''How much longer?'' Lu asked, pacing back and forth in Andy's rather small upstairs bathroom.
''Just a minute,'' Andy said, pulling Lu closer to herself. ''Calm down. It's going to be fine.''
''Fine? Having another baby on my own?'' Lu said, panicking on the inside. It had been nearly two months since Jonas had left. Moved to Rio. They hadn't talked since. And now… she thought it had been the stress that had made her period late.
''I'm sure he'll want to be involved,'' Andy said, ''and if not, you know you've got all of us at the clinic, we'll help you; you're not on your own.''
They both froze when the timer went off.
Andy held Lu's hands in her own, not wanting to admit to herself how nice that felt. ''Are you ready?''
Lu took a deep breath, picking it up from the counter.
The shaky sigh, the tears brimming in her eyes; Andy didn't have to ask what the test read.
