Song: Monster - Imagine Dragons
Three days since the agreement. Elliot felt the deal was a reward for Wheatley. Wheatley relocated to a minimum-security prison for white-collar criminals who do fraud or embezzlement. Richard Wheatley was a mobster who personally killed his father. Wheatley deserved to rot in a cell.
"How long until the rat gets here? Why does he get to be released?" Elliot asked Ayanna as he paced around her office.
"First, sit down. You're making me nervous with your pacing. I'm not sure what happened. Baldi made a special deal with him. I have never seen anything as it happened before. Ayanna said as she sipped her coffee.
"I would not be surprised if Wheatley has dirt on our esteemed prosecutor. Esteemed, my ass. Baldi has some benefits to this deal. Money, power, or hiding his demons. Something is going on here." Elliot angrily sat across from Ayanna as his right leg bounced from nervous energy.
"Elliot, today we need to focus on Wheatley. Get a sense of what information he may know. Federal prosecutor Baldi needs to be on hold." Ayanna said and sighed.
"How the hell am I supposed to work with him?" Elliot screamed.
"Calm down. Don't scream at me." Ayanna glared at Elliot.
"Sorry, I just hate this," Elliot said as he looked away.
"We will get through this together. The minute Wheatley crosses the line or isn't useful for us. This arrangement is off. I will go directly to the judge." Ayanna said calmly.
"Thank you. I will try. But when it comes to Wheatley, I make no promises." Elliot said as he looked at Ayanna.
"Understood. We should get ready. Wheatley will be here within the hour. I need to make some notes of what we will talk about today." Ayanna opened her desk drawer, getting out a pad of paper.
Forty minutes later, Ayanna received the call from Wheatley's lawyer. They were in the parking lot and would be there in five minutes. She wanted a small warning to have the upper hand on Wheatley. "He's here," Ayanna said as she walked out of her office. "Freddie, come with me to greet them.
Ayanna walked down the stairs to the squad room. "Jet, make sure hidden mics are on and working in the squad room, interrogation, back cell, and place one in my office. I want every single moment of Wheatley recorded. The minute he walks in until he is in the car. No one lowers their guard even for a second. He will exploit and manipulate your weakness. We will be back in ten minutes."
"Yep." Jet said as she got up from the computer and pulled out a few extra mics from her drawer.
"Elliot, I want you waiting in interrogation. You are the first thing he sees. Also, remove two chairs, putting them against the wall. Only you and Wheatley are at the table. Let's stroke the asshole ego." Ayanna walked to Elliot's desk. "I got your back."
"Thanks, I just want this over," Elliot said as he stood up. Elliot watched as Ayanna and Freddie walked down the hallway and exited the door. He sighed as he tried to keep his anger under control. He would find a way to get the information needed.
Elliot had spent the ten minutes waiting by pacing the interrogation room. As he heard the beep sounding, someone was at the door. Elliot sat down. He slowly sipped his coffee as he waited. Ayanna and Freddie were first in the room. Followed quickly by Jake Burleson, who was in way over his head. Elliot thought. Next was Wheatley shackled on his hands and ankles wearing his prison jumpsuit. One guard walked a few steps ahead and one directly behind.
"Sit him at the table. I like you to shackle his hands to the locks on the table. He is not getting a chance to try something." Elliot said to the guards.
"I'm heartbroken. You don't trust me, Elliot?" Richard Wheatley smiled and laughed as he came into the room.
"Wheatley, sit down." Elliot looked at him and glared.
"Someone sensitive today." Wheatley smiled and sat down.
"Today I, like to do a quick debriefing so we know what you can help us with," Elliot said as he wrote Wheatley at the top of his notepad.
"Everything agreed upon in the agreement he signed with federal prosecutors." Jake Burleson said as he stood behind Richard Wheatley.
"Agreeing for a deal and doing are two very different things." Elliot got out his copy of the agreement from his manilla folder. "We are going over it today, or the deal is off. Don't you waste my fuckin time Burleson, Elliot shouted?
"Fine, fine." Jake sighed. "Richard, you need to answer their questions." He pulled the chair from the wall, sitting next to Richard at the table.
"We will go over the two main points listed," Elliot said as he saw Ayanna pull the other chair from the wall sitting next to Elliot.
"Sure, can we get to it already?" Wheatley asked Elliot impatiently.
"Listen," Elliot paused knowing, he would only regret anything he said next.
"I'll start," Ayanna said as she looked directly at Wheatley."Number one says you know cyber crimes. Explain."
"Contrapos had mini subsidiary businesses all around the world to remove any direct connections to us. The role of our fake pharmacies is to sell drugs on the dark web. They gather the information and then send the order to the next business in the chain. Their role is to gather information and batch all orders by the drug requested. They would then send the information to our direct subsidiary who would handle the illegal production of the drugs. It may sound complicated but every day, we had hundreds of orders. The process got easier and easier as time went on" Wheatley said proudly.
"Number two. How much knowledge do you have on organized crime?" Elliot asked.
" I grew up in it. My father took over for his father." Wheatley said as he sat up closer to the table.
"How much do you know about current mafia families?" Elliot asked as he wrote notes down.
"I have connections. You know that better than anyone Elliot." Wheatley said playfully.
"Final one. Why should we trust a single word out of your fuckin mouth? You're lucky you are in chains today." Elliot pulled back from the table and stormed out of the room slamming the door behind him.
