Celeste's POV
"We're 10 minutes out." Clint says from the pilots seat. Him and Tony had shared the flying.
Steve stands up, picking up his shield. He turns to all of us, taking a breath.
"Ultron knows we're coming. Odds are we'll be riding into heavy fire, and that's what we signed up for. But the people of Sokovia, they didn't. So our priority is getting them out. All they want is to live their lives in peace, and that's not going to happen today. But we can do our best to protect them. And we can get the job done, and find out what Ultron's been building. We find Romanoff, and we clear the field. Keep the fight between us. Ultron thinks we're monsters and we're what's wrong with the world. This isn't just about beating him. It's about whether he's right. Bruce, you find Natasha. Tony you find Ultron, let us know what's going on. Everyone else, let's do what we can to evacuate the city." He ends his speech and walks over to where I'm sitting.
"Did you write that down or was it just off the cuff?" I ask, smirking at him.
"That's kinda the Cap's thing." Tony says walking past.
Steve turns to me, speaking in a low voice. "If you need anything, you let me know. I'll be there."
I smile at him. "Steve, don't worry about me, I'll be fine."
"I just..." he sighed, not continuing on.
"I know. Me too." I smiled at him, which he returned. We knew what each other meant. We'd only just found each other. "You don't need to worry about me, because I can take care of myself. But also, we can't afford to be distracted. Other than rage, Ultron doesn't have human emotions, so there's low risk of human error on his part."
"You're right. But still..."
"Okay, sure thing. And same goes for you, okay?" He nods in response.
"Okay everyone, here we go!" Tony announces to us the beginning of this fight.
Everyone went to do their duties. I started to assist in the evacuation of the city, leading them to a safe location... well, hopefully a safer location. Some of the citizens were putting up a fight, but Wanda was able to assist in... calming then down I suppose.
Suddenly, Ultron's sentries began to come out of the woodwork and attack us all.
"Go!" I hear Steve yell to some of the people.
"Get off the bridge! Run!" I start yelling to get everyone out of harms way.
The grounds begins to shake, as if there was an earthquake going on. I reached my hands down to feel the earth beneath my fingers. I looked up to Steve who was standing above me.
"Sokovia is going for a ride..." I say to him. His eyes widen in terror in response.
I turn around and throw some of the ground up to a bunch if sentries who were attempting to sneak up on us. They flew back and I jumped back into battling the sentries, to destroy all that came our way.
"We need to spread out!" I yell to Steve.
"You're right, I'll be this way!" He runs off. I stay closer to the centre.
"Okay, the Vibranium has got a magnetic field, and it the only thing keeping this rock together." Tony announces over the comms.
"What happens if it drops?" I ask, creating a fire tornado, pushing down the street in front of me.
"If it gets high enough, it'll mean Global extinction."
"Gee, he sure knows how to make a big deal of things, doesn't he?"
"Yeah a bit dramatic."
"I can do my best to keep it together, and if it does fall, maybe I can attempt to lessen the blow, so to speak."
"Sounds good, Ace. Cap, you got incoming!"
"Incoming already came in." Steve grunts. "Stark, you worry about bringing the city back down safely, keep Celeste updated on when she needs to jump in. The rest of us have one job: tear these things apart. You get hurt, hurt 'em back. You get killed, walk it off."
"That doesn't actually make much sense, but I get what you're trying to say." I laugh into the comms.
I somehow make my way to the bridge on the edge of the rock, seeing a woman being lifted over the side, Steve following behind her. A sentry runs up to him.
"You can't save them all. You'll never-" Steve hits him with his shield as I run up and kick it off the edge of the bridge.
"You'll never what? You didn't finish!" He yells over the edge at the sentry. Thor lands on the bridge on the top of a car he just rescued. "What, were you napping?" He says to Thor as we run off to where the action is for the moment.
I'm battling along side the boys when Ultron flies in and lifts me up. I instinctively send electricity through my body, resulting in him tightening his grip.
"Ah!" I screamed as it managed to get tighter. I see Thor flying up towards us out of the corner of my eye.
"Thor! You're bothering me." Ultron let's go of me, and I'm falling through the air again. I soon light myself up and shoot off in the other direction where I see another wave of sentries flying in.
"The next wave's gonna hit any minute. What have you got, Stark?" Steve asks.
"Well, nothing great. Maybe a way to blow up the city. That'll keep it from impacting the surface if you guys can get clear."
"I asked for a solution, not an escape plan."
"Impact radius is getting bigger every second. We're going to have to make a choice. I don't know how much Celeste's power will be able to help with the rock falling."
"I can give it everything I got, but it's no guarantee."
"Cap, these people are going nowhere. If Stark finds a way to blow this rock-"
"Not 'til everyone's safe." Steve cuts Nat off.
"Everyone up here versus everyone down there? There's no math there."
"I'm not leaving this rock with one civilian on it." He says with a voice of finality.
"I didn't say we should leave. There's worse ways to go. Where else am I gonna get a view like this?"
"It isn't the worst I've ever seen." I say in agreement as I'm able to freeze a sentry before forcing it to shatter.
"Glad you like the view, ladies. It's about to get better." Just then a huge ship-like aircraft shows up. "Nice, right? I pulled her out of mothballs with a couple of old friends. She's dusty, but she'll do."
"Fury, you son of a bitch." Steve says.
"Oooh! You kiss your mother with that mouth?"
Lifeboat like ships begin to fly towards the rock. I fly back down landing next to Pietro, looking at the ships again.
"This is SHIELD?" Pietro asks.
"This is what SHIELD's supposed to be." Steve answers.
"This is not so bad."
"Let's load 'em up." Steve orders. "Celeste, there's more bogies flying in."
"On it, Cap!" I fly back to the perimeter of the rock.
Just as I blast some out of the sky, another mechanical man that looks like Iron Man but grey, destroys more that I'm aiming at.
"Okay, who is the shooting star?" I hear the new voice ask.
"Who are you?" I snark.
"Rhodes, Celeste, Celeste, Rhodes." Tony introduced us.
"Ma'am."
"Old mate."
"Hey!"
"No time to be sensitive now, mate! On your 6!" I send an explosive blast to a fresh group of sentries behind Rhodes, accidentally sending him forward from the blast. "Sorry!"
"All good, but you'll get it when this is over!"
"Promises, promises!"
"I like her, Tony."
"Don't say that too loud, Capsicle already called dibs."
"Stark..!" Steve warns.
"Nobody calls dibs on me, fellas."
"I am in need of assistance at the church!" Thor grunts.
"On my way!" I fly back down, making my way to the centre of the rock. I see Thor fighting with Ultron, and jump on Ultron's back.
"Why won't you leave me be?!" He yells. He begins hitting Thor, so I place my hands on the side of his head, sending heat in as high as I can go.
"You think you're saving anyone?! I turn that key and drop this rock a little early and it's still billions dead. Even you can't stop that." Ultron grunts out. My powers aren't doing too much to him, but it's doing something.
"I am Thor, son of Odin, and as long as there is life in my breast, I am...running out of things to say! Are you ready?" He looks over Ultron's shoulder. I take this as my queue to get out of the way, so I drop down onto my back as Visions uses Thor's hammer to hit Ultron. He then goes flying above me, through the church wall.
"It's terribly well balanced." Vision admires as he hands the hammer back to Thor.
"Well, if there's too much weight, you lose power on the swing, so." Thor says, demonstrating a swing.
"I got it! Create a heat seal. I can...I can supercharge the spire from below." Tony says.
"Running numbers...A heat seal could work with enough power." FRIDAY says.
"Thor, Celeste, I got a plan! It requires your shared light show!"
"Copy, just tell us when."
"We're out of time. They're coming for the core." Thor says. I turn and see a bunch of centuries making their way to us.
"Avengers, time to work for a living." Tony says.
Tony and Steve join Thor and myself at the church. We fight off a few incoming sentries, before a brief pause.
"You good?" Pietro asks Wanda as her and Clint walk up.
"Yeah."
"Romanoff? You and Banner better not be playing "hide the zucchini."" Tony teases.
"Relax, Shell-head. Not all of us can fly." Just then she runs on to join us. "What's the drill?"
Tony points to the Vibranium core "This is the drill. If Ultron gets a hand on the core, we lose."
"Speak of the devil" I say as Ultron shows up.
"Is that the best you can do?!" Thor yells at him.
Ultron summons his army of robots, all running towards us.
"Well fuck..." I whisper.
"You had to ask." Steve side eyes Thor.
"This is the best I can do. This is exactly what I wanted. All of you, against all of me. How could you possibly hope to stop me?"
"Well, like the old man said." Tony and Steve look at each other, before Tony turns back to Ultron. "Together." Tony says.
The Hulk lets out an impressive roar.
The next stage of the fight begins. All of the robots start attacking us. I decide to fly up to a window to have a birds eye view, so I can get some of the ones flying around up there.
Flashes of scarlet from Wanda light up the room, as well as Thor's lightening. I shoot fire bolts at some, and then change to some ice shards, attempting to avoid Tony and Visions who were flying around.
Ultron then flies in, knocking me to the side, before slamming Vision into the wall. Vision then uses the stone in his head to blast Ultron back out of the church. Tony and Thor also see this, and we fly out to where Visions followed Ultron out.
Vision uses the stone again to blast him, Tony uses his suit, Thor begins the lighting. I blast an intense high temperature of flames. We continue this for a moment, before Ultron start to push himself forward. We all try to up our intensity, pushing him back. He crumbles back to his knees, and I can see his armour begin to turn orange from the heat. He then drops and we all halt. Ultron begins to sizzle and spark, before standing up.
"You know, with the benefit of hindsight-" Ultron's cut off by the Hulk running in and punching him far away.
The Hulk turns to his left, where a group of sentries are standing. He roars, chasing after them as they turn and run. Some begin flying off the rock.
"They'll try to leave the city." I state.
"We can't let 'em, not even one. Rhodey!"
"I'm on it. Oh, no, I didn't say you could leave. War Machine, comin' at you, right ... Okay, what?" I hear Rhodey over the comms.
Steve runs up to us. "We gotta move out. Even I can tell the air is getting thin. You guys get to the boats, I'll sweep for stragglers, be right behind you."
"What about the core?" Clint asks, we all look at it.
"I'll protect it. It's my job." Wanda volunteers, looking to Clint, who nods his head before he, Steve and Natasha run off. I nod to Wanda, before flying off to get some more robots. After a while, Tony comes through the coms again.
"Celeste, Thor, I'm gonna need you guys back in the church." He asks us.
I start making my way back to the church to meet Thor, exploding some robots on my way.
"You know, if this works, we maybe don't walk away." Tony says to us.
"Maybe not." Thor adds.
"But at least we can try. We don't have much other choice." I say to them.
We land at the church, Wanda now gone.
"Ready for this?" I ask Thor.
"As I'll ever be. Will you use lightening, Lady Celeste?"
"Yeah, I'm curious to see what happens."
"Okay you two, on my mark."
Thor brings on a blast of lightning as I send lighting to the core. The electricity starts to play with the core, forcing it to offshoot sparks. I begin to feel the city falling, gravity giving way to everything around us.
"Now!" Tony yells.
I continue sending lightning to the core, only stopping when Thor swings his hammer down onto it. The core is now destroyed, and the city explodes beneath us.
"I'm going to try and slow the debris down!" I yell.
"Celeste, be careful! There's so much!" I hear Steve say.
I make contact with the ground I'm still holding onto as the remains of the city are falling through the air, me with it. I feel a tug from within my chest as I attempt to slow it all down. I notice that it's working, but not by much. I push harder, feeling my body grow tired from the amount of strain it's under. My head is aching, my nose is bleeding and I feel my eyes stinging.
I realise this will be almost useless if it doesn't slow down at a faster pace. Leaving one hand in the earth I'm holding onto, I use my other, palm down where I see a large body of water, feeling the pull in my hand as I raise the water, spreading it out to act as a landing for the falling debris. I see that it's fast approaching. This should be enough to lessen the blow. I need to wait until the last possible second before I attempt to escape, otherwise it would have all been for nothing.
"Celeste! Get out of there!" I can't distinguish the voice.
I realise it's too late for me to get out now. My body is exhausted, in every possible way and not responding to what I'm asking it to do.
Next I know, I feel the impact of hitting the water. It's so powerful. It's almost like I'm in a rip tide as all the debris crashes around me in the water, throwing my body around.
It finally settles I realise, when I can look and see the sun, bubbles floating upwards.
I try to push myself up, I really do. But I'm just so tired. I feel my vision begin to blur and then darken.
A voice in my ear, yelling my name...
