Chapter 3: Lessons
Sasuke didn't put much effort into his looks that morning before leaving the house, doing just enough to make sure that he was presentable. The place he found provided the car to teach the driving so he was on public transportation to get to the place he was to meet the instructor. He kept it casual with a comfortable pair of old jeans and a loose dark grey t-shirt. He had run a brush through his hair, but hadn't done anything to style it.
He figured the driving instructor would likely be some old retired person that needed something to do so they thought people how to drive. What he wasn't expecting was to arrive to see a certain blond he had met at a party only a few weeks earlier. "You've got to be fucking kidding me," he groaned as he saw the man leaning against the car with a large sign on the top that said 'student driver.'
The blond was confused for a moment before he looked up and saw a familiar face standing in front of him. He couldn't help but laugh, "So Mr. Perfect doesn't know how to drive?" He checked the intake sheet one more time confirming that it wasn't a court mandated lesson. "Good to know you're not prefect, just judgmental."
"Fuck you," Sasuke growled in response. "I'm not judgmental." He knew that was a lie. He had instantly pegged Naruto as a frat guy that liked to party the moment he saw him and his friends gathered around drinking alcohol. He thought it was a safe assumption considering all of them were relatively attractive and they were at a frat party.
"You're the definition of judgmental. I'm pretty sure if I looked it up in the dictionary it'd just have a picture of your face," Naruto rolled his eyes. He continued to lean against the car as they bickered.
"Am I wrong though?" he asked, sure that he was right about the man in front of him.
"That I'm a dumb frat guy?" he asked with a raised brow. "Yeah, contrary to what you may believe I have pretty good grades and don't just fuck around with anyone. If I did I would have went for you, but I have standards," he told him with a huff.
"Standards? I'm so far out of your league it's not even funny," Sasuke retorted. Usually he'd just roll his eyes and move on, but for some reason he couldn't just let it go.
Naruto laughed, "I don't go for assholes, that's one of my rules. Dated enough of them, don't need another." He stood straight and signaled for Sasuke to get in the driver's seat, "Let's get this over with. You have your permit right?"
"Yes," he grumbled as he made his way to the car. Getting a permit was the only reason he had to wait a few weeks before he could start the lessons otherwise he would have booked it sooner and might not have gotten Naruto as an instructor.
"Cheer up, the sooner we get started, the sooner we can get this over with," Naruto told him as he got into the passenger seat, buckling his seat belt once he sat down. "Now, what's the first thing you're supposed to do after putting on your seat belt?" he asked.
Sasuke rolled his eyes, "Check and adjust my mirrors." Naruto nodded as Sasuke proceeded to do so. He knew it was his job, but that didn't stop him from wanting to punch Naruto when he critiqued every little mistake he made. Whether it be stopping too suddenly or going even a mile over the speed limit, Naruto had something to say about how he was driving.
"What don't you understand about easing into a stop?" Naruto huffed as they got to a stop light. Usually he'd be much kinder and more patient with his students, but he already didn't like the other man. In his opinion, Sasuke acted like he knew everything and therefore he wasn't going to be nice about it. He was going to point out every flaw and make snide remarks as they went.
"I'm learning, you don't have to be such a dick about it, you're supposed to be teaching me," Sasuke hissed back. He was getting frustrated with the blonde's attitude. He thought he was just proving him right that he was some stereotypical asshole frat guy that thought himself above everyone.
Naruto frowned as he thought about his actions, "You're right, you're learning." He had to remind himself that even though the man was an asshole, he still had a job to do. He was supposed to be teaching him how to drive, so that is what he did. He took him through the basics and as much as he hated to say it, Sasuke was better at than he thought he'd be, though he wouldn't give him the satisfaction of knowing that. They still had weeks to go before they finished the lessons and Sasuke had met the drive time requirements to test for his license so Naruto knew he needed to try to be civil, but Sasuke made it very difficult.
Over the following weeks, the two had become civl with each other. Though civil may be an understatement. Naruto would say they actually became friends and he'd be lying if he said he wasn't attracted to Sasuke. He'd learned that the Sasuke he met at the party was different than the Sasuke he was teaching lessons to. He was still rude at times, but he was pretty sure it was mostly a facade for when he was insecure about what he was doing.
Naruto wasn't the only one that noticed a change in them. Sasuke would be lying if he said he didn't take more time on his appearance before driving lessons now that he knew the blond was his instructor. Sasuke knew his best assets and he may have taken to wearing clothing that showed them off a little bit more, but not to the point that it was obvious what he was doing. He could admit that he found the man attractive and he really wasn't as bad as he'd thought when they'd first met.
It was the second week when Naruto had confronted Sasuke that they needed to try to be civil with each other. While Sasuke was hesitant, he agreed and it made for a less tense second session. From there they progress each week from bickering, to peaceful acquaintances and by the fifth of ten lessons Naruto thought that he could call them friends. Usually Naruto had dealt with teenagers and so he didn't try to make small talk or become friends with them. It was the first time Naruto had an attractive guy his age as a student and he couldn't help but want to befriend him. It wasn't until the seventh week that a simple invitation would change everything.
At the end of the lesson Naruto casually invited Sasuke out with him and his friends the next day, "So, me and some friends are going to a local bar down the street tomorrow night. I know we don't usually hang out outside of these lessons, but if you want to come you're more than welcome to. I mean, Karin thought we'd be good friends so maybe we should try." He was starting to ramble and it was probably the least smooth he'd ever been asking someone to hang out that wasn't a date. The blonde wasn't sure what it was about Sasuke that made him trip over his words at that moment.
Sasuke looked conflicted and for a moment he thought that he was going to say no. "Uh, yeah, I guess," he tried to play it cool but Naruto could tell he was nervous about it.
"You don't have to if you don't want to," he assured the other man. "I just thought we were kind of friends and you know friends hang out sometimes," he shrugged, trying to be nonchalant but at the same time fearing rejection.
"No, I want to," Sasuke quickly said. He mentally cursed himself for how quickly he said it, hoping it didn't come off desperate. "Are these the same friends I basically insulted?" he asked nervously.
Naruto laughed, "Yeah, but it'll be fine." He left out that his friends had gone from telling him what an asshole Sasuke was to teasing him about liking him because of how often he talked about him after their sessions. "I promise," he smiled. "You can even bring friends if you'd feel more comfortable that way," he suggested.
Sasuke bit his lip, thinking it over for a moment. "Who's going to drive me to the bar?" he asked, not sure why he did.
Naruto was surprised for a moment before he smirked, "I mean, I could always pick you up. But I'd need your phone number and address so I can text you when I'm there."
Sasuke chuckled, "Wouldn't even get out of the car to meet me at my door, huh?" He wasn't sure what had come over him, but he was pretty sure he was making a poor attempt at flirting with the other man. Sasuke held out his hand for Naruto to give him his phone so he could put in his number. The blond grinned as he unlocked his phone and handed it to Sasuke.
When he handed it back Naruto looked down at the contact name. "You know I'll be changing that right?" he asked. "Just Sasuke is too boring," he grinned as he sent Sasuke a text so he had his number. "Text me your address and I'll be there at seven."
Sasuke nodded, "Okay, I'll see you then." As he walked away smiled while saving Naruto's number as 'Sexy Driving Instructor.' He quickly shook his head to clear his mind of the dirty thoughts. He'd never heard of anyone having a driving instructor kink before, but somehow his mind had thought of ways to incorporate it into the bedroom. "Fuck," he said to himself as he waited for the bus. "I'm so fucked."
He had no idea Naruto had changed his contact information to 'Hot Student' with the peach emoji next to the name. If anyone asked about it he'd say he wasn't blind, Sasuke's ass was very enjoyable to look at. It almost made him wish he'd appreciated it more when the man was at the party in skin tight pants.
Neither of them knew how the following night would change everything between them.
