Music and Songs Chapter 4
Jason releases Loren's arm, she moves away from him, she stands next to Eddie. Jason rolls his eyes, he can't stand Eddie, he walks around Jake's office like he owns the place, that upsets him. "I was talking to Loren."
"She asked you to leave her alone."
Loren walks towards the door; she looks at Eddie. "Thanks, I'll be back later."
Eddie makes sure Loren enters the elevator, he turns his attention towards Jason. "If I see you doing that again, I'll talk to Jake, you'll be out of here."
"You should mind your own business." He says while placing paper in the copy machine.
"I'm serious; you have to respect any young lady that walks into this office."
"Do you do it" Jason questions.
Eddie walks closer to him. "I mean it; I've never disrespected any girl, time to shut up, get back to work."
Jake walks in. "Is everything ok?"
Eddie looks at Jason, and back to Jake. "Jason and I have an understanding."
Jason walks back to his chair. Eddie turns towards Jake. "I have some ideas for my album cover."
"That's great Eduardo, come into my office." He follows Jake inside. When the door closes, Jason frowns. "One day Duran, I'm going to teach you a lesson."
It's noon, Loren makes her way to Kelly's. Katy's walking into the building too. "Good to see you Loren."
"Hi Katy." Loren hugs her. "Did you talk to your mom?"
"Yes, she said I should go for it."
Katy can't help but smile. "You're going to be amazing."
"I'm worried, who's going to watch Kelly's twins?"
"I made arrangements, my cousin will help Kelly when you're busy, once you launch your career, Kelly will make arrangements, she'll give my cousin a full time position."
Loren smiles. "You've thought of everything."
"The moment I heard you sing; I know you have what it takes to make it in this business."
"I appreciate your kind words, and your positive attitude." Loren adds.
"I will arrange for a voice coach to help you, your voice is great, but, she will help you with certain notes."
Loren can't stop smiling. "I'm very grateful to you."
"I'm here to help, let's go upstairs and talk to Kelly and Jake."
They enter Jake's office, Tyler Roark is talking to Jake, he turns and sees Katy walk in with Loren. "Hello, Katy Duran."
Katy gives him a small smile. "Hi Tyler." He turns his attention on Loren. "Who is this beautiful lady with you today?"
"This is Loren, that's all you need to know."
Loren smiles. "Nice to meet you." He kisses her hand. "The pleasure is all mine."
He walks out, Katy looks at Jake. "It's a go with Loren, what's on the agenda for our future star?"
"I have several songs lined up. Loren, how would you like to do a duet with Eddie?"
Loren's eyes widen. "Really? That would be amazing."
"I was talking to him earlier today about One day at a time; I think you two can make it a huge hit as a duet."
Katy likes the idea; she turns towards Loren. "Before you watch the twins at 1, get here by 9 tomorrow morning, you can record the song several times, we can take it from there."
"Sure Katy, I'll see you here at 8, will Eddie and I record the song together?"
"That's the plan, but, I want you to record yourself first then listen to it, we will have you and Eddie try it as a duet, don't panic Loren, when he does his next concert, you'll be there to sing it with him."
Loren's eyes widen. "Concert?"
"Yes, this is only the beginning, we need to get you ready with wardrobe and a stylist."
"Is all that necessary?"
Katy smiles. "Come here, I need you to look through some styles."
Loren follows Katy into the adjacent room next to Kelly's office. Loren looks at all the choices to choose from. She's happy with her long wavy hair, maybe a layered cut.
Eddie walks in and smiles when he sees Loren; she's still looking through a fashion magazine. "I heard the good news."
She looks at him. "Yes, thanks."
"Did you hear we will be recording One day at a time as a duet?"
"I heard, Katy wants me to rehearse a little on my own, record then listen to it, then we can record it."
Mel walks in, she sees Loren talking to Eddie and walks towards her. "Excuse me, can we talk Lo?"
Eddie excuses himself, Loren looks at Mel. "What's wrong?"
"I'm here to find out what Katy has planned?"
"I'll be recording the song on my own, then I'll do it with Eddie, guess what? I'll join him in concert."
"Are you serious?" Mel hugs her. "I knew it, I told you."
"I'm taking a break from school, I'll be here in the mornings, Katy will have a voice coach to help me, I'll continue to watch the twins until I'm on my own with my career." Loren sighs. "I can't believe I said that."
"You can do it Lo, do you realize you'll spending time with Eddie?"
"Yes Mel, it's a dream come true, I didn't expect this, I'm going to love every minute of it."
"Give it your all, you might do theater or TV shows."
"Can I get this out of the way first?"
The following weeks
Loren arrives early each morning, she works with a voice coach, then she records the song, and listens to it, this goes on for a few weeks. Within that time frame, Katy calls her stylist to cut Loren's hair into layers, she can straighten it or wear it wavy, Katy gets Loren a new wardrobe. It's finally time to record with Eddie, she's more at ease with Chloe traveling out of the country with her Modeling job.
After several sessions, a final copy is recorded and approved by Jake and the label. Jake releases the song to the well-known radio stations of Los Angeles, within a week, the Hollywood reporters want to know who's the girl singing the duet with Eddie, the song hits first place the first week it's released.
Max and Katy arranges to have Loren join Eddie at MK, they will sing the duet; that's the day Loren will be introduced to the media.
Nora and Mel arrive at Mk with Adam. Loren's in the dressing room, she's wearing a strapless black dress that wraps around her tiny curves perfectly, it sits above her knees. Katy's stylist and make-up artist get Loren ready for the night, she looks beautiful, Katy walks into her room. "You are perfect, there are at least 100 people out there, they're all reporters and a lot of marketing people, don't let them rush you into anything, remember I'm here to help you."
"You've done so much already; I don't know how else to thank you Katy."
"You can thank me by killing it out there, it's time to impress the media, do your very best Loren."
"I promise, I will."
Loren waits until Katy has everything in place. "Eddie will be on stage first, he'll introduce you, you'll walk towards him, smile at the audience, grab a mic and follow his lead."
Loren takes a deep breath. "I'm ready."
Eddie's on stage. "Ladies and Gentlemen, thank you for coming, I know many of you have been wondering who's the young lady that joined me with one of my popular songs, she's here tonight, we will sing the song, after we're done, my mom will be more than happy to answer your questions, let me invite Loren Tate to join me on stage."
Loren walks towards Eddie smiling, she looks beautiful, she acknowledges the audience and the moment Eddie grabs the mic, she takes the other one onto her hand, they begin the song. "One Day at a Time"
They capture the attention of the audience. Loren sings the song beautifully alongside Eddie, they dance and move about while singing the song, as soon as they're done, the audience gives them a standing ovation.
Eddie lifts Loren's hand up in the air, they look at each other with a big smile, then they look at the audience.
The reporters turn to Katy Duran who will be happy to answers all their questions, she introduces Loren.
"Mrs. Duran, will Loren have her set of music to sing?"
"Yes that is the plan; we introduced Loren Tate tonight with one of Eddie's songs, to show you how talented she is."
The questions continue, Nora and Mel stand nearby, they're happy and excited for Loren; Katy allows a few more questions and then dismisses everyone, she's done for the night. Loren heads to the lady's room with Mel in tow.
"You were amazing!" She hugs her best friend. "You think so?" Loren wonders.
"You and Eddie look great together."
Loren blushes. "We really do."
Chloe walks in laughing. "Well, well, well, I see Miss Nobody wants to make a name for herself."
Loren rolls her eyes and turns away. Mel looks at Chloe. "What's your problem twig?"
"Who are you calling twig?" She points her finger at Mel.
"Look at yourself, you resemble a twig, leave Loren alone."
"I want to make sure she doesn't get ideas with Eddie; I'm his girl, you're another money making performer for the Duran's."
Loren glares at her. "Why would you say that?"
"I'm telling it like it is little girl, just remember to leave my man alone."
Mel laughs out loud. "Wow, your man, we'll see about that, aren't you supposed to be out of the country?"
"I just got in; do you seriously think Eddie would look at you the way he looks at me?" She directs her attention on Loren.
"Come on Mel, I don't need to stand here and listen to her."
She grabs Mel's hand and they walk out of the bathroom. "I can take her!" Mel says.
"Stop it, you're not stooping to her level."
"She's jealous, you look great on stage with Eddie, you're going to be amazing Loren."
Katy sees Loren walking out of the lady's room. "Loren!" she waves; Loren heads her way. "Thanks again for everything."
"You were outstanding, we start this week, I need you to look through some songs, look for songs that will fit your personality."
"I have a song I wrote a while back; do want to hear it?"
Katy furrows her eyebrows. "You wrote a song?"
Loren blushes. "I have several Katy, that's another hobby I enjoy very much."
"Amazing." Katy tells her. "Have some of your songs ready on Monday, we'll hear them and take it from there."
"Really?" Loren's excited Katy agreed. "Of course."
Nora stops next to Loren, not sure if she should interrupt their conversation. Loren's excited to introduce her mom to Katy. "Mom, this is the amazing Katy Duran."
Katy's pleased. "It's great to meet Loren's mom."
"The pleasure is all mine Katy, thank you for taking my daughter under your wing."
"It's my pleasure, Loren is very talented, I'll be here to help her." Katy says.
"I'm proud of my daughter, I always told her she has what it takes to make it in the music world, I'm glad she finally believed me."
"After tonight, there's no turning back Loren." She places her arm around Loren's shoulder. "I know Katy; I promise I won't disappoint you." Loren assures her.
There's a lot of cheering going on around the stage area. Katy, Loren and Nora turn towards the noise, Eddie's on stage, he's down on one knee, Chloe looks at him with the biggest smile. Flashes go off everywhere; Loren's heart breaks. She along with the audience hears Eddie ask Chloe.
"Will you marry me?"
No! Eddie no! Now what? Eddie's about to make a huge mistake.
