Chapter 2: The Totally '80s Slumber Party
One seasonably warm 4th Saturday of July 2021, I met up with my childhood friends Sarah, James, and Henri as well as some of my other best friends Carly Shay, Spencer Puckett, and Carly's stepdad, Freddie Benson at Pittsburgh's Perfect Parties client Rebecca Chase's house in Springdale for her Totally '80s Sleepover that night. There was also a lot happening before the sleepover, such as my friends and I jamming out to NSYNC and Santana while performing Childhood Chats and then accompanying our friends to local ice cream shop Glen's Frozen Custard before the party. We ate fried chicken and drank beer for dinner. Rebecca's house was decorated with Rubik's Cubes, neon balloons, cups, and plates, '80s pop culture posters, and posters with '80s slang words, as well as popular '80s hits playing in the background. To start off the party, Rebecca hosted an icebreaker game in which her guests had to choose which Pittsburgh neighborhood to live in. Lindsey chose East Liberty over Bloomfield, Taylor chose Oakland over Lawrenceville, Aly chose Shadyside over Morningside, and Laura chose Point Breeze over the South Side. Then, we kicked things off with Air Guitar Contest, which Henri helped out with, followed by learning '80s dance moves supervised by James, and a lip syncing contest supervised by Sarah. Then, Spencer supervised Pin the Glove on Michael Jackson. "I think that you are a very good dancer, James," Spencer remarked. "Why thank you, Spencer!" James replied. "I just wish that I was better at other things, like juggling balls in the air, which I was never good at my freshman year of high school." "I understand," Spencer remarked. Then, we played '80s board games, like Twister, Pictionary, Operation, and Trivial Pursuit. "Wow, that Pac-Man Cake looks good, Mr. Benson," Henri remarked. "I wish that I could eat it." "You already know that you can't eat it, though, right, Henri?" Mr. Benson asked. "If it were a Game Day or something, then I could eat it," Henri pointed out. "Well, it's not," Mr. Benson disagreed. "It is an actual slumber party." Then, everyone sat down to eat Pac-Man Cake. After snack time, it was time for '80s movies, including Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventures, Pretty in Pink, The Breakfast Club, The Three Amigos, and Mystic Pizza. There were even special snacks to eat with all of the movies, such as "Bill and Ted's Excellent Brownies", "Pretty in Pink Lemonade", "Breakfast Club Sandwiches", "Three Amigos Chips and Salsa", and "Mystic Pizza Rolls". "This was a fun day, Sarah," Carly admitted. "I am glad that we got to do lots of fun things together." "Well, that is part of the fun of working for Pittsburgh's Perfect Parties, Carly," Sarah explained. "I think that the summer as a whole was a lot of fun, too," Carly stated. "We got to do all sorts of fun things together, ranging from creative writing to trivia to cooking to virtual traveling to Improv and even a Game Day in Schenley Plaza with ice cream. Do you think that we will have time for makeovers?" "Of course," I replied. "I have always wanted to try different activities at a summer camp ever since I was a freshman in high school, and doing makeovers was one of them," Carly explained. "I really don't miss my mom much anymore, because I have you, Angel, and Alex as my 3 older sisters/roommates." Pretty soon, it was time for all of us to head back home "Thanks for a great day, everyone!" I thanked my friends. "You're welcome, Angel," Sarah replied. "Good night, guys!" "Good night!"
