The next day, I arrived back at the hideout around noon. I walked into the security room to see Gordon and Pauly D looking over the footage from my run last night.
Just then, Pauly turned his head and noticed me, and I swear I saw him smile under those bandages as he made his way to me.
"Not bad, baby," he told me. "You can just about drive."
"Yeah, I did pretty good last night, didn't I?" I said, unable to help but brag a bit. Pauly chuckled, wrapping an arm over my shoulder as he led me back to the garage.
"Well, now let's see you do some delivery work," he said. "Just a quick little run to get your feet wet. Nothing too tough – there's no cops around right now."
I nodded my head, and as Pauly made his way to the debriefing room, the lights shone back on the buggy and the SUV. I figured it was only fair I use the SUV this time around, to get a feel for it.
An hour later…
I pulled up, once again, near Centreville, where my man Buddy was waiting with two Morcubots. Buddy gave me his trademark salute as I pulled up to him before walking up to me.
"This is it, pal!" he told me. "Just make these two drops and you're IN!"
"Just the fact that this is happening is insane," I told him. "I can't thank you enough, Buddy."
"Thank me later. Now get going!"
I nodded my head and gripped the wheel as one of the Morcubots started counting down.
"3…2…1…GO!"
I instantly floored it down the hill. I soon saw a green flare in the distance. I figured that was where the first package was.
I drove up to the Morcubot holding it, and he handed it off to me while I was moving to save time. The Forgotten were professionals. They knew what they were doing.
As soon as I secured the package, I saw a set of red flares just off town. That must be the drop-off.
When I approached the zone, I handed it off to a Morcubot that was waiting for me as I moved. I saw on my monitor that I had earned an extra 30 seconds for completing that delivery.
Driving the SUV was different compared to driving the buggy. The SUV was durable, so it could handle the terrain better, but the drawback was that it was slower. I preferred the dune buggy for that extra speed.
I quickly made my way to pick up the second package by the bridge over the river, then drove toward the drop-off behind the hill, skidding to a stop and handing off the package.
Meanwhile, in Forgotten HQ…
(3rd person POV)
Gordon and Pauly D were in the security room, having seen DJ Candy's full run.
"Most impressive," Gordon noted. He then turned to Pauly and said, "Welcome her to the team and get her started tomorrow. There is much work to be done…"
"Yes, sir," Pauly said, smirking under his bandages as Gordon headed off.
Back in Centreville…
(DJ Candy's POV)
I was relaxing inside the SUV when Pauly's face showed up on the monitor.
"Just spoke to the boss," he told me. "Welcome aboard, baby."
I couldn't help but smile, and as Pauly cut the transmission, I cheered, flailing around in my seat in excitement.
Watch out, world. DJ Candy's Forgotten now, and I'm looking to make an impact!
Stay tuned for Chapter 3: Secrets and Lies!
