It was a happy and cheerful day in Pirate Island. Our crew of young pirates were resting for a moment after an hour or so of working out. It has been approximately one week since Jake got his new and awesome sword, and he has gotten somewhat used to it.
It was light, so he could move it faster but it was sharp, so you'd have to think twice before picking a fight with him.
"Jake... How... can... you still... keep going?!" Cubby asked, panting. He was drenched in sweat from practicing hand-to-hand combat, which was one of his weak points.
"You have to build up your stamina, Cubby" said Jake, taking another swing at Izzy, who was battling Jake with her dagger. While Jake's sword was a beautiful brown colour with engravings on the hilt, it could never win the battle of beauty against Izzy's dagger.
It was a beautiful Native American fire opal blade, which was passed down from generation to generation in her family. It was a light pink in normal light, but when kept at different angles, shown rainbow. It's hilt was carved out of mahogany, giving it a dark brown color, with different carvings on it.
"Haah!" She shouted, taking a surprise shot at Jake, which worked. He fell over, making Izzy the victor.
"The element of surprise" she said, with a smirk on her face.
Jake was about to give her some witty comeback, but got interrupted by another person.
"Good job, you guys!" said Peter, flying through the open roof of their hideout.
"Peter!" Skully exclaimed, happy to see him.
"Hello, my brave band of pirates!" he greeted, landing on the ground. "I have something important to tell you"
Everyone gathered around to listen to what he had to say.
"I think you must all know about my companion, Tinker Bell" he started, with a serious expression. "The place she comes from is called Pixie Hollow, the land of faeries. She has informed me that there have been some problems going on there. When she came to me for help, me and the lost boys agreed that this could be an opportunity for you four to prove that you're worthy to become sub-protectors. Particularly, Izzy"
"Me?" she asked, confused.
"Yes, you. They already know that Jake is capable, but they don't know about you and Cubby. And, female sub-protectors are pretty rare, so they have their doubts. We decided you could prove to us that you can do it through this mission" Peter said. "Actually, I know that you can do it" he added, smiling.
"O-oh..." she said, a bit warily.
"Don't worry, Izz! We'll be with you the whole way!" Jake said, putting his arms around her shoulder. Cubby and Skully took the cue and gave Izzy a reassuring look.
"See, you have such a supportive crew! No need to doubt yourself!" Peter assured her.
"Right..." Izzy said, trying to force a smile out of her.
"Meet me at Never Mountain tomorrow at sundown" Peter said, and left the way he came from.
It was night time now, probably 11 p.m or something.
Izzy was laying on her bed, wide awake and staring at the wall and thinking. She was so lost in her own world that she didn't notice that someone else was awake.
"Psst... Izz..." Jake called, from his bed. That got Izzy out of her state of thinking.
"Huh?" she asked, looking to where the voice came from.
When she looked over to Jake and saw he was that one that called her, he tilted his head towards the door, telling her to come outside. They both tiptoed outside.
"What is it, Jake?" she asked.
"Let's go outside? For a walk" he suggested awkwardly.
"Uh... why?" she asked confused, but still started walking towards the door.
"No reason" he spit out.
"Hey, don't be nervous" he said, walking beside her. "You've been out of it since Peter's visit" he said worriedly. "Are you okay?"
"I... it's nothing, really" she replied, brushing the question away.
"No, I know it's not nothing. Tell me" he said stubbornly. He sat down on a boulder, and gestured for her to sit beside him.
"I don't know... It's just that I don't think I can do it, you know... I mean, I've always been confident that I could do things like this, but now that Peter said all of that... I don't know anymore" she said, after sitting down.
She wasn't looking at Jake's face, she was staring at the ground in sadness. But if she did look at Jake's face, she would be able to see the worry in his face.
"Don't ever say that! You are so much more amazing than you think you are..." said Jake, placing his hand on hers. "Izzy, look at me" he said, tilting her head up with his other hand.
"Nothing will go wrong" he assured her.
"Y-yeah..." she said, a bit more energetic.
"Smile for me, will ya?" he whispered.
She gave him a small, but genuine smile. It lit up his whole world.
"Say... I saw the expression on your face when Peter mentioned Tinker Bell... What was that?" he asked curiously.
"Oh nothing... It's just that I'm a huge fan of hers" she replied sheepishly, rubbing the back of her neck.
It was the next day at sundown now, and they were all at the Never Mountain. Izzy was a bit nervous, but she knew she could handle it.
"Hello everyone! Meet Tinker Bell" Peter introduced.
Tinker bell was just like how she was described in the books. A small ball of light that flew around, almost like a firefly. But when you look closely, you could see a beautiful faery with a fiesty attitude. Blonde hair that was pulled up into a bun, with bluebell eyes. Her skin was light, almost a soft shade of pink, probably from being angry all the time.
"She'll guide us to Pixie Hollow" said Peter, and then turned to Tinker Bell.
"Let's go, Tink" he said, which was replied by a sound of a bell ringing. Faeries cannot be heard by human ears, instead we hear a bell ringing whenever they speak.
The journey to Pixie Hollow was quite long. They left at sundown and reached at late night. Stars twinkled in the vast night sky, leaving everyone staring and star struck. Pixie Hollow was located deep in a forest, behind a large oak tree. Moonlight trickled in through the canopy of trees, giving them sight.
"This forest is called the faery forest" Peter informed.
"Why's it called that? Because Pixie Hollow is located here?" Cubby asked. He was tired, but how can tiredness stop a curious mind?
"Nope, because there have been faery spottings in this forest. Pixie hollow is very hidden, only a handfull of people know about it. Even in books, it's only mentioned briefly that a world of faeries exists. Sometimes, pirates kidnap faeries and use their pixie dust for finding treasure, so it's dangerous for faeries" Izzy replied, to which Tinker Bell nodded.
To Tinker Bell, Izzy seemed like an obnoxious know-it-all the moment she met her. It was quite annoying to her.
"We have to be shrunk down to the size of faeries to enter" Peter explained. "Drink this" he said, as he passed down four bottles of strange liquid to the others, while taking one for himself.
They drank it, with a bit of suspicion, and waited for a few seconds. And then the world started growing bigger.
Bigger, bigger, bigger... The trees were the size of mountains, and the grass was the size of trees. The flowers that used to look so pretty now looked huge and terrifying. Ants were the size of tigers, and the world that was already big and scary looked even bigger and scarier.
"Let's go in" said Peter, as he walked towards a small hole in the tree. Well, to humans of normal size it was a small hole. But to Jake and his crew, it was a huge opening in the even huger oak tree.
They entered the opening, and to their suprise, the inside of the tree was hollow. The place was bustling with faeries of different elements and sizes who were doing different jobs. Chatter filled the whole tree, and it was a real working community.
The tree was divided into different floors, and in the middle of each floor was an opening, so you could see the top of the tree through that opening. The whole tree was lit up with fairy lights, because what else would be used to light it up? A huge chandelier hung from the top of the tree, which gave it extra light.
A male faery that looked like Tinker Bell's age came up to them and started talking to Tinker Bell. They chatted for a while, until he left. They couldn't hear anything, only bells ringing. After he left, Tinker Bell turned towards them and gestured to follow her.
She lifted from the ground and started flying to the stairs. They followed her down the stairs to the underground. After going down some flight of stairs, they reached a place that looked like a town.
Little houses made of hollowed mushrooms and very tiny pieces of wood were built, and some faeries were walking along the streets of the town.
In the middle of the town, there was a huge building made of a hollowed log. Tinker Bell started flying towards that building.
"Come on, let's go" said Peter, starting to run to keep up with Tinker Bell. She was flying, while the others were just on foot.
Tinker Bell entered the building, which looked like a faery castle. She went to the stairs and started climbing to the top, and to the other's dismay, the stairs were very long.
They climbed up about 25 flights of stairs, with each flught have about 60-70 steps. By the end of it, they were beat.
"See, Cubby... THIS is the type of thing you need stamina for..." Jake said. In truth, he was out of his breath too.
Tinker Bell knocked and then walked into a room at the end of the steps, and the others followed tiredly.
A female faery, who looked taller and wiser, was in the room. She had golden wings, and the shape of her wings were different from Tinker Bell's. She was wearing a beautiful gown. She had slightly darker hair thank Tink's, but had the same mezmerizing blue eyes.
But now, she was pacing back and forth the room anxiously. When she spotted the others coming into the room, she looked almost relieved. She started talking to Tinker Bell, but the others couldn't understand her.
After a few seconds, she turned to the others. She gestured for them to wait, and went further inside her room.
It was during this time that the others actually got to breathe and look around.
The room's ceiling was very tall, and the interior looked like it belonged to a queen. The walls were all painted white, with gold accents. Paintings of different faeries were on one wall, while another wall supported a bookshelf full of faery books. At the centre of the room was a small fountain. It was made of white marble, and the design looked really pretty. Something you wouldn't see in the human world. But what made it stand out the most was what was flowing out of it. It wasn't water... and it didn't look like a liquid. Almost like a powder. A gold powder. But then they understood. Pixie dust.
Pixie dust was very, very rare. It was almost like gold in the human world. A person who possessed pixie dust could do a lot of things, like break certain types of spells... And fly. Flying was something only Peter and the lost boys could do. It was something everyone wished to do, too. You could do a lot of things if you could fly. Explore new places, find lots of treasure, meet new people... And it could get you out of all sorts of troubles too. Even a small pinch of it could save a life that was in danger.
The wise looking faery returned, and she was holding something in her hands. Some sort of red fruit. Holding them out, she gestured to eat. Everyone took one each, and bit into it. It was the tastiest thing they ever tasted. The taste of the berry was different for each person. It could be of a certain dish you like, or it could remind you of your favourite memory. It could be your favourite smell, or even take you back to your favourite sight.
"Can you understand me now?" the wise faery asked. Her voice was sweet, but it still showed a sense of authority and power.
"Yes..." Peter replied. Even he was shocked.
"That was a Mathura Berry. It helps the eater to understand us" she explained. "You must be wondering what the problem is... Aren't you?" she asked.
The other nodded. They were all eager to know what it was.
"A few years ago, a prophecy was told... A problem that would endager not only Pixie Hollow, but whole of Neverland too, would arise. Only a group of young heroes would be able to stop the problem that arised" she explained.
"I think it is you, you young heroes, who will save us all" she said, raisinv her hand to Jake, Izzy, Cubby and Skully.
"Someone in Neverland," she began, "has been troubling the Forever tree... The forever tree is what gives all of Neverland life. It is what gives Pixie Hollow it's magic and Pixie dust. We are all dependent on it. If something were to happen to it..." she stopped, a worry full and sad expression on her face. She needn't continue. Everyone knew what would happen if the Forever Tree failed. Everything would go out of existance. Neverland, the land of dreams, would become a mear memory.
She turned to the team.
"You must go to the Forever tree. Find out what is happening to it. Who is doing this to it. And stop them"
"We'll do our best, your highness" said Peter, bowing his head. Everyone understood who this wise faery was now. The queen. Following Peter, the others too bowed their head.
"Good luck, brave pirates"
