosphere has gone dead silent as the bus doors gradually opened. Our heroes were the first ones to step outside into the deathly air. K.K. got out his phone as he dialled emergency services. "What's going on?" he uttered. "There have been many violent attacks recently. Military services are being deployed in this station. When you get there, all of you will be quarantined," a voice said. Relieved, K.K. and his companions made their way to the desolated station in the hopes of finally finding refuge. Meanwhile, Kapp'n descends from the cockpit as he heads down towards the subway to inspect the available train. "I was planning to board that train," a voice said behind him. Kapp'n turned around. "Oh, hey Nook! Any ideas about getting back on track?" he said. Tom Nook answered reluctantly, "Well, I have one but it'll take a lot of precision and diligence, hm?" Before they can get to work, Rover rushed in.

"Hey, you think you have a minute?" he said as he put his hands on Nook's shoulders. "Whoa! Easy there! Tell us what you want," Nook replied as he shook it off. Rover began to explain with some slight struggle, "OK, so uh, is there any way that we can travel all the way to Haven because that's where um, uh, my car repairs shop is." Kapp'n shook his head. "Um, sorry but, we are going under maintenance here since this train is inoperable." Rover looked around frustratingly, "Um, OK, Haven is still open right? So, how long will it take for the train to be operational again?" he asked. "Sir, we're still unsure of the results. You'll just have to wait a little bit longer," Nook replied. Desperate, Rover clasped his hands on Tom. once more. "Tell me now!" he shouted. "I'll be late for my promotion!" Kapp'n broke the tension and said, "That can wait, sir. For now, you and Nook will stay behind while I will check the station for any survivors." Kapp'n hurried to the train station while Rover reluctantly stayed with the hardworking tanuki.

Meanwhile, the survivors made their way inside the train station in an orderly fashioned manner. But, K.K. has an alternate plan as he steadily escorted Isabelle to the other side of the waiting area. "Hm, maybe there's a bigger asset of defence forces back there," Digby said as he walked along with the others. As the two dogs split up from the rest, they stopped nearby the long path at the right hand side of the station. "Oh, why are we here?" Isabelle said curiously. K.K. looked at her with direct eye contact. "Listen, we're taking this route, OK? It's much safer," he replied. Isabelle shook her head in disbelief. "But what about the others, huh?" she retorted. "Forget them. It's much safer this way," K.K. said. Then, Isabelle felt like she was about to cry. "You know," she sniffled. "Sometimes, you only care about yourself. The world doesn't revolve around you. No wonder I'm not doing well at my job." The Jack Russell looked at the shih tzu in pity.

Later, the majority of occupants outside the station went down the escalator in which they saw an immense amount of defence forces. But, it turns out that their place of safety and refuge is not present in this place as all of their everyday heroes were turned into brainless villains. Terrified, the crowd started to rush back up the escalators and stairwells as death began to near them. It was incredible! The undead was tremendously gaining new recruits every second as the life count started to gradually decrease. Back inside the train station, K.K. and Isabelle came across a very scarred Redd standing right in front of their eyes. "Who the hell are you?" K.K. asked. Redd began to tremble a little as he introduced himself. "My name is Redd, I was the former President of Jolly Redd's Treasure Trawler. Now I'm nothing!" he whimpered. Isabelle sighed, "Oh, poor you! Why don't you come with us? You'll be much safer!" Before Redd can accept their request, he sees a figure from a distance limping towards them.

"Hey!" Redd called out to the figure. "We need some assistance!" K.K. turns his attention to Isabelle. "Stay here, I'll check what's going on," he said. As he ran towards the weak animal, K.K.'s phone began to ring. It was Digby. "Hello?" he responded. "Where are you right now?" Digby said. "We're heading to the quarantine zone. Why?" replied K.K.. "Damn it! The quarantine zone has been infested! You better start running!" Digby replied in frustration. K.K. started to get a serious sense of fear and unsettlement as what he saw in front of him was a living nightmare. "Help me, please!" the soon-to-be-dead animal pleaded. "Please…" Suddenly, intensely fast zombies gradually started to fill the entire corner of the hallway as K.K. shockingly looked at the poor animal slowly being consumed externally and internally. The Jack Russell swiftly turned around and dashed forward to check on his vulnerable friend as he saw total chaos behind her. People fleeing away from death itself. "ISABEEEEEEEEELLE!" he screamed as he saw death closing in fast on her shih tzu friend. Isabelle turned around at the last minute to see an incoming zombie waiting to devour her for good.

Fortunately, her twin brother intervened as he hooked the deranged zombie right across the cheek. "Brother!" Isabelle exclaimed. "Go! Quickly!" he exclaimed in utter desperation. Isabelle, K.K., and Redd sprinted towards the open glass doors as they joined Cyrus, Lottie, and a few more animals. The pink otter rapidly escorted Isabelle to the subway while Digby was the last one to re-join with the group as tons of the infected kept on growing larger and larger. With all their might, they forcefully shut the doors with all their paws. "Hurry up! We can't hold them out for much longer!" Cyrus strained as he tried to barricade it with wooden planks. It was a tug of war between the living and the dead and it seems to be an unfair battle as the zombies won't back down. Not even a single bit. Time was running out as well as the door's strength.
