Eddie or Danny? chapter 15

Eddie pulls Loren into a hug. "I see you've been busy."

She smiles. "Thanks, I've been very busy, I'm sure you know Danny?"

"I do, hey Dan; heard your duet with Loren was a hit."

Danny motions his hand and taps fists with Eddie. "She's an amazing songwriter, it's a hit."

Ian interrupts. "Dinner's ready."

Eddie turns to Loren. "I came by to chat for a while, I see you're busy."

"Its fine Eddie, please join us, I want you to stay for dinner."

Ian pulls him by the arm. "Come on Mate, sit." He places Eddie in front of a seat.

Loren walks into the kitchen. "Why didn't you text to tell me Eddie's here?"

"I busy with dinner, he arrived an hour ago, Ian invited him, I didn't know you were going to bring Danny."

"Danny was hungry, I knew you had dinner ready, didn't think he'd be here."

"It's too late now, get two bottles of wine, I've got the platter ready."

Loren grabs the wine; she walks back to the dining room table. "I hope everyone's hungry."

Ian places the garlic toast and the salad on the table. "I'm starving."

Loren sits between Eddie and Danny. Ian passes the platter around the table. Danny notices the tension in the room and looks at Mel. "Loren was right, this pasta is amazing."

"Thank you Ian." She looks at Loren. "I bet it's much better today?"

Loren takes a forkful of spaghetti, she smiles back. "It's amazing Mel."

Eddie tries some spaghetti. "This is really good Mel."

"Thank you all." Mel's happy her dish was a success.

"I should have brought dessert." Eddie says, Danny takes his phone out. "I know a great place, they deliver, let me order some."

Eddie looks at him. "It's ok, I'll order dessert."

"Too late Eddie, you can get it next time, it'll be here soon." Danny flashes a smile towards Eddie.

"Yeah sure." Eddie isn't too pleased.

Loren tries to keep the conversation going. "Does anyone need more wine?"

"I'll have a little more." Ian hands her his wine glass.

Everyone enjoys their dinner, the table's cleared, dessert arrives on time, it's chocolate cake with a gallon of gourmet ice cream. Mel and Loren take it to the kitchen.

"What's with Eddie tonight?" Mel wonders.

Loren's confused with Mel's question. "Why do you ask?"

"He seems bothered you're here with Danny, did you notice they rushed to get dessert?"

Loren takes her heels off. "He's tired, he's back from Toronto."

"You're blind Lo, he's not too happy Danny is here."

"Why? Danny and I are friends." She gets the plates for the cake and ice-cream; she places a serving on each plate, she walks back to the dining room. Loren's cell phone rings, she walks to the side of the living room area; Eddie looks at Danny. "How much longer are you working with Loren?"

"I don't know, I hope we can do more, she's an amazing song writer, I have a connection with my girl."

Eddie furrows. "Your girl? What do you mean your girl?"

Danny laughs. "Every time I work with any female artist, I call them my girl."

Eddie rolls his eyes. "Really? You just met Loren."

"It doesn't matter." Danny response quickly.

"The media gets a hold of that, they're going to assume you're a couple."

Danny makes eye contact with Eddie. "Maybe it's not a bad idea, Loren's great, I've gotten to know her very well, I like her."

"Hate to break it to you Dan…she's probably not interested."

"Maybe, I'm going to make sure she knows how I feel, I mean its ok right Eddie?"

"What do you mean?"

Danny can tell Eddie's annoyed. "Exactly what I said, I know you're a big brother to Loren, thanks to you, Loren's in this business, she's special, honestly I love spending time with her."

Eddie gets up and walks away. Loren returns from her call; she looks at Eddie. "Katy and Kelly called, they'll be stopping by to give us some news."

"Did they hint what it's about?"

"No, they said to wait until they get here."

Danny gets up. "I really enjoyed dinner, I have an early appointment tomorrow." He walks to where Loren's talking to Eddie. "I'll see you soon?"

"Yes, we have to finish the video, I'll call you with the time."

Danny hugs Loren, he places a quick peck on her cheek. "It's going to be amazing Loren." He says good-bye to Mel and Ian, he leaves. Loren clears the table, Eddie trails behind her.

"Let me help you."

Loren piles several plates. "It's ok, I can do it."

"There are a lot of dirty dishes, I can help."

Loren pours soap dish over the sink, the water flows onto the dishes. "Things look serious between you and Danny."

"We're working on a video, we recorded a duet, we might do another song, the first one climbed the charts pretty fast."

"He seems to be into you."

Loren smiles. "He's a great friend, we get along."

"He's a friend?"

Loren glances at him. "Yes, he is, why?"

Eddie hesitates, he has to ask. "I'm still a friend, aren't I?"

She stops rinsing the plates and looks at him. "We've always been friends; we had a great time working together, we don't see each other that much, of course we're friends."

"He seems to think differently, he called you his girl."

Loren laughs. "Danny's a sweet guy."

Eddie takes a towel from the counter and starts to dry the dishes. "Maybe you and I can work on another song, your first album hit the top 5 for weeks."

"Kelly wants me to start working on my second album."

"My mom was right; you're going to be huge."

"She's had so much faith in me."

"What about your career as a lawyer?"

"I love to read my books; I catch myself going over the material. I'll always love the thought of being a lawyer, but I love music, I love doing this."

Mel and Ian walk in with more dishes. "You guys are washing everything?"

"Eddie's a great helper, leave those there, I'm sure Eddie won't mind helping."

He grabs the towel from the rack. "I'll dry them all."

"Your turn to do the dishes, I'll dry them this time." Loren teases.

After they're done, Mel and Ian walk back to the living room. "What's with Eddie?"

"I don't know; he's trying to figure how Danny fits into Loren's life."

Mel stops Ian. "What? Why?"

"Don't know, when he arrived, he asked about Danny and Loren."

"Is that why he was whispering?"

"Yes, I asked if he was jealous, he said, he's looking out for her."

Mel laughs. "Ian! He's jealous?"

"He said no, now I see him in the kitchen doing dishes, don't know what to think."

Mel shakes her head. "Rock star Duran doing dishes, how much would a picture of him doing dishes go for?" Mel teases.

Ian pulls Mel into his arms. "I wouldn't try sweets."

"What are you going to do about it?"

Ian moves his eye brows up and down, he pulls Mel into a kiss; she wraps her arms around his neck and their kiss deepens. Loren and Eddie walk in; they cough to get their attention. Mel waves her hand; she's telling them to go away.

Eddie holds Loren's hand and they walk to the terrace. "I've never seen Ian this happy, glad he met Mel."

"She's awesome, I know she's happy."

"Do you want to go for a walk?"

Loren's heart skips a beat. "Your mom and Kelly are coming?"

Eddie sits on the edge of the terrace. "Oh yeah, it's a beautiful night, Ian's with Mel, where can we go?"

Loren looks inside. "They're gone; guess they stepped outside."

Eddie hears noises below. "I see them; they're headed to Ian's car."

Loren smiles, she doesn't want to get to close to the ledge. "That's the only thing that scares me about this Condo, we're 8 floors up, I'm not comfortable looking down."

"You have an amazing view, have you seen the sunsets from this height?"

"Yes, I sit here with my cup of tea, I enjoy the sunrises too."

The doorbell rings, Loren walks into the living room area. She opens the door and finds a smiling Katy and Kelly.

"Come on in."

Eddie waves. "Hey mom…what's going on?"

"You waited; I didn't think you had the patience to wait for us."

"Loren said you wanted us to wait, is everything ok?"

Katy and Kelly look at each other. "Should I tell them?"

"You do it Katy, I'm here to witness the reaction." Loren furrows her eyes; she looks at Eddie. "You two better speak up, we're freaking out!"

Katy tells them to sit, Eddie and Loren sit across from them. "Kelly and Jake got a call this morning, this fax came in." She hands them a piece of paper.

Loren looks at it, not quite understanding what it's about. "What is it?" Eddie smiles. "You've been nominated for a Grammy."

Loren's eyes widen. "What?"

Katy hugs her. "Loren, it's for BEST NEW ARTIST and BEST FEMALE VOCAL PERFORMANCE."

Loren hugs her back and starts to cry. "Omg are you serious? Me?"

Kelly hugs her too. "Yes you, I knew it, I knew you had potential to get this far and you have."

She turns towards Eddie who immediately pulls her into a hug. "Congrats Loren."

"I'm sure Eddie been nominated too."

He smiles. "Let me guess?"

"He's up for best Album and song."

Katy hands Loren a tissue. "Here, we have to get you ready, we need to find the perfect dress, this is a big deal; all eyes will be on you Loren, it's your first Grammy nomination."

Loren wipes her eyes. "I'm going to need your help Katy."

"We will both help you."

"Get a pen Loren, we need to sign this and fax it back, they need confirmation that you received news of your nomination, and you're accepting it."

"Who'd turn a Grammy down?"

Kelly hands Loren a pen. "Not going to say names, but, there's been a few."

Katy looks through her phone. "We need to get you a date for that night, I don't know if you want to ask Danny, I know you've been working on a video, it would be great to be seen together at the Grammies."

Eddie interrupts his mom. "It doesn't have to be Danny."

Katy knows where he's headed, she decides to play along and make things harder for her son. "I think Danny would be the perfect date for Loren."

Loren sighs, Eddie continues. "I disagree; Loren should decide who she wants to go with."

Katy looks at Loren. "Sweetie do you want to pick your date or we can suggest?"

"Do I need a date?"

"Yes you do, it's your first nomination, it's great to arrive with a well-known artist on your arm."

Loren lets out a soft sigh; she knows who she'd love to take with her on the most important night of her life.

She traces the outline of her fingernails, Katy speaks up before Loren can say another word. "You can ask Danny or Eddie, you pick." Katy smiles, she knows how Loren feels.

Her eyes glance towards Eddie, he's looking at her. What if she chooses Danny?
