Okay, first of all, I am SO sorry for the delay in update. I was experiencing some writer's block for this fanfic and I decided to work on some other fanfics I have going to try and work through it so I could give you all chapters I was happy with to give you all to read. So, thank you all for your patience and bearing with me through that and my hectic work schedule. :) Anyway, this chapter begins around the same time as the 'Aleheather repeat proposal in the previous chapter with Gerardo smoothly schmoozing his way into Craig's favor by taking him for a golf outing at their local country club in suburban Ottawa. I'm splitting this chapter into two parts to avoid it being insanely long. But both installments will show background on how Heather's parents met as teenagers during the 1970's a couple months before Alejandro's did. And to give more background on how things ended up currently in time. Anyway, hope you enjoy!
({No POV})
Although not avid going members of their local country club or being much of a fan of golf, Gerardo wanted to make a point of taking advantage of their local country club by taking Heather's father out golfing to get in his 'good graces'.
Especially considering the last time they interacted with each involved Craig getting the wrong idea when he was talking to Heather's mother and got immediately jealous.
But, judging by the smile on Craig's face as they walked back into the clubhouse and clapped Gerardo on the back and offered to buy him a drink after their 9 hole round…
Gerardo took it all as a marked success.
Eventually the two sat on bar stools as other members conversed around them as Craig said, looking ecstatic as a kid in a candy shop practically exclaimed, "Well that was excellent! The wind and weather worked out perfectly. Good game!"
Craig held up his glass of whiskey as Gerardo grinned and lifted his.
"Salude." Gerardo said as they clinked glasses as Craig grinned and replied, "Cheers."
They both sipped their drinks before Gerardo started trying to get the ball rolling, "Well, I'm glad to see everyone is pleased with the engagement thus far. Thank you for making the trip up to us."
Craig smiled and replied, "Not at all! Especially after that last game, I'd gladly drive up here any time. But, in all seriousness, I never thought this day would come with Heather. Though I really must give you credit, those are some top notch boys you have there. Alejandro is a fantastic golfer and José really knows his stuff. We must have talked business for upwards of an hour when he came with Kelsey for Christmas."
Craig took another sip and Gerardo seemed to internally go into a spiral of intrigue.
Mostly at the mention of José.
Though Gerardo loves all his sons equally, even he couldn't deny (and as he even stated to José's face several months ago) that he does not think his son is a diamond to any extent.
But, he was at least intrigued as far as the Wilson's were concerned, especially with Kelsey, when it came to her 'involvement' with his middle son.
Gerardo always knew his son was the worst kind of wanderer when it came to women, preferring his one time flings to seriously dating in any and all respects and not really sticking his lessons in 'manners' as well as Carlos and Alejandro in most situations.
Mainly that he has never known his son to have a girlfriend or even be involved with any woman for a period of time beyond a couple weeks maybe.
But Kelsey… She seemed to practically be the exception to José's rule which has intrigued Gerardo to no end about her, and he or his wife have yet to even meet her.
Regardless of the consistency with being on/off for all he knew about the two, José would sometimes not come back to the house for days on end over the past several months and only when prompted and coerced by either himself or Elena would just say he was 'at Kelsey's'.
He even left for a whole week with Kelsey about a month ago to apparently go with her to a wedding for a friend of hers from school.
Again, regardless of what their relationship together 'entails', Gerardo was still almost oddly fascinated by Kelsey and 'whatever it is' that keeps making his son go back to her time and time again and achieving with his son where many other young women failed with holding his middle son's attention.
Even if it's mostly physical (as he assumed is probably the majority of the reason), he was still impressed and still almost flabbergasted that Kelsey has somehow managed to get anywhere with José.
But, he decided to put those thoughts aside for another time and decided to just smoothly transition the conversation to where he wanted to, "Muchas gracias, as a father I'll take that as quite a high compliment. Speaking of family, Elena and I are trying to come up with a list of various family, friends, and relations to finalize the invitations. And we'd like to include all of Alejandro and Heather's surviving grandparents if possible. My parents are flying in from Spain as well as Elena's mother for the party. Unfortunately my father-in-law passed about 5 years ago. But, do you and Camille still have any of your parents around who would be able to come?"
Craig got a slight hesitant feeling come over him in that moment but took a sip of his whiskey to correct himself before he replied, "Well, Camille's parents have both been gone for probably 10 years. They had her and my brother-in-law Liam later in life. And my father usually doesn't like to leave his estate in Tahiti unless feels like he has to, but he'll probably attend the wedding."
Craig took another sip of his drink as Gerardo tilted his head and quirked up an eyebrow at Craig's opaque response.
Although that seemed to get overshadowed by a particular detail he left out. While Craig addressed that both his wife's parents had passed away and his own father, he didn't address anything concerning his own mother.
Gerardo even elaborated on this thought out loud as he probed cautiously, "I see… but, if you don't mind my asking, what about your mother? Is she still alive?"
There was a long pause as Craig swirled his half tumbler of whiskey in his hand and watched the liquid swirl for a moment, though his outward 'indifferent pondering' seemed to just be a cover for his insides feeling like they were converging at the touchy subject that was just brought up.
But, Craig just looked in front of him as he responded off handedly, "Not sure. She left my father and I when I was 7. Haven't seen her since and I have no idea where she is."
After Craig finished, he proceeded to down the remainder of his drink as Gerardo responded, feeling awkward and apologetic for bringing it up as he apologized, "Oh, I'm quite sorry. I had no idea."
But, it appeared Craig wasn't even offended but more just looked like he wanted to 'drop the subject' all together and talk about something else as he passed off, "Nevermind. There's no use wallowing in it. Unless it means wallowing in another glass of this whiskey. Now 'this' is a treat. Excuse me, bartender, another round for me and my friend please."
Gerardo just kept looking at Craig in deep thought as he processed what was said.
It was a warm Friday in early fall in suburban Toronto.
People were just getting off work and school in late afternoon and early evening getting ready to go out and have fun to kick off their weekend while the weather was still warm enough to do so.
And one particular young man about the age of 17 was no exception.
Craig Vincent Wilson II
He smoothed back his low fade side parted and then light-brown hair as he readjusted his golf bag over his shoulder, grinning as he started heading to the front of the house.
He was just about to open the front door to head out to meet up with his friends until he heard a familiar, "Got any plans there, junior?"
Craig junior looked behind him to see his then early middle aged father standing in the archway leading into his home office and study.
Craig Vincent Wilson I
While middle aged and not as 'fit' as he was in his younger years and showing signs of age via his thinning and graying light brown hair, Craig senior was still a very physically and mentally imposing man.
He gave his son a steady gaze behind his glasses as he crossed his arms and quirked up an eyebrow as he awaited a response.
Craig junior, who at this point was more confused and annoyed than anything, responded as he motioned with his thumb behind him, "Um… yes. I'm going to the driving range with Rory and Michael."
Then immediately Craig senior cut in as he said, "Like hell you are. You have more important crap to do."
Craig junior tilted his head and readjusted his glasses as he stuttered, nervous about where this was going, "W-What?"
Craig senior appeared to be ignoring his son as he walked up to him and took the golf bag off his son's shoulder and tossed it aside in one swift motion before pulling some things out from the inside of his suit jacket.
He then gave Craig junior a stern glare as he said, his tone nothing but dead serious, "Guess what son? Today's your lucky day. Here's money, a map, and the Lim's address. Cuz you are gonna drive over there and take out my associate Peter Lim's daughter on a date."
Craig junior's eyes went wide as his expression contorted in complete and total confusion at what his father just told him to do. Mainly that he couldn't believe what he was being told to do that was going to keep him from his Friday night out with his friends.
It was almost like he forgot he was talking to his father for a moment as Craig junior retorted, sounding like a typical outraged and put out teenager, "Wait, what? You gotta be kidding me? You're telling me to ditch going golfing with my friends to go out with some chick I've never even met? No."
But then Craig junior was immediately reminded he was talking to his father as Craig senior immediately towered over his son and sized him up, getting almost nose to nose with him, "Look junior, I don't care if you have to cancel meeting the PM for a Scotch and soda. You are going to take out this girl and show her a good time, understand?"
Craig junior, while still terrified of his father, still looked the epitome of put out and displeased about the entire situation as Craig senior stepped back slightly and crossed his arms before letting out a long sigh through his nose while continuing, "Listen, perhaps I need to remind you again on how 'business' works? Everything is about the art of the deal in order to get what you want. Peter Lim has a metric crap ton of money that I'd like to have a piece of. But that stubborn old coot's been dragging me and not accepting any offer I've been giving him. This deal could give us more money than we'd ever know what to do with. And unfortunately for me, no amount of money or resources I offer him are enough since his capital currently doubles mine. But… there is something we have that the Lim's don't that they want desperately. Status. The Lim's are self-made and our family name is older than father time in the social circles around here and they would do anything to get themselves or their children advanced in those circles. And that's where you come in."
Craig junior, whose expression now settled on displeased at being told what to do, looked like he was going to attempt to protest at being forced into an 'arranged blind date' by his father.
Well until Craig senior sized him up again as he jabbed his son in the chest with stern fire in his eyes, "Look slick, for once can you not be a useless little schmuck and do something useful with yourself for once?!... While you spend all your time putzing around with your buddies and golf clubs that I so 'generously' got you to give you what I didn't at your age, you do nothing in return to prove you earned them. You don't work, you don't contribute, and you have no useful skills beyond smiling and tying your own fucking shoes. When I was your age, I didn't have free time to sit on my ass and fart around a golf course. I was both busting and sweating my ass off in a steel mill and had to drop out of school to pull my weight along with carrying the weight of your useless grandparents on my shoulders to keep the family from being fucking destitute. AND I had your mother's shit on top of that to deal with later on. And I've had enough with supporting useless relatives and their bullshit at this point in my life. But, fortunately for you, the Lim's and their daughter don't know how damn useless and lazy you are. So, I'll tell you once more… take this shit I'm giving you and pick up their daughter. And since I'm generous… I'll even cut you a deal. Take out old Pete's daughter and show her a good time, and I'll buy you that brand new sports car you won't shut up about. Deal?"
Craig junior, while still not 'happy', eventually took the map, cash, and address from his dad.
Craig senior, now seeming more satisfied with his son's compliance, merely responded with a short, "Good."
Craig junior looked over the address and looked at the map as his father started walking away before he suddenly looked at his father once more and complained, mainly that he'd never even gone on a date before in his life at this point in favor of spending all his free time golfing, "But… what am I supposed to do? Where do I even take her?"
Craig senior stopped abruptly before slowly looking over his shoulder and responding, "I don't care. You wanted to go golfing, so take her out for something to eat and mini-golfing for all I give a damn. That's something kids your age do for fun. Just make sure she has enough of a good time to possibly give her old man some good feedback, eh?"
After that Craig senior walked out of the room and into the parlor (most likely to pour himself a drink after the frustrating discussion with his son) as Craig junior stood there in wide eyed silence continued to freeze up.
Eventually Craig junior knit his eyebrows together and scowled in displeasure as he walked out the door and started stomping toward his car in pissed off angst as he grumbled under his breath, "Fucking jip..."
After that he hopped into his current car and slammed the driver's side door before making his way off to his 'date' against his wishes.
Then after an angry 15 minute drive to the Lim's one town over from his and his father's home… he double checked the address and saw a large but standard wealthy class home much like his and saw it definitely was the Lim's.
After letting out what sounded like a sigh mixed with a groan at his current situation.
It also wasn't until now that he saw what he could only assume was his father's business associate's daughter's name written on the bottom of the same paper.
"Camille?" He looked at the paper once more before looking back at the house and shoving the paper in his pocket as he rolled his eyes.
The whole way up to the door, all he did was keep almost repeating to himself in an angry but focused mantra that it was 'for the new car'.
Eventually Craig junior rang the doorbell before folding his hands in front of himself and looked at a nearby rosebush while he waited. The door opened as his mouth went agape slightly and he went wide eyed at who he saw walk into his field of view as he absentmindedly readjusted his glasses.
It was a young woman the same age as him with an extremely fair complexion. Her shoulder length raven hair pulled back into a ponytail and wearing a sleeveless blouse with a pair of Capri pants and penny loafers walked into the doorway with a neutral to slightly bored expression on her face.
Well or at least her expression was 'bored' until she saw Craig junior. Her grey eyes going wide in surprise as the two proceeded to look at each other, almost like they were awkwardly and obviously checking each other out in true awkward teen fashion.
It was clear Craig especially was completely taken off guard and just kept staring at this girl he was not expecting to find as attractive as he did at the current moment.
Actually, in Craig's opinion, she was very pretty... and he had no clue what to do at the current moment.
Though apparently the 'attraction' seemed to be mutual since Camille seemed to be doing the same thing back at Craig.
Eventually; however, Camille smiled slightly at her unexpectedly cute 'arranged date' for the evening via her parents and started, trying to break up the awkward staring between them, "Um hi... you're Craig, right?"
Craig junior; meanwhile, might as well have been on another planet as he kept staring until he eventually sputtered, "I'm Greg… I-I mean, NO! Craig! I'm… I'm Craig."
Feeling as if his life ended by how stupid and awkward he just acted for no reason at in front of a cute girl and instantly made him feel like he made an ass of himself as he immediately smacked himself on the forehead and grumbled in embarrassed frustration with a sigh, "Dammit…"
Although rather than completely ruining the whole moment like he thought, Camille slowly smiled and laughed a little in silence to herself in amusement at his awkwardness.
Well, I hope all of you Craig senior fans enjoyed seeing a slightly younger version of him giving a 'talking to' to his spoiled teenage son in Craig junior. Haha. But really, I wanted to further show the dynamic and background that Heather's parents came from and influenced how they met. Mainly that in the end… Heather's parents are both just spoiled, rich kids that were byproduct 'vehicles' of and for their opportunistic parents to advance themselves in one way or another when it all comes down to it. Since it is the 70's, I wanted to highlight some of the differences of the times that don't seem to be quite as prevalent today. Mainly that back then 'social association' among the upper classes was still conducted over how much you 'fit in' in every possible way and 'who you associated with' more so than it is today. So, with Heather's mother's parents being Korean and Japanese immigrants to Canada, the two saw their best shot for advancement to be 'assimilating' to their new country by changing their first names to more westernized ones and also leading with their 'best foot' to fit in and gain respect among their new wealthy peers, that being their MASS amounts of fortune. And that was what Craig senior was looking to get a chunk of. And Craig senior (being a shrewd and strategic planner like Heather) saw his 'in' by noticing the Lim's had a daughter the same age as his son and decided to 'offer his son' into the business equation with them being an established 'old money' family. And that Camille and Craig junior dating each other could help the Lim's find their 'in' into the social circles they wanted to be a part of. And it seemed that both Craig junior and Camille weren't exactly 'initially excited' about the idea (especially not Craig junior), but it appears the two seem to be 'changing their tune' now that they've met by the looks of it. ;) Next chapter will continue on the story plus show more of a side of it from Camille's side of the situation plus show what her and Elena are up to back at the Burromuerto's house. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the chapter and as always constructive feedback is always appreciated.
Stay classy and thanks again so much for reading!
