Steve's POV

I honestly couldn't explain what I was feeling as I could see the remains of the Sokovia city falling. I was looking down from the helicarrier, trying to see where Celeste was.

"Celeste! Get out of there!" I yelled over the comms.

All the debris began to land in the water that Celeste had manipulated to move higher up. I continued to yell her name, but got no response. Soon the water began to get lower to where it was originally.

"Stark? Have you got eyes on Celeste?" I asked.

"No, but I'm on it!" I could see him flying back down the water.

"Thor, Vision. Can you check around for her?" They replied in the affirmative, soon coming back to say they didn't find her anywhere. "Stark?"

"Nothing ye- wait! I've got her!" I felt myself sigh with relief. "It doesn't look good, Cap! She hasn't got a pulse. Get a medic ready. I'm bringing her back."

Nat ran off to get a medical team ready. I ran over to the doors, waiting for Tony to arrive. He soon lands on the helicarrier, rushing in with a passed out Celeste in his arms. She was completely soaked, suggesting she'd gone into the water. Some blood was also dripping down the side of her face coming from her nose.

The medic team runs up with a gurney, checking her vitals once Tony places her on it. They start rushing her off to the infirmary, me following behind.

"Please, give us a moment. We'll be out to let you know what's going on as soon as possible." A woman in a white lab coat says, before turning to walk into the room Celeste was taken into.

I feel a hand on my shoulder, turning to see it was Tony's. "C'mon Cap. Let's go speak with Fury. She's in good hands." He directs me to the bridge.

Celeste's POV

I hear a distant beeping noise, feeling my body aching. I felt like my lungs were on fire as I was breathing. My eyes flutter open to see I'm in what looks like a hospital room. I reach my hand up to my eyes as the light shoots pain through my head, and I felt a pull from my arm. I look down and realise I'm attached to an IV.

"Good afternoon, Miss. Matthews." I hear a voice say. FRIDAY.

"Hey..." I croak out. "Where am I?"

"Back at the Avengers tower. Captain Rogers stepped out only half an hour ago, but requested I inform him of when you wake. I've alerted Mr. Stark and your doctor, they are on their way."

"Thanks, FRIDAY." Just then, Tony and a young female doctor walk in.

"Miss Matthews, I'm Dr. Griggs. How are you feeling?" She asks, picking up a folder from the end of the bed.

"Just really tired. I feel like I have a migraine too."

"That's not surprising, you were severely dehydrated when Tony brought you back to the helicarrier." She says, coming over to check my vitals.

"What happened?"

"What do you remember?" Tony asked.

"Right now all I remember is trying to stop the debris from making too much damage. I had to hold on, but I don't remember anything else."

"Well you held on alright. You ended up going down into the water... you didn't have a pulse when I got to you." Tony's voice sounded tight. "You drowned... it was a pretty horrid fight. Even Pietro didn't make it."

"What? How?" I felt my head break, poor Wanda.

"He got shot... ran in front of Clint who was saving a young boy..."

I bit my lip, trying not to cry. "Well ...thanks for telling me... and getting me, Tony." I said to him, sincerely.

"Anytime kid. You did good though. If you didn't do what you did, it would have been ten times worse."

"How many casualties?" I ask softly. He gives me an empathetic look.

"Let's not worry about that now, kid..." I feel my throat close up slightly.

"You're going to feel tired and sore for a few more days. Even though you were out for two days, you need to take it easy. What you did burnt you out, in every way possible. So I'd say take it easy. I've got some pain medication, but I'd recommend you stay in the infirmary for tonight with the IV. I'll check on you again tomorrow, see how you're tracking."

"Great, thanks doc."

Just then a gentle knock is at the door. I look up and make eye contact with two cerulean eyes.

"May I come in?" Steve asks shyly.

"Of course." I say, sitting up just a bit more.

"Alright, the doc and I will leave you two lovebirds alone. No hanky panky, Cap. She needs her rest." He shoots over his shoulder before walking out. Steve and I look at each other, blushing at his words.

"How are going?" He asks, sitting down in the chair next to the bed.

"Alright, pretty drained. The doctor said I'm severely dehydrated and burnt out from exhaustion. Just have to stay here another night with the drip in." I said glancing down to the needle in my arm.

"Well you definitely had me worried..." he whispered looking down at his lap.

We remained quiet for a while. I didn't really know what to say.

"Why didn't you let go? You could have gotten out of there." He said softly, eyes furrowed.

"I knew I needed to hang out for as long as possible, Steve. I had to do it."

"You don't have to prove yourself to anyone, Celeste."

"I just...Steve... Even Tony said if I didn't, it would have been ten times worse than it was. And Pietro? Even that-" my voice breaks, tears in my eyes. Steve grasps my hand giving it a gentle squeeze.

"I understand, I'm sorry, I was just so worried. But we did everything we could. You did everything you could. Pietro's went out saving lives. It's hard to lose someone, especially someone so young." I only nodded my head, I wasn't able to speak.

I pulled his hand closer, getting him to move into the bed with me. He seemed unsure at first, but I moved over to give him room. He laid down next to me, pulling me closer into his side. He let me shed my tears, comforting me until I fell asleep in his arms.
