Pyrrha slowly opened her eyes, and surveyed the small room and three sleeping people surrounding her. Yawning, she lazily sat up, pulling up her CORTECHS display as she did so. Mid stretch, her mind locked onto the corner of her display, and she froze. The clock read 8:23 Local Planetary Time. They had class at nine, and none of her teammates had even woken up yet! Jumping out of bed, Pyrrha moved to Jaune's bed, gently shaking him awake. The leader of team JNPR looked up at his partner through bleary eyes. "Pyrrha? What're you doing? S'like, early…" With that ever so eloquent declaration, Jaune lay back down, closing his eyes clearly intending to go back to sleep. Sighing, half in exasperation and half in frustration, Pyrrha shook him again, making sure he was really awake this time. "Jaune, if you don't wake up, we won't be able to get breakfast before class.." That seemed to catch on. She watched as Jaune shot out of bed, and came crashing to the floor with his legs tangled in his sheets, waking Ren and Nora. After a moment of panicked scrambling, Jaune managed to sit up and start forming intelligible sentences. "Oh man, we're gonna be late! We can't be late on our first day!" Pyrrha, in an attempt to console her teammate, tried to get his attention. "I never said we would be late Jaune, only that we would miss breakfast." Unfortunately that caused a second crashing descent, as Nora sprung from her bed. "Miss breakfast? That's even worse!" The hyperactive girl proceeded to pull her partner out of bed, dressing and preparing in an almost impossible cyclone of speed. After a few minutes of clattering, and a much more relaxed time spent in the dining hall and walking to Grimm studies, team JNPR arrived with five minutes to spare, and in plenty of time to watch team RWBY arrive, flustered, out of breath, and almost certainly without breakfast,

"Monsters! Demons! Prowlers of the night! Yes, the creatures of Grimm have many names, but I merely refer to them as prey!" Sighing, Pyrrha set a program in her CORTECHS to record the professor's inane ramblings, and let herself slip into the local mesh, the "CCT Network". Maybe there was some sociologist or anthropologist that would find his stories interesting, but somehow she doubted that she would learn much of importance. Her time was likely better spent better familiarizing herself with the world planetside. She had been briefed on the existence of the Faunus (Not as shocking as you would think, having grown up with six subspecies of human, the existence of a seventh, albeit more abnormal, subspecies was little more than of passing interest.) and the Grimm (Slightly more concerning, but definitely something worth investigating.) However, the scope of data that they had been able to gather from orbital scans and undetected observation of the CCT network had been quite low, so she would need to, among other things, familiarize herself with the finer details of this world on her own. She had just begun reading an interesting article on the history of the white fang, when for the first time, Professor Port said something that interested her. "Then step forward, and face your opponent."

Saving the article to read later, and dismissing her display, Pyrrha looked up to see Weiss facing off against a rattling, shaking cage that the professor was about to open. Double checking that she was recording, and leaning forward in her seat, Pyrrha settled in to observe the fight, intent on learning from the oncoming fight. As Weiss' teammates cheered her on, Pyrrha couldn't help but notice the tension between Weiss and Ruby. Indeed as the fight continued, and even as she continued her observation of the Grimm, a boar-like creature with a fascinating spinning attack, the evident tension between the two was obvious, as an argument developed even as Weiss struggled with the creature. As class ended and Weiss stormed off, Pyrrha couldn't help but wonder what had happened between the two. No matter, it was time for her to send her first datapacket home.

Ruby walked away from her conversation with Ozpin, a new determination in her step. She had realized through her argument with Weiss and conversation with Ozpin had allowed her to come to the realization of what she needed to do. She needed to study! She needed to prove to everyone that she could be a good leader! She needed to show how responsible she really was! As she continued to hype herself up on the way to the library, she passed by a small alcove in the wall, and couldn't help but notice Pyrrha sitting on the small outcropping typing something into her scroll. As she passed her friend, Ruby couldn't help but notice Pyrrha's eyes flickering around wildly, almost as if she was nervous. Slightly weirded out by this, ruby decided to greet her friend, and maybe figure out what was wrong. Hey Pyrrha!" Upon hearing the greeting, Pyrrha started, and looked up at her, and Ruby was instantly taken aback by what appeared to be a scintillating lightshow behind Pyrrha's eyes. Quickly the champion blinked, and her normal green was back. "Oh hello Ruby, I didn't see you there." Noticing her friend's dumbstruck stare, Pyrrha shifted awkwardly on the outcropping, before turning back to Ruby. "Can I help you with something?" Ruby shook herself out of the trance she had found herself in. "Oh, Um…I was just wondering what you were doing? You looked a little nervous, and I wondered if something was wrong." At this, Pyrrha seemed to visibly relax. "Oh, nothing, I was just sending a message to my parents, letting them know about life at Beacon, they tend to worry." Pyrrha stowed her scroll, and got up from the plinth she had been sitting on. Well, I have some work to do for Professor Port's class. I'll see you tomorrow in Combat Class?" "Yeah, sure…" As Pyrrha walked away, Ruby couldn't help but wonder about the light show in her eyes. There was something wrong with Pyrrha and Ruby was going to figure it out. After all, it was a good leader's job to help her friends, right?

Jaune stood in front of Cardin, panting and almost unable to stand. Rallying himself back into the fight, he charged forward, swinging his sword in a downward arc that was easily dodged by his opponent. While he was picking his sword back up, Cardin's mace came around in an upwards swing, knocking him backwards with a flash of light. Rallying once again, Jaune charged forward, with the same overhead swing as before. Carden easily blocked it with the shaft of his mace. Leaning in closer, Carden smirked and told Jaune that "This is the part where you lose". Glaring up at him, Jaune began to speak, "Over my dead bo…" his brave declaration turned into a wince of pain as Carden kneed him in the Joules, forcing him to kneel over, as that device that Pyrrha gave him made a soft beep that Jaune guessed meant it had stopped working. Looking up, he could only watch helplessly as the mace was lifted for a final blow, until a buzzer sounded, indicating the end to the match. As Professor Goodwitch stepped forward to give some probably important advice, Jaune could do nothing but stare at the display on his scroll and wonder how he had gotten here.

Standing outside of Professor (doctor) Ooblek's room, Pyrrha watched as Jaune was shoved to the ground by Carden, one of the many acts of bullying that the boy had performed throughout the to pick up her partner, Pyrrha couldn't help but be tempted by a conversation that had occurred earlier that day, in the cafeteria. "You know, I really will break his legs." Met with only a sigh from Jaune, Pyrrha quickly ran through options to cheer up her partner, and decided on what she thought was the best one. "I have an idea, come with me!" Bringing him out to a rooftop access she had recently discovered, she took a moment to look out over the skyline of Vale, and marvel at the view, when she was shaken from her thoughts by her partner's voice. "Pyrrha, I know I'm going through a hard time right now, but i'm not thad depressed, I could always be a farmer, or something." Looking down, she realized what her partner was insinuating, and quickly moved him away from the ledge. "No, thats not why I brought you up here! Jaune, I know that you're having a difficult time in class, and that you're still not the strongest of fighters, so I want to help you! We We can train up here after class where no one can bother us!" Jaune looked confused, and a little offended at this, much to Pyrrha's surprise. "You think I need help?" "Jaune, everybody needs a little push from time to time, it doesn't make you any different from the rest of us. You made it to Beacon, that speaks volumes to what you're capable of!" Jaune looked incredibly sad at this. "You're wrong, I don't belong here." Shocked, Pyrrha attempted to reassure her partner "That's a terrible thing to say, of course you do!" "No I don't!" Jaune wheeled around once again to face her "I didn't go to Combat school, didn't pass any tests, I didn't earn my spot at this Academy! I lied! I've wanted to be a hero all my life, but I was just never good enough." "Then let me help you be good enough!" This seemed to make Jaune incredibly angry. "I'm tired of being the lovable idiot, stuck in the tree while his friends fight for their lives! If I can't do this on my own, then what good am I?" As he made to storm out, Pyrrha grabbed him by the shoulder. "Jaune!" Jaune whirled around, anger resurfacing. "What?" Sighing, Pyrrha reached around behind him, and unclipped the miniature field projector from his belt. Opening it up, she shook the spent energy cells from the casing, and replaced them with a fresh set, then handed the array back to him. "At least let me teach you how to use the field generator." Sighing, Jaune's rage diminished, and he nodded. "Alright… Alright."

Author's note: As always, comments and criticism are always appreciated. Also, sorry for the almost cut-and-paste ending. The next few chapters start to move away from the show, I promise.
