[Konohagakure no Sato]
[Team Ten — Old Swing]

Three new Genins gapped at the Shinobi who smirks at them mercilessly. "Before we start, I'll explain the test for you three. However, I will only explain once, so you better listen carefully, brats." He narrowed his eyes at them, stern.

Ino wants to protest loudly but decided to shut her mouth while Shikamaru slouched but his eyes narrowed, attentive. Choji lowered his bag of chips and focus on the Shinobi.

The man nod with pleased and opened his mouth. "You three are going to give me the information. Five facts—" he lifted his five fingers. "—about me. My full name, shinobi rank, registration numbers, the birth of date, and who was my Jounin-sensei during my Genin years." He dropped his hand to place his hand on his hip. "You have till midnight to gather all the facts and deliver to me in person. I will decide if the data are correct or not. However, if you arrive after midnight, you will fail." His blank amber orbs glanced up at the sun position. "You have about nine hours. Any question?"

"What are the rules?" Shikamaru asked, contemplating.

The Shinobi smirks. "Just one rule. Never tell anyone why you are looking for my personal info." His eyes narrowed sharply. "I will know if one of you brats broke this rule." He warns them, firmly.

Three candidates of Genins glanced at each other quietly then to him. "Any other question? No? Good. Your time starts now." He waves his hand at them lazily, whirled around and step toward the old swing.

Ino twitched in disbelief when she watches the Shinobi sat down on the swing and ignores them. 'He's way too laidback!' she turned her powder-blue orbs to her teammates who doesn't look interested at all. 'No way am I going allow us to fail!' she glares at them. "Come on you two! We need find the information before the deadline!" she snapped and stomped away.

"Troublesome…" the shadow-user mumbled, dragged his feet while Choji walked next to him calmly.

The Shinobi is in relax position, yet his eyes focus on his future students with interest. 'Time to spy on them.' He hopes this future-team prove to him that they have potential. Otherwise, it will be waste of time and disappointment.

[Heart of Konoha — Nine Hours Left]

Soon-to-be Team Ten stood in the middle of the lively village. Ino furrowed her eyebrows with puzzled as she turned her head to her teammates. "So, we're supposed to find information about him… five facts."

Shikamaru slouched his shoulders. "Apparently. His full name, shinobi rank, registration numbers, birth of date and his former Jounin-sensei." He frowned, thoughtfully.

"That's why he didn't tell us his name when I asked him earlier." The platinum-blonde recalled it out loud, how the Shinobi ignored her question. 'But still! He didn't have to be so rudely ignore me!' she mused, irked.

Choji opened his mouth. "How are we going to find the information?" he asked, curious.

Ino placed her palms on her hips with bit of arrogant. "I know a perfect person to ask for." A pleased smirk. "My father." After all, Yamanaka, Inoichi is Head of Torture and Interrogation Headquarter.

"What if he ask? We can't tell anyone why we're searching for his personal data." Shikamaru pointed it out. "No one wants to give away any shinobi's profile without any reason."

Ino frowned at him. "I don't think it's going to be a problem. I am confident that he will give us the answers." She replied, bit offense.

The cloud-watcher just sighed. "He may be your father, but don't forget that he's a Head of the T and I. They don't release any personal information without permission."

"He'll give me the answers as long as I ask him nicely." The platinum-blonde narrowed her eyes at her lazy teammate, miffed by Shikamaru's skeptical.

Before there's start of argument, Choji broke in gently. "How about we give a try? You'll never know if Ino's dad will give us the answers or not." He compromised with a friendly smile.

Ino huffed but nod her head while Shikamaru shoves his hands in his pockets. "Fine. Let's go." Ino turned around, nearly hit Shikamaru's face with her long ponytail. "He should be in the T and I Headquarter." She strides down the road, confident.

"Troublesome girl…" the lazy shadow-user grumbled; unwilling followed her while Choji just neutrally smiles.

After a moment, they arrived at the building where Ino's father is working. The future-Team Ten walked inside the building and Ino went to the Chunin at the front desk, working on paperwork with boredom face. "Excuse me?" he glanced up; a frown appeared on his face. "Is my father available? Yamanaka, Inoichi." Ino added her father's name just in case.

The Chunin raise his eyebrow but shook his head. "I'm sorry but Inoichi-sama is unavailable at the moment." He responds, politely.

Ino's shoulders slumped disappointed but her eyes glint with determined. "How long until he's free?"

"I am not sure, Yamanaka-san. It could take hours or even days. It depends." Chunin answers with bit of pity for his boss' daughter.

"Oh… I see. Thank you." Ino tipped her head with politely, then walked back to her teammates with bit of disappointed and bittered. "My father isn't available." She frowned.

They left the building quietly until they are in safe distance. Ino leaned against the fence with slightly annoyed that they won't get the information they need. "Now what?"

Shikamaru narrowed his eyes at the cloudy sky for a moment while Choji munching on his chips. Ino refuses to give up as her pride won't allow her. She couldn't stand the thought of how humiliate she will be if she and her teammates fail this test. 'Not only that, I don't want to disappoint my father and my clan.' Ino mused, resolved.

The platinum-blonde pushed herself from the fence and straighten up her spine. "There has to be a way to get his information." She muttered, thoughtfully.

"Well… there are three places I know that has his data." The shadow-user speak up. Ino and Choji turned their heads to him. "Hokage archive, forbidden area in library, and hospital."

Ino frowned. "Obviously we can't obtain info from Hokage archive. And the forbidden area in the library are only required above Jounin level." She pointed it out dryly.

"Then, the hospital?" Choji asked, questioning.

Shikamaru nod his head. "Yes. That's the only place we probably could get the info."

"But they won't give it to us." Ino made a sour face. "They have Patient Confidentiality. Unless we have his consent to release the information."

The rotund ninja tilted his head. "What if we use Henge as him?"

The shadow-user shook his head silently in respond while Ino hummed with thoughtfully. "That would be useful, but we don't even know his name at all. It would be too suspicious, plus, I don't think the nurses are dumb enough to release private information so easily."

"She's right." Shikamaru agreed with Ino. "I wouldn't be surprised if there are requirements. If anyone asks for their private info, they probably have to answer few questions and even test their blood or read their Chakra coil." He said, calmly.

The platinum-blonde crossed her arms. "We need to find a way to obtain the information from the office." She muttered, pondering.

After a few minutes of thinking while Choji is eating his chips.

Shikamaru open his mouth. "Ino." The platinum-blonde hummed in respond. "How's your skill with mind-reading techniques?"

"Not much yet. However, I'm naturally good at the Mind Body Switch Technique. But my body will be a shell." Ino answered, proud since she recalled how she did it on her first try when her father supervisor for her. Her father was surprised but beyond proud of her.

The shadow-user nod his head, as he gathered any plans in his mind less than a minute. "I have a plan." Two of his teammates stared at him, interested and curious. "Ino and I will use our Henge into civilian. We will be in the waiting room, pretend that we're waiting for someone. Ino will use her technique on one of the nurses." Ino's eyes spark with understanding. "You will get the information while I keep an eye out for your body."

Shikamaru turned his gaze to his best friend. "And you will be the distraction. If someone find us suspicious in the waiting room, you will make sure their attention is on you or something. Get it?" they nodded their heads, satisfied with Shikamaru's plan. "But there is one problem—his name."

Ino groan exasperating when she realized the problem. "Of course. We need his name otherwise it will take hours for me to search for his profile." This isn't going to be easy test for future-Team Ten.

"Hey…" Choji dug his hand in his bag of chip. "…what if Iruka-sensei knows his name?" lazy ninja and blonde kunoichi turned to him with pleasantly surprised.

"Of course!" Ino smiles widely while Shikamaru was grateful for Choji's helpful idea. "Iruka-sensei should be in the academy at this time?"

Shikamaru shrugged his shoulders. "We'll go and see."

[Eight Hours Left]

The future-Team Ten arrived at the Ninja Academy. As they walked down the empty corridor. "Should we check the teacher lounge?" Ino asked, wondering.

"Yeah. If not, we will check the homeroom class and possibly Headmaster's office." Shikamaru pointed it out. They stopped in the middle of the hallway. "We could all go together, or we could go in separate?" he added, examined his teammates.

Ino hummed. "We should separate. It'll be faster. We can meet at the gate in ten minutes?" she offered.

"That works." Shikamaru nod his head and glanced at his best friend. "Which place do you want to search?" he is aware that Choji hasn't been doing much since the start of their test. Shikamaru doesn't want his best friend to feel left out.

Choji smiles knowingly at him. "I can go check the teacher lounge?" which is on the end of the hallway first floor.

"Then I'll take the Headmaster's office." Ino speaks up, which is located on the third floor.

The lazy ninja sighed. "Then I go to homeroom class." Which is the third floor at the end in the back, opposite the Headmaster's office.

After that, future-Team Ten separated and search for their own pace.

[Choji]

The rotund ninja stride down the end of the hallway to where the teacher lounge located. Once he is in front of the door, he extends his hand to the doorknob and slides it open. He peeks in with surveyed around and noted that it was completely empty. 'Ah, Iruka-sensei isn't here.' A frown appeared on his face.

Choji step back and closed the door quietly. 'Guess I'll just wait at the gate.' He mused but perked up when he realized that he could eat his favorite snack in peace for a moment. The Heir of Akimichi turned around and happily amble down the corridor to the exit doors.

He thought about his best friend and old childhood friend. Choji was really happy when he learned that Shikamaru and Ino are their teammates. Shikamaru is a great best friend for him. As they've been raised together since they were babies. 'And Ino… I missed the old Ino.' Choji mused as he thought about how he used to have two best friends instead before the academy took Ino away from them.

Choji fondly recalled when he was five-year-old, watching dozed five-year-old Shikamaru and five-year-old shouted Ino. How young-Ino was so beyond frustrated that she jumped on young-Shikamaru and they both wrestled around on the grass. And how young-Ino pulled young-Choji in to trap their lazy best friend.

It was one of the small, wonderful memories that Choji truly cherished. 'I hope someday, we'll see the old Ino.' He mused, hopeful.

[Shikamaru]

Meanwhile, the lazy ninja sauntered leisurely to the opposite of the hallway where Ino is heading toward the Headmaster's office. The shadow-user slouched his shoulders as he shoves his hands in his front pockets. 'Troublesome…' he grumbled silently to himself.

Shikamaru wondered why the Jounin wants them to search for his personal info. What's the point to have that kind of test for Team Ten? Isn't Team Ten supposed to be the focus on stalling or become some kind of barrier like their fathers? 'Does that mean we're not going to be those types of groups?' he mused, contemplative.

When he reached the end of the hallway and found the homeroom class. Shikamaru could feel the faint chakras inside the classroom and he recognized them easily. 'Naruto… Sasuke and Sakura… they're still there? How troublesome.' He sighed but went to open the door.

Shikamaru stared at Naruto who whirled around with a mixture of hope and irritation but slumped his shoulders when he saw the shadow-user. "Oh… what are you doing here, Shikamaru?" the blonde-haired ninja asked, confused.

The lazy ninja glanced around as he noted Sakura is standing near Sasuke who is sitting in the chair, brooding. "By chance you know where Iruka-sensei is?" Shikamaru asked, lazily instead of answer Naruto's question. He didn't have hope that they knew the answer since it's possible that Iruka just left.

"Iruka-sensei left half an hour ago." Sakura answered.

'Arg… great. What a drag.' Shikamaru frowned.

Naruto huffed as he crossed his arms, grumpily. "And our Jounin-sensei is late!" he shouted, annoyed.

The shadow-user play with the idea if he should inform future-Team Seven about the exercise test for candidates Genins but then decided against it. 'Not my job.' He has a feeling that Jounin-sensei is supposed to inform their students about it and test it themselves. Shikamaru doesn't want to ruin it and get on Jounin-sensei's bad side.

It would be a drag to deal with. 'Well, hopefully, Choji or Ino found Iruka-sensei or something useful.' He mused, slightly hopeful and skeptical.

[Ino]

In the meantime, Ino strolled down the end of the corridor with confidence with her chin high and shoulders back. There's no way she will be easily defeated by this test. Not Jounin, not her teammates, and no on! She will make sure to pass this test even if it's the last thing she'll do.

Ino will show her rival that she's stronger and better. That she will get her Sasuke-kun. Sasuke-kun will turn his eyes on her and pay attention to her. Ino is smart—not as smart as Sakura who is very academically smart—but she has a brain and not afraid to use it if she needs it. She can fight as her Taijutsu is better than her rival's pitiful one.

The platinum-blonde will not fail. She will make sure.

Determined flare in her powder-blue orbs when she reached the Headmaster's office. She paused in front of the door as she realized she can't barge in without permission. She lifted her fist and gently knocked on the door. Ino waited for a bit however, there are no answers.

'Is the Headmaster not here?' she mused, frown. Ino bit her lip for a moment. She could just open the door and took a quick sneak peek but there's a chance they're someone will know. After all, this place is Ninja Academy. The platinum-blonde could do one thing however, she wasn't able to find her "senses" yet.

Her Clan took pride in skills with Mind Reading Techniques and Sensory Perception. However, not many Yamanaka members have skills when it comes to sensor chakras as there are only a handful few left. Her father was one of them but he wasn't the best—better than most—but not best. She briefly recalled how many Yamanaka members admired the Nidaime Hokage, Senju Tobirama who was an adept sensor.

'Although, I wonder just how much of a good senor the Nidaime was?' Ino mused, idly. Then shook the thought away and focus on the present.

Ino closed her eyes, attempted to sense anything from the Headmaster's office as her eyebrows furrowed. After a moment, nothing she could sense and she opens her eyes with disappointment. 'I guess trying to sense it right away without training isn't going to work.' She mentally sighed.

The platinum-blonde knocked on the door once more and waited. Again, no response and she assumed that it's empty. She doubted that the door is unlocked but it is locked when she tried to open it. "That's a failure. Hopefully, the others have better luck than me." She muttered, turned around, and headed to the gate where she'll meet her teammates.

[Ninja Academy — Outdoor]

Ino saw Choji and Shikamaru standing near the gate of the academy. She quickly picks up her pace toward them. "So?"

"Iruka-sensei isn't in the teacher lounge." Choji answered before he grabbed another piece of chip from the bag.

Shikamaru sighed. "Troublesome…" he shakes his head.

The platinum-blonde huffed loudly with frustration. "Great. Nothing. We wasted about half an hour and there is no Iruka-sensei in the academy. Where could he be at this time?" she scowled as she crossed her arms.

"What do we know about him?" the lazy ninja speaks up, thoughtfully. "He might be somewhere we can find him since he was our homeroom teacher for years." He pointed it out.

The future-Team Ten took a moment to think.

"He might be at the Ichiraku Ramen shop?" the rotund ninja suggested, softly while glanced at his best friend and teammate.

Shikamaru shakes his head. "No. I saw Naruto and his team. Iruka-sensei always at the ramen shop with Naruto." He said, lazily.

"Wait—Sasuke-kun is still here?" Ino snapped her gaze at the shadow-user in surprise. She assumed all teams already left.

The lazy ninja rolled his eyes. "Apparently, their Jounin-sensei is late." He yawned, disinterested. "But we don't need to waste our time since we have a deadline." He reminded her, nonchalantly.

Ino scowled at him. As much as she likes to see her crush, she would never ignore their real Genin test. Ino isn't the type of person just to pick boys over serious tests/missions. She refuses to fail! "I don't need a reminder!" she snapped.

Shikamaru just sighed and glance away boredom. Ino twitched as she glares angrily at him. While Choji watching them silently with worried and disappointment. 'I miss how they used to get along so well…' he mused, dejected.

It took a while for them to figure out where their former teacher could be and even asked few bystanders.

Until they finally found the answer.

Turned out that Iruka was last seen was when he is heading to the Hokage Tower. The future-Team Ten quickly hurried over the tower as they don't want to miss the chance to catch the Chunin teacher.

[Seven Hours Left]

When they arrived at the Hokage Tower, the future-Genins step inside and searching for their former instructor until Choji found him.

Iruka is sitting on one of the chairs in the waiting room. "Iruka-sensei!" he glanced up from his note and was pleasantly surprised to see his former students.

"Oh, hello." Iruka smiles at them, warmly. "Is there something wrong, Ino-san, Shikamaru-san, Choji-san?" he asked, concerned and wondered.

Ino placed her palms on her hips with a relief smile. "We've been looking for you everywhere."

"Really?" Iruka raises his eyebrow, puzzling but interest. "Do you need me for something?"

Shikamaru rolled his shoulders, lazily. "Do you know the name of our Jounin-sensei?"

Iruka blinked but nodded his head. He nearly jumped when the Team Ten leaned forward to his personal space. "What his name?!" they in unison shouted together while staring at him.

The Chunin sweatdropped but happily answered. "His name is Shiranui, Genma."

"Shiranui, Genma." Ino whispered, relief, pleased, and satisfied. Finally, they found the name of the Jounin!

"Do you know anything about him?" Shikamaru asked, hopeful.

Iruka shakes his head. "No. I only know of his name and some rumors." He answered with a half-smile.

Ino clicked her tongue disappointed but smiles wide at him. "Thanks, Iruka-sensei!" she chirped enthusiastically and turned her gaze to her teammates. "Let's go! We still have about seven hours until midnight." She almost immediately left the meeting room.

Shikamaru nods his head at the Chunin while Choji waved at him then they quickly followed the bossy blonde girl.

The Chunin blinked at them slowly then realized. 'Oh? Could it be their real Genin test?' he mused, slightly interested but he has faith in Team Ten. A smile appeared on his face. After all, they do have the potential for being Stealth and Intelligence Gathering after all.

[Hokage Tower — Outdoor]

"Okay, now we finally got his name." Ino narrowed her eyes thoughtfully. "And we also got his rank as well."

Shikamaru frowned. "I doubt it." His teammates turned to him, puzzled. "It took us this long just to get his name. There's no way he'll let us have it easy to obtain the rest of his personal information. I don't think his rank is Jounin." He pointed it out.

Choji tilted his head, wondering. "Are you saying that Genma-sensei might be having different rank?" he is happy to know their possibly future-Jounin-sensei's name.

"That's not right." Ino shakes her head. "Only Jounin could take Genins team…unless…" she trailed off, thoughtfully.

The lazy ninja nods his head as he confirmed that Ino might be right. "…unless he's a special rank." He finished her thought.

"Like what?" the rotund ninja asked, interested.

Ino hummed. "There are few special ranks—ANBU, Tokubetsu, Hunter-Nin, and Bounty-Nin." She recites the list she learned from her father's lessons.

Shikamaru glanced at their surroundings for a moment, civilians are busy with their daily lives, shinobis either jumping over the roofs or patrolling the streets, children playing games, and some strays animals avoid humans or steal food sneakily. It a typical day for Konoha village. "I highly doubt that we'll find the data of his true rank. However, there's a small chance we'll get the answer of his real rank."

"Well, at least we got his name. Now, are we going to the hospital?" Ino raises her eyebrow at her lazy teammate. "That plan is still on, right?"

Shikamaru hummed in response. "You both know what to do?" he asked, as he didn't mind repeating the plan for them. Fortunately, he doesn't have to since Ino and Choji remembered it.

And so, the future-Team Ten headed to the hospital.

To Be Continued.
