CHAPTER 6: AS DIRTY AS HIS BROTHER

Slick was at his makeshift office on site of the theater at night. He was on the phone with some of his financial backers. They wanted to know what was the holdup with demolition.

"The mayor postponed all construction until at least after the 4th of July," he explained on the phone. "It's completely out of my hands! You have nothing to worry about, though. This poke town is so poor I don't think they will be able to raise the money needed to keep this dump open. You think they'd could raise it?! What do I have plan if they do? I do have a Plan B in the works. It involves some fireworks of my own, if you catch my drift. Hell no I won't blow the folks up; I'm not trying to commit murder here! I'll wait until everyone is gone. Yes I'm fully aware of my brother's failure to do the same to Paleka last year in Hawaii. In his defense, he was following orders from Burton Reeves. I'm my own boss, THAT'S the difference between my loser brother and I. Look, if they fail to raise the money, we will go with demolition as planned, if they Do raise it, we will go with Plan B, plain and simple. I do have a man that will help with the explosives. Yeah. Okay, thanks. I will be in touch." And Slick hung up the phone. Little did he know a worker overheard his conversation. He left so he wouldn't be found out by Slick.

At the mayor's office, the worker, whose name was Orville, told the mayor about Slick's plan to blow up the theater if the money to save it was raised.

"He has no intention of playing fair, your honor," Orville said , after explaining the scheme to the mayor.

"I see," said the mayor. "Well, the show will go on as planned. We will have heightened security before, during, and after the show is done. We will have undercover police in the crowd and around the theater. You just keep going about your business as if you heard nothing of this plan."

"Yes, sir," said Orville. He then left the mayor's office. The mayor got on the speaker and buzzed his secretary.

"Miss Jenkins?" he said.

"Yes, sir?" Miss Jenkins responded.

"Get me in touch with the sheriff."
