Something More Hollywood Heights
What if? Chapter 33
Loren's mortified, Eddie's in their bedroom, their wedding pictures are hanging on the wall.
She stops at the door; Eddie looks at her. "We're married?"
She looks at Ian and Mel. "I couldn't tell you anything, Dr.'s orders."
He walks closer to the pictures on the wall. "I knew my dreams at a beach meant something, why couldn't I remember any of this?"
Ian steps in. "Your injuries were very serious mate, the Dr.'s don't want to traumatize you, we couldn't tell you too much at once, we wanted to tell you."
"Who's Charlie?"
Loren turns away, tears roll down her cheeks. Mel hugs her, she turns to Ian, she signals him to say something, anything.
"We had to make you believe Charlie was married to Loren because she wouldn't leave your side, we couldn't tell you at the time she's your wife."
He walks out of the room, he sits in the chair closest to him. "I don't remember anything, I knew you were important in my life Loren, I'm sorry."
His eyes widen. "You're having my baby?"
Loren sighs. "Yes."
He sits in disbelief. "How could this happen? This is a nightmare; I hate this, I can't remember!"
Loren's heart aches to see him hurting this much; he can't remember his life with her. "I have to leave; I don't know what to say, I'm causing more pain."
Ian trails behind him. "Hey mate, let me come with you; you can't be alone right now."
"How can I stay here knowing how much I've hurt Loren?"
"You're not hurting her on purpose, Jason attacked you months ago, he almost killed you, you laid in a coma for weeks, you woke up and didn't remember anything mate, not even Loren, I repeat the Dr.'s said we couldn't say anything to you, we had to take each day one day at a time, they said you might get your memory back."
He turns to Ian; his eyes say it all. "And if I don't? What am I supposed to do?"
"Relax, you'll remember, you love Loren."
"I don't even remember that!"
"You need to be patient, Loren loves you too, she had no say what could be revealed to you, she's been hurting as much as you have, then she finds out she's pregnant with your baby, she couldn't say anything to you."
"I love her right?"
"Of course you love her and you still do, you can't remember right now, she's your world, it took you a while to realize you loved her, it took two guys to wake you up."
Eddie furrows his eye brows. "What guys?"
Ian sighs. "Aside from the idiot that attacked you, Loren was pursued by two other guys, they were in love with her, she only had eyes for you mate, she loves you."
He pulls his hair back. "This is a mess; I have to remember Ian."
"You don't remember we're best friends either, it'll come back to you."
"That's what scares me, what if my life remains a blank canvas?"
"The Dr.'s didn't want anyone to tell you to much at once."
"I don't feel too bad though."
"Why?" Ian asks trying to figure out what he means.
"I'm attracted to Loren; I love her that's why."
Meanwhile…
"Please stop crying." Mel tells Loren.
"He doesn't remember anything about our life together, did you see the frustration in his face?"
"He will, give it time; I think this is great, he saw your wedding pictures and he knows he's married to you."
"I'm scare Mel, he has to remember our life together, our wedding, our kisses, making love, we made this baby, he has to remember!"
"Stay positive Loren, you need to stay calm for Eddie and your baby."
Eddie and Ian arrive at his parents' house. Eddie walks in, he heads to his room. Katy and Max are in the living room watching TV."
"Where is he going?" Katy asks.
Ian takes a deep breath. "He knows."
"He knows what?" Katy wonders, Max gets up. "What does he know?"
"We were at Loren's, he accidentally walked into their bedroom, he saw their wedding pictures, he can't remember anything, he's frustrated."
Max makes his way to Eddie's room. "Max, be careful what you say."
"I know honey, be right back." Max walks in on Eddie, he's packing his things. "Where are you going?"
"I'm going home pops."
"Home?"
He looks at him. "I know I'm married to Loren, I'm going home, maybe I'll remember something."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes I'm sure, she's my wife, she's going to have my baby, I have to be there with her, maybe that'll trigger something."
He places his things in a bag and heads both downstairs, Max trails behind him. Katy knows exactly where he's going.
"You're going back to Loren?" She asks.
"I have to remember mom; I belong with my wife."
"I can assure you she's in love in with you and you're crazy about her." She hugs him and gently pushes him towards the door.
"Go home sweetie." She looks at Ian. "Make sure he's home before you leave him?"
"I will Katy, no worries."
They leave, Ian stops in front of Loren's Condo. "Is this our home?"
"Yes, this is your home with Loren."
"My mom says she's crazy about me, is that true?"
"She loved you the moment she laid eyes on you; it took you a while to realize you wanted something more than a friendship."
"I know we have a connection, I felt guilty dreaming about her, every time I saw her, I felt happy."
He exits the car; he takes his bag; Ian helps him get to the floor where he lives with Loren.
The door's ajar. Ian peeks in and finds Mel sitting next to Loren, she's fallen asleep on the couch. She smiles when she sees Eddie walking in with his things. She whispers.
"She's been asleep for an hour; you're moving back home?"
"Yes, I think its best I'm here with her."
Mel's excited. "She's going to be very happy."
He looks at Loren. "She's beautiful."
"The baby's been kicking a lot." Mel says.
"Really, our baby is moving."
Mel holds his hand and guides it to Loren's tummy. "Place your hand here."
As soon as he does, Loren opens her eyes. "You're back?"
He sits next to her. Mel holds Ian's hand. "Ok you too, we're leaving, if you need anything you know how to reach me."
She gives Mel a look of appreciation. "Thanks Mel, I love you."
"I love you more."
They leave and Eddie turns his attention on Loren. "I'm moving back home."
"Are you sure it's ok?"
"I need help remembering, you're my wife, maybe that'll speed things up."
He places his hand on her tummy and the baby suddenly kicks. "Was that the baby?"
"Yes, our son is moving."
His eyes widen. "That's right, it's a boy, I forgot you mentioned it earlier, I'm trying hard to be excited, it hurts I can't remember anything."
He looks at Loren. "I'm sorry, I'm putting you through so much."
"It's not your fault, I'm sorry you were attacked."
"It's not your fault." He tells her.
They lock eyes. Loren moistens her lips, she misses him, she wants to be with him so bad, but how? She's uneasy about kissing him, he doesn't remember having a relationship with her. She down casts her eyes, the worst thoughts come to mind, what if he never remembers their life together, what if he has to learn to love her again? Many things run through her head. Eddie gently nudges her.
"You ok?"
"Yes, I'm going to get ready for bed."
She gets up and walks towards her room, Eddie watches her walk away, he smiles. He hears Loren in the shower, he takes his things to the other room; he changes into comfy clothes and walks back and turns on the TV.
By the time Loren walks out of the shower, he's fast asleep on the recliner. She feels safe with him; she lowers the volume on the TV and walks back to her room, somehow she knows he'll be more comfortable on the recliner; she doesn't want to push him to join her in bed, at least not yet.
A week later
Eddie's back with Jake and Kelly, he's going over several songs, he rehearses some of the songs he's written, he hasn't lost his singing voice, he sounds better than ever, he stays busy, he's tries to remember everything before his encounter with Jason.
Loren's bump is showing more each week; she's approaching her 6 months. She's busy getting the nursery ready, she continues to write more songs.
Katy drops by. "Hi sweetie, this room looks amazing."
"I had some plaques made with trains and cars painted on them." Loren shows her the wall.
"It's a perfect room for a little boy, Max's very excited, get ready, that little boy will be spoiled." Katy adds.
Katy notices she's sad. "He's going to remember Loren, I know he's trying, I'm glad he's back home."
"I know, I miss what we had, he tries, he sleeps in the guest room, I think he feels uncomfortable sleeping in the same bed with me, I'm still a stranger to him."
"I'm sure he wants too, he needs time."
Loren places the diaper bag over a hook and sighs heavily. "My life is weird, I had to wait for him to realize how much I loved him and, we're back at square one again."
"I know, it'll work out."
Eddie walks in along with Max. They're laughing. Max is holding a huge Teddy bear. "Where did you get that?" Katy wonders.
"I saw it at Patty's lil' tikes, I knew it'd look great in this nursery."
Loren smiles. "I always wanted a huge teddy bear."
"This isn't for you, it's for my grandson." Max tells her.
He places it inside the crib. "Do you see what I mean, it's perfect."
Eddie smiles, his eyes look towards Loren. "I told you she'd love it."
Katy gets her bag and holds Max's hand. "We're leaving; enough spoiling for now, let's wait for the little guy to be born, don't forget the dinner party for Ian tomorrow."
"We won't Katy, thank you." Loren says.
They hug and leave. He looks at Loren. "Are you hungry?"
She smiles. "That's an understatement, you know I'm always hungry."
He doesn't respond, he feels guilty, he doesn't remember anything. Loren continues to place things in the nursery, he sits in the rocking chair Nora gave Loren, he watches her decorate their son's nursery. She's beautiful. Why can't he remember a life with her? Little things come back in spurs, but he can't piece them together, at least not yet. He wants to kiss her, hold her, he needs to remember before they make love.
Loren catches him starring. "You ok? I thought we were hungry?"
He realizes Loren's talking to him. "Yes, just got lost in thought, I want to remember everything about us, I hate this."
She holds his face with her two hands. "You will remember, I love you, I'll always love you, do you doubt me?"
He locks eyes with her. "Of course not."
Loren looks into his brown eyes and down to his lips, she can't help it, she leans in to kiss him. It's time, he's been home a month and this is the first kiss she has the courage to give him. Eddie brings her closer to him, their kiss deepens; he picks her up and takes her to their room.
A few hours later, Loren's cuddling next to Eddie. He's quiet. "You ok?"
"Yes, making love to you is beyond beautiful; I thought it'd remind me of our life together."
"Are you sorry we did?" She wonders.
"No, the moment I knew you were my wife I wanted too; I didn't feel it was right."
"We're married, I'm glad it happened." Loren sits up.
He looks at her. "I was talking to Jake."
Loren grabs the robe that's on the chair. "What about?"
"I want tour, I know I can do this, at least in the California area, I need to get my feet wet again."
Loren gets closer to him. "I can't travel right now."
"I know; I would go alone."
She furrows her eyes. "You want to do it now? I thought we're trying to spend time together?"
"I need this time away; I need to see if touring will help me remember."
Loren lets out a quiet sigh. "Oh…"
She looks at him; he looks confused, he's lost in a world where nothing makes sense, she wonders it'll ever make sense to him? Will she get him back? He wants to tour alone, she caresses her baby bump, she hopes this baby will help him remember their life together.
